Could we get some updates beside what's going on with Android ?

Heya !

While anyone passing by the BGEE/BG2:EE bug forums will indeed see that your team is actively working on bug correction, could we get some input regarding what's coming up for BG:EE/BG2:EE in a forseeable future ?

What's the expected timeframe for the beta/release availability of the next BG:EE patch ?
What's the expected timeframe for the beta/release availability of the next BG2:EE patch ?
What's the expected timeframe for Adventure Y ? When can we expect to finally get some additional information about it's scope ?
Anything else in the works ? Additional sound packages ? Additional portrait packages ?

It's been quite some time since we had an update, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that would love to get some updates regarding these topics.

Cheers, and keep up with the good work guys ! :)

Monk attacks

Something I hadn't noticed, when a monk attacks with a weapon they are proficient with, they get bonus attacks like fighters. eg. 7th level monk gets 3/2 attacks with a shortsword.
Was this an update? I don't remember this in the original BG2 (mind you didn't play monk very often and it didn't have Rassad)

Accelerating NPC chats via EEKeeper?

Is it possible to speed up or prompt the chats amongst the NPCs using EEKeeper?

I'm worried that I may get through ToB without seeing all of them.

In my party: PC (half-elf blade), Neera (romancing), Valygar, Mazzy, Imoen, and Rasaad.

I haven't seen any chats between Neera and Valygar yet, which is surprising.

Solo No-reload feedback

Hi all,
I am currently doing 2 solo no-reload playthrough and I felt like sharing my experience.

The point is not to do only the critical path but to play normally (doing most quests) while also trying to avoid cheese. Heavy metagaming is obviously needed though.

Main rule in solo no-reload : never roll a saving throw. If you rely on rolling saving throws, you WILL get unlucky and you WILL die (even if you have negative throws everywhere). To avoid that you have to plan accordingly (spells, potions, disrupting casters,…) If you roll a saving throw, you made a mistake. Important items : greenstone amulet, boots of speed.

Run 1 : solo sorcerer.

BG1 : Get to level 6 by killing basilisks (east of temple + durlag tower) = no risk. Then play the game normally using invisibility all the time to scout safely. Battles are won easily by using web+MMM

BG2 :
- Level 9-14. Start with the easy quests involving little/easy fighting (circus, copper coronet, free market, thieves guild, umar hills). Basic tactic is still web + MMM + spiderspawn (or animate dead). This will be enough for 90% of the encounters. Spell immunity is mandatory for nasty traps and nasty mages.
- Level 15-16 : I used some cheese for shangalar (skull trap at beholder spawn, protection from undead scroll) and then killed the liches (dispel from staff of the magi + MMM, while protected by spell immunity) and kangaax (MMM + protection from undead scroll) to get his ring.

I am now level 16 in the asylum, fully equipped (staff of the magi, robe of vecna, boots of speed, ring of gaax). Getting there was really funny but I am not sure I will continue much more since I am now basically invincible. Level 9 spells will just make things worse

The most difficult fights were all linked with mobs that see through invisibility (Demon in astral prison, Torgal, bridge district assassins) and are better avoided until level 14-15.

Run 2 : solo assassin

BG 1 : ultra-easy. As usual get some xp with basilisks and then you can walk through the game using poison weapon (totally OP in BG1). Poison weapon + detonation arrow is just silly.

BG2 :
Much more difficult than the sorcerer : any group is potentially dangerous if attacked without proper preparation.
The problem is that very bad AC + no helmet means you can die VERY quickly against physical attackers (fighters, golems, troll,…). Therefore direct combat MUST be avoided. Potions of speed and kiting with tuigan bow while using poison weapon is the safest way I have found. I expect that problem to be there for the whole game.

Traps are a very powerful tool, even without using pre-fight cheese.

Magic users are not much of a problem since poison weapon bypasses most protection and prevents them from casting. Traps are easily disarmed.

I am not very far in that run having done only the early quests (circus, copper coronet, harpers, bridge district) + trademeet and the thieves guild quest. Now level 15.
Next stop will probably be watchers keep (ninjato +4, dart +3) and astral prison (boots of speed).

From there I expect no real difficulty in SOA. But I think that TOB will be challenging and will be possible only through extensive use of mage scrolls (stoneskin, PFMW, …) to protect against physical attacks.

On a final note, for my next run I am considering using an inquisitor (carsomyr, mage killer, summon deva) or a blade (almost a FM). Do you have any other good ideas (avoiding multi/dual since they are too powerful)?

Baldur's Gate Lego

Hi Friends,

I had some custom Baldur's Gate Lego minifigs created by Saber Scorpion. They were handed out last night at the Beamdog christmas party, check them out:

image
Jan, Viconia, Minsc (and Boo), Korgan, Yoshimo, Edwin

image
Neera, Baeloth, Hexxat, Dorn, Rasaad

image
Sarevok, Melissan, Irenicus, Bodhi

Unfortunately these aren't a retail product that you can purchase, but Saber Scorpion does all manner of custom minifig orders if you've just got to have a Lego-Minsc of your own.

Hacker question: Is there a way to PREVENT an NPC from appearing?

