Dual-wield weapon choices
Just wondering - for me and maybe others - what weapon combos are the best, as all the info is so clustered in here...
I usually go for Belm/Kundane or Crom Faeyr in the off-hand, but I realised that, while +apr is nice to have, 1 attack will be with my off-hand weapon anyway, which, with only +2 enchantment, will never hurt anything in TOB, pretty much making one of my attacks being wasted...
So wouldn't it make more sense (as far as dual wielding even makes sense at all) to use 2 damage-dealer-weapons like Crom and Foebane/Flail of Ages?

Enhanced Editions on sale on GOG
Hey dudes.
I have a bad habit of checking GOG.com for sales on games I'll never play, buying them, and never playing them.
Today, however, I noticed a pretty exciting sale. While I assume most people here already own a copy of BGEE, BG2EE, or IWDEE (or all three), they're all on sale on GOG for the next 6 days, for about $9 CDN each. I figured I'd let everyone know, since (I think) you also receive copies of the originals when you buy the EEs from GOG, and that may be of interest to some people.
There are also some other cool games on sale for the next 6 days as well, such as Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, The Witcher 1, 2, and 3, and The Age of Decadence.
Unfortunately, I don't think SoD is included in this sale. But still, 3/4 EE games ain't bad at all.
Here's the link to the sale!

Shouldn't Blackguards with high reputation fall from "grace"?
I mean, considering that it's like a paladin kit it would make sense that a high reputation would make them lose their Blackguard status.Besides, that would balance the kit a bit, don't you think?

Interview with Phillip Daigle at Mages and Murderdads podcast
"How did we come to idea of making SoD?", "Why an adventure between BG1 and BG2, not between BG2 and ToB?", "Which quests in SoD are Phillip's favourite?", "Why there is no Elmister comback in SoD?" these type of questions.
Among other things, Phillip explains why not all NPCs from BG1 are present in SoD. It is because not all voice actors were possible to reach.
"Chapter 10 in SoD was planned as something like Chapter 2 in BG2".
"Honestly, yes, I would like to do BG3. But in the same time, if you really think about BG3, let me ask you this: What do you think BG3 should be?... A lot of people are expecting it to be isometric, a lot of people are expecting it to be something new. And I think no matter what you do you're going to end up disappointing a lot of people... I would like to work on isometric BG3, it would super fun, but..."
Really, listen. It's a cool interview.

Modding for Dummies (or dummy as the case may be)
So over the last 9 months I have sank myself entirely to far in to playing & replaying the BG series. I am to the poin that I want to begin exploring some mods to add variety to the game. Looking to ease myself into it as I am totally clueless when i t comes to mods for any games. The closet I have come to using a "mod" so far is EEkeeper to add a few containers here & there, make a multi-class character with a kit, or rebuild a few different NPCs. I am not even sure where to start, and that is after looking ad such threads as "essential BG mods" and others.
I accidentally had Joluv go hostile while doing a certain quest that he is meant to be a bystander of (he & a peasant- not even sure how it happened or was even aware til I returned to The Copper Coronet) & can't seem to get the line added to enable the console commands to stick in the .ini file. So, yeah, I'm rather pathetic in terms of editing programming files. However, I am quite intelligent & more than willing to put effort into reading/learning the system to do so.
To further compound the issue, I am using PC that most would consider ancient. It is about 10-12 years old I am guesstimating- I bought it to play Rome: Total War, Mideval: Total War 2, LOTR RTS's, NWN2, ES: Oblivion, ect as other my old PC couldn't run Rome & the other games were current titles. My Laptop is reserved for work and I prefer gaming on my PC anyway with my 10 year old PC surround sound/woofer set. Since most of my games from GOG (including BG series), figure I should use a system to match. So yeah, Windows 7 and limited space on the hard drive (about 20gb atm). Will this bar entry to many/any mods?
I assume starting with backing up my BG files (saves in particular) would be wise, which I like to think I can figure out for myself. After that.....yeah, I'm lost. I have an idea of some I would like to try (while I def plan to give it a go- I'm not in a place where I necessarily want to play the game in a hardcore mode a la SCS. Currently play on core rules and that works for me as my game time is limited and too much complication/difficulty gets in the way still.
So would I be better off listing the mods I have in mind to try here and some one advising the best way/order to add them? Is there anywhere that I can get a walk through for adding mods to BG or PC games in general to learn the in & outs of doing so? Like the title- adding/installing/using mods for dummies type of walk through would be much appreciated and since I mainly play older games- prolly much enhance my gaming. I'd love to try some NWN2, Totalwar, & ES mods as well & since D&D and BG is my favorite setting/games- figure this is as good of time/way to learn as any.
Thanks for any feedback or even taking time to read through this dribble. Happy gaming!

