Please do make Baldurs Gate 3

I found the game to be even better than the original Baldurs Gate in all aspects. It works better, plays better, and its more fun. Overall would do a tremendous job with Baldurs Gate 3. Those that complain obviously are either extremely picky or their computers have issues that most dont have.

Neera: "Jerome and Anton"... who?

Just started ToB, and at one point Neera starts musing about what she'd do if she wasn't here with charname -- birdwatching is one option, she claims. You can then reply: "Birdwatching? Jerome and Anton isn't enough for you?"

Can't remember which characters (if any) those are, and googling doesn't give me any obvious answers. A joke I'm simply missing? Not important, just slightly annoyed that they'd include a reference in my partychat that I seem to have no knowledge of whatsoever... Anyone know?

Is there a way to switch romances with save editing?

I know you can't do it in-game, once you piss them off they're gone for good. But is there a way to reset their romance value so that it can continue again? (And then ending the romance you had going.)

Lycanthropy question

I didn't come prepared to take on the GWW, so took the easy option of just attacking the village on Werewolf Island, and then killed the Loup Garou on the boat with no problems. I don't recall being told I was infected with Lycanthropy by Kaaisha. I then got off the island, and didn't learn about the lycanthropy infection until I went to see Mendas. By not seeing Mendas and not being told by Kaaisha that I have lycanthropy, have I circumvented the curse? I've no way of checking variables/saves as I'm on iPad with no PC. I've slept multiple times since then with no issues. In Ulgoth's Beard.

Yeah, so ... I messed up! .. No what?! :(

I just mannaged, for some reason to save over my savegame, and to make matters worse, I just got out of the Underdark, and for the first time actually took the time to do all quests and what have you.

Fool of me to forget to keep seperate saves, so now I have a Sorcerer sitting in Irenicus dungeon instead, yay me! >.<
I doubt anyone know of any ways to recover a save game? :P Or should I just make a ToB game, with the same part and EEKeeper them accordingly... *sigh* What a bummer...

Fighter/Mage Trilogy Run Build

I had been playing a Kensai with the idea to become a K/D (CH4) A class a thoroughly enjoyed when I used it to complete SoA for the first time many moons ago. It was much more fun starting in BG2. I was getting bored with a Kensai in BG1.

Anyhow, I have the urge to try something different. I am thinking F/I. My dilemma being, how to best build this character for a full trilogy run. BG1 ranged reigns supreme, but dual wielding is king in BG2 superior.

What weapons/proficiencies to people prefer? My ideas:

**2H Sword *LB * Two Handed. Bow for the first few levels. Then I figured Spiders Bane and Web would kick arse. I could move to other two handed weapons in BG2. Staff of the Magi seems killer. Or even the Ravager or Impaler with GWW.

or

**Axes **Dual Wield. Use throwing axes at range early on and Frostreaver and Azuredge in BG2.

or???

I know having Belm or Kundane in the off hand is advantageous, but I think I'll be bad ass enough without.

Best defensive character class for a non-metagamed run through the entire trilogy?

Hi everyone. @Ygramul's comment on a post of mine a few days back, that he only does SCS no-reload and non-metagamed playthroughs these days, which is generally my approach to the game as well, had me thinking:

Which solo character would be the strongest defensively throughout the trilogy? I'm saying solo character since in a full party even a commoner charname or a Loser @meagloth-style could make it.

Mind you that to me no-metagaming means no prebuffing (except for long lasting spells such as Armor, Stoneskin, Iron Skins) unless enemies have been properly scouted. This is might rule out Sorcerers as the best defensive characters I think, if we take into account into account traps and ambushes (even though ambushes might be scouted with invisibility). To those who insist that Sorcerer would be the way to go, I'd ask what character they'd consider second best, as I don't really want to play a Sorcerer.

If editing a kit into a multiclass is allowed, I'm inclined to go for Dwarven (or Halfling) Warrior/Priest, where the fighter class could be e.g. Dwarven Defender, Berserker, or Barbarian. You'll have great hitpoints and saves, and depending on the warrior class good defenses against status effects or damage resistances.
I was thinking of the Barbarian/Druid I rolled a while back, and realized that an evil Barbarian/Cleric with Human Flesh, Cloak of Balduran (which returns in my game in BG2), and other MR raising items, and the physical resistances of the Barrbarian, Hardiness HLA and Defender of Easthaven could be very difficult to kill.

Looking forward to your views.

How would an NPC react to a given situation?

@Quartz mentioned in the meme thread that no person in their right mind would return the girdle of piercing to Unshay (its proper owner).

Anyways, this got me thinking of an idea for a thread. A thread to discuss how you think any NPC in either game would react to a given situation (in this case returning this girdle).

I figure we start with how any particular NPC (in either game even if they don't make an appearance) would react to returning the girdle. After a day or two we can change the topic to another quest/event. I was thinking this would be more for joinable NPC's but feel free to discuss what the reaction would be from non-joinable NPCs.

For instance I imagine that Xan would see returning the girdle as being an entirely pointless endeavor (though if your character wants to keep him alive he/she would probably insist that he wear it all the same).

Geas - Sarevok - only for those who know lore and the Ascension mod by Weimer

I got the mod ascension installed.

Imagine that you placed a geas on sarevok. Now imagine that you talk with him. There are various outcome for your dialogues, but the (bad) outcome I'm referring to is the following one:

1 - You give no possibility to Sarevok (meaning that you tell him that you'll kill him after you have ascended)

2- You show weakness and you don't redeem him.

