Has anyone Keeper'd Neera into a sorceress?

$

Hi, friends, I've been thinking about ideas for my next BG run, and one of the things I'm thinking about is trying to carry both Neera and Rasaad through the whole trilogy, since I've never experienced Beamdog's new content in BG2:EE.

I play minimal reload, and I'm worried enough about carrying Rasaad through BG1, in hopes of a "warriors are linear, wizards (monks) are quadratic" sort of payoff in BG2, without also having to worry about wild mage surges causing reloads.

So, I'm thinking of Keepering Neera into a sorceress. I think her story will still make pretty good sense with her as a sorceress, especially if I imagine that all sorcerers are considered "wild mages" by the wizardly establishment. After all, sorcerers are the traditional class that is considered "undisciplined, chaotic, drawing on intuition and innate ability for their magic instead of careful study and learning, without regard for the safety of others", and to me, the wild mage class seems to be a variation on the theme.

For precedent and example, any "mage" who is either male or practicing away from the auspices of the White Tower in Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" world, is considered to be a "wild mage," or "wildling". The Red Ajah in Jordan's world is at least somewhat similar to the Red Wizards of Thay in the Forgotten Realms world.

My question here is, when I recruit Neera, and use Keeper to set her to level zero, change her class, and then relevel her as a sorceress, will her wild surge variable be erased, or will I wind up with a sorceress who has wild surges?

If the answer is that her wild surge variable will still be there, I would like to know what I need to do in Keeper to erase it.

Also, feel free to use this thread to discuss any thoughts about sorcerers vis a vis wild mages, as I am also interested in game philosophy along these lines.

Multiplayer Questions.

So in the far future a friend and I might be doing a Multiplayer run. It's his first time playing the game and my first time playing Multiplayer so I have a few questions.

First: Can you play multiplayer with mods? I enjoy using a mod that removes class/race restrictions as well as Tome and Blood. On our first run I plan on playing mod-less so he can enjoy the vanilla game but later we may do The Black Pits and so I'd enjoy using some of the modded classes and such.

Second: Does dialogue operate differently with Multiplayer? I would assume it works as normal though the host would make all the decisions or is this false?

Third: How does the pause function (space bar) work? Is it absent or can only the host pause or can anyone pause?

4th: If we save and exit, how would we re-join the game?

5th: How are NPCs handled? Can anyone control them, just the host, or does it work in some other fashion?

I plan on letting my friend host so he can be the Bhaalspawn ( I think that's how it works) and he can experience the story while I just tag along as we RP together.

Sarevok underpowered

Sarevok is typically regarded as one of the better NPCs both for RP reasons and his excellent stats. But I seriously think he's a liability in combat.

The problem is that as a pure Fighter, he can't cast Stone/IronSkins. As getting hit is unavoidable in ToB, particularly with SCS, I have sometimes found it a struggle to keep him alive. Yes, he can dish out a lot of damage and has plenty of HP but his survivability is still limited. You could pick Hardiness a lot but that means less GWWs, which are useful for a 2h character.

I'm currently playing through ToB on Insanity with SCS and Item Revisions (among other mods). For this playthough, I Keepered Sarevok at the beginning to turn him into a Zerker/Mage. Having Stoneskin has made such a big difference. I'm really not sure how I would have kept him in one piece during the battles against SCS-improved demons dealing double damage if he was just a Fighter.

This has made me think that generally speaking, melee in ToB is suicidal for any build that can't cast Stone/IronSkins, with the possible exception of a Monk as their AC can become very low. I've read that the Zerker/Cleric is thought of as a good build but my experience with Sarevok makes me skeptical, particularly as that build won't even be getting Hardiness.

Or am I just doing it wrong?

...and why is it the Bounty Hunter?
Goddamn I love this guy so much. Scout the place, set the traps, backstab a sucker and let the rest chase you, hear that nice SNAP sound and watch everything explode.
Stand aside ASSassins and swashies, Bounty Hunter is king.

As the title suggests, pick a character from BG and Co. and try to descibe them in only one (short) sentence.
Don't name the character, that's up for the readers to guess ;)

I'll start:

{Spoilers} BUG? Stuck at KALAH after killing him and MINSC was beserk

When I made Minsc go beserk he was fighting some shadows with an ineffective weapon.

The rest of my party members killed KALAH and had not killed the shadows.

