The lich quota

The lich quota has been reached, thank you for playing, but seriously. What is the lich to every other Race ratio here?

So my Sorcerer (the carryover from bg1) found two liches a few days ago, both of them were in "secret areas." The first one I found in a hidden tomb inside of the tavern at the main gate. The second one I can't remember but he now sits in the Drow city of the under dark (I cleared the under dark dungeons before going to the Drow city and what not. I'm pretty sure the beholder dungeon is what hell looks like. Tentacle eye monsters that kept making me cry...)

My wild mage (The level 27 important from black pits 1-2) after doing the same hidden lich fights, I started to powerbomb quest so I could rush to the underdark with Viconia (I really what to see if returning with her causes... Hell something interesting to happen.) Anyways, while rushing quest I just so happened to have to fight a liches in places that I swear weren't there my first go.

1. The unseen eye quest, I had to fight a lich in the final dungeon where you have to get the item from the unseen eye and use it on him. Well, not that one, but the one before, in the tavern like area where all the one instead tells you to please leave because you're making them hungry.

In the spellhold first dungeon, right before you fight the vampire and take his hand. Like really, does the game just roll dice and on when and where to put none plot point liches? Shoot, if they are going to do that, might as well put a way inside the mage stronghold for mage charname to become a lich, Bahamut knows it will make that underwhelming place feel more purposeful.

What is Conan's class and stats (the Howard/Busiek et al. character)?

... and before you can say "Barbarian. Duh!", consider all this:

- He 'duals' into 'Thief' early in his career.
- Later gains 'prestige classes' as a... err... 'Champion' [leadership bonuses, though not healing spells, as well as some mystical immunities, which probably approximates a non-spell casting Paladin].
- He is not a typical 'good-guy' but his word is his bond (though he is not bound by laws of the land); he attempts to protect those that ask for it (especially 'damsels', but also those linked by a battle-bond)
- He is superbly intelligent in the tactics & tricks that he employs; also has the wisdom to discern his path
- He successfully battles Wizards
- His minds is impervious when in 'rage' (e.g. 'God in the Bowl' etc.)

I'd say, he should be:

Berserker 6 / Thief 5 / Pirate 4 [Skald-like thief kit] / 'Champion' 10 [imaginary paladin kit]
Neutral Good
18-75/16/18/14/14/17
(e.g. his dex is high, but not as high as, say Janissa)

with a scattering of special abilities corresponding mental save bonuses etc.

Anyone else wanna give a shot at this?

Giving up Bhaalspawn essence as a sorceror/shadow dancer

For classes with innate powers that come through being god-born, does giving up Charname's Bhaalspawn essence mean that Charname loses said powers?

A sorceror for example: lvl 30, atop the world. Gives up the divine spark, becomes a lvl 30 commoner...

Hello! In an upcoming PnP game I'm going to be playing a LN Doomguide of Kelemvor. My only issue is I normally hate being a lawful alignment due to feelings of being tied down and restricted. How do I get over this feeling?

Edit: Derp, not PnP. I mean Multiplayer BG game. >_>

Which race is your Fighter/Thief?

We all know Fighter/Thief is one of the most versatile multiclasses available, but which race should you play as, and why? I think an argument could be made for all of them honestly (except human of course).

I chose an elf for the 19 DEX and sword and bow to hit bonuses. The 17 CON can be easily increased with the Manual of Bodily Health, the low racial thief skill bonuses are remedied by the high DEX, the sword to hit bonus makes them deadly dual wielders, and they are simply the best archers in the game.

Which race did you choose?

Managing spell casters

Plaid threw the game with an archer. Wow that was harsh. I felt mighty. I imported to bg2 and found my archer not so powerful.

Now I'm back in bg1 ( bg1 ee on steam ) I've made a party of spell casters. I keep running into the same 2 problems.

1) I'm a man of the mind I'm not playing darts! I pause. cast my spells, then un pause. Some in my party are faster than others at casting the same spell... the one who's first out the gate then wants to take em all on bare handed and starts closing there distance to give evil a good smack to the head. Is there no " hold your ground option? "

2) Someone has cast a spell on me and I cant remember who these people are I'm with. Might as well try and kill them... After failing to dispel me, Dynaheir is quick on her draw and gives me a dose of her wand of paralyzation. This happens allot... now my party want to attack me because I'm the closest hostile... I have to walk them away from me before they will not target me. I think this is a bug. My non affected party cant even throw a magic missile if there standing too close to me. They keep getting distracted with my poor mind altered paralyzed self. I never had this problem with my archer party.

Pause, Dynaheir! cast magic missile on evil dude over there! the one that is trying to kill us. The spell icon comes up. Unpause, but then she steps toward poor mind altered Rova and starts throwing punches. Driving me nuts! is there a fix to this? Never attack part member unless I say so button I don't know about?

I also wish there was a training room where you could duel with your party members to work out how spells work instead of testing them out in combat. i.e. I didn't know color spray affected everyone. you only have the rear party member cast that spell once! also I get my math wrong all the time. Minsc seems to be better with two one handed than one two handed. If I need 5 damage to kill someone, hitting them from 5 or hitting them for 20 means nothing, he's dead Jim.

Vi had to freaking what? (Umm spoiler)

OK, one of my biggest problems with RPG games sually fall around its dialogue. Even more so with games that try to have multiple paths. Baldur's Gate is no exception, but I think I just reached a point where I literally just said "what the fuck, really?"
So I just left the underdark, lovely place and really wished there was a evil outcome that didn't lead to me having to kill or have Phaere killed.preferably having Viconia fight her seeing how there was I tiny bit of jealousy in her words after the night with Phaere.