This is a continuation of some questions I raised in this thread here: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/28968/using-ee-keeper-to-use-your-favorite-bg1ee-npc-party-in-bg2ee

...I didn't want to derail someone else's thread, and I was hoping to get some more feedback on this issue.

I'm toying with the idea of importing some of my BG1 party members into BG2 (the way the TS describes in the other thread). My issue here is that Minsc was killed in my BG1 playthrough, but I've continued on with Dynaheir and intend to import her into BG2 - so I don't want Minsc in my BG2 party (especially if he's going to talk about how Dynaheir is dead, LOL), and I would prefer not to even see him in his cell at the start of the game.

I know as KidCarnival suggested, I can just pretend not to see him and avoid walking too closely to the cell, to avoid triggering any dialogue. However, I was hoping there would be a way that I could prevent his character from even being present in his cell in the first place - say, by deleting a character file somewhere. However, I'm also afraid that something like this will cause the game to crash, if it loads the opening video sequence and then searches for a char file that isn't there.

Any knowledgeable hackers out there have any advice for someone who's hack-illiterate?

What is the backstory behind your main character's name?

My PC is called Tethoril. Originally, it was just out of laziness and Tethtoril sounded like such a good name when I first played through the game. So I roleplayed that Tethtoril was actually one of my PC's main tutors, with Gorion and so on, and therefore Gorion named my PC after him.

But then I started writing a fanfiction and decided to embelish this a little more to make it more believable. Tethtoril actually had a son roughly 40-50 years before the events of the Baldur's Gate series, called Tethoril (similar in the Tolkien fashion of having bloodlines with similar names, such as Theoden, Theodred, Eowyn, Eomer and so on). This child died in a series of events, again made up to introduce the reader more to Gorion and Tethtoril (as there's not too much that you find out about them so early on, which is a shame as they're very interesting characters in lore).

I created the event that the book we see within the whole Bhaalspawn saga is actually a book with notes on where the Bhaalyns operate, as they are very secretive. So I had Gorion, Tethtoril and his son, Tethoril, hunting down some Bhaalyns within Netherese ruins in the Anauroch Desert (solely because I love the Netheril). During this escapade, they awaken an ancient Netherese lich. The lich then kills Tethoril before he can escape, but Gorion and Tethtoril manage to get the book.

After these events (around 1348DR) I had Gorion name his ward after Tethoril, son of Tethtoril, to honour his memory. There are some poetic elements in there too which are great to write about.

But, how did you decide upon the name for your main character(s)?

(I hope Gorion wasn't just a lazy sod and looked through a Candlekeep list of baby names XD)

What Does Wis and Cha do for a Paladin?

Or... more specifically, a Cavalier.

I planned to create a Cavalier with the following stats:
Str: 17
Dex: 12
Con: 17
Int: 10
Wis: 12
Cha: 14

Clearly non-optimal stats for RP reasons. I just realised Paladins have min-reqs for Wis (13) and Cha (17). If I EEkeeper'd these down, what consequences will I have to deal with? I am guessing lower Wisdom means he'd lose a few spells? What about Charisma? Does it have a Paladin-specific role as a primary stat or anything?

Thanks.

Ranged weapon balance

I just want to get a few things out of the way (I have a bad case of "someone is wrong on the internet"). I don't hate ranged weapons. I think archer is a good class. I just think there are some issues with ranged weapons that make them a bit less fun and useful than they should have been.

Melee weapons deal more damage. I don't think there's really any doubt about that. If you say 10 APR with Firetooth +5, I'll say 10 APR with Staff of the Ram +6. I guess that's the way it should be since ranged weapons are, well, ranged. Still, I used some of the top ranged weapons in my last playthrough and was very disappointed with the damage. You seemingly need to be an archer to really deal damage with ranged weapons, but you don't need to be a kensai to deal good damage with melee weapons. Piercing resistances don't help.

My biggest gripe is about ammo though. I did a very thorough playthrough of the game recently, and I found *no* +4 ammo at all. Is it in Neera's or Rasaad's ToB quests perhaps? Without that ammo, forget about the ranged weapons that don't produce their own ammo. They are not competetive when it really counts if they can't even hit.

I think it would have made ranged weapons so much more fun if the enchantment bonus came from the weapon rather than the ammo (I don't care how PnP did it). It's a simple change that really makes ranged weapons interesting without making them overpowered.
Ideally I would want every game to be balanced rather than having one imbalance in BG2 making up for another in BG1.
This s the exact thing I disagree with. I like that balance is shifting and fluid. It adds to strategic planning to know that different types characters will be strongest at different points in their careers. Again, it goes to the whole party concept. At different times, in different fights, different characters will have to carry the load. I call that excellent game design.
Right, I want to comment on this one. I don't think we're talking about the same thing. It's not about strategic planning from one fight to the next, it's about things being over- or underpowered for a whole game. I don't think that ever counts as excellent game design. It also has nothing to do with the party concept at all if it's a whole game we're talking about. If you want to min-max, you leave the worst classes behind and bring the best. Good game design makes that decision very hard for you by making sure there are no clear-cut cases of one class being better than another.

