Heyo, my dear fellow Forumitians.

In this thread, I am just gonna share all that neat Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Dungeons and Dragons related stuff I find across the webs and feel like you guys would enjoy as well and doesn't fit into the meme thread :P
So, mostly fanart, jokes, maybe some videos, who knows!

Feel free to share your own finds as well of course (and for the love of Bhaal, properly source it).

So yeah, enjoy fandom hell with me!

I'm sure we all agree Baldur's Gate is loaded with highly memorable quotes. Which one is your favorite?

Custom NPC Portraits Masterthread [Spoilers, obviously]

$

Hello everyone :)

First of all, I am aware, that there already exist some threads about custom NPC portraits but I found them all to be rather confusing, so here is my attempt to make a proper masterthread where everyone can easily find whatever portrait(s) they want to use for their game.

This thread is under constant construction!
That's why I highly encourage you to post your own works and finds here (don't forget to source), so that I can add them to the startpost. So check back once in a while, in case there may be the perfect portrait you have always been looking for ;)

Here are a few highly subjective* "quality ensurance" guidelines:
1. The portraits shouldn't clash too much with the in-game art styles (i.e. too cartoony, cell-shading, b/w, etc.)
--- Exception: Complete packs with portraits for most/all NPC companions
2. No simple "facelifts" (meaning that they are only mildly photoshopped versions of the official ones; it would be nice though if someone else could make a different masterthread for these)
3. No obvious "facesteals" (i.e. popular actors, characters from other media, etc.) and joke portraits
4. They should resemble the original designs to at least some degree (i.e. don't just suggest any random drow portrait for Viconia)
*that means that there are almost certainly going to be folks who will disagree with my decisions on wether an image goes into the gallery or not

Depending on how this thread goes, I might sharpen or lighten the guidelines on the go.

More diverse views on Zhents, please!

$

It is time the prejudiced views of the Zhentarim are challenged. We are given archetypical Zhent NPCs in the games, one abusive and rude and the other mentally disturbed, and I think it is time the negative generalization about Zhents face opposition from true warriors of social zhentarim justice.
I mean, it's not THEIR fault that the Zhents are associated with hatred, tyrrany and fear just because their main deity is (it also unfair against Bane, he of course has redeeming qualities like every person does!).
It's so biased; in BG2 we are given the impression that harpers are good guys. But then they turn on you.
What if it is the Zhents who actually are the good guys?
We need to battle this view of the Zhents as agents of evil just because they e.g. deal in slaves and time and time again try to gain control of the Dalelands. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. The Dalelanders should learn to live in peace with their neighbors.

Ioun Stone Nerf :(

Now that Ioun stones no longer provide crit protection how are non-armour wearing classes supposed to protect themselves? This seems like an unfair nerf to classes that are already fragile. My kensai/mage is especially unhappy about this and demands blood! And yes I know this is the same mechanic used in IWD, but IWD is rubbish and I'd rather the Baldur's Gate:EE series didn't emulate it. *sulks*

powergaming party (BG2 TOB,NPC and multiplayer)

What is the most powergaming party that you can think of?

two different groups of posts
1) multiplayer created party by player. What classes/races (and items)
2) charname + npc's. What npc's
-this is not 1 vs 2 but creating 2 different threads for 1 purpose is silly
-bg2 tob exp limit
-no mods

and why is this the most powergaming?

for example
F/M/T half-elf - like kensai mage but +100dmg with backstab
Kensai13/Mage - i think everyone know why kensai/mage
cleric/specjalist mage - healer who is almost immortal
mage slayer13/mage - antimage
edwin - most spells

npc's
F/M/T op op
sarevok dualed to mage op
edwin - op op op
aerie - op multi
keldorn - op dispell
Cernd - SS f yeah

like you can see I prefer magic :)

If it Aint Broke Don't Fix it. (2.0 Char Sheets)

$

Title says it all. The new character sheets are a disjointed mess. It's no longer possible to get an at a glance look at your characters. This boggles the mind, as in the last build the character sheets were just about perfect. I honestly find it easier now to go to the inventory screen to get the info I'm usually looking for. I wont even start on that tiny little box you put in for active character effects other than to say it's horrendously designed.

Not only that, but now one must dig through more screens with more clicks and more tedium to get LESS information. Yep, that's right, less info. Weapon style bonuses (at least for 2 handed) are no longer displayed any ware. I may have missed it, but believe me when I say I looked real hard before coming here to post. The only useful info I have found to be added is now your mages can see what the max spell level they can comprehend is and the max number of spells per spell level they may have in their spell books. I still have the original manuals that came with the original games, but I can see some people getting at least some use out of this info.