So anyways, after being forced into a truth or lie session with Elhan, I finally agree to do the quest. Any thing to speed up the clock to the point where I can put a fireball into Irenicus's chest, and then use his smoldering chest cavity, two pieces Graham crackers, a piece of chocolate, and a marshmallow to make a smore.

Then they turn their attentions to Viconia, and questions her loyalty, eve Jaheira freaking comments. And they continue until they force her into a damn Geas!

Where is my input on this?

Oh i forgot, before then you can tell them to just kill her. Do, charname gets forced into the "I don't trust her category." I don't get to object to putting magical chains on someone who been with me since I after I started my journy? Someone Charname trusts with his life on the battlefield? Someone my charname told "I love you" and begged to stay when she was going to leave...

OK maybe it makes a possessive type of sense with that last part.

But still, she gets magical chains and shackles from a spell/ability that pretty much turn people into slaves and I'm not allowed to object to this?

Petition add kits to vanilla NPCs.

Since it seems to petition season, here is mine.
Just to add more flavor to the series, especially BG1 and also so I don't have to manually do it to every second NPC that joins me.

There are many good opportunities for NPC's to get kits, all lore friendly too.

-Safana is a swashbuckler.

-Monty is a assassin.

-Kivan could be a Archer.

-Kagian could very well be a dwarven defender.

-Faldorn a avenger or a shifter.

-Ajantis would probably be an inquisitor in training because he studied under Keldorn.

-Hexxat should be a shadow dancer.

and many more more could be argued for.

So have you ever done something horrible because you couldn't be bothered to do the longer good alternative?

I have and it mostly happens towards the end of a day's play, when I'm tired and really just don't care about RPing or random NPC's anymore.

My shameful examples:

- Killed Valygar because I didn't want him in my party, but did want the planar sphere.

- Killed Brage because I encountered him before I had explored all of the map and didn't want to make a return trip.

- Ctrl Y'd a waiter, in a tavern because he decided to stand on some loot.

What evil has laziness made you perform?

Why do mages always turn lich when looking for eternal life/unlife?

$

All the main evil mages turn lich and I wanna know why this is?
Larloch, Szass Tam both creepy undead things, falling to bits, why is lich the go to option? If you don't mind being undead, why not just get bitten by a vampire. By all accounts vampires lords are extremely strong creatures, I doubt they would lose any of the spell casting power they had before, they would still gain the benefit of eternal unlife and would have have the bonus of not being a gross corpse looking thing that is falling to bits.
Yes vamps have that annoying weakness to sunlight, but surely a powerful mage could find a way to counter that, also the hunger factor, but eating a few unwary travelers or an adventurer now and then shouldn't be a problem for a mage willing to become undead in the quest of eternal life/unlife.

Would capturing a genie and wishing for immortality work?

Maybe binding an extremely powerful demon and forcing it to grant your wish?

Are there any other, less rotting corspey options for mages seeking to live/unlive for ever?

Soloing advice

OK, I need some advice, I want to solo blackpits 1&2 with a Sorcerer and need to know if its really possible?

During my Google search I've found a topic where people said they actually did solo blackpits 1 with x/y/z class/kit, but none really said anything about doing it with a Sorcerer. I haven't found anything about soloing black pit 2 at all.

Also, soloing bg1 and bg2 with a general mage, any tips would be welcoming. As usual, no I don't like to multi/dual class.

So, what are the chances, dear copyright holders?

Is BG2 just a wee bit less difficult than BG1?

The simple question is found the thread title

I am near the end of BG1, and I'm having serious issues dealing with Slythe and Krystin. I simply can't beat them. At least not if I insist on not sacrificing a member or two. So far, I have been using a guide to help me with the essential stuff, telling me where to go next, who to talk to, etc. Now, where I'm getting at is this: I decided to play (and complete) BG1, just to get the backstory, make a somewhat proper character I would export into BG2 when the time came, and getting the true feeling of an epic adventure. I'm getting a bit tired of getting whooped time after time though, and I fear it will only get worse when I am to face Sarevok. If I recall correctly, I believe to remember that BG2 was a "cozier", even if the only thing I managed to complete was getting out of Irenicus' Dungeon and save/rescue Aerie. So, I was thinking to myself; "Do I really need to go through this ? I surely hope not", and began thinking if I should just skip to BG2, which has been given far more positive credit and reviews, and have romances (yes, I think I would enjoy those). I also feel like I have understood all the major things that needed to be understood during Gorion's Ward's adventures throughout the first game.

Go ahead, call me a wuss, weakling or (even worse) casual for not completing BG1, defeating Sarevok and all that jazz. I might do, eventually. But if you could just answer my little question, you would have my thanks.

Ps. this is all the originial versions of the series (plus expansions), from 1998 and 2000 respectively. Sorry my mediocre english, if there were to be found missing words, typos, or inadequate grammar.

Current State of Beamdog Contract for Baldur's Gate?

It seems that Atari is out of the picture. What is the current state of the Beamdog Contract for Baldur's Gate? Will there ever be a point where Beamdog can "change existing content"? Did that specification come from Hasbro or Atari?

Thanks,

Bill

ToB Quests for Core NPCs

What questlines would you have wanted to see for the non-EE companions in "Throne of Bhaal"?

I figure Edwin would take another crack at figuring out the Nether Scrolls, and the player could choose whether to help or secretly sabotage him - if he succeeds, you get a lich party member for about a week until he finally turns on you; if he fails, you get to keep Edwin through to the end of the game.

Aerie would finally track down the slavers who took her from her home, and decide what to do with them now that she's an all-powerful archmage with a Rashemi bodyguard.

Thoughts on the other party members?

Here's the catch:

Explain why you would (or wouldn't) date the NPC above, regardless of gender , and finish by giving the name of another NPC (supposedly a playable one, or at least one that everyone knows).

So here we go:
