Hi all, I'm wondering if the only possible way to increase stats (str, dex, etc.) is through tomes, or do you gain a new stat point every 4 levels (level 5, 9, etc.)? I'd like to build a new character around this principle (ie. take a few points out of non-essential stats to pump up critical stats) if there is natural progression. Thanks for any help.

Companion questions
I’m just in the beginning of the game (Nashkal Mines) and my party consists of; Me (Archer), Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc and Dynaheir.
I wanna try some other companions so I’m planning on leaving Jaheira and Khalid in Nashkal. But, if I change my mind and want them back again, will they join me?
And if, will they have the same experience levels as they had when I left them, or will they have levelled up?
Is Jaheira and Khalid the right ones to replace, or should it be Minsc and Dynaheir instead? I need a good fighter and he/she has to be good or neutral as I’m chaotic good.
And another question; If we kill a monster and it gives us 600 experience points, will it be distributed 100 points for each one of us (we are six), but if we were four members it would had been 150 points each?
Thanks!

BG1 Question about books
Hi all, loving all the books but wanting to read them in the right order..
Is there a resource outside the game that lists them?
Any help appreciated
I'm assuming they are all "backstory" and not related to specific quests
Is there ever any "game" value in opening each one or is it just a case of reading them for background interest?

Quick question about the Assassin Kit.
Ok, I know it says that the Assassin Thief Kit can go up to a X7 Backstab Modifier, but is that a X7 at LV13, when a normal thief has just gotten their X5, or is it at like LV20 which is the progressive math level? Just wondering. And don't you find it funny that an Assassin in this game is not required to be evil? Huh.

Questions on Sorcerers *Answered*
Two things I'd appreciate clearing up:
1) Items which grant extra spells (Metaspell Amulet, Circlet of Nethoril, etc) - Do these just grant extra 'casts'? And do they require resting to 'charge' in the same way as Mages' memorisation process? (Rather than allowing cheesy unequip-reequip exploitation.)
2) High Level Abilities - Do these just get added to 'known' spells at 9th Circle, with the same number of casts? Or do they have to replace known 9th spells?
Probably a bit obvious... but I'm having a dumb day...

How to make monks work offensively in BG1:EE with just one item. Really!
It has often been pointed out that monks kinda suck at most things in BG1:EE due to several factors such as inability to use magical fists, relatively lackluster thac0, and sub-par damage output among other things which basically makes them like a fighter with a few tricks and the problem of being unable to fight.
Well, I stumbled on something quite by accident that turns BG1:EE monks into at least competent fighters. It is an often overlooked item called Relair's Mistake. How does this cloak help the monk? First of all the wolf attack does a comparable damage to the monk's fist attacks and it even adds a whole attack per round to their base fist APR. Second, the wolf attack counts as a magical weapon (without adding any thac0 or damage bonus though) so that the monk can now hit creatures immune to normal weapons without equipping a weapon that reduces their APR to 1. Finally, most of the monk's innate spells and abilities still function in wolf form (so far it seems like only Flaming/Frozen fists do not function while in wolf form (Stunning Blow still works though)) and they can still use items while in wolf form. Since the cloak has unlimited uses you may just want to keep your monk in wolf form all the time since it is usually better than the natural form anyway.
Sadly, the cloak does little for the monk defensively, but there are other things to help with that.
"What do you think Sirs?"

Skyrim Baldur's Gate Mod
Hi I'm new here so i wasn't sure where to post this. I've been working on a mod that's essentially a recreation of Candlekeep so far from Baldur's Gate. It uses ported models from oblivion, however this is a personal project that I've done for fun and I don't intend to make it public unless i managed to replace all the ported models.
Only the inner grounds and the keep itself are mostly finished: Anyway here's some screens (all WIP) attached:

