Moving NPCs (Primarily Alora).

Played through Baldur's Gate many times now but just found Alora.

Holy crap she's SUPER adorable. I'm in love! I found a mod to add her in BGII with interactions and everything <3.

I just wish you could get her earlier on in the game D:

Does anyone know of a way to move NPCs? I normally don't like messing with the game but I'd love to RP with her more than just the latter half of the game.

Chronic Restarting Detox Camp

Hi, my name's demented and I'm a chronic restarter. I wasn't always this way, I use to play games with only one character and saw it through to the end. There would be no roleplaying or multi-classing. Baldur's Gate changed that. Now I can barely get an hour in without restarting the game. There are just too many possibilities.

I might start with a monk who's devoted to justice. She eventually gets kicked out of her order for her actions and becomes a Kensai warrior who metes out her form of justice to those she sees as guilty. Then I'll think of a cleric/wizard who's determined to uncover the deepest secrets of magic, but eventually goes insane from his quest.

I've tried playing other video games but I just get bored. For Bhaal's sake I played Metal Gear Solid 4 for the first time yesterday and all I could think about was my wild mage Anansi. I need help.

Should "Chaotic Commands" cure "Confusion" or just prevent "Confusion"?

Minsc was hit by Confusion (from an umber hulk) then my cleric cast Chaotic Commands... which didn't stop Minsc from being Confused.

When characters have been Feared, the Remove Fear spell cures the fear.
When characters have been Confused, the Chaotic Commands spell doesn't cure the confusion.

Chaotic Commands only works when cast before the Confusion is cast.

Should Chaotic Commands cure Confusion or just prevent it?

How should Chaotic Commands work?

powergaming party (BG2 TOB,NPC and multiplayer)

What is the most powergaming party that you can think of?

two different groups of posts
1) multiplayer created party by player. What classes/races (and items)
2) charname + npc's. What npc's
-this is not 1 vs 2 but creating 2 different threads for 1 purpose is silly
-bg2 tob exp limit
-no mods

and why is this the most powergaming?

for example
F/M/T half-elf - like kensai mage but +100dmg with backstab
Kensai13/Mage - i think everyone know why kensai/mage
cleric/specjalist mage - healer who is almost immortal
mage slayer13/mage - antimage
edwin - most spells

npc's
F/M/T op op
sarevok dualed to mage op
edwin - op op op
aerie - op multi
keldorn - op dispell
Cernd - SS f yeah

like you can see I prefer magic :)

Is this possible? May be a fools hope, but i think it would be quite nice if it were able.

Come suggest some theme songs for each NPC!

For the music lovers out there!
What songs do you guys think would be fitting for each NPC? Share a tune that fits their character, their story or their attitude.

All suggestions welcome!

I'll begin with some:

Due t his marriage difficulties and his wife's name, I'll give Keldorn "Maria, Maria" by Santana. The pain in his voice when he says "Maria!" after his wife says "What if I don't love you anymore?" is just heartbreaking. Also, Manowar's "Heart of Steel" just describes his attitude toward evil perfectly for me
image
image

Dorn must have some kind of song about being badass and evil. The songs "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood would fit, but I'm a big metal fan, so I'll give him Iced Earth's "Pure Evil"
image
image

Eldoth just has to be an outlaw country song, so I either have to go with "Didn't Your Mama Tell ya 'bout Boys Like Me" by Montgomery Gentry or for a better song, Iron Maiden's "Running Free"
image
image

Skie would definitely be the Upper Middle Class spoiled girl who totally thinks she's cool for listening to rrap, so I'd have to give her some Kanye (the go-to artist for these people). She's also the totally non-metal sorority girl who constantly misuses Dio's horn sign while listening to Blink 182

The Tale of the Totemic Druid

Inspired by this tread and thanks to @bbear here I’m going to tell a story about Karasu no Yoru, a totemic druid raised in the Candlekeep and destined to become a major figure in the history of the Sword Coast.

The name of the character is in Japanese and means his name actually is Yoru (night) and he comes from the Karasu (crow) clan known for shamans and spirits.

Here's the character sheet at the start of the game.
image
The main incentive is to find out what it takes to successfully solo the whole game (from the start of BG:EE to the end of BG2:EE) with the totemic druid. There’s a discussion about which class is the hardest for a solo run in that thread and it seems many people vote for a druid. So I’ve decided to test it and will gladly write about it for those who are interested in the concept.

I’m playing on the Core difficulty and here’s my weiDU log:

I consider myself an experienced player, had different playthroughs in the past but have never tried the totemic druid. This kit seems interesting to me because it shows the true, from my point of view, nature of a druid – a summoner. In the past I played as an Avenger and liked it much but the Avenger feels more like a druid/mage, while a Shapeshifter obviously feels more like a fighter/druid. A vanilla druid is fine as well but I just like using a kit and not a vanilla version (if it’s not a dual- or multi-class). So, the totemic druid it is.

