Why are these weapons good/bad?

So now that I've finished my first blind playthrough, I've treated myself to looking at lists of items and seeing what I missed in BG 2. A few obviously jump out, like Ring of Gaxx, (though I'm not sure I could've handled a Demilich in SoA anyway), Big Metal Unit (Never would have found that playing blind and roleplaying Good) and not keeping Carsomyr safely in the bag of holding was an epic fail I regretted sorely.

Having occasionally seen names mentioned in discussions on this forum, a few items have come to my attention that I either A) Don't understand why everybody loves them. B) Don't understand why nobody mentions them.

A)
1. Belm: A +2 Scimitar that increases APR by 1. It looks nice, for sure, but with such a low enchantment, I guess it's gonna primarily be an offhand weapon. Which means you're gonna lose a lot of THAC0 unless u have very high specialisation in Scimitars and Two Weapon style. Unfortunately, there's no real standout scimitars in BG 2, so if u probably need to use a different weapon for mainhand, which means u won't get very high specialisation for both weapon classes... Oh yeah, and +1 APR seems kinda insignificant compared to 5 APR for MMMs.

2. Celestial Fury: I love this weapon, and of course will use it again, but given how much people talk about it, I was disappointed that I couldn't upgrade it beyond a +3 weapon in ToB. I almost never used its lightning charged ability (for reasons explained before lol), but even when I did, it wasn't usually effective against whatever that was tough enough that couldn't be handled on the edge of the blade itself. The random extra lightning damage was mostly useless, because it was unreliable and the main difficulty in BG 2 was being able to hit enemies, not hitting for how much damage. The thing that really made the weapon amazing for most of SoA was the chance to stun, which is basically a death sentence for its victim, but as enemies got tougher, hitting them in the first place became increasingly difficult, and I'm pretty sure the worst foes out there are immune to stun anyway.

B)
1. The Answerer: which I used to replace Celestial Fury, even though I had ++ in Katana and + in Long Swords for my Fighter/Mage. Of course you get this very late in the game, but I am still surprised that nobody ever mentions it. As a +4 weapon, it can hit some things that are innately immune to +3 (Melissan and Ravager, I think, amongst others...). Each hit makes it easier to hit the same target again, both with physical attacks and spells. You can basically not bother with Lower Resistance if you got a fighter who can hit reliably with The Answer!

2. Daystar: Am I right in understanding that this blade counts as a +6 vs Evil enemies?! (Which is basically most enemies). And it's utterly devastating against undead. AND it's got Sunray... which I haven't tried cos I've never used a monk, but the description looks amazing! If it really is as good as I think it is now... I really regret never noticing that Inn at the city gates.

What did I miss with Jaheira? And Why?

Having finished my first BG 2 playthrough (Vanilla, hence didn't post in BG 2 EE forum), I checked out more of Tord's Lilly Black LP that I had previously avoided for fear of spoilers. He seems to have done a fair amount of stuff related to Jaheira that I never got, and I realised that Jaheira has been kinda quiet for most of the game...

What I did get:
1) At the very beginning there was the first stages of her romance content, but I picked Aerie, so naturally that stopped after the Aerie vs Jaheira argument where Charname had to choose.

2) I remember coming across a merchant who encouraged Charname to buy Jaheira a necklace or something, and I chose not to, because I was planning to choose Aerie anyway.

3) Just out of the Underdark, in fact the first time I went to Watcher's Keep, there was a bandit ambush where one of them held a knife to Jaheira's throat, and demanded the party hand over all their gold... which was a lot at the time, so I took a gamble and refused. (Hey, as long as she didn't get chunked, I could raise her! lol) The party killed the bandits with ease, but Jaheira was pretty pissed off. @ChildofBhaal599 tells me that this was part of Jaheira's romance content... which is kinda odd, cos I had already picked Aerie, and she was the one that commented on the Phaere decision.
So I never got anything to do with the curse quest or the Harpers... which is kinda disappointing. What are the triggers for them? @ChildofBhaal599 again mentions that the Harper quest requires you to help Xzar, which if true... seems ironic... I refused to help Xzar especially because Jaheira was in my party, and I couldn't justify agreeing to help somebody she and Khalid killed in the streets of Beregost in BG 1!

