I think that the BG games didn't need any achievements, but since they're already worked on, there's no harm in getting them.

My view is that there're too many achievements. 93 is too much. I see a lot of quest achievements and personally think that the majority of them are not needed. Maybe only the achievements about the main quest should stay, and about rare (more hidden) quests, like the Twisted Rune.

I like achievements that don't include any quests: Finish the game without any party members dying, Complete the game solo, Complete the game on Legacy of Bhaal difficulty.

The achievement I would like to be added a lot is Finish the game without the main character dying. BG has a rich history of no-reload runs and this achievement will really be of a help to us, no-reloaders.

Also, it's unclear how the "Flying Solo" achievement could be transferred to BGEE, since Imoen joins the party automatically.

I don't have a steam version of the game, but if I did, after the achievemens are added, I would be trying to get all of them, which would mean new and new runs through the game (and this is a good thing).

P.S. The visuals of the achievements are superb. The icons look nice.

Exactly what "rebalances" have been made to BG1 and BG2 through the EE?

Bhaal's DNA

Alright alright alright.

So here is a thought I had been buzzing around that weird vaguely egg shaped blob that is at the end of my neck for quite a while now.

Bhaal screwed his way all over Toril (or was it just the Swordcoast?) prior to the time of troubles, right?
With a vast array of species and races. I think it's rather save to assume that most of his children do not actually share the same DNA.

Now the question is: Why?

Of course it's the easiest to assume that Bhaal simply took a different form (almost) every time.
But what if he didn't. Maybe he went Holy Ghost on a good chunk on those ladies or he only used one/ few forms to go Gilgamesh on them.

So this is my idea: What if the Bhaalspawn are actually genetical clones of their mothers and only their souls contain Bhaal's essence?

Maybe only a few Bhaalspawn actually share Bhaal's DNA, maybe none at all.

What do you think?

Given that the colour "upgrade" on the character sprites is giving me some problems playing the EE edition of BG1, Iam going to have to downgrade the version of it. Seems the new sprites got added when SoD came out. Is this doable? I just can't play the game in its current state. I am guessing if I download the game a new to install it, the game forces the current patched version on me too?

Can I have both Beamdog's and Steam's versions installed ?

I have BGEE from Beamdog, but in order to get SoD I've also bought BGEE and SoD from steam . Do I have to uninstall the first one?

Unpopular opinions

$

An idea has come to me to make a thread where we can share unpopular opinions about things in BG and other IE games.

1. Cernd is far from being useless NPC.
In fact, he has tons of high-level druid spells and if CHARNAME is not a druid, than by not having a second class Cernd offers a lot of variety in lvl 6-7 spells if compared to Jaheira. If use the high-level druid spells right, almost any fight in SoA becomes a lot easier.

2. Darts can be a good choice as a ranged weapon for a fighter.
Thalantyr's shop in BG1 has tons of useful darts, Sorcerous Sundries make it even better. There's an unlimited +3 dart on the first level of the Watcher's Keep, available not long after escaping from the Irenicus dungeon. Darts provide 3 APR and with addition APR from specialization and fighter class your darts stay a wonderful weapon from the Candlekeep and to the Hell.

3. 2 thieves in a party is not too much.
I prefer to focus on setting traps and dispelling illusions with one of them and to hide in shadows for backstabs with another. Also, there're Open Locks and Disarm Traps skills. There're always multi-class options available. For example, your character can be a multiclass fighter/thief with amazing backstabs while Tiax or Jan Jansen is focused on setting traps to the place you lure your enemies to. Or maybe a half-orc assassin for backstabs and poison weapon and Hexxat for other thieving skills.

4. Mazzy's relatively low starting STR is not a problem.
She has innate Strength spell, there're lots of STR-enhancing items in BG2, so that leaves you with a shorty fighter (and thus all saving throws bonuses) who has a chance to become GM in any weapon you like (or choose a standard short bow proficiency providing 5 APR with the Tuigan bow).

5. Keep trying using every and each consumables in any fight if you have any.
You won't believe how easier it will become if your fighters nearly always have 22-23 STR for fights and get their saving throws improved drastically. Wands will often be enough to defeat even bosses.

Carry on! Share the things that are relatively not popular among BG fans.

I'm curious as to what people do with/whether people do anything with the biographies by race/class as they show up in the game!

Trouble installing SCS

I'm using The BiG World to try and install some mods, specifically SCS.