What Is The Most APR You Have Achieved (w/o GWW)

Just curious what attack/per round count is attainable w/o GWW in a way that is sustainable for a decent amount of time... In otherwords, what is the most APR you have achieved in BG that has lasted longer than 20 seconds.

(Obviously meaning Clerical buffs and such are allowed)

Clua Console Won't Open

Hiya, I'm not actually playing with the Enhanced Edition but I've been trying all morning to get the Clua Console to open. I've edited the Baldur.ini file but I can't seem to use Ctrl-Tab to open Clua Console in the game. Any suggestions?

How do attacks per round work, exactly?

$

If you have a high weapon speed (meaning a slow attack) it will take until later in the round for your first attack to be made, and then the remaining attacks will be made in quick succession. But is there any limit to how quickly these attacks can occur? For example, if your weapon speed is 9, meaning you have to wait until almost until the end of the round to attack, but you have, say, three attacks, will the other two occur both at once, or will you lose out on one?

Also, what happens when you have multiple attacks and cast a spell? If you have 10 attacks per round from energy blades or GWW, and you cast a spell that has casting time 8, I seem to recall that you cannot make 10 attacks all at once before you are able to cast your next spell. Can you only make two because that's how may decirounds are left? Or is there some other logic to this?

Is it *ever* possible to have more than 10 APR? If you use the true grandmastery option from the G3 tweak pack, it is in principle possible to have 11 APR with grandmastery in darts and improved haste. But will you actually be able to make all of them?

The Headcanon Topic - NPC Backstories

$

I mentioned my headcanon backstory for Shar-Teel over in the "Shag, Marry, Kill" topic and decided to dig it out. It's from a discussion with @Eudaemonium, some context was "Shar-Teel as Barbarian" and "dualing Shar-Teel to thief", and piecing together her story from the little we know.

Angelo had an affair with a female prisoner; Shar-Teel's real mother. To cover the affair up, Angelo put her in a special cell somewhere until the baby was born, then took it to have it raised in the family of a fellow Flaming Fist soldier (can go further to construct this: whose wife was pregnant, too, but their baby was stillborn, so for many years of her youth, Shar-Teel and everyone except Angelo and her parents believed she was the daughter of this other Flaming Fist guy). When Shar-Teel was a teenager, her "adoptive" father had an arguement with Angelo and threatened to expose the truth, for which Angelo had him killed ("made it look like an accident"). Shar-Teel overheard them argueing, and put the story together when her "father" was killed the day he wanted to expose Angelo. Her adoptive mother, intimidated by Angelo, backed Angelo's story that it was an "accident". Shar-Teel now had a flaming hatred for both her real and her adoptive father - Angelo for giving her away and killing who she thought of as father; the adoptive father for only using her as a way to blackmail Angelo. She still had empathy for her adoptive mother, who at least loved her like her real child and didn't see her as a political playball, but Shar-Teel also couldn't understand the weakness and fear that was even stronger than the love for her daughter.
With her high dex (and possible thief tendencies, if you go the fighter/thief route), Shar-Teel broke into the FF archives and found out that her biological mother was released from prison a few months after her birth. All she had was a name and a few pointers where her mother was from, so Shar-Teel set out to find her real mother, wandering the lands and checking in all the villages and towns mentioned in the FF documents. She learned to fight on the road, often from barbarians she travelled with for a while in the wilderness. After many years, she finally reached the village where her real mother was born, only to find out that she died from the aftermath of the months in prison (this is where her low con comes from: her mother had low con, too, and never fully recovered from the hardships in prison). So, her mother is indeed dead - Angelo's wife is alive, her adoptive mother is alive, but her biological mother is dead, for which Shar-Teel, once more, blames Angelo and the Flaming Fists. (Her mother was released because she was found innocent, to add insult to injury.)

What headcanon backstories do you have for the NPCs, mostly the less fleshed out BG1 characters?

I completed fight at temple, then nothing happened. From what I read in these forums he is supposed to be offered to lead the temple, or does this happen later. I finished the temple quit a while ago and nothing is happening w/ Rasaad. I only got him to do his quest, do I need to have him in my group longer for something else to happen ?

What Mod Is This??? (Looks Awesome)

Questions on the Nature of Backstabbery

So, I was thief-maging with my thief-mage, and tried to backstab someone with the Staff of the Magi. It didn't work, which surprised me to no end. I was under the impression all staves could backstab, but apparently it's only some.

And this made me wonder: Is there, or could someone make, a list of weapons which are suitable for backstabbing? Because I like me some backstabbing, and such a list would be nice for future thieving endeavors.

Cleric Holy Symbol W/O Lvl25

Was just curious, i had this plan to get it early, i plan on being a dual classed cleric, but i would never reach level 25 cleric obviously (Before anomen)...However, i figure, if i take Anomen with me, since he no longer progresses his fighter class, he would strictly level with his cleric up to level 25, then i could ditch him, and take his priest of lathander symbol :D (people who are neutral could do the same, just fail his quest)

Would this work?

(Then when i finally hit level 25, if i do choose to keep him around, i can give it back to him lol)
