Loving the responses so far.

Is Killing Drizzt Do'Urden as a Ranger "Evil?"

$

I suppose the main question comes down to asking whether or not a Ranger killing a Ranger is wrong, but I always looked for justification for killing Drizzt. Obviously, he carries very strong weapons and armour, however I do not believe that would be a realistic reason for a Chaotic Good Ranger and friends to kill Drizzt.

Indiscriminate killing goes against the Ranger honor system (AD&D ED 1 rules), although what is the chance that the protagonist would know Drizzt was not an evil Drow?

If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them!

Does the thief's "Detect Illusion" do anything?

I'm confused over this. I put 160 points into this skill by the end of ToB and I never saw it come up even once. I once saw an enemy thief get an "attempts to detect illusion" over their head, but does it work for your character? Do you have to press the detect traps button?

Ever Played With An Opposite Gender Voice Set?

I've always thought it was interesting how you could choose the voice sets for the opposite gender, especially considering you can't choose opposite portraits, but I've never actually done this. (though I'm considering making an effeminate elf. I know. Stereotypes.)

So my question for you all is have you ever played a male with a female voice or vice versa? If so, why? Accidental click? Role-play? Didn't like the male voice sets?

Becoming the ULTIMATE cheater demigod 10at/round etcetera ipad

Hello there!

WARNING: if you got an allergy on game cheating, play on insane difficulty with 70-stat rolled MC bard solo, then this is not for you!

Also - sorry for my bad English, not a native speaker.

After playing a few times fairly I finally became bored, SO, being quite an experienced bg cheater, I started refreshing my old memories on using this useful little program called "Near infinity"

If anyone wants to:

-have 10 attacks per round

-have 777% movement speed

-get 1000% more experience from quests and kills

-cast a dozen of spells per round instead of 1 (better than the E guy)

-use thieving skills in full plate

-become immune to timestop/level drain/etc

-have negative saving throws on level 1

-use carsomyr on your chaotic evil dwarf druid

I can help you with that.

:)

Although I don't remember some stuff (e.g. sticking a permanent effect on your char that casts aura cleanse every 6-10 secs on your group - not that it's really that important to have fun :D )

What you need:

1). BGEE of course - iPad one AND PC version of BGEE or bg2 (I'm using my old BWP setup actually ;) )

2). Near infinity (google it guys) - dont forget to read the requirements!

3). iFunbox to copy char file from your iPad back and forth

4). Some basic PC using skills - you know, like copy/paste and stuff

Yeah-yeah, I know, it's too boring and, if I were you, I would be lazy too to google how to on "copy/paste and stuff"

so right now I just gonna carry my lazy butt to my pc and make a second post with attachment - my LG inquisitor that has 1200% to XP, permanent Improved Haste, +35dmg on melee/ranged attacks, etc - have fun) Just copy it to your bgee/library/characters using iFunbox - don't forget to start a game this way: new game, create, import. DO NOT start choosing him from the first menu - this way you won't get HP bonus.

If you want, I can also post my other chars - F/M/T guy with similar stats, evil sorceress that can cast spells without pauses and has 777-bonus wiz spells to each spl level, or I can help you to create your own one.

I would also recommend you to remove xp cap - it's an annoying obstacle on your way to "demigodship", your archenemy, the first one who you need to crush!

P.S. What I really love about BG is the fact that you may become ridiculously OP, especially high-level sorcerer/mage - stop the time, make ppl obey your commands, sending them god-knows-where forever with one word.

By creating this topic, I just wanna prove that cheating in BG can be extremely FUN IF you know how to use more advanced way instead of your olde shadow keeper thingie

When do the levels for Dorn or other new companions get set?

So I spoke to Dorn at FAI then had his encounter in Nashkel but told him maybe later to join? Is his level now set or will it be set the first time I let him join based on my level at that time?

(My guess is it's already set but one can always hope LOL)

Is the level for a companion set the first time you speak to them in BGEE? - or the first time you come within sight? I was thinking in Vanilla it was when you first spoke.

Where is the Defender +5 scimitar

Hi guys. I just came back from the underdark and encountered Drizzt on the way to the teeth pass. However I cant find the +5 scimitar. I looted two scimitars, twinkle and icedeath, which are both +3. Is Defender +5 sill there in BG2EE?

A few questions about SCS with BGEE

$

Ok installed SCS the other day for BGEE - first time I have ever used it - installed most components altho in places where I had a choice between a little more difficult and a lot more difficult I went with the lesser option - (like enemy mages prebuffing only if/when they can see me - vs always prebuffing)

I noticed the mod seems to effect my saved games from before I installed it also which leads me to my first question.

1)Regarding placement of companion NPCs (to make them easier to recruit earlier) - will these NPCs always show up in the same (new) place or will their placement be more random (changing from one play-through to another)?

2) along the same lines - choosing to move the bounty hunters - will these be placed more or less randomly now or in specific new places? (I suspect random between several specific choices perhaps)

3) The option to replace some of the current +1 weapons with "fine weapons" - I'm guessing these "fine weapons" will NOT hit enemies requiring magic weapons to hit?