At this stage I am unconcerned about spoilers, so please do let me know what I've missed regarding Jaheira.

Also, on a related note... am I right in thinking that Minsc doesn't have an associated quest like the other NPCs? That seems kinda odd actually. I mean he does kinda urge you to go to the Umar Hills, but then the quest there has nothing to do with him, and he says nothing about it once you are there.

usually i could use one of my companions as cannonfodder but not anymore for some reason... does the character need a certain level of charisma? is it because i am playing as evil as possible? what is the point in this character if i can now only talk to her using the bhaalspawn... she always says something like "i dream of wind-swept shores blah blah" its really starting to annoy me... i might just take her out and go on

Magical Invisibility vs Stealth question

So i made an assassin who will dual to mage. I decided not to put any points in MS/HiS and rely on invisibility spells later on. Will i miss anything from the skills? Are they better than the spell in some way i dont know of? Like not being detectable by means that would detect the invisibility spell?

Thac0 Elves and Two weapon fighting...

OK so I am playing BG2EE with an elf F8/T11 with 18/98 strength, longsword**, Club** & TWS**

I have Blade of roses +3 main hand showing Thac0 4 with or without an off hand weapon equipped.

If I equip a longsword +1 in the off hand it shows a Thac0 of 10

If I equip a club +2 (wyverns tail) in the off hand it shows a Thac0 of 13

Can anyone explain this to me?

It seems to me the two off hand weapons should have the same Thac0 - that the long sword +1 gets an extra +1 due to elf but the club is a +2 so the end result should be the same.

All you wanted to know about the “Adventure Y”

Now with BG2:EE released and we all know about Hexxat at last it’s time to anticipate something new.

So I think the discussion about the “Adventure Y” is going to be the next hit.

There’ve been several threads on this forum about this topic but I will try to gather EVERY piece of information and update it when something new is known. I hope @TvrtkoSvrdlar and others who started topics about the Adventure Y in the past excuse me ;)

A little bit of history first.

Tweets by Trent Oster, 12 May 2012

Adventure X is going to be standalone. Keep your ears peeled for Adventure Y, which is intimately linked to the Bhallspawn storyline

Adventure X is a side adventure, while Adventure Y is an optional storyline piece in the Bhallspawn series

Tweets by Sam Hulick and Trent Oster, 23 May 2012

SH: Listening to the #BGEE Adventure Y main theme on repeat while doing paperwork. Never has something so mundane felt so heroic & adventurous.

TO: I do the same. It can become a liability when the #bgee Adventure Y theme is going hard and you are trying to do contracts.

Later PhillipDaigle tweeted that the Adventure Y can be set at or near Boareskyr Bridge, accidentally the place where Cyric killed Bhaal.

Dee in November 2012 said (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/142403/#Comment_142403) the "Adventure Y" hasn't been finished yet, and will likely be released post-ship.

Here (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/369710/#Comment_369710) is said the Adventure Y has been confirmed for after BGE2:EE (release). This post (9 October 2013) is promoted by LiamEsler.

Basically there were no news at all after that.

All of a sudden PhillipDaigle here on the 30th of November 2013(http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/418768/#Comment_418768) said something that can be interpreted as:

1) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y is planned for after BG2:EE, or
2) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y in not going to be released in the next patch, or
3) it’s wrong to think that the Adventure Y is set after BG2:EE.

We know elminster (a Beta Tester) (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/346026/#Comment_346026) said the Adventure Y will cost money although in the past Tanthalas (also a Beta Tester, Private Beta Moderator) (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/14040/#Comment_14040) had thought about the Adventure Y as a part of the new content for EE and not a DLC.