If you were going to spend time and resources overhauling the character sheets instead of using that time and those resources adding something that actually enhances the experience then why not add information that actually matters? Best idea I have is effects of reputation on your party. As I already stated, I have the original manuals and this is by far the info I go to the books for most often. It's very useful information and totally worth adding to the character sheet, at least for the protagonist.

I know somebody put time and effort into this and the nice guy in me feels bad tearing it down, but I want this game to be the best it can possibly be. I sure wouldn't spend my valuable free time giving this type of feedback if I didn't.

Thanks for listening, and keep up the (for the most part) good work.

Baldur's Gate: Gold Edition Big Box

Something I have been wondering, way back i got a box of pcgames and it had a mint baldurs gate gold edition big box and contents. Is this apparently a rare pc big box game? Checking around I see it not listed anywhere or for like $300+? I also researched that it came with both TotSC and a copy of fallout 1? I dont see a fallout 1 disc so i have idea if it is true or totally complete. I am just surprised because you can find mint BG2 collectors editon for like $25 bucks... And it was similar but more contents.

Anyone here have this BG gold edition box set?

Hello everybody :)

From all the companions from the first Baldur's Gate, only five (well, six ;) ) return for the sequel:
Edwin Odesseiron, Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc & Boo and Viconia DeVir.
They all get new portraits and I would like to know which you prefer: The original ones or the sequel ones.

Here for comparision:

SIngle class clerics and dual wielding.

$

So clerics, along with druids, are one of my favorite classes, however only being allowed one pip has prevented me from trying one that dual wields. The penalty for dual wielding with only one pip is -2/-6 thac0, admittedly pretty steep. The plus side would be that the extra attack is way more significant for a cleric since it effectively doubles their number of attacks.

However let's say I would start with a Half-Orc cleric and 19 strength. The extra strength should cover the penalty of dual wielding with only one pip and result in a thac0 the same as a non-orc 18 strength cleric. Of course other races would get this bonus as well once they receive the tome.

I guess I'm wondering just how effective a straight(kitted) cleric would be when dual-wielding. Definitely not as good as a fighter or fighter/cleric, but are they still going to be hitting stuff on a consistent basis with only 1 pip in dual wield? A dual-wielding Priest of Talos would be especially awesome.

Enough begging yet?

Have there been enough pleading, begging requests yet to assure that the SOD NPCs will be entering BG2? I've never finished BG2 because I don't like most of the NPCs. Either the personalities or the abilities of the characters leave me cold so I typically quit. I'd love to get the new NPCs in the mix to give me a viable blend for a party to finish the series for once

Why Modmerge's existence sucks

$

First... Don't get me wrong.
Modmerge is a great tool and @ScottBrooks a god.
However...
Why was it needed in the first place?
Why haven't beamdog made an oficial statement? This is needed. let me tell you why:
I feel this was intentional from beamdog to boost sales from their site and get 100% earnings.

I've been feeling beamdog is pushing me to rebuy from their site since preorder for SoD was opened...

When preorders were announced i intended to buy them on day one to support the devs (I NEVER preorder). I assumed steam to be an option (i can only buy trough steam because of my local currency and exchange rates).
When I found myself mistaken I felt bad and like beamdog was telling me i had to buy it from them if i wanted to support them (hell... It even said something along the lines of "Want to support the devs? Buy directly from us") however I said to myself "Ok, ill buy it on day one". Not because I intended to play it on day one, but to give my support (I'm intending to wait until BGEET is released for my first run).

Then I learn that mod would be almost impossible with steam and GOG versions... but with beamdog's? No biggie...
But then again i told myself that it didn't matter, surely soon there would be an announcement or a silent patch fixing that mistake... "it was a mistake surely"... HA... Innocent, idiotic me.
But what did we get? radio silence... And then we got Modmerge, an unofficial tool, with no warranties, that will make modding cumbersome. (But at least possible).
AND AS AN ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE FORUMS!!!!

This at least to me, tells that beamdog seems that the issue is resolved... That there are no plans to fix the issue. And since the tool is unofficial, they can wash their hands.

So what would i have to do to be able to play BGEET when released? Rebuy EVERY BGEE game but FROM BEAMDOG. At HUGE exchange rates.

Maybe it's the anger but i really feel like this was intentional from beamdog... The silence, the release of the tool categorized as an announcement in the forums, the beamdog preorder exclusive, the "support the devs" line in beamdog's website... It's all fishy to me. And that is why i want an official statement on the issue.
After all... Modding is what kept this game alive all this years.

You all have a great evening.

Gnome builds.

Hey folks. I'm considering playing as a gnome in my next BG play through. I've never played a gnome before and the only experience I have of the class is having Jan Jansen as a companion in BG2.

Can the good people of the forum suggest some gnome builds for me?

Cheers :)