That's all for now I guess altho I suspect there will be more as I explore the modded game.

(moved from BGEE to general)

auto pause on aura clean

$

Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a way to have the game auto pause when a caster's aura becomes clean -- that is immediately when s/he is able to cast again. It seems like the options 'When Round Ends' and 'When Spell Cast' don't seem do do what I'm wanting, because if I go into a fight and immediately cast a magic missile, then somehow I get a round end right away and still have ~6 more seconds before I can begin casting something else. I tend to want to do something (like run away/sling a bullet...) during those 5-6 seconds, then change action to beginning a new cast immediately upon being able to actually begin the next casting process. Is there a way to do this that I'm just completely missing?

Thanks for the help!

If you were a character in Baldur's Gate....

What would your race/alignment/stats be? This is inspired by @SharGuidesMyHand 's thread regarding ability scores, where some people mentioned taking a quiz that told them what their D&D ability scores would be based on their real-life abilities.

I took a similar test but found that (in my mind) it severely inflated my ability scores. Of course this would be a heroic version of myself, but still...So I used the categorization of INT scores from the AD&D 2nd Edition Player's Handbook as a reference point to try to score myself somewhat more realistically. I came up with the following scale. Feel free to discuss/disagree with my examples:

3-4 Well below average (the STR & CON of a terminally ill person, the WIS of a 2 year old)
5-7 Below average (the STR of a 60-year-old woman, the DEX of a person with an injured limb)
8-10 Average
11-12 Above average
13-14 Well above average
15-16 Exceptional (with little effort, can do things relevant to the ability that most people find very difficult or impossible--e.g. the CON of an ultra-long-distance runner)
17-18 (18/00 for STR) (a paragon, approaching or at the limits of human ability--the STR/DEX of a record-breaking Olympic gold medalist, the INT of a Nobel Prize winner, or the CHA of a powerful cult/religious leader)
19 -- Beyond what a human could achieve without some supernatural intervention.

So, based on that, here is my Baldur's Gate doppelgänger.

***Race***

Half Elf (OK, obviously I'm human. I chose this because I'm mixed race.)

***Class***
Wizard. (INT is my best ability score, and the wizard is the closest thing to a professional academic in D&D.)

***Alignment***
Neutral Good (I go out of my way to be helpful and generous. I don't make a concerted effort to flout authority, but I'll break rules if I feel have to.)

***Ability scores***

STR 9 - My upper-body strength is definitely below average but my lower-body strength is above average (I have some absurdly strong legs). I suppose it sort of evens out.

DEX 12 - I can appear to be somewhat clumsy, but this is due to me being spaced out (see WIS). I consider myself above average in terms of agility. I am proficient at many styles of dance (ballet, tap, salsa, modern, jazz, hip hop....), did martial arts for a few years, can pull off minor slight of hand, have good reflexes, and have excellent fine motor skills (I'm fast at typing and can draw quite well).

INT 16 - I consider myself very intelligent. I speak many languages, have always gotten perfect grades (even in things outside of my main field of study), have a very high IQ, and will soon have an advanced degree in a scientific field. However, I am not a genius, which is what 17-18 INT means. Since 18 is the upper limit of human intelligence, I would reserve 18 for the most brilliant minds in human history. Someone with 17 intelligence, I would see as being among the brightest of their generation. So...perhaps even 16 is a bit on the arrogant side, but oh well. I'll just say my low WIS is holding me back from true greatness. ;)

CON 12 - I don't get sick easily (haven't had a cold in 2 years), can run for over an hour without stopping, can sprint up several flights of stairs without being winded, and have a good pain tolerance (which I unfortunately know from experience).

WIS 7 - I'm not rating myself low because I'm gullible or naive. I'm neither. But I am extremely spaced out and forgetful and have terrible willpower. Fortunately being smart, lucky, and likable usually helps me get out of the idiotic situations I get myself into or I would be royally screwed.

CHA 13 - I make friends very easily and people just really seem to like me. I'm fairly introverted but am nonetheless a good performer and storyteller and can easily make people laugh. I'm good at resolving conflicts and getting others to agree with me, or at least accept my point of view. When there's some discord among friends or acquaintences, I'm often the neutral party who others come to for advice (or to b**** about the other person).

So, what would your Baldur's Gate self be like?

Best Thief class to solo with

Title pretty much covers it, I want to solo my way through the trilogy with a sneaky guy, but I'm concerned about the fact that once they hit ToB, there's a load of backstabbing-immune creatures making them largely redundant leaving you with a rubbish THAC0. Suggestions please!

Adul's BG Adventures

This is a playthrough that I started last year which I'm picking up again. I roleplay a sorcerer with the canon party and document my adventures through a written diary and screenshots. I use the excellent BG1 NPC Project mod to add some flavor. I started playing the game in BGT, but since the last episode I'm now playing it in BG:EE. My English is not that great, so be prepared for some cringeworthy grammar.

I plan to play this to the end of ToB, and I'll be posting new episodes every week to every two weeks, as my spare time permits. I'll announce new episodes in this topic.

