What kind of dual classable character would you like to see in Shadows of Amn?

This is inspired by @Ravenslight 's poll on a thief mod NPC capable of dual classing. http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/32321/would-you-prefer-a-mod-npc-thief-to-be-able-to-dual-class-into-a-thief-mage-or-thief-fighter#latest

I personally think dual classing is pretty cool from a roleplaying and mechanical point of view, and kind of wish there were more options. I'd like a character that could go two different directions, but really any character with a dual classing option would be pretty sweet.

I'd like to see what others like, so here is my poll. Which character build would you like to see if there were to be a new NPC in the game that was capable of dual-classing?

Note: I'm generally avoiding spellcasting classes that can dual into a martial class, but feel free to discuss them!

The Flipside: Who is the most overrated NPC?

This is probably a more delicate topic than the "most underrated NPC" poll, so I want to point out this is not about popularity of an NPC, it's about their (percieved) cheesy-broken-overpowered status. This topic is meant to inspire discussion about the downsides of NPCs that are said to have none, compare them to their "weaker" class counterparts and maybe find new ideas for power parties and strategies involving the "b-listers".

Edwin is hands down my favorite BG2 NPC, but I also think he's pretty overrated. Extra spells don't mean that much in a game with tons of wands and scrolls. Like I said - popularity isn't the subject here and I hope no-one will take it personal if their favorite companion makes the list or is critized.

Quick breakdown why I put these NPCs on the list:

Edwin - frequently called overpowered due to more spell slots from his amulet
Keldorn - often listed as a "must have" due to his Dispel Magic/class
Imoen - highest roll among the NPCs, considered a "must have" by many
Haer'Dalis - often called overpowered due to kit, especially in HLA territory
Minsc - considered a "must have" by many, for reasons that are beyond me
Viconia - considered a "must have" due to her magic resistance, even by non-evil parties
Baeloth - said to rival, if not surpass Edwin in spellpower due to extra casts
Dorn- seen as overpowered due to the illegal race/class combo
Jan - not sure he's a "must have" because he's Jan or because he was the only progressing thief
someone else - I considered adding Anomen, Aerie, Neera and Jaheira due to their power and class (combo), but all seem to have fairly balanced love/hate fronts and are generally seen as "appropriately powerful", not "borderline OP" or ouright cheesy. Feel free to vote for them or any other NPC anyway.

Which of these three Bhaalspawns hold the most endgame potential?

Which of these Bhaalspawns hold the most potential in terms of power (playing all the way through the saga)? I know they are all excellent but I cannot decide which one I should first commit to playing. Note: They are all brand new and I haven't yet used any ability tomes.

Odion, my Half-Elf Dragon Disciple Sorcerer (I chose Half-Elf for the extra constitution which I hope to eventually get to 21 for the regen):

Ekklezius, my Elven Talos Priest:

Finrod, my Elven Archer (I will eventually get him the Gauntless of Archery as well as add the boots of speed and eventually add 2 extra DEX):

I think I read somewhere that flails are blunt and piercing damage at the same time? Is crushing damage the same thing as blunt damage?

No Fog of War Left Behind ... and other compulsive behavior

How do YOU play? With what fixations?

I fear that I am a completionist even in my umpteenth run through the game:
I uncover every corner of the map from the Fog of War;
I touch the four map edges as if it is a religious necessity to reveal neighboring regions in BG, even when I know that those regions are already unlocked;

... and then that very worst of compulsions: if I die, I delete my save and go back to character creation.

What are your compulsions?
(And why *this* game? So many CRPGS have come out in the last two decades; so, why be compulsive about this one?)

Did you know?

So this is just a thread for interesting things that people have picked up over the years. While most of the information has been freely available for some time, the game is big enough that you might find something you missed. If not, it's still fun to see just how much detail the developers put in.

Did you know that if you are playing an elf named Drizzt, and your reputation is under 12, Drizzt will attack you? Did you also know that if you kill the three mages guarding the skyship devices in Baldur's Gate, then Shandalar skips the 'asking' part of sending you to the Ice Island? Not surprising, given that they were his daughters. Guy is probably a bit angry at you.

Should Certain Summons or Creatures Reveal the Fog of War?

I remember altering my familiar (from item) with an editor to do this back in the day (I think I either changed it from a summon creature to a player character - which also allowed it to move from one area to another with the party, or gave it an equipable item that replicated the wizard spell. So though I'd put this up for discussion - like what are the PnP rules for a simulcrum?.

Thinking about doing a Playthrough of BG2:EE on my fledgling 'Tube channel, some questions.

So guys, like the topic reads, I'm thinking about doing a series on Baldurs Gate 2 a run through all the way to Mellisan (sp). However I'd like your input on a few things:

Episode Length: Ideally I don't really want to do any editing and just play the dang game, no dubstep comedy moments. I'm thinking 20 minute episodes with live commentary as I play.