It downloads no problem, but when trying to install I keep getting this;
ERROR: error loading [ag#dsalt.2da]
ERROR: Unix.Unix_error(20, "stat", "ag#dsalt.2da")
Initialise mod (all other components require this) (Sword Coast Stratagems) was not installed due to errors.

You can try to repair the problem and start the installation of the component
again. In this case please select "retry" after the repair.

If you don't want to spent
time for that now, you can also continue without the component or exit the
program. The BiG World Setup will continue with the installation of that component.
Enter [r]etry, [c]ontinue or [e]xit.
What is going wrong? What can I do to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Bard's Book to Sorcerer Style?

Is it possible to make a joinable NPC use a Sorcerer-Styled Book, and still be a Bard?

Dwarven Defender/Cleric who can use axes

$

I was playing about with the Dwarven Defender kit as I was thinking of trying to solo a DD/Cleric build. Normally I would create a Fighter/Cleric first and put a kit on it. However today I made the Dwarven Defender first and then added the Fighter/Cleric class onto it.

The result is a DD/Cleric build who appears to be able to use any weapon, bladed or otherwise. It is constrained by only being able to put two pips into a weapon like any multiclass.

Will I somehow break my character later on? As a test I dumped a load of XP on him and I was able to choose any weapon proficiency at Fighter level 3. Defensive Stance and spellcasting all works as expected.

I suspect this would work with any other class combo as well.

About voice acting

Here's the thing.

I'm the happy owner of the original BG saga dubbed in Polish. Now that I'm playing the English versions of the EE I've noticed that the character voices sound like they were recorded 40 years ago with a poor mic. Has it always been that way in the original English game?

The reason I ask is because the Polish voice overs were of a much better quality.

Thank you Beamdog!

Hello everyone,

I don't know if this message will ever get to any Beamdog employee but just wanted to thanks everyone there for everything that they do. I just received a signed poster of Baldur's Gate Siege of Dragonspear in the mail, wich I won by entering a contest in their first issue of The Familiar. Being such a massive fanboy of everything Baldur's Gate/Infinity Engine games, I can't thanks everyone enough for bringing back the glory of cRPGs to the modern gaming era. Even with all the -ridiculous- drama that followed the release of SoD, I wanted to get these words to all who had a part in the project, from start to finish.

That poster might only be a printed sheet of paper with pen marks on it, it actually represents a lot to me and am very proud of it. Thank you again for letting me -and everyone- enjoy the memories of the past in glorious HD.

Sincerly,

S. J.

P.S.: Here it is, still a bit wrinkled from the shipping tube ;)

A question about a certain Helmet in the game [Spoilers];

So, Ashatiel has wings, since she's an Avariel.
These are attached to her via the unremovable Headgear item she possesses (Use of Ctrl+Q will show this).

The question I have - is there anyway to get it to be visible on other characters?
After some quick, not very deep, fiddling around with Ashatiel's item BDERINYE,
[and also creating a clone copy of my own to customize], equipping it on and off Ashatiel seems to work just fine, however if I put the item onto anyone else, it does not show the wings.

Beamdog next project?

Hi there, despite all this controversy about SoD, personally I admit I really enjoyed the game. There is only one major issue for me - game is way too short ! Is there any info about Beamdog future projects? I'd love to see another Infinity Engine RPG based in a different part of Faerun with 2nd edition D&D rules and I was wondering if there is more folks like me and if you think such game could find it's place on the market ?

CLUA Console trouble :(

I'm sorry but since my Baldur's Gates updated the CLUA Console doesn't work properly. For example when I try to put in AdvanceRealTime it keeps popping up:
CLUAConsole:AdvanceRealTime(999)
{string "CLUAConsole:AdvanceRealTime(999)]:1: error in function 'AdvanceRealTime'.
argument #1 is 'class CLUAConsole', 'CLUAConsole' expected.

Classes best for RPing Bhaalspawn Powers

$
0
0
So I got to thinking...Dorn complains that power doesn't come as easy for others as it does for Charname. So, what classes best represent Bhaal blood? My ideas, and please add to them as you see fit.

Blackguard

Usually you need to sell your soul to a devil, demon or evil deity for these powers. That says to me that these powers are linked directly to their infernal nature. Well, Bhaal was an evil deity, was he not? If evil deities can create Blackguards, then why not have a bhaalspawn blackguard simply be someone who naturally taps into what would otherwise be given? Giving in to your bhaalspawn blood simply unlocks these powers.

