BG world dynamics

I got to wondering some things about the world BG is based in over the years. I've always loved classic D&D, sword and shield and magic.

Some things in the world of Faerun (or at least the BG setting world) seemed out of place. I have not read many books based in the Forgotten Realms campaign though and wondering if anyone knew if some/all of these things exist in the world setting. Anyone want to take a stab at them?

1. The start dungeon has a series of humanoid sized tanks, similar to the healing tanks in Star wars that seem very Sci-Fi (at least to me). And above all that they are powered by energy cells.

2. The mechanical gyros, spinning wheels, sphere, contractions, ect. Like in the first level start dungeon, and the Temple of Talos and places like that.

3. The large multi-pipe lines traversing through the sewers and the shadow thief guild near Aran's room. I looked up the history of sewers and even in the 16th century we had only a primitive form of drainage, nothing like what you would see Athlatka has. http://greywateraction.org/content/history-sewers

Off handed question; Why was the start dungeon made so large? I heard that the developer said once if he had a go over of the production he probably would have downsized the dungeon to one level. We've got a genie crystal section, a library (I guess recreated either from the protagonists mind or from Irenicus's), and a whole section for dyrads, lab imps, and so even a ship and a workshop. Don't know why it was all there and who built it all and why.

Is the Cleric of Tyr really coming?

I've saw lots of elaborate files for this kit (code named OHTYR), and I was wondering if it is really coming in the next patch.

I haven't looked at BG:EE, I've found this in BG2:EE while looking the 2DAs to make a Sith kit.

Which NPC encounter do you find the funniest?

My own favorite isn't even really funny, but for some reason I couldn't stop laughing.

"Seated with me are Farluck the Fearless, Turpin the Roaring Ranger, and Nelik the Most Devious and Fiendish of Thieves! (We owe him money so he gets the good title...)"

I am interested in hearing your favorites, if you're interested in sharing them.

Come suggest some theme songs for each NPC!

For the music lovers out there!
What songs do you guys think would be fitting for each NPC? Share a tune that fits their character, their story or their attitude.

All suggestions welcome!

I'll begin with some:

Due t his marriage difficulties and his wife's name, I'll give Keldorn "Maria, Maria" by Santana. The pain in his voice when he says "Maria!" after his wife says "What if I don't love you anymore?" is just heartbreaking. Also, Manowar's "Heart of Steel" just describes his attitude toward evil perfectly for me

Dorn must have some kind of song about being badass and evil. The songs "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood would fit, but I'm a big metal fan, so I'll give him Iced Earth's "Pure Evil"
image

Eldoth just has to be an outlaw country song, so I either have to go with "Didn't Your Mama Tell ya 'bout Boys Like Me" by Montgomery Gentry or for a better song, Iron Maiden's "Running Free"

Skie would definitely be the Upper Middle Class spoiled girl who totally thinks she's cool for listening to rrap, so I'd have to give her some Kanye (the go-to artist for these people). She's also the totally non-metal sorority girl who constantly misuses Dio's horn sign while listening to Blink 182

Baldur's Gate is a rare game that is balanced so that it is possible, but very difficult, to play a no-reloads game through the entire saga. Tell us YOUR favorite play style.

Surviving the Black Pits 2 Ambush. (Insane Difficulty Solo)

Just completed TOB. Other than the bugs I really enjoyed the new NPCs and the new enhancements. Afterwards, I loaded up The Black Pits 2 to give it a try..... and you guessed it, the pre-made team got obliterated by the ambush. After I tried several times I gave up... Seems like there is no way to avoid the capture...

So I decided to import my charname from TOB to avenge them.. It's a Legit character with gears carried over from TOB.

Consider this video as to what might have happened if Winged and her gang decided to mess up with Charname instead.

So, I've gone down the Jaheira romance line, and I've reached near the end. But here's the weird thing.

I get the "Jaheira, about last night" dialogue, and she responds as if something bad happened. But nothing happened last night... T'is very strange. Anyone have any idea on what may be messing this up?