After Kalah got killed the illusion was dispelled and we were back in the TENT however without Minsc who was still fighting the shadows in the illusionary room. I do not have control over him when he is BERSERK I did summon a NYMPH but she was also unable to kill the shadows.
Even after Minsc was unbeserked I could then click on him but I still could not control him fully, there was no way for him to EXIT the room and stuck there unable to join the rest of the party and still being attacked by the shadows that were still alive.

The rest of the party could not leave the tent (unable to venture forth until you gather your group message)

I was able to REMOVE Minsc from party and continue however I lost a character for some stupid BUG reason.

Any way around this or do I just have RELOAD to an earlier SAVE? OR I could let MINSC die and ressurrect him later?
Also KALAHs corpse dropped something and could not be looted.

I think we've all had these moments (working with AI, in BG, others)

BG1(Enhanced, BG2(Enhanced), or Pillars?

So I want to start playing one of the three games posted in my title. Does anyone have any recommendation for which I should begin first? I've heard BG2 is a vast improvement over the first, however is it recommended to start at the first game?

Looking for someone with experience that could help give me some insight.

Thanks.

Why do you guys reroll (stats) so much?

This discussion was created from comments split from: Fighter\Druid (And Import to BG2:EE).

After @DevilTyphoon said that he spent 4 hrs rolling stats for his Fighter/Druid (and he is by no means the exception, based on comments I've read in the past), it made me wonder... why do some of you spend so much effort rolling for 90+ stats, when it is so easy to just console or Keeper whatever you want?

Custom PC & NPC Portraits

Building on the original thread, started by @Syntia13, this is intended to be a hub to share alternate, fan-made portraits for the enhanced editions of the series. In order to keep the thread running and make it a comprehensive source for portraits, please abide by the site rules and a few guidelines:

Thread Rules

1: Respect artists' creations and their right to them. If portrait-makers ask that you not edit their work, don't. If a mistake is made, simply edit your post to remove the image, apologize, forgive and forget.
2: Do not share images for which you have not received permission from the artists, when possible.* This is particularly true of art from DeviantArt, which hosts many artists who do not want their work shared elsewhere.
3: If you request that a portrait be made, recognize that the artists in this forum do this simply because they enjoy contributing to the community. Be patient, be respectful and say thank you.
4: Be supportive! Many of the artists here are just beginning to learn how to make portraits. Be positive and constructive in your comments, and avoid pointless negativity.
5: If you are making and posting portraits, state who you used as a model (if applicable), either here or on your website. Understand that this still does not make the likeness your property, and be prepared to remove the image if so requested by the copyright holder.

*Understandably, the source of some older portraits is unknown. If in doubt, go to Google Images and drag the portrait to the search bar. You may find the artist or source through that method. Again refer to Rule 1.

Guide to Using Custom Portraits

Portraits in the enhanced editions use three images in bitmap (.bmp) format, the largest of which is only shown during the epilogue in Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. The three sizes are 210x330, 169x266 (displayed in the character sheet) and 54x84 (displayed on the right UI bar).*

To use custom portraits for your PC:
1: Navigate to your Baldur's Gate directory in (My) Documents.
2: Drop the custom portraits into the Portraits folder.
3: In the game, select Custom when choosing a portrait and select the medium and small sizes. Alternately, if you have already begun your game, select Customize/Appearance from the character sheet.

To use custom portraits for NPCs:
1: Rename the portrait files to match the NPC whose portraits you want to replace. For example, Jaheira's portraits are named JaheiraL, JaheiraM and JaheiraS. There are some portraits in BG1 that do not conform to this, and those in BG2 have their own naming format. Consult this site.
2: Place the portraits in your override folder, located in the directory where you installed the game.

*Note that after the latest patch, the games allow a single large portrait size to be automatically adjusted to the proper sizes. I currently do not recommend this, as it causes pixelation in the small 54x84 version.

If you like the portraits you see here or at any of the sites below, leave a comment here or on the artist's website. We love making portraits, and we love hearing how you connect to them through the game.

Question about Ankheg's Acid Attack

$

Alrighty, so I was out in the area where you emerge from Mulahey's lair, and encountered some Ankhegs.

I went in for the attack and things seemed to be going fine, but then I noticed Dynaheir was no longer in the party. Now, in my previous encounters with Ankhegs, their acid damage could be severe, even insta-kill. But, Dynaheir's items are not dropped anywhere, and I did not see it happen--the green spray incoming, Dynaheir screaming her death. Can the acid attack vaporize the items you're wearing, or what? Did the game bug out on me?

