Baldur's Gate and Multiplayer?

$

What is up with everyone and their need for Multiplayer with BGEE? This game has been out for over 15 years and it's never been that famous to play multiplayer. Not even back in the days with Gamespy a lot of people played it multiplayer.

Now i'm reading several threads with the following : I bought this game specifically to play multiplayer.

I can't help but to think that there are three logical reasons for this.

1.) People bought the wrong game.
2.) Beamdog somehow advertised this game as a multiplayer game or MMO.
3.) People though it was the new Diablo, like back in the days with BG1.

I personally HATE playing this game multiplayer because it annoys the hell out of me having other people pause my game and having to wait on them, then the whole resting for spells and where should we go. I don't want to go to Friendly Arm Inn, i want to go to Beregost! But we're stuck in the same zone?

Baldur's Gate has never and will never be a multiplayer game.

Is it possible to play it in Multiplayer? Yes.
Was it designed for Multiplayer? No.

So anyone else care to share their thoughts on this? Am i just odd?

Characters switching hands

One of the things that annoyed me most about BG2 was the characters in the games switching between being right handed and left handed depending on which direction they faced. Didn't BG:EE use the 1pp mod? And if so, (and I could be wrong here) did it not fix that issue back when it was made for TuTu/BGT/BG2?

Remove Wild Surges

Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to stop/remove/disable Neera's wild surges entirely, using EE Keeper or the CLUA Consoles? I tried changing her class to mage, but that doesn't seem to do it -- at least not in Wild Forest (but that might be area dependent?) Thanks! :)

Saved games gone after installing OS X Mavericks?

Today I updated my Mac operating system to OS X Mavericks. I just opened Baldur's Gate EE (w/latest patch) and went to load a game...blank list. Went to import a character...nothing but the premade characters that come with the game (does anyone play these?).

It does appear that these files are still on my computer when I open the Baldur's Gate folder under Docs. Why doesn't the game see them anymore?

powergaming party (BG2 TOB,NPC and multiplayer)

What is the most powergaming party that you can think of?

two different groups of posts
1) multiplayer created party by player. What classes/races (and items)
2) charname + npc's. What npc's
-this is not 1 vs 2 but creating 2 different threads for 1 purpose is silly
-bg2 tob exp limit
-no mods

and why is this the most powergaming?

for example
F/M/T half-elf - like kensai mage but +100dmg with backstab
Kensai13/Mage - i think everyone know why kensai/mage
cleric/specjalist mage - healer who is almost immortal
mage slayer13/mage - antimage
edwin - most spells

npc's
F/M/T op op
sarevok dualed to mage op
edwin - op op op
aerie - op multi
keldorn - op dispell
Cernd - SS f yeah

like you can see I prefer magic :)

The Ultimate HLA: "Plot Device"

This fiendish Major Artifact appears to be employed by so-called "Developers" (extra-planar beings that have supra-causal connections with the way reality unfolds) to forge the destiny of the Hero.

It is said the sage Gorion fell not under the blade of the Villain, but rather the extra-dimensional powers of... Plot Device.
[Everytime I start the game, I expect the Big G to maybe *win* this time around and walk with me to the Friendly Arm. Well, maybe next time...]

It is said that the Villain's exact moment of death is similarly shaped by this high level ability.
[What if you just killed Koveras at Candlekeep and the plot reformed itself anew around you afterward in chapter 5?...]

Let Sages of the Ages document the passing of this mysterious Device through our fold of space & time in the Planes.
[Every contributor bringing in a use of Plot Device will be given a plot-cookie. (*)]

(*) Consider this like that episode of Doctor Who with the absorbaloff ("Love & Monsters") where a bunch of enthusiasts try to determine the Doctor's intervening hand across time and space by collecting his known acts.

Cleric Snoozefest Playthrough

I was thinking about playing a class that I never have before, and thought about a cleric.

But aren't they boring and no use as a pure class? Viconia is just as useful as a protagonist cleric.

I was thinking maybe Priest of Helm, seeking sword is pretty good in BGEE. Was thinking Half Orc for fun.