I understand the problems that can arise because of the SCS but I hope that my knowledge of the game will help to overcome these difficulties. I seriously think that with some meta-gaming even the power of SCS can be not so dangerous. I think than so bad (yeah) thing as the meta-gaming needs serious countermeasures such as not OP class, not min-maxed stats, smarter AI and so on.

As a rule, I try to role-play my character and his party as much as I can but this time it will be different. And I’m so excited – it’s a challenge, and a good one. I’ll try to play a no-reload run with an option for minimal reloads if the character will be killed but I will feel myself attached to it. Also, your reactions, ideas and just a general discussion is much appreciated ;)))

Imoen's thief skills BG1 to BG2

Question - If you build Imoen as the thief you mean her to be in BG1:EE, up to level 8, and then export-import your BG1:EE party into BG2:EE, will she still have the thief skills you gave her and intended for her to have in your BG2:EE game?

Or, will BG2:EE reset her thief abilities to their puny, lame, almost useless levels in favor of the BG2 conception of Imoen as weak thief>now mage. I've always hated the BG2 decision to change Imoen into a mage, the unrealistic free 8 levels of mage be damned.

To me, Imoen will always be my Little Orphan Annie, my little sister, my conscience, my guide, and my heart. In my imagination, Imoen is the thief class to the core of her being. That unfortunate wild magic surge that caused her to suddenly *appear* to cast a magic missile in the Amnish Promenade after months of horror and torture at the hands of Irenicus was just a freak accident of nature and a misunderstanding. (*Bhaal* nature, as it later turned out.)

I know I can use Keeper to change Imoen into what I think she should be at the beginning of BG2:EE, but that's kind of a pain. It would at least give me what I might accept if Imoen could arrive in BG2:EE from an imported party while retaining the build I chose for her during BG1:EE.

Does that happen, or am I stuck with Keepering Imoen every time I start BG2:EE?

Custom Monk Class - Balancing Advice

Hi all,

I'm looking to do a solo BG2 SCS run with a customised monk class. I'm going to add some abilities to the vanilla monk and remove others to better fit the type of character I want to play, and I just wanted your advice and opinions on whether the proposed changes are balanced or if they would make the character over / under powered.

In essence, I am looking to play a martial arts specialist who can harness his inner rage at the cost of some of the monk's disciplined attacks. These are the changes I propose to make:

Alignment: Chaotic rather than Lawful

Advantages (over normal Monk):

Can use Berserker Enrage once per day per 4 levels.
Can put skill points into Detect Illusions as well as Find Traps and Stealth (but does not gain any additional skill points).

Disadvantages (over normal Monk):

Cannot Lay on Hands.
Cannot use Stunning Blows.
Cannot use Quivering Palm.
Gets zero weapon proficiency points (can still use normal monk weapons but is not proficient in any of them).

What do you think? The Enrages will make this character a lot more durable and less susceptible to hold/stun type spells, as well as providing his only means of avoiding level drain. But this is at the cost of all the monk's special attacks, as well as any weapon skills.

Do you think these changes are balanced?

New Beamdog AMA

In 40 hours (November, 19, at 2 p.m. Edmonton time, 9 p.m. London, 4 p.m. New York) Beamdog will start an AMA on Reddit. http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/578144/#Comment_578144

The further details are unknown yet, so we have to wait.

The last Beamdog AMA had been 2 years ago, before even BGEE was shipped http://www.reddit.com/comments/z1af7/we_are_overhaul_games_the_team_behind_baldurs/

It was very insightful and full of information about Beamdog's further plans.

Now, when IWDEE is out, I guess this new AMA could let us understand the future: IWD2EE? IWD3? PSTEE? Adventure Y? Something totally new?

Like my Priest of Tempus would say, I'm so excited and i just can't hide it.

Idea for a Sorccerer Kit

The idea is the following:
Instead of selecting spells available for casting at level up the spells are selected at random. To compensate for that the caster gets double the spell selection per level. If its possible the spells that will be learned should be randomly selected after character generation instead of when leveling up so that you can't just reload until you get what you want.

BG2 too easy to exploit...a suggestion:

Hello all,

Just wanted to throw an idea out there. I find that this game allows you too easy an opportunity for unlimited gold and ridiculous uber-powerful equipment early on in the game. The way this is done is simply by stacking potions of master thieving to get your pickpocket over 200% and then essentially stealing everything that isn't tied down. Many shopkeepers allow you the option to steal. This can cause such an imbalance in the game that it ceases to be as much fun. Also, places like the Thieves' Guild, Mae'var's, and Roger the Fence(sewers) will allow you to sell stolen goods which pretty much leads to unlimited gold if you steal, sell back, repeat enough times.