I'm trying to decide whether this is a legit reason to reload; if not, I'll just accept her death and move on.

Any ankheg lorists out there?

So you wander through Athkatla and stumble into a derelict house. The door was rigged with a nefarious trap that drained your life force a bit, so you will have to go to a temple later to get that fixed. Odd that there would be such a nasty trap on the door to a house that only had a few minotaurs squatting in it (not sure where they came from). A brief search of the house reveals nothing of real interest, so you head to the basement. Suddenly you feel very uneasy as you appear to be in an ancient tomb with monolithic statues on each side. There is an aura of unease and the unnatural that seeps into your body and disturbs you to your very core. There is a giant sarcophagus in the middle of the room and the closer you get to it the more uncomfortable you feel. You open it.

As you open the sarcophagus your senses are assaulted by that horrible feeling and a golden skull starts talking to you and promising rewards beyond imagining if you help it find the rest of its body. You say no and the skull curses you out and mentions something about a coming reign of terror.

Later in your adventures you stumble upon two other tombs that are similar to the one with the golden skull. You are curious as to if these also have golden skulls in them so you open them as well. Opening both of these other tombs seemed to release some manner of lich guardian. They both spoke in tones that were both indignant an somewhat frightened. They spoke dire warnings about some "Kangaxx" that they did not want to get free. Before you could get a straight answer from them they both decided it would be better just to kill you. You survived the battles against these two liches by the skin of your teeth, only just barely defeating them.

You open the tombs again and see parts of a golden skeleton and when you reach out to touch the pieces you become overwhelmed with a horrifying sense of evil and pain. So you wrap the pieces in cloth so you can bring the pieces with you without touching them. Then, for whatever reason, you return to the golden skull and it politely asks you to change your mind about helping it. You have all the missing pieces of its skeleton so you figure "What the hell? Nothing bad could possibly happen." and put the skeleton back together.

So my question is this: Is Charname the dumbest person in existence or what? So many things wrong and so many warning signs... I don't even know where to start! How do you RPers ever justify doing this quest without RPing an insane or intensely stupid person?

Baldur's Gate & Icewind Dale Jeopardy! (May contain spoilers!)

Dear Ladies and Gentlehamsters,

welcome to the Reverse Question Thread, or
"Baldur's Gate Jeopardy" if you like.

In this thread I want users to provide answers.
But without any questions asked beforehand.

Instead it works the other way around.
You present answers and the others must find
appropriate questions that fit your given answer.

Example: Answer: "Boo"
Possible Questions: "Who's the cutest miniature space giant hamster?"
"What's the name of Minsc's animal companion?"
"What is Oob spelled backwards?"

Please post only one new answer at a time.
However you may post several questions to all answers given so far in this thread.
Answers and questions have to be Baldur's Gate related.

I'll start first:
Answer: "Plug tails"

Now it's your turn to think of questions that fit that answer or to provide
a new answer.

Have fun!

for clarification: You can provide questions to old, given answers as many as you like.
The rule above just says that you must not provide more than one new answer at a time.

for example: You do not always have to provide a question to the latest answer.
Just provide questions to any previous answers you like.

Announcement: With the upcoming Icewind Dale:EE I hereby extend this thread to the Icewind Dale games.

Tlent on Twitter: "In the Adventure Yk you'll meet again Albert the Demon"

In the most recent tweet Tlent O. revealed that the certain part of the next "Baulder's Gate game", as several video-game sites call it, will be around the story of "Albert, the lad who asked the Bhaalspawn to bring back his dear little dog - Rufie".

"In the return Gorion's ward chose to kill Ruffie. Now in the Adventure Yk Albert transfers Charname and his party to an Outer Plane and only the powerful Demon and his mysterious Clan dictate the fate of Ruffie's murderers".

Whoa! An adventure to an Outer Plane with a low-level party sounds amazing and I've always wanted to find out about this "clan" of Albert.

The only thing I can add is to quote Albert's last words from BG1:

"You... you killed Rufie! I can smell his blood on you! What kind of monsters would do that to a helpless little puppy?! The clan is not going to be pleased! They were right about you Prime people! I'm not gonna trust your kind no more! "

Will we ever see "Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition"?

(from http://www.ironworksforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2043):

There are three Flaming Fist Mercenaries on horseback out in the river bottoms. As they are riding along a small wounded gibberling runs out in front of them. It stops and turns their way.

The poor gibberling was mortally wounded (slash through the midsection by a long sword +1).

