Serpent in the Staglands

The Spectral Brand's Spectral Blades.

I was experimenting with the dancing weapons summoned by the Spectral Brand scimitar and I noticed that they are killed by True Seeing. I am not sure what to make of this. I am pretty sure that it is intended behavior but a small part of me wonders if this is a bug...

That aside I just wanted to see what other peoples' opinions on this were. It certainly makes the things pretty much useless on, well, most things; seeing as most things either spam cast True Seeing or have a friend that spam casts True Seeing.

"We're All Doomed" - a thread covering Blackraven's Charnames' attempts at No-Reload Trilogy runs :D

Hey folks, I've decided to just use a single thread, this one, to report on the progress I make with different Charnames in my SCS No-Reload playthroughs. So far they just keep on falling, in early SoA at the latest, which is why I think it sensible to use a single thread instead of starting one or two new ones every week.

Most of the time I play a heavily modded version of the game, still BGT rather than EE as there are a couple of non-EE mods that I'm quite attached to (such as Item Randomization, Hard Times, Song & Silence, aTweaks).

Some of my playthroughs are heavily role-played whereas others can be seen more as technical/tactical... experiments, and may be more metagamed, though I do generally stick to Charname's alignment and personality. Other rules I tend to apply is to not abuse resting (which makes playing a spellcaster a bit more challenging), to give all creatures in the game including Charname and party members full hitpoints at level up as I don't like the 'luck factor' there, and to play no-reload. I still have a few savegames of fallen Charnames and I often tell myself I'll pick those games up again, but somehow I always end up rolling a new Charname. I might be convinced though by readers to go minimal-reload if they think a character was particularly interesting to read about.

I'll post about my first new character and his exploits probably tomorrow.

Additional Spell Memorizatioin Items. Stackable?

Can items that add the ability to memorize additional spells be stacked? For example, could I wear an amulet that grants additional memorization of 1st, 2nd and 3rd spell slots and also gain additional 1st, 2nd and 3rd level spell slots from another item like a ring? On top of that could I use a third item like a sword that also grants more spell slots?

I know this will not work with armor class items. You can't wear two ring of protections for example and get twice the bonus. I just wanted to be sure before I commit pips toward Katana for Zerth Blade.

Another No-Reload Adventure !

Hello guys, today I'm starting a new solo no-reload playthrough but this time without SCS, firstly because I'm playing some multiplayer without it at the moment and secondly because I thought it would be nice to first finish the vanilla game on no-reload before challenging myself with SCS once again.

I give you Dariel Rivendil, a Half-Elf Neutral Good Fighter/Mage/Cleric who started with 2 pips in Slings and Morning Stars. I didn't think much about him RP-wise but I think you can picture Dariel as some Paladin/Mage multiclass, he considers himself a righteous person and he acts like a knight.

image

I chose this character for 3 reasons :

-I wanted to have fun ! And triple classes characters are by far my favorite, even if I often give more credit to the F/M/T than the F/M/C
-I wanted to play something original and I feel like the F/M/C is underplayed on this forum.
-I want to succeed, which means some sort of arcane magic, in my opinion of course.

The rules :

-No mod except a Simple xp cap remover.
-Insane difficulty.
-Max HP on level up.
-Solo

After doing all his chores in Candlekeep, Dariel spoke with his foster father. Gorion told him it was time to flee the citadel and that it would be better to travel as soon as possible, by night.

But even protected by the shadows, they were ambushed by an armored figure and his group of bandits. All powerful was Gorion's magic, it wasn't enough to save him as he told Dariel to escape ...

The next day, Dariel swore to take his revenge one day against this man who took his only family.

I just started vanilla BG2, and wanted to make a character. I tend to play with the first 80+ roll for my PC. But this one I got upon the very first roll (after stats re-assignment).

STR 18/99
DEX 17
CON 19
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA14

Total 92 with a 18/99. Jesus.

Number six in my class poll series, and this one's a doozy! Lots of options here. As always, this is for personal preference, and not to say what is the strongest kit. That said, feel free to debate to your heart's content in the comments! Unfortunately, there aren't enough poll options for me to add a "Just show me the results" option on this one, so you'll have to choose something else to see the results. Fortunately, with ten options, you're sure to find SOMETHING you like. Sorry for being late with this poll. (yet again) I'll try to get the next one out on time.

Chronic Restarting Detox Camp

Hi, my name's demented and I'm a chronic restarter. I wasn't always this way, I use to play games with only one character and saw it through to the end. There would be no roleplaying or multi-classing. Baldur's Gate changed that. Now I can barely get an hour in without restarting the game. There are just too many possibilities.

I might start with a monk who's devoted to justice. She eventually gets kicked out of her order for her actions and becomes a Kensai warrior who metes out her form of justice to those she sees as guilty. Then I'll think of a cleric/wizard who's determined to uncover the deepest secrets of magic, but eventually goes insane from his quest.

