How to keep 2 installations of BGEE, BG2EE, and IWDEE in sync

I use to play BGEE, BG2EE, and IWDEE on two machines. While it's easy to keep the save files in sync between the machines (rsync is your friend, and all save files are in one directory) it's not that easy to keep the game itself and all mods synchronized without installing each mod in the same order on the second machine.

The question is: Which files and folders are to be synchronized between two machines in order to have the same gameplay on both machines?

after 42 hours of installation of the BiG World "Tactics version" it's finally done and man was it worth the time? I must tell....I finally decided to trash BGEE1&2 (snipped). every bit of mod I'm lovin it (although it may still not perfect) and man I'm thanking all of the modders of Baldur's Gate...well, what can you expect after 15 years right? Pure awesomeness!

Goodbye BGEE for now....I still love the community it created. Mostly great people here too and I still kept on coming back for more awesome tips and tricks from you guys. :P

Also other things i should or should not do?

Appreciation for the Screenshot feature

I've come to believe that one of the very best (and perhaps underappreciated) "enhancements" of the EEs is the ability to take screenshots during gameplay.

Like a lot of people here, I had initially used this feature to highlight uniquely funny and/or unusual events that happened in my playthroughs, or as a means to better illustrate bugs. However, I now use this feature to keep a virtual "scrapbook" of my adventures. Previously, once I had completed a BG playthrough, I was left with only faded memories of my adventure, and I could only quench my desire to relive it by starting a new one. Now, I can better appreciate my individual adventures by browsing through my "scrapbook" and reminiscing to myself about my experience. I've taken over a thousand screenshots related to just a single playthrough!

I also love whenever I chunk an enemy, to repeatedly tap the "Print screen" button to create multiple screenshots as the pieces fly. Then I scroll through the shots - it's like watching a slow-motion replay of the chunking!

Anyone else here share the same unhealthy obsession with the screenshot feature that I do?

Return player looking for help

It's been a while since I played BG due to a crashing problem that became too annoying to bear but now seems remedied with my latest rig. That's the good newz. The bad is that I'm starting from scratch again after a VERY long hiatus so consider me a newb until the legacy synapse begins to kick in. Well, to the main inquiry...

I've been touching base with dual vs. multi-class, in this case, for a planned vanilla ("vanilla" meaning basic, non-EE BG) fighter/mage. The sources checked have resolved many questions, but I am still blurry about which is the best way to maximize new class benefits and how best to determine the leveling sequence. Apparently, at game end I can reach Ftr7/Mage7, need Str15 & Int17 minimum to start, but that's about all that is certain for me at this point. Once source suggested going mage after Ftr4 but IIRC it was a dual-class plan and didn't really recommend how best to proceed. Multi-classing the same would have different constraints like suitable race, for instance. Since BG has such a large scope, I'd prefer to have a preset plan in place before needing to restart to just to learn basics.

ATM I have no plans to continue the toon into BGII, though I will likely purchase the game in the future. From what I've read, that would be a major consideration to take into effect so at least that is a non-issue now.

As far as the party mix goes, in the past I used to limit it to as few as possible, mainly a good thief (if I didn't multiclass myself) and cleric, soloing quite a bit, but will be using a more typical party size/mix in this reintroduction run-through. Not that party mix should really affect the toon's leveling sequence, but giving as full a snapshot as possible.

I must say that after delving into the BG information available web-wide I've learned a lot more than I ever knew before, previously stumbling around by trial 'n error, and look forward to putting some of those tips to good use.

Thank you, in advance, for any direction. Should you remember any former posts (or external links) that would address my questions, posting the link(s) would be just fine and possibility save a bit of typing. (I hope this the correct forum for a general post like this.)

If BG came out today...

We have a successful You know you're playing too much Baldur's Gate when... thread.

Recently, having seen a post by @terzaerian‌ , another idea of a thread came to me.

So, if BG came out today...