Do you think I should do the first dungeon off screen? I know it's a big of a slog and at times even off putting into getting into the main game.

I know I probably won't get much hits for putting it up on YouTube but gaming and recording is how I play games now I'm not particularly interested in the e-fame otherwise I'd be making minecraft montages or something equally as ridiculous.

Interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Comparing BG to Pillars of Eternity

I've only recently heard of the ongoing development of the "Pillars of Eternity" project. I read that it is supposed to be the "spiritual successor" to games like BG, IWD, and so on. Has anyone been closely following the development of PofE, and if so, how do you think it will compare to these classics?

I for one never particularly wanted a BG3; I thought BG2 wrapped up things nicely, even if TOB was a bit over-the-top for me. But I always wanted another game like BG and BG2, something along the same lines in the same world with a different story, particularly including similarly colorful NPCs, beautiful art/backgrounds, tactical gameplay, isometric view, etc. (the IWD games were a little too combat-centered and linear for my taste, but of course I played them as well).

changed Jan to Fig/illus/thief

I read that changing Jan through modding to a fighter/mage/thief made him very powerful. But seems Jan can't use his gear once the fighter class aspect comes in. Is it worth it?

importing into BG2:EE

Can someone point me to a proper guide on how to import into bg2ee? I don't remember it being THIS freaking hard with vanilla and now i can't even find my final save(yes yes i shoulda backed it up) even though i created a new file in BG2, called it save and physically moved the final save in there hoping to simply import from my save game....it's gone. Next I pulled my player name .chr file and no matter how many times i try, it won't let me deposit it into the bg2 char file. Instead it dumps it later on the list and again i can't use it. I did a few searches and found nothing i haven't already tried and the problem with searching is finding the proper way to phrase it so you don't get 100 pages of crap. I feel old enough as it is without this nonsense, as i said, I've never had so much trouble with this or even adding mods to other games. I'm either just having a bad day or a major brain cramp. please and thank you *sigh*

Best defensive character class for a non-metagamed run through the entire trilogy?

$

Hi everyone. @Ygramul's comment on a post of mine a few days back, that he only does SCS no-reload and non-metagamed playthroughs these days, which is generally my approach to the game as well, had me thinking:

Which solo character would be the strongest defensively throughout the trilogy? I'm saying solo character since in a full party even a commoner charname or a Loser @meagloth-style could make it.

Mind you that to me no-metagaming means no prebuffing (except for long lasting spells such as Armor, Stoneskin, Iron Skins) unless enemies have been properly scouted. This is might rule out Sorcerers as the best defensive characters I think, if we take into account into account traps and ambushes (even though ambushes might be scouted with invisibility). To those who insist that Sorcerer would be the way to go, I'd ask what character they'd consider second best, as I don't really want to play a Sorcerer.

If editing a kit into a multiclass is allowed, I'm inclined to go for Dwarven (or Halfling) Warrior/Priest, where the fighter class could be e.g. Dwarven Defender, Berserker, or Barbarian. You'll have great hitpoints and saves, and depending on the warrior class good defenses against status effects or damage resistances.
I was thinking of the Barbarian/Druid I rolled a while back, and realized that an evil Barbarian/Cleric with Human Flesh, Cloak of Balduran (which returns in my game in BG2), and other MR raising items, and the physical resistances of the Barrbarian, Hardiness HLA and Defender of Easthaven could be very difficult to kill.

Looking forward to your views.

The new stat total

$

Well done on the new update, lots of fixes, but I don't agree with adding a stat point total for when rolling characters. I know that most people roll until they get good or even mega stats but adding a total just makes it too easy and takes the accomplishment out of sitting there for an extended period to get a good roll (this sounds sad but at least you feel like you have in a way earned those high stats)

Am I alone in thinking this or do people agree?

Class based quests in multiplayer

So, I've been thinking about this for a while, but I have been without a computer for some time so I have yet to be able to try it out.

Would it be possible to Start a multiplayer game, and then switch the main character's class before doing all of the stronghold quests and end up with all the strongholds?
I'd really like to test it out myself, but I can't for the next foreseeable future, so I was wondering if anyone here had tried or knew if this was possible? :)

Two Strongholds

I am playing a Ned Stark-like Cavalier and want both the radiant heart and D'Arnise keep as strongholds. Any way to do this using shadowkeeper?

I had previously posted this in the BG2 forum but haven't gotten much help. Hoping it works better over here.

The Most Devastating Druid Class

Halfway through my poll series already! This time it's the druids up for grabs, so who's your favorite? As always, this is for personal preference, and not to say what is the strongest kit. (the title's just for mild alliteration) That said, feel free to debate to your heart's content in the comments! I'm sure some of you will be happy to see that I did NOT repeat my blunder from last week, and the "Just show me the results" option IS here. Hopefully the mistake will not be made again.