Baldur's Gate Who Am I?
Bit of fun. 3 clues. First person to get it right sets the next one.
1) I am based in Athkatla.
2) My master is a mage and his companions are short, smelly and cowardly.
3) If you kill me my papa will cry. But if you kill him, I don't care!

Halfling classes?
This topic: a race question: Your CHARNAMEs throughout the ages got me thinking I never played a halfling charname, even though they're a lovely race. The main reason is, they have such a poor selection of classes to choose from, I just opened the character selection screen to check, they can be:
- Fighter (plain or kitted)
- Cleric (plain or kitted)
- Thief (plain or kitted)
- Barbarian (wtf?)
- Fighter/Thief (and that's the only multi-class option available to them).
I very much like my charname to be able to cast arcane spells, my most favourite character classes are Fighter/Mage, vanilla Mage, Cleric/Mage and Bard (Blade). But arcane classes are not an option for halflings.
If you want a halfling, you're stuck with playing single class cleric if you want to wield magic. Fighter and Thief classes are boring for a Charname, as they require little more than clicking an enemy or in the case of a Thief, clicking Find Traps, clicking Traps and Chests (I rarely make use of backstabs and mostly never of Traps, I use my Thieves to scout ahead, spot and disarm traps and open chests, more of an 'Adventurer' http://gibberlings3.net/readmes/readme-song_and_silence.html).
Two questions:
1. are there any mods that create more interesting choices for halflings (and not by lifting all race restrictions, cause that's a. plain silly, b. big time cheese)?
2. if you play a halfling Charname, how do you keep things interesting, skill-wise?
BTW, Dwarves suffer almost the same problem, their choice of classes is the same as those open to halflings, but with two extra interesting options added in: Dwarven Defender and Fighter/Cleric.

precedence over the overide folder
I vaguely recall that there is at least one, I think a few, directories that have higher precedence than overides. That is, if you put a modded file in one of these folders, it will be used instead of the copy in overides. I think either your saves or character folders may have been among them. Anyone have the list?

Custom NPC Portraits Masterthread [Spoilers, obviously]
Hello everyone ![:) :)]()
First of all, I am aware, that there already exist some threads about custom NPC portraits but I found them all to be rather confusing, so here is my attempt to make a proper masterthread where everyone can easily find whatever portrait(s) they want to use for their game.
This thread is under constant construction!
That's why I highly encourage you to post your own works and finds here (don't forget to source), so that I can add them to the startpost. So check back once in a while, in case there may be the perfect portrait you have always been looking for![;) ;)]()
Here are a few highly subjective* "quality ensurance" guidelines:
1. The portraits shouldn't clash too much with the in-game art styles (i.e. too cartoony, cell-shading, b/w, etc.)
--- Exception: Complete packs with portraits for most/all NPC companions
2. No simple "facelifts" (meaning that they are only mildly photoshopped versions of the official ones; it would be nice though if someone else could make a different masterthread for these)
3. No obvious "facesteals" (i.e. popular actors, characters from other media, etc.) and joke portraits
4. They should resemble the original designs to at least some degree (i.e. don't just suggest any random drow portrait for Viconia)
5. They need to fit size wise. If half the face would be cut off or there would be too much negative space for the in-game version, it's out.
*that means that there are almost certainly going to be folks who will disagree with my decisions on wether an image goes into the gallery or not
Depending on how this thread goes, I might sharpen or lighten the guidelines on the go.