With the single potion of thieving you find in Irenicus' dungeon and the ones you can purchase at Ribald's, you can get your (or Yoshimo's) pickpocket up high enough to steal the following(on Waukeem's Promenade alone):

Field Plate(x2)
+2 large and med shield
arrows of biting, and others
80 arrows of dispelling
high level scrolls (including a limited wish scroll which you can use to get a suit of +2 field plate)
all 5 wands from Irenicus's dungeon with maximum charges (sell and steal back)
Ring of Regen(pickpocketed directly off Ribald so I guess this one could be legit...ish)

Then, when you get to the slums, you can clean out the upstairs shop in Galen's house(arrows of acid, potions galore, almost any +1 magic weapon or armor, glasses of ID), Bernard's shop(xbow of speed, sword of flame, high level spells, Blade of Roses+3, Stonefire Axe +3, Sling of Seeking+2, Azuredge)

At the docks, you can acquire from Mae'Var's guildhall: Nymph Cloak, +2 weapons, Bracers of AC6, potions galore including enough thieving and perception potions to last you the whole game.

In the Sewers, Roger the fence has just about every potion you can think of.

In Trademeet, one of the vendors (not sure which) has the +3 acid club(Blackblood), Belt of Inertial Barrier, Cloak of Displacement, +3 Dwarven Thrower, Ras +2, Tansheron's Bow +3, and a Staff of Striking(I think)

In the Ust Natha, you can steal Firetooth +3, potions aplenty, Sentinel(+4 med shield), amulet of 10% magic resist, Rod of Smiting+3, Staff of Earth +2, and many scrolls.

There are probably more I have forgotten but you get the gist.

Overall, these are some of the best items in the game and getting them so easily feels wrong somehow. Now I know it is a choice and I have several times enacted what I call the "code of honor" which means: either no stealing from shopkeepers or limiting it to 1 item per vendor with no option to 3R (re-steal, resell, repeat). However, it might be nice to have the option to either eliminate the steal option from the elite shopkeepers or do not allow you to stack potions of master thievery, maybe as a mod perhaps?...and while we are on the subject, how about an option to lower the treasure from a Monty Haul to a Chincie Charlie? Even playing legit with a code of honor, I eventually hit a point where gold loses it gameplay value because I get so much of it.

Your thoughts?

Inst-ed of making a icewind dale enhanced edition bemdog should focus on a baldurs gate three. There could be much potential if done right. Make a good story. For example take us back to the sword coast, no bahllspawn but a simple peasent. Have different paths such as ability to join flaming fist army and rise to war with amn and ecentually become king. Or a theif who rises to the greatest assain in the land. there could be many more, baulders gate three will make money. nuff said

What do you think would be a fair price for "Adventure Y"?

Note: this poll is only about the most expensive version of Adventure Y i.e. the PC version. Android and iOS versions are generally cheaper.

What is known? Naught but their names. The mage is Jon Irenicus. The girl is Imoen

Adventure Y is a DLC currently developed by Beamdog. It will be about the time between BG1 and BG2 events and will cover the circumstances "much darker than anyone would have thought" under which CHARNAME who had defeated Sarevok and thus had saved the Sword Coast had to escape to Amn and was kidnapped by Irenicus.

It will be released not earlier than spring of 2015.

Adventure Y will have at least one new NPC whose name starts with "Gl". Also, there can be more: "There are a few characters in Adventure Y I'm just in love with. One in particular I plan to use as my next PC if I ever find time to get involved in a p&p game again" (Andrew Foley). Maybe in the future this or these NPC (s) will appear in BG2EE.

The UI in Adventure Y will be previoosly unseen one, but will include all the enhancements Beamdog made to BGEE and IWDEE.

There will be both absolutely new locations and remastered and repainted areas from BG1 in Adventure Y.

Adventure Y (English version) will be voiced-over. We will hear the magnificent Dave Warner's voice (Irenicus) again. Maybe Jennifer Hale will be also involved. Trent Oster mentioned that the price they had to pay for VO was very high.

There will be new abilities for characters (at least one that looks like a transformation into a goblin) and/or a goblin companion.

There will possibly be new kits and spells. And items, of course.

Now, when we know all this, what do you think would be a fair price for such expansion or game (whether it's an expansion or a standalone game, remains to be seen):

Touch controls on Windows tablets

Hi,

Ive backed BGEE since the beginning on PC and was really interested to see how it worked on tablet however i didnt have one at the time. Ive just invested in a 2 in 1 windows 8.1 machine (primarily for work), but I understand the touch controls don't work for windows tablets? Ive searched for info but I can only find stuff from back when BGEE was released. In fact I think Phil Daigle said they'd look at it after release and it shouldnt be too difficult to implement :).

Was it more difficult than you thought? Is there any solution for me to try proper touch controls?