This was no oridinary gibberling, it spoke Common. The three FF mercenaries were astonished and dumbfounded when they heard this.

The gibberling said, "If you help me, I will grant you three wishes, or if you kill me a great death will come upon you."

The FF mercenaries decided to take the lawful way, and help out the poor monster. They took it to the local healer (Temple of Helm) and he gladly helped out anything in need.

After it was all cleaned up it was about to leave. Than it turned to the FF mercenaries and said, "about the three wishes, you must split them up between you; only 1 wish apiece."

The FF mercenaries were not happy; they thought they were getting 3 wishes apiece. The mercenaries were all different in one way. One of them was very fat, the other was a tall and skinny man, and the last was small and fat.

The gibberling then said, "I can see that you are not happy with my decision, but I will give you two days to decide." Once you have decided I will be waiting here for you," said the gibberling.

The mercenaries left and talked on their way back to their houses. "I dont think that is fair, we cared for that little beast and this is how it repays us," said the fat one. "Yea, I say we get the wishes and then we kill it for sport," said the tall one. The small and plump one was happy unlike the others, because he was a poor halfling with a bad house and job (being a FF mercenary must suck).

As they split up to go their seperate ways they waved good-bye. The tall one went to the left, fat one the middle, and halfling the right.

The next morning the local town crier was distributing the newspaper called the Elven Classic. The fat and halfling mercenaries met in the town square where he was. They asked for a newspaper to check out teh local problems. There on the front page, read in large letters "FLAMING FIST MERCENARY MURDERED"

At the site of this, the fat and halfling mercenaries started to panick. They went to their friends house.. and to their suprise there were many guards out in front. They went up and asked one of them what had happened here. He said that the FF mercenary inside was murdered during the night. They said his head was shoved though a wall with slash marks over his body. The FF mercenaries were scared out of their wits that they ran all the way back to the town square.

By this time it was turning darker, and the sky turned a deeper blue. "I better get home soon, incase my wife needs me," said the fat one. The halfling split up and went his own way to his house. As he entered the door he locked it and checked all the windows. He got in bed with his sword and shield by his side. He got up in the morning to find his body was still intact. He went outside with his armor on. He then went to the town square to meet his friend.

Today was the day he would get his wish he thought as he headed to meet his friend. He arrived and did not find his friend inside the town square. There the town crier was selling more newspapers. The halfling bought one and AGAIN on the front read "ANOTHER FLAMING FIST MERCENARY MURDERED".

The little halfling was shocked and at this he ran over to his friends house. There in front were some more guards. He couldn't believe that his only friends had been murdered by some beast. He than thought of the Temple of Helm and his wish. He ran over there as fast as he could. There just as he said so the gibberling had waited for them.

"Where have you been, its late in the day and I must get going," said the gibberling. "Sorry to be late, but my friends were murdered in the night," said the Halfling. "Sorry to hear that *snicker* *snicker* I hope you are ready for your THREE wishes now that your friends are gone," replied the gibberling. "Really!? I get three wishes now! Cool!," said the halfling.

At that the halfling used up two of his wishes, one on a new house and the other on the strongest shield and sword in the land. On his last wish he thought very hard, and decided to bring his friends back from the dead. At these last words the gibberling casted the spell/wish and his friends appeared in front of him. Just as he did this the gibberling said his good-byes.

He ran off down the ridge and over the hill out of sight. The halfling asked his friends if they were feeling ok. They replied in unison,"We are fine, but we still remember what killed us. In the faint shadows we could see that it was a small beast the size of a gibbe...OH MY GOD! YOU LET THE BEAST GO!!!."

At those words, they glanced the way that the gibberling had ran. "Do you think the wound that that gibberling had was from a sword of an unhappy customer?" said the Halfling. "We shall never speak of this again," they all said together. Was it the gibberling who had done the carnage? Or was it another monster still lurkering in the city limits?

Any way to become immune to dispel/remove magic if you're not part mage?

$

Mages have their toy for this, spell immunity: abjuration, which makes dispels bounce off you harmlessly, but since I'm currently playing a ranger/cleric, it makes me wonder whether or not it's possible with them too. There's a new belt that can cast globe of minor invulnerability, which is supposed to protect against level 3 or lower spells, but Firkraag's remove magic didn't really seem to care about that tiny fact.

Does shield of the archons provide any resistance, or maybe spell turning from the book of infinite spells? It's been a while since I've played a high level non-mage char, and I can't seem to recall any tricks for dispel immunity it seems...
