General Order #4 (the only one punishable by death)

In all of the original Star Trek series, with a galaxy full of plasma weapons, salt sucker monsters, telekinetic powers, ancient robotics, greek gods, doomsday planet killers, time travel, etc., the one and only great taboo, per General Order #4, was to go near planet Talos IV, home of the universe's greatest Illlusionists. Are they really that powerful?

There really is little point in an having illusory fireball if you can cast a real one. With illusions there must be more creative things we could do ... what do you think? Similar to the Kalah circus tent in BG II, I could see some use in changing the appearance of an enemy orc to look like a human adventurer, thereby confusing his mates and perhaps causing them to turn on him. Or perhaps creating some form of illusory terrain, wherein the victims perceive themselves trapped inside a ring of stones or a pit. Or maybe we could use illusory money to pay a merchant for an expensive item? Could an illusion spell create the same effect as resting?

>got approached by Lothander and was told I was poisoned
>talked to the Diviner and he told me to see the High Priestess of Umberlee
>talked to High Priestess of Umberlee and she told me she needed a Book of Wisdom
>talked to priest in Temple of Tymora and got Book of Wisdom
>instead of giving the Priest of Umberlee the book in exchange for the Geas removal scroll, I told her I didn't trust her, and she gave me the scroll and asked me again for the book. I lied and told her I didn't have the book and she said "how dare you show such impudence" and turned hostile, so I killed her.
>brought geas removal scroll to Lothander, he gave me antidote and I got 1500 exp
>talked to Marek and he immediately turned hostile with no dialogue options. I killed him, and only received 650 exp. I did not receive 10,000 exp for curing the poison, nor did I receive a notification that my poison was cured.
>I die after 10 days even after doing all of that

It's 2017.. is there a solution to transfer games from old iPad to new?

$

I've been looking for information on this topic for a while, but the only thing I can find is from several years ago. Even as much as 5 years ago.

I played BG:EE and BG2:EE on an older iPad back when those games first came out. But I cannot find a way to transfer my save games and custom portraits to a newer, more modern iPad. Could somebody point me in the right direction?

All I can find are solutions talking about using iFunbox, etc. But those ideas are out dated.

Help?
Thank you!

I has been bugging me for some time: why does the Amaunator avatar give you a shield that belongs to Bane worshippers? It is even called the Saving Grace!

Are there other little inconsistencies in the game bug you?

PS: Hurray my first evil party in BG2, Dorn's wedding crashing ability really lowered my reputation. There seems to be very few banters though.

Skeleton Warrior "Pets" When Playing SCS?

When using SCS, the Skeleton Warriors "love" their creator.
All the time, they run (shamble/clonk) their way back to Mummy/Daddy. A PITA when trying to take a group elsewhere to take down a mage whilst keeping the party out of sight or round a corner.

I don't remember it being so noticeable before without SCS, perhaps I've just forgotten?

It's very endearing in a way, turn round and your mage has got a personal bodyguard, they could take them for walkies, play catch, dress them up ect.

What EE Game are you Playing?

I'm curious after all these years have passed, what are forumites playing(or planning to play real soon)

I'd be interested in knowing what draws your motivation to play your current run. Why did you choose the current game to the exclusion of the others?

Plus details about your game, class/kit, party composition alignment etc...

Can I rely on Mage AI for most trivial fights?

Hello all!

So normally I hoard spells and never cast them or use scrolls because of the "I might need them later!" thought process, which I'm trying to get out of.

I'm playing SoD and realized that when using Dynaheir or Edwin and just keeping them on their starting AI they actually are adequately competent spellcasters. I understand for Mage Duels in BG2 I'll have to micromanage as I am use to but can I rely on this mage AI for the most part? I'm playing on Core Difficulty because I'm garbage at these games despite playing them for about 4 years now lol

What's your best stats roll?

I just started vanilla BG2, and wanted to make a character. I tend to play with the first 80+ roll for my PC. But this one I got upon the very first roll (after stats re-assignment).

STR 18/99
DEX 17
CON 19
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA14

Total 92 with a 18/99. Jesus.

Do you enjoy romances in CRPGs?

$

0
I don't like romances in CRPGs.

Romances tend to favor "real-life" attractiveness at the expense of fantasy flavor. Romanceable characters tend to be human, half-elf, demonic, or something "attractive". Shorties get the short end of the stick. While it may correspond to a gamer's real life "tastes", it leaves a hole. After all, shorty and monster races *do* reproduce and *do* have a sexuality. Do I feel like dating a halfling woman with coarse foot hair? Ugh, no. Designers are stuck with a dilemma: make the fantasy world consistent, and include romances you'd rather not "see"; make romances "attractive", at the expense of consistency.