1. Each stronghold would have been a $25 piece of DLC

2. Steam would explode with 1 000 000 000 of people currently playing BG

3. People would name their children "Sarevok" and "Shar-Teel"

4. There would appear 1000+ mods about cars, underwear and bras on the Sword Coast

5. We would have the proper TV series about the Iron Throne

AI scripts for Android

Hi all. I'm looking for a (set of) AI scripts that I can install on Android. I know, I'm a terrible person for not wanting to make every spell decision myself, but mostly I can't be bothered doing it all every battle because I'm often playing on my phone, and that makes it seem like more of a pain.

So, I have previously used uScript, and I know there are various series, such as the BP series, but it's not clear to me how to do this for an android phone, and which are suitable for the EE series, including IWD if possible.

Thanks!

Trickster Character

Hello!

I come again to ask about character design. This time I'm proposing an idea for a playful trickster character.
I'm thinking a gnome bard (BG2 tweaks mod) Jester. I also feel though the legal illusionist/thief could also fill the role. What do you guys think?

As I learn more from this forum, I realize how much about the game I didn't know about. There were items, strategies and spells that could have made my life a lot easier against various monsters. There were dialogue options I had never been given. Easter Eggs I never knew about. Etc, etc.

I was interested in seeing this kind of topic ever since my boy @Quartz‌ said that he never made Crom Faeyr. So I made this thread for us all to confess our Baldur's Gate sins. Come and admit that you never completed your stronghold, you've never even heard of Kangaxx, never killed Firkraag or are still dying to know where Hull misplaced his longsword.

I'll begin:

Confession: I have never done the Viconia romance.

Confession: I have never played a thief character.

Portraits for BG from Pillars of Eternity

In the latest Pillars of Eternity update we finally got a character portrait in a good resolution. It looks gorgeous!

image

So, no doubt about it: when Pillars of Eternity are out, portraits from that game will more than suit BG.

By the way, the name of this portrait is "pe_portrait_female_human_580" which leads me to dream that we'll have MANY portraits in Pillars of Eternity for PCs and NPCs.

Fighter/Mage/Thief vs Mage/Thief (for full BGEE/BG2EE playthrough)

So, I've got my cleric/mage, sorcerer, wild mage ready for BG2EE playthroughs, and I'm trying to decide between f/m/t and m/t for my next playthrough. I'm having trouble discerning what the fighter part of the multiclass brings over the m/t version.

f/m/t brings:
- better thac0
- more proficiency points
- better hitpoints
- I am pretty sure it gets extra attacks per round, but I'm not sure on the exact details, anyone care to fill me in please?

f/m/t loses:
- mage HLAs, even if xp cap is removed (though I have found a mod that "fixes" this within the framework of what the engine allows).

m/t brings:
- full mage HLAs
- more mage spell slots
- faster progression

m/t loses:
- fighter HLAs
- the other fighter bonuses already mentioned (hp, thac0 etc)

In most discussions I've seen about things like this, people mention using tensers to get the fighter thac0 when you want it etc.. but I'd prefer to leave that possibility out of the discussion (I'd be using the spell slots for other spells normally etc).

I'm not considering the dual class thief -> mage etc, because I'd like to get some of the thief HLAs eventually (Use any item springs to mind for this concept).

Thanks for any advice!

Monks with Offhand Weapons

I've just recently gotten my Dark Moon Monk into SoA and found Belm. I was amazed when I equipt it to my offhand and I still retained my monk bonus' with fist weapons as well as the APR boost from Belm! So my level 11 monk is running around with 5 APR very early in SoA.

Is this a well known thing to all you monk players out there? It was a pretty sweet surprise to me.

I keep seeing folks rattling off all kinds of specific details about BG series games and have gathered that there is some sort of resource for getting specific details about Spell Effects, Monster stats, etc. Could someone tell me what that is. Baldur's Gate Wiki is not all that informative.