If you do one of these two, he will likely turn on you and Amelyssan will remove the geas to make him able to do so.. Now what I would like to ask is the following. How is Amelyssan able to remove the geas from Sarevok?
Is the geas linked to the essence per-se? Is it just lazy story-telling?

Thanks for help.

I've come to feel that BG2 is very overrated as an RPG

BG2 is often rated as the best PC RPG of all time. Admittedly, I probably felt the same way about it the first time that I played it. However, I've liked the game less and less with each successive playthrough, for the reasons explained below.

The improvements of BG2 over BG1 are obvious and frankly irrefutable - it has more magic weapons and spells, more action, more NPC interactions, and (when comparing the original versions) better graphics and an updated engine. In short, it's better than BG1 in virtually every technical/visual/superficial way.

But I've always felt that, in making such obvious improvements over BG1, the makers of BG2 forsook some of the more fundamental aspects of BG1 that made it such a great game, despite its technical inferiority. Now, with the release of BG:EE, which has "evened out" a lot of the technical disparity between the two games, BG2's limitations have been made even more apparent to me.

My biggest complaint about BG2 is the freedom - or lack thereof, I should say. In BG1, once I had left Candlekeep (which I could theoretically do at any time), I had a great wide world in front of me, with the freedom to explore largely as I pleased. Random assortments of enemies could come jumping out of the fogs of war at any time, and although I've played the game numerous times, I still have trouble keeping track of exactly where certain things and characters are, and am still surprised when I come across them. In short, the game somehow remains fresh and original nearly every time that I play it.

By contrast, BG2 feels very linear, restrictive, and repetitive IMO. It feels more like a series of extended dungeon crawls linked together, rather than the "roaming" feel of BG1. For at least half of the game, my character is trapped somewhere and following an escape route - i.e: Irenicus' dungeon, Spellhold, the ocean city, the drow city, etc. Although I have the freedom to do the Chapt 2 quests in the order that I want, the individual quests themselves also come to feel routine and repetitive after a couple of playthroughs. For example, when I set out on Nalia's quest, I merely leave Athkatla and I arrive at the castle - no need to locate the place, or explore the areas in between, like in BG1. From there, I know that I'm going to find myself on a rooftop full of snake men, a courtyard full of rabid dogs, a room full of golems, another room full of umber hulks, and then in the final battle with the troll king. While I understand that, depending on your character class, quests like this may offer some interesting options for you at the end, I often feel as though I'm being forced to follow an extended, linear -dare I say, perhaps, a bit boring? - routine in order to get to that point. In a nutshell, after having played BG2 a few times, the majority of the game ceases to feel fresh or surprising to me.

Although BG2 has more weapons and spells than BG1, this is undermined by the fact that the game is constantly nerfing these items in order to make the game feel more challenging - so while a +2 weapon is a huge deal in BG1, even +3 weapons come to feel inadequate at certain points in BG2. In other words, the "less is more" approach of BG1 allows you to better appreciate certain aspects of the game IMO.

The slower pacing and "roaming" format of BG1 also allow you to better appreciate the visual aspects of the game IMO. I actually enjoy seeing the lush green landscapes and listening to chirping birds and ocean waves crashing against cliffs. I understand that BG2's more direct structure may provide more excitement during initial playthroughs, but I feel that BG1's approach gives the game better replay value. Even the city areas in BG2 come to feel routine and repetitive IMO, because they aren't interspersed with random houses like in BG1.

Finally, I absolutely, positively cannot stand BG2's bias toward magic. I've always felt that BG1 could be won by virtually any approach if it was just done well enough. By contrast, BG2 basically forces you to be an expert in casting and dispelling magic and make this the forefront of your approach. Consequently, a number of character classes, like single class thieves, are made to feel badly nerfed or relegated to a niche role - a very crippling blow to the RP aspect of the game IMO.

Well, that's my rant for now. Your thoughts?

The Classiest Cleric

Moving right along to Cleric, this is the fourth of my favorite class/kit polls. As always, this is for personal preference, and not to say what is the strongest kit. That said, feel free to debate to your heart's content in the comments! We've had some good (albeit occasionally heated) debates in the past two polls, so I'm curious to see if anyone cares so strongly about clerics.

So since I have crippling crs, I decided to make a character via the generator thread. I rolled human beastmaster. I just... Yeah. So, I promised myself to beat BG2EE with whatever I got (have never made it far in at all). So, any tips, advice, etc. on playing a beastmaster effectively? On iPad, so mods are a no-go. Thanks to any and all replies!

How do you feel about Shar-Teel's weapon profs?

$

Overall, I think that the devs did a good job of transitioning from the broader weapon categories of BG1 to the more specific ones of BG2. But Shar-Teel's case is one that raises some questions and eyebrows, since the devs obviously decided to do a bit of experimenting with her.

Personally, I'm torn on what to think. On one hand, we now have a high strength NPC who can effectively wield the dagger of venom, and an evil (non-ranger) duel wielder. On the other hand, it could easily be argued that the points are too widely dispersed, and undermine the ability to give her extra "+"s in any one weapon, which is supposed to be one of the main advantages to a fighter.

If you don't like Shar-Teel's weapon profs, how would you have preferred to see them distributed?

EDIT: For the record, here is how Shar-Teel's profs are currently distributed.

+ long swords
+ daggers
++ dual wielding
with an added + in crossbows if you get her at a higher level.

In the original BG1, she started off with ++ each in large and small swords, with additional +s added to "missile weapons" at higher levels.