If They Made a Baldur's Gate Movie: Redux, The Definitive Casting

Alright, alright, before you roll your eyes at me and sigh, this perennial discussion seems to have resurfaced over in 'Teh Meme' thread again, with some pretty good suggestions too, so rather than clog that thread up with OT stuff let's gather them all here. (Or of course we could summon Xzar to perform thread necromancy on about a dozen other similar threads!

I'll fire the opening salvo and throw George Clooney as a suggestion for casting as Keldorn Firecam, and the no-brainer of Joe Manganiello as Anomen.

Have at it!

Newbie question:
Can you edit an item's properties in EE Keeper? Lke user class restrictions, abilites, etc. From the item browser I can clearly extract items from the list ("saved in your override folder"), but what to do from there? Tips would be much appreciated. :)

1/. When leaving the house he/she says "I'm going to pester someone else" ... and has absolutely no idea why they said it.

2/. When playing a WW2 aerial combat sim you hear them screaming - "RAAASSSSSK!"

4/. He cheerfully volunteers "I''l do it" in a bright falsetto.

And yes ... my hubby has done all these things.

A "head canon" thread - how does the NPC come to life in your own imagination? (expect spoilers)

$

The NPCs all take life in our imaginations uniquely, and we develop our own personal vision of them.

One example for me is Faldorn, who I'm using now for only the second time in nearly 15 years of playing the game. Because she is charged by her order with the task of investigating the Iron Throne, and because of the True Neutral alignment required for druids which is supposed to be all about balance, I'm currently imagining her as a poised, coolly serene spy. And for this game I made her a whole lot better looking:

image

(She has a Charisma of 15, let's not forget.)

This conception is loosely inspired by Scarlet Johansson's portrayal of Black Widow in the Avengers.

Now, from the standpoint of her lines in the game, about all we get is that she's 1) rather terse, 2) totally devoted to the Oak Father, and 3) once or twice perhaps (if at all) she's apt to voice her contempt towards civilization, given that she is as a member of the Shadow Druid sect. She will get into it with Jaheira, a Harper who embraces civilization. But in my game Jaheira and Khalid left the party much earlier, and I don't expect their return.

And then of course in BG2 Faldorn is developed into more of a hardcore fanatic. So if we take that into account I guess I could have played her more as sort of a grunting, feral, stick figure of a Shadow Druid. But that doesn't seem like as much fun to me.

In my own current game she does have her radical sensibilities about civilization being a blight. But she is tasked with being a spy, essentially. So she does not wear her heart on her sleeve. She keeps her inner convictions under wraps. She is reserved in general, and definitely about her most heartfelt beliefs. And that is in the interest of being effective in completing her mission. I would say that is in accord with high Wisdom.

I felt it would be enjoyable to take some slight liberties with the character concept to make her a little more complex and spice up the game a little bit. I'd like to think that my concept of Faldorn for this game remains roughly within the vague framework the game gives us.

Anyway, that's just one example.

What are some of the ways that the NPCs for either BG1 or BG2 get more development in your own head as you play them?

How BG1 NPCs are treated in BG2 - huge spoilers

I noticed some venting about how BG1 NPCs end up in BG2 in several different threads recently, and for what it's worth I totally agree. Of course the joinable ones that you can continue adventuring with are developed well enough. But even there I think there is some dissatisfaction. It would be impossible to please everyone, though, of course. For both joinable and non-joinable reappearing adventurer NPCs.

My own brief takes:

Imoen - I guess I can live with her becoming more angst-ridden, and the murky metaphysical Bhaal essence soul stuff. But I personally liked her a whole lot better as a chipper pure Thief. And I know she duals well to Mage. I know. I still don't like her that way, i.e., as a spellcaster. I realize I'm probably in the minority there.

Minsc- Minsc I have no problem with in BG2. I know there's a lot of folks who feel his comedic relief schtick wears thin quickly. It kind of does for me too. But he is too endearing for me to go as far as disliking him. What endears him in BG1 isn't compromised in BG2.

Jaheira - I'm not a fan of romances in the BG series. So while she has a lot to offer in that regard, it's not a major draw for me. I guess her quest is pretty good (though I've rarely had her in the BG2 party and can't remember much about it anymore). Honestly, I liked her much better paired with Khalid, as it felt to me like their personalities sort of resonated with, and enhanced, one another.