I've tried playing other video games but I just get bored. For Bhaal's sake I played Metal Gear Solid 4 for the first time yesterday and all I could think about was my wild mage Anansi. I need help.

I have three friends behind a slow internet connection and we are going to copy my install to their machines. They have each bought copies of the game.

Will the game prompt for the email/password when running for the first time after copying the install directory to their machines? or is this going to be more difficult.....

All you wanted to know about the “Adventure Y”

Now with BG2:EE released and we all know about Hexxat at last it’s time to anticipate something new.

So I think the discussion about the “Adventure Y” is going to be the next hit.

There’ve been several threads on this forum about this topic but I will try to gather EVERY piece of information and update it when something new is known. I hope @TvrtkoSvrdlar and others who started topics about the Adventure Y in the past excuse me ;)

A little bit of history first.

Tweets by Trent Oster, 12 May 2012

Adventure X is going to be standalone. Keep your ears peeled for Adventure Y, which is intimately linked to the Bhallspawn storyline

Adventure X is a side adventure, while Adventure Y is an optional storyline piece in the Bhallspawn series

Tweets by Sam Hulick and Trent Oster, 23 May 2012

SH: Listening to the #BGEE Adventure Y main theme on repeat while doing paperwork. Never has something so mundane felt so heroic & adventurous.

TO: I do the same. It can become a liability when the #bgee Adventure Y theme is going hard and you are trying to do contracts.

Later PhillipDaigle tweeted that the Adventure Y can be set at or near Boareskyr Bridge, accidentally the place where Cyric killed Bhaal.

Dee in November 2012 said (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/142403/#Comment_142403) the "Adventure Y" hasn't been finished yet, and will likely be released post-ship.

Here (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/369710/#Comment_369710) is said the Adventure Y has been confirmed for after BGE2:EE (release). This post (9 October 2013) is promoted by LiamEsler.

Basically there were no news at all after that.

All of a sudden PhillipDaigle here on the 30th of November 2013(http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/418768/#Comment_418768) said something that can be interpreted as:

1) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y is planned for after BG2:EE, or
2) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y in not going to be released in the next patch, or
3) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y is set after BG2:EE.

We know elminster (a Beta Tester) (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/346026/#Comment_346026) said the Adventure Y will cost money although in the past Tanthalas (also a Beta Tester, Private Beta Moderator) (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/14040/#Comment_14040) had thought about the Adventure Y as a part of the new content for EE and not a DLC.

So, we know the Adventure Y is tied with the Bhaalspawn plot and has its own theme.

Taking into account those words about money and realizing the Adventure Y has not been definitely released before BG2:EE it seems reasonable to agree with the 3rd variant and say the Adventure Y is set somewhere before the story of the Bhaalspawn ends.

Moreover, I think it’s safe to conclude from PhillipDaigle’s post the Adventure Y is meant to be content for BG:EE, not BG2:EE.

There’s an idea that the Adventure Y takes place after Sarevok's defeat and shreds some light on those “circumstances much darker than anyone would have thought” under which the Bhaalspawn left for Amn. So this adventure would probably take place between the two games and end with the Bhaalspawn getting captured by Irenicus.

It’s interesting to take into account that TrentOster - after looking (6 September 2013) at a feature request of an interlude chapter that narrates the happenings between Sarevok's ending and the capture of the Bhaalspawn by Irenicus - said “Sounds kind of adventurey. Could be a fun concept.” (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/350159/#Comment_350159)

One can interpret “adventurey” as “adventure y”.

So, right now it's everything from what has been confirmed.

bg questions

I have been playing both BG:EE and the BGII:EE and had some questions with regards to them.

In BG:EE I noticed a much nicer looking interface, and several new and imo better voice sets. And it may be my imagination but the sound and music seems separated into channels which feels more engaging to me. However in BG2 I never noticed any of this. No new interface, no new voice sets carrying over and the sound doesn't seem as dynamic.

I know a lot of the original art work was lost and I know about the court battles with Bioware, was it? I don't know much of the details and what they were trying to prevent. It's a shame BeamDog didn't secure the rights to Icewind Dale at the same time, though the story was not as deep the game had some nicer spell effects and other things that would have benefited the BG series to be even greater. But the game, other than widescreen and some new characters doesn't seem much different to me. In the original I never encountered any bugs or glitches so I notice nothing different there. Anyone know why some of these things never carried over?

Thanks

Going to try the ultimate challenge - BG2/SCS Solo No Reload...with a character of your choosing :p

Hi, long time BG player but new to these forums :).

I'm going to start a solo no-reload game of BG2 with a bunch of the popular mods, including Ascension, SCS and Item Randomiser. I will do a write up here with lots of pictures and silliness to entertain you. What I would like your help with is to choose what character I should play!