Durlag's Tower

Community Contribution open/closed

Hi I'm just curious of the official stance of contributions from the BG's amazing community over the past 13 years. Are mod projects like Unfinished Business and NPC project open for assimilation? Is there a lobby for this? Or is there a general ruling to the contrary?

I've noticed some works assimilated by BG:EE - what is the criteria? While I understand being geared towards fixpacks and the like, some fixes required some imagination... and some creative fixes actually had people from the original project involved. Where is the line? What is the line? How do we lobby, if at all we can?

Awesome!

Berserker/Druid. I have only 1 spare * to spend. What should i pick up? SLINGS or DARTS? And why?

I cannot decide which one to pick. Please help? Which one is better for endgame? The +5 sling that can create +5 bullets? Or the numerous, fast, tricky darts, like the one found in ToB?

The castle quests for fighter

Hi guys. I have a fighter character and are doing the castle quests after becoming the lord. But now it seems my quest can't continue. I have finished the step of the priest asking for a place. But after that, I cant trigger the next quest, and I am already in chapter 6 now. Is there something wrong?

Does time stop stack with shadowstep?

Wanna make a Shadowdancer/Mage. I want to konw, if I cast time stop when I far away from enemies, then use shadowstep to run into enemies, so does time stop stack with shadowstep?
I think it's a a waste of time to walk to enemies in time stop, so can I use shadowstep to save time? (Then when time stop is over, use shadowstep again to leave enemies, it looks very fun :)

Neera Wild Surge Cow (seemingly) aggroed entire map

Was in the area north of lighthouse/south of Candlekeep doing Shoal the Nereid. Magic Missile with both PC and Neera when Neera Wild Surged a Cow. Finished the fight fine, however, on continued exploration, it seems like we aggroed entire map (including The Surgeon & Mad Arcand who we lost 7 rep from upon death). What on earth happened here? Did we aggro the entire map with this or did we just find a crazy glitch?

Solo Sorcerer...OMG

This is not breaking news and I'm not providing any new content.

Just, good god how much they roll through the game. I've soloed BG1 before (thief/mage), but never BG2. I'm almost through SoA and I've never had an easier playthrough. The only really tough spot (so far) was the Duchal Palace fight. However, I've never played ToB before, so I'm sure that will be quite challenging.

The fact that the cap for SoA isn't there just completely breaks the game. But...I'm quite enjoying it nonetheless :D

I am exacting my revenge for all my previous games one jackstomped Elder Orb/Lich/Mind Flayer at a time

Custom PC & NPC Portraits

Building on the original thread, started by @Syntia13, this is intended to be a hub to share alternate, fan-made portraits for the enhanced editions of the series. In order to keep the thread running and make it a comprehensive source for portraits, please abide by the site rules and a few guidelines:

Thread Rules

1: Respect artists' creations and their right to them. If portrait-makers ask that you not edit their work, don't. If a mistake is made, simply edit your post to remove the image, apologize, forgive and forget.
2: Do not share images for which you have not received permission from the artists, when possible.* This is particularly true of art from DeviantArt, which hosts many artists who do not want their work shared elsewhere.
3: If you request that a portrait be made, recognize that the artists in this forum do this simply because they enjoy contributing to the community. Be patient, be respectful and say thank you.
4: Be supportive! Many of the artists here are just beginning to learn how to make portraits. Be positive and constructive in your comments, and avoid pointless negativity.
5: If you are making and posting portraits, state who you used as a model (if applicable), either here or on your website. Understand that this still does not make the likeness your property, and be prepared to remove the image if so requested by the copyright holder.

*Understandably, the source of some older portraits is unknown. If in doubt, go to Google Images and drag the portrait to the search bar. You may find the artist or source through that method. Again refer to Rule 1.

Guide to Using Custom Portraits

Portraits in the enhanced editions use three images in bitmap (.bmp) format, the largest of which is only shown during the epilogue in Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. The three sizes are 210x330, 169x266 (displayed in the character sheet) and 54x84 (displayed on the right UI bar).*

To use custom portraits for your PC:
1: Navigate to your Baldur's Gate directory in (My) Documents.
2: Drop the custom portraits into the Portraits folder.
3: In the game, select Custom when choosing a portrait and select the medium and small sizes. Alternately, if you have already begun your game, select Customize/Appearance from the character sheet.

To use custom portraits for NPCs:
1: Rename the portrait files to match the NPC whose portraits you want to replace. For example, Jaheira's portraits are named JaheiraL, JaheiraM and JaheiraS. There are some portraits in BG1 that do not conform to this, and those in BG2 have their own naming format. Consult this site.
2: Place the portraits in your override folder, located in the directory where you installed the game.

*Note that after the latest patch, the games allow a single large portrait size to be automatically adjusted to the proper sizes. I currently do not recommend this, as it causes pixelation in the small 54x84 version.

If you like the portraits you see here or at any of the sites below, leave a comment here or on the artist's website. We love making portraits, and we love hearing how you connect to them through the game.