Khalid - I know he has to die as a plot device for the Jaheira romance, but I actually liked Khalid a lot. I sort of missed him in BG2. I would have loved to see him develop into a Fighter-Mage with an additional tome or something (he was originally conceived as a F/M, I believe. He'd be multi-classed but same idea as if he'd dualed?)

Dynaheir - It bugs me a little that they killed her off. I guess it has to be in order to not have her paired with Minsc, though. I guess I can accept it.

Edwin - Original developers get the gold star here for developing him in BG2, as it is hilariously well done.

Viconia - I think they did okay here. Again, I'm no big fan of the romances, but hers is tolerable. Sort of like Edwin I think they wisely didn't veer much from what made her successful in BG1 and in fact developed it well.

Faldorn - Can't believe they made her an adversary (even making you kill her off). And a sort of fanatical crazed one at that. I would like to have seen her developed into more of a cool cucumber spy type. She is spying for her order in BG1, actually. Anyway, as a TN type of character I like to imagine her as much more poised and centered.

Garrick - At least they didn't do anything odd with him in BG2. If he can't be playable in BG2, that's fair enough. He's not the most popular NPC to begin with, so I didn't expect him to be playable. But I'm at least grateful that they didn't do anything jarring with his presence.

Coran and Safana - Possibly the biggest fail of all. Two of my favorite NPCs--and ones that I really don't see turning on the PC. If they had been evil, maybe. I suppose Safana has it in her as a CN character. But Coran? Nah.

Xzar and Monty - Okay, this is actually the biggest fail now that I think of it. What were they thinking?

Ajantis - I only recently learned that he makes a cameo in which he is doomed to die. (Or possibly if I knew it back when I had forgotten it.) I guess this does not trouble me too greatly. I liked him well enough, but it's okay with me that he doesn't reappear as joinable. We do have Keldorn and Anomen in BG2.

Quayle - I was never clear--is this supposed to be the same Quayle from BG1? He is totally incongruous with BG1 Quayle. This is a fail, although not a major one. It just doesn't feel anything like the character from BG1.

Tiax - Here they did alright. He's pretty funny in BG2, and very much still in character.

The Enhanced Edition NPCs I have yet to try in BG2, so I'll leave that to others to speak to.

Kensai Survival BG1

I am planning a BGT run through with one of my favorite classes a Kensai Druid. It was the first character I finished BG2 with many years ago and want to try it again. Problem is that I want to do a BGT run through and have no clue how to survive BG1 with a Kensai. No ranged weapons and no armor . . .

Tips? Advice?

Khalid Jaheira Xzar Monty Fight

$

While I have seen them duke it out before, I don't typically bring Khalid and Jaheira in my groups so I have not seen this epic battle in many years. I just started a new play through, using the NPC Project mod (which is still in beta but I haven't had any issues yet) and decide I'd like to experience this fight once again. I have a question though, since it has been a long long time since I witnessed the fight. What scripts do the characters use when they leave your party to engage in combat? Do they use the script that was set on them in your party or do they switch to their default script, or is it something else entirely?

I ask because I plan to keep whoever wins the fight in my team, and want it to be a fair battle. I typically have Xzar with no script since I like to direct his spells and attacks myself, and usually keep the other three in Standard Attack and adjust their actions accordingly. If I do this is Xzar going to just stand there while Monty has to fight both Khalid and Jaheira by himself? Is Jaheira not going to cast any spells and just fire sling bullets at Montaron the entire time? I want the fight to be epic and as fair as possible so any answer to this questin would be greatly appretiated.

BGEE or BG The Original Saga

I played the original BG back int day but was too pathetic to ever complete it. Mainly got it because I was into NWN and ting. When I heard about BGEE I got super interested and got it at launch and completed it as much as i could. Just got the original game again and I think I actually prefer the original to EE. Even though EE has a lot more ease of use and that, I dunno I just think the original has a lot of charm to it even though its a pain in the arse to use at times.

No idea why im making a topic about it. Im still glad EE exists or i probs would have never played the game again but still... I dunno. I just think the original archaic way was the best.