Serious warning : you miss quite critical information.
unarmed and ranged weapons suffer from +4 penalty to ac when attacked by melee and suffer from +8 Thac0 penalty in melee.
it is very very very very very seriously important information to all gamer. isn't it?
BUT there is nowhere explaining about it. (it is not in the manual and the game)
this information was explained original game loading screen (when I was young, I had seen this and remembered barely after my character died).
loading screen is gone on EE now and THIS information is also gone together, but this mechanism exists even now.
It must be explained at the manual and game tutorial. why does player suffer from hidden game mechanism?
you beamdog should explain this before the newbie suffer from hidden mechanism.
......
edited - additional explanation
smart person could use composit longbow in melee because composit longbow has better Damage Per Round ( (1d6+2) x 2 rate of fire and additional 1 thac0 ) at early game stage than other early game weapons (even better than two handed sword) unless they actually know the melee penalty.
long sword = 1d8 = 1~8
two handed sword = 1d10 = 1~10
composit longbow = (1d6 +2) * 2 rate of fire = 4~14 (actually better high damage rate)
the player could reasonably use ranged weapon in melee if the player don't know melee penalty.
right?
that's why the penalty should be described.

Has anyone ever done some custom voice work for baldurs gate 1&2?
i've always wondered about that... i see so many people making custom portraits but i don't think i've ever seen custom voice acting for the main character or others. Is it because nobody does it? Is it not possible to do it? I do a little bit of voice acting in my spare time and i would love to make some custom voice sets for my main character... though i have no idea how :( also i would love to take some dota 2 voice bits and use them as a voice set for baldurs gate 1&2. :)

how do i get Dermin Courtierdale to spawn?

ive been following this"
http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/Walkthrough2/SoA/chapter-2/quests/harper-hold-quests.php
during step four (4) i had a reputation of 15, so Reviane attacked me, that happened at the druids cove entrance.
important notes is i don't, as far as i can tell, have a romance with Jaheira, the moment i finished the first dungeon (when imoen was kidnapped) i asked Jaheira to leave the party, and after finishing about 90% of the quests in act 2 (including xzar), i asked her to join me.
im still in chapter 2
moments later the quest continued up untill the point i mentioned above.
im not sure if im missing something that i SHOULD have done or is this really a bug.
or maybe im missunderstanding something?
ive been traveling for around 12 ingame days... sleeping outside and in the streets of the city so far no go.
help please?

Come suggest some theme songs for each NPC!
For the music lovers out there!
What songs do you guys think would be fitting for each NPC? Share a tune that fits their character, their story or their attitude.
All suggestions welcome!
I'll begin with some:
Due t his marriage difficulties and his wife's name, I'll give Keldorn "Maria, Maria" by Santana. The pain in his voice when he says "Maria!" after his wife says "What if I don't love you anymore?" is just heartbreaking. Also, Manowar's "Heart of Steel" just describes his attitude toward evil perfectly for me
![image]()
Dorn must have some kind of song about being badass and evil. The songs "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood would fit, but I'm a big metal fan, so I'll give him Iced Earth's "Pure Evil"
Eldoth just has to be an outlaw country song, so I either have to go with "Didn't Your Mama Tell ya 'bout Boys Like Me" by Montgomery Gentry or for a better song, Iron Maiden's "Running Free"
Skie would definitely be the Upper Middle Class spoiled girl who totally thinks she's cool for listening to rrap, so I'd have to give her some Kanye (the go-to artist for these people). She's also the totally non-metal sorority girl who constantly misuses Dio's horn sign while listening to Blink 182

Adul's BG Adventures
Click here to read the playthrough:
Link to playthrough
This is a playthrough that I started last year which I'm picking up again. I roleplay a sorcerer with the canon party and document my adventures through a written diary and screenshots. I use the excellent BG1 NPC Project mod to add some flavor. I started playing the game in BGT, but since the last episode I'm now playing it in BG:EE. My English is not that great, so prepare for some cringeworthy grammar.
I plan to play this to the end of ToB, and I'll be posting new episodes every week to every two weeks, as my spare time permits. I'll announce new episodes in this topic.
One last thing: if you decide to take a look and would like to give me feedback of any kind it is indeed very welcome, but please use either this topic or visit this link to do so. I'd like to reserve the playthrough page for the episodes.