Shadow Dancer

One that I did before for a really fun run. Bhaal was the god of murder. Shadow Dancers are the epitome of this, as they can go invisible anywhere, any time. They can step into the plane of shadow. They have natural abilities that make them one with the night. Being the son or daughter of the god of murder could be what grants this.

Sorceror

The class description itself says that they often have the blood of dragons or deities in them. Fits like a glove.

Cleric (unkitted)

Goes back tot he blackguard idea. That bhaal would have been granting these powers when he was alive. You are already tapping into this when you get your special abilities. So for a cleric, that would merely be someone who is using what is inside of them to fuel their prayers/spells. It's just that bhaal is dead so he can't actually decide what to grant or not grant. Gaining levels isn't favor with him, it's being in better control of taking what you need.

Berserker

Odd, I know. But Bhaal was an evil god of murder. I'd imagine that having his blood in you would make your more violent. So I like the idea of the taint being the cause for your murderous rage. Not all murder has to be stealthy and clean, you know? Murder can also take the form of a blood rage where you cave someone's skull in with a hammer. This just embodies that.

Cavalier

Ok, bear with me. Please just hear me out. What do Cavaliers get? They get bonuses to killing evil outsiders. They are immune to fear. They get some elemental resists. Well, as I see it this is what happens when you go out of your way to reject your infernal heritage.

Personally, I'm liking the idea of a berserker dualed into a thief. This can be seen as the epitome of what it means to be the child of murder. You are adept at murdering via cloak and dagger, laying traps, using scrolls to magic someone into the afterlife, and just going into a murderous rage and pummeling them into a pulp.

Anyone else have any ideas for good RP reasons for your bhaalspawn nature fitting into your class?

Dual class from - to Sorcerer / shaman, is it now possible?

WIth this new interface and all we had a new feature, the shaman, nothing more and nothing less than an druid sorcerer!!

Very cool in fact, and with this new feature i have to ask: Is now possible to dual class from/to sorcerer and shaman?

Doesn't even need to be an core feature, modded dual class is ok for me, but the possibilities... ah the possibilities!!!

Invert dual class kit - Feature request

I believe beamdog work with the engine is mature enough, now that the entire interface and ingame features has been revamped.

Could beamdog rework the dual class system so the kit class became the dualed one?

We can do it with Shadowkeeper, it's still respecting the only 1 kit rule and, evidently, it will add more combinations with more replayability.

Long time since my last requests (and even posts here, besides the lastest 2), but i believe it's time to awaken the child of bhaal on me for more playthroughs :)!

Tomes of Ability Increase

$

0
I am curious how other players utilize the various tomes they discover during the course of game. Do you just use the ability increase on your MainChar/Bhaalspawn or do you ensure that they are made available to the NPC that can use them to the most advantage.

Whenever I play Baldur's Gate, I always have Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal in the back of my mind, so I generally only use them for my Mainchar/Bhaalspawn, but with the impending release of SoD, I am starting to think maybe Viconia could use a little extra Wisdom, maybe Minsc could tote a 19 Strength without a belt.

I must admit, I am hoping they do something with next patch/game release that allows for BG2EE NPCs to retain any permanent Stat adjustment they received in BGEE.

Shaman abilities help

$

So im dicing up a shaman and I rolled 92, not bad.

That's not the problem, im just not 100% sure where to put the points. I doubt this class is meant for melee right? So I was thinking like this maybe ( for human )
16 str ( if I do go 18 here itll be good for throwing axes and daggers I guess right? )
18 dex ( a must for s-bows I guess )
16 con ( don't think they benefit from 18 anyways? )
10 int ( I doubt ill benefit at all here even if I put 18 right? )
18 wis ( we apparently don't need wis but it stops me at 12 so I put 18 for reasons )
10 cha ( so I don't think cha will be useful much as I just read its not a huge benefit beyond cheaper prices/can be made up for easilly )

This gives me 4 leftover points to place wherever, assuming I didn't mess up above. From what I gather it looks like the abilities have nothing to do with the spell casting , and mostly help out in whatever combat type I want to do. Is this correct?

Can someone suggest an optimal stat distribution or should I just dump last 4 into str to get 18 and int to 12 because who cares? Unless that extra 18 con would help but I don't think so unless I want the regen thing at 20...

I couldn't find any info on abilities so hope this isn't reposting/is in the right place.