The Trickiest Thief Class v.2

Number seven now! Continuing my series of class polls, this time we see who the favorite thief is. As always, this is for personal preference, and not to say what is the strongest kit. That said, feel free to debate to your heart's content in the comments! Also, if any of you have a good enough memory, you may notice that the Bounty Hunter's "description" is different. The previous one I had was probably one of the worst in the whole poll series, so making a reference to one of the internet's many never-ending jokes was a better choice, I feel. Bonus points to anyone who can remember what the old one was! Mods aren't allowed to participate in the challenge. ;p

As I learn more from this forum, I realize how much about the game I didn't know about. There were items, strategies and spells that could have made my life a lot easier against various monsters. There were dialogue options I had never been given. Easter Eggs I never knew about. Etc, etc.

I was interested in seeing this kind of topic ever since my boy @Quartz‌ said that he never made Crom Faeyr. So I made this thread for us all to confess our Baldur's Gate sins. Come and admit that you never completed your stronghold, you've never even heard of Kangaxx, never killed Firkraag or are still dying to know where Hull misplaced his longsword.

I'll begin:

Confession: I have never done the Viconia romance.

Confession: I have never played a thief character.

Cernd Badfather

I want to share my funniest Cernd story here. I've no idea if this has happened to anyone else, but it was so funny I remember it to this day.

It all started when we returned to Athkathla for the first time with Cernd in the party. I didn't intend to keep him permanently, just use every NPC a little while to do their personal quests. So if you've done Cernd's quest before you know the drill: Cernd meets old friend, old friend rejects him, Cernd visits old house, random beggar there insults him, Cernd visits old maid, old maid refuse to talk to him, Cernd visits his wife's new husband, who has their baby - we kill him, Cernd leaves the party to take the baby to the Druid Grove and asks us to meet him there.

Only it didn't happen that way. For some reason once we killed the guy holding the baby hostage, Cernd left the party but dropped the baby on his way out! I'd wager some of you didn't even know that there was an item for Cernd's boy as he essentially leaves the party with it and it's at the Grove by the time you recruit him back. But because of some full inventories and key items getting juggled around, we were left with a little baby-shaped sprite on the floor of Deril's estate.

Naturally, we picked up the child, wondering how Cernd could've been so remiss as to leave his son lying there. Strangely when we got to the Druid Grove, Cernd acted like he'd dropped the child off at the Grove and everything was fine. So we carried on our journey, only with a little baby tagging along.

The time came, as it does in every Cernd user's life, when we had to let him go. We put the baby into his inventory and bid him a fond farewell, removing him from the party. But again, we were thwarted - he thrust the baby back into our pockets before beating a hasty retreat!

Undeterred, we followed the deadbeat dad back to the Druid Grove. Since any attempt to give him his firstborn would result in a frustrating game of hot potato, we did the only thing we could: placed the child at his feet and left. When we returned to tie up some loose ends months later, we found the baby was still lying there, only now it was raining. Cernd didn't seem to notice.

Did you know?

So this is just a thread for interesting things that people have picked up over the years. While most of the information has been freely available for some time, the game is big enough that you might find something you missed. If not, it's still fun to see just how much detail the developers put in.

Did you know that if you are playing an elf named Drizzt, and your reputation is under 12, Drizzt will attack you? Did you also know that if you kill the three mages guarding the skyship devices in Baldur's Gate, then Shandalar skips the 'asking' part of sending you to the Ice Island? Not surprising, given that they were his daughters. Guy is probably a bit angry at you.

F/I Robe of Archmagi vs Shied or Armor Spell

$

First off, I have come to the conclusion that there is no need to waste a slot on the Armor spell. Shield is vastly superior. Sure it doesn't last as long, but one or two will essentially last in each area. With travel times, moving between areas the Armor spell usually runs out anyways. Plus, there is the shield amulet.

With that said, I barely have enough for the Robe of the Archmagi. I headed to High Hedge to test it. I get one AC better with Shield. The robe is quite expensive. I guess the benefit is it frees up level spells for other spells?

How many stick with spells for armor vs the robe for their F/M?

Minsc's berserker rage special ability changed in EE? (spoiler for newbies)

$

I've got a roleplay-intensive game going in which I would like to RP Minsc using his berserker rage a lot, and then at times losing control and attacking anyone near to him. I just spent a while testing his special ability, and after numerous reloads not once did the circle under him turn yellow (IIRC that's the color for this, it's been a long time) such that he loses control. Did his special ability get modified by EE to remove the risk of him sometimes attacking allies and innocents during his berserker rage?