We're going to assume the protagonist has been through BG1 and will have appropriate XP. I won't actually be starting in BG1 because I played that game to death for years before starting BG2 and I can't bring myself to go back...sorry :(. I have classic BG2, not Enhanced Edition.

You don't need to worry about legal race / class / kit combinations because I have ToBex and Shadowkeeper and will happily use both to cobble together whatever character you want to see.

A quick pointer before the character template - this is solo no-reload with SCS: unless you want to see a very short playthrough, the PC needs to at least have a chance of survival! Item randomiser also means I have no idea where the great equipment is, so I can't rely on crutches like the Cloak or the Shield to overcome difficult challenges.

As part of this challenge, I will attempt to do every quest available to a solo character and explore every area. So the PC will need to fight the likes of beholders, liches, demi-liches etc. And preferably win. Difficulty will be core rules and will not be changed.

So here's the template for your suggestions. Whichever suggestion sounds like the whackiest / original / most fun wins ;).

Race:
Class:
Alignment:
STR:
DEX:
CON:
INT:
WIS:
CHA:

Weapon proficiencies:

Starting HPs (excluding CON):

In one or two sentences, how did this PC kill SCS-Sarevok? (Serious or comedy suggestions):

In one or two sentences, describe this PC's personality and outlook:

I look forward to your ideas!

Thanks

Reclassing npc's

Hi everyone. I've been playing the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series since they've come out and followed them since Bioware had little tombs of them on a bookshelf on their website to click on years ago.

I've partied up with everyone hero and villain in the, or near to it, and recently I made a party to incorporate all the new heroes. I love the voice work of the new heroes though I have trouble sometimes keeping Rasaad alive.

So I've put some thought into it and drew up my own 6 member party of self made heroes. Long as you can still do this I was going to do it through multi-player and save it over to my single player saves.

I'd rather reclass some npc's though, I did that years ago through Shadow Keeper. Problem was getting their stats correct, like their save vs throws, to be correct for their new class. If I take Mincs for example and give him 1 experience point and change him to level one cleric (for example) and adjust his save vs throw and stats, will he level up the same way a cleric would or would his programming only level him up like a ranger?

Thanks.

In honor of the World Cup: Who would be your Baldur's Gate NPC Starting XI?

So, World Cup is on my mind these days, as I'm sure it is on a lot of others.

So lets make a Baldur's Gate NPC starting XI!

We can do lots of things.
-One team with all joinable NPCs, one with all non-joinable.
-Good NPCs vs Bad NPCs
-BG1 NPCs vs BG2 NPCs
-All Elf XI vs All Dwarf XI?
-An all-shorty team?

Lets do this!

I'd like to humbly invite my dear friends and fellow enthusiasts @bengoshi@Dungeonnoob@Montresor_SP@Anduin@Blackraven@Qbert@element@Pibaro@Belteshazzar89@TheElf‌ to join in

I'd also like to troll two non-football fans for absolutely no reason @Metalloman‌ and @meagloth‌ . Let's also get @CrevsDaak‌ in here because he's Crevs.

Teach me how to trap

Confession: I have never used the Set Trap skill on a thief. Ever.

And yet, everywhere I go on these forums, I read all these cheese-tastic stories about how powerful traps can be!

So, people of Baldur's Gate, my fellow forumites, I ask you this:

How do I use traps? What, exactly, do they do? Ensnare? Damage? A combination of both? What's their range? How effective are they really? And have I been using Yoshimo all wrong by neglecting the Set Trap ability?? D:

Many thanks!

Priest of Lathander

How do you guys think this kit compares to a fighter/cleric dual or multi? I know those options will probably be more powerful in the long run but I feel like the kit might actually not be that far behind.

Am I right to think the Boon spell stacks so its possible to get 4 apr with a one hander or 5 with a dual? Basically lathander priest can buff up to 25 strength, catch an improved haste and get 10 apr. Is that right?

impact of game if changing ingame stats?

Greetings

I am new to BG and i have downloaded the BG2,EE for my mac and i can say i really like the game. Thing is that i have messed up a little bit my stats and i cant create a new character and start from the beginning.

I found out with some googling that there is a tool that can change your stats but since this is a cheat/hack i dont know if it has any negative impact to the game`s mechanisms.

Hence my question is:
IF i change my stats, will there be any problem with the mechanisms of the game? Will the skills/spells/flow of game e.t.c will get messed up?

Thanks

Rolling (Keepering) non-standard races... Advice please!

So, I'm planning to run Murdo, a Neutral Evil Dwarf Bounty Hunter.
Generally a mean cove, chasing an easy buck.

I'd like to keeper him to be a Duergar, to make him even more disreputable, but I'm unsure what changes to make to represent his race (other than the obvious cosmetic differences)...

(For instance, with a Drow, I'd raise innate magic resistance.)

Can any FR Loremasters advise me on how best to implement?

Feel free to discuss similar changes for other races too. :)