Romances also tend to cannibalize non-romantic NPC interaction. This is especially true in the context of diversity. While it is perfectly okay to depict diversity in a game, giving every aspect of diversity a fair chance at being represented consumes a great deal of design time. The solution might be not to have any romance at all. Problem solved. Give us more Dak'kons, Yoshimos, Mortes, Jan Jansens, Nordoms, and less Dorns and Neeras.

In summary, romances open political can-o-worms, at the expense of consistency and interesting interactions void of romantic interest. I say let's do away with them, so that we may enjoy more consistency, more NPCs, and spare ourselves the inevitable forum drama.

What is the most powergaming party that you can think of?

two different groups of posts
1) multiplayer created party by player. What classes/races (and items)
2) charname + npc's. What npc's
-this is not 1 vs 2 but creating 2 different threads for 1 purpose is silly
-bg2 tob exp limit
-no mods

and why is this the most powergaming?

for example
F/M/T half-elf - like kensai mage but +100dmg with backstab
Kensai13/Mage - i think everyone know why kensai/mage
cleric/specjalist mage - healer who is almost immortal
mage slayer13/mage - antimage
edwin - most spells

npc's
F/M/T op op
sarevok dualed to mage op
edwin - op op op
aerie - op multi
keldorn - op dispell
Cernd - SS f yeah

like you can see I prefer magic :)

Thank you all for your suggestions to name the new community magazine here on the Beamdog Forums. After consulting with some drunken monkey's we have narrowed the list of names down to a small handful.

Please select the name that you wish to name the community magazine. The winner will be revealed in the next issue. (well it will be revealed by showing the show results or voting, but ya!)

*If you vote for The Wizard's Scroll, please note we actually need to find an alternative name for it as that name has been taken. Moving the punctuation won't help (@God). So if you can think of something similar, mention it in the comments below.

Thanks again for all the feedback from the magazine. We all look forward to releasing the next issue to you all in March.

The Infinity Engine

I just wanted to write a little Note to All the folks out at Beamdog , PLEASE do not Stop using the Infinity Engine when creating new games!!!! As a Long time player of D&D (early 80's) the BG games have brought me back to when I was in High School in my friends basement on a Saturday Afternoon , Rolling the 20 sided dice...... These games are the only ones that give me this enjoyment. Yes I play WOW also played D&D Online , I know the graphics
and 3d worlds look Amazing.... But The Infinity Engine in my Opinion in the way A D&D Computer Game should be played, Period. If you guys are making a New Game please consider All the Older and Long time D&D fans that still Love this Engine and Still play The games Often. ( Just created a Bunch of new Groups for IWDEE That I'm going through again Since I played it when it first hit the shelves way back when, And also have 6 or 7 Parties still going through BG2EE!!!!).

Come suggest some theme songs for each NPC!

$

For the music lovers out there!
What songs do you guys think would be fitting for each NPC? Share a tune that fits their character, their story or their attitude.

All suggestions welcome!

I'll begin with some:

Due t his marriage difficulties and his wife's name, I'll give Keldorn "Maria, Maria" by Santana. The pain in his voice when he says "Maria!" after his wife says "What if I don't love you anymore?" is just heartbreaking. Also, Manowar's "Heart of Steel" just describes his attitude toward evil perfectly for me
image
image

Dorn must have some kind of song about being badass and evil. The songs "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood would fit, but I'm a big metal fan, so I'll give him Iced Earth's "Pure Evil"
image
image

Eldoth just has to be an outlaw country song, so I either have to go with "Didn't Your Mama Tell ya 'bout Boys Like Me" by Montgomery Gentry or for a better song, Iron Maiden's "Running Free"
image
image

Skie would definitely be the Upper Middle Class spoiled girl who totally thinks she's cool for listening to rrap, so I'd have to give her some Kanye (the go-to artist for these people). She's also the totally non-metal sorority girl who constantly misuses Dio's horn sign while listening to Blink 182

Is Blackguard overpowered ?

$

I am currently tinkering with NI, trying to create some custom kits which would spice up my next playtrough. I am currently in the middle of balance phase, so I've carefuly read trough all kits so I can compare to them. The Blackguard struck me as much more generous than other kits in bonus/malus ratio - especially when compared to other paladins. I would like to ask for public opinion about this issue.

Summary of blackguard kit:

+Lay on Hands upgraded to Absorb Health
+ Immunities to fear and level drain
+ Can control undead, like evil clerics
+ Powerful Poison weapon ability, with more uses/day per 5 levels
+ Powerful Aura of Despair ability, with good level progression
+ Can choose from wider range of alignments (CE, NE, LE - Paladin can be only LG)
- No detect Evil
- No protection from Evil (but may cast it as spell eventually).

Note: I am aware that this is singleplayer game and by no means needs super-duper balanced classes. However I still think that there is a line, which if crossed means less fun in the end.