So, we know the Adventure Y is tied with the Bhaalspawn plot and has its own theme.

Taking into account those words about money and realizing the Adventure Y has not been definitely released before BG2:EE it seems reasonable to agree with the 3rd variant and say the Adventure Y is set somewhere before the story of the Bhaalspawn ends.

Moreover, I think it’s safe to conclude from PhillipDaigle’s post the Adventure Y is meant to be content for BG:EE, not BG2:EE.

There’s an idea that the Adventure Y takes place after Sarevok's defeat and shreds some light on those “circumstances much darker than anyone would have thought” under which the Bhaalspawn left for Amn. So this adventure would probably take place between the two games and end with the Bhaalspawn getting captured by Irenicus.

It’s interesting to take into account that TrentOster - after looking (6 September 2013) at a feature request of an interlude chapter that narrates the happenings between Sarevok's ending and the capture of the Bhaalspawn by Irenicus - said “Sounds kind of adventurey. Could be a fun concept.” (http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/comment/350159/#Comment_350159)

One can interpret “adventurey” as “adventure y”.

So, right now it's everything from what has been confirmed.

Smaller parties and XP

Recently tried my first trio in BG2 and frankly... xp really isn't that different. You get such huge loads of xp as quest experience, and so far the only difference I've noticed is a single level, heck it actually just feels as if I'm getting that level just a little earlier than with 6.
I'm guessing it's a lot more noticeable with while soloing or maybe with a duo?

Sorcerer AC?

I am playing the black pits II, and I made twin sorcerers with near identical stats. They both have 18 Dexterity, and currently no magical items granting them AC bonuses. But one of them has 3AC, which I had expected, and the other one inexplicably has a natural -3AC. The one with -3AC has four more points of Wisdom, but I highly doubt that'd make a difference. The -3AC will cast Spirit Armor and have -11AC, which I had thought to be kind of wild. Does the community have any thoughts on how there could be such a huge difference in AC?
EDIT - They are both Dragon Disciples, if that makes any difference.

Hammer/Quarterstaff Question

So I was wondering if there were any throwing hammers, besides the Dwarven Thrower, that have a +1 or more enchantment to it and if a Fighter/Cleric can use them.
My other question was about the Staff Mace. Can a Stalker backstab with the staff mace? If so will a Stalker/Cleric be able to backstab with said weapon?
Thanks

What Is The Monster I Am Thinking Of?

I just was thinking on the old days of BG2 when i used to play, and i dimly remember a Huge monster (the size of a dragon - and maybe he was) I remember walking down, then having dialog with him, and then a huge fight, but if i remember correctly, something made him different from other dragons...lol...Well whatever monster im thinking of, its something that must be easily missed kinda, as i recently beat the game 3 times :D

I think it was....Three headed? No? i don't remember

It's not Firrkrag, Shadow Dragon, Irenicus Dragon, Watchers Keep Dragon, TOB Dragon, etc.

Does this sound like anything to you? I would like to fight it again. Maybe i am losing my mind idk. I think i saw it in a picture semi recently too... It is however possible that i am just remembering it wrong.

Is there a giant creature other than a dragon in the game?

BG II New Romances Console Codes and FAQ needed

Hi. I am wondering if anyone knows or can point me in the direction of console commands associated with the new romances in BG II? I am aware of the romance FAQ on the GameFaqs site, but have tried to use these console commands on the new romances, such as advancing the lovetalks, etc., and they have not worked. Does anyone know or can anyone point me in the direction of what the new console commands are that are used to advance the lovetalks of the new romances, (Dorn, Neera,Hexxat, Rasheed.)? Also other console commands associated with these romances? Is there a FAQ anywhere yet for the new romances, what is required for them to happen, to advance, and what is associated with them as well as their console commands? I would like to see all the romances played out (I have the multiple romances mod installed) and do not have the time to play the game ten times over, but the old console codes do not seem to work on the new romances.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers, Slainte, Salute, Sante, Skaal, Kampai

Beholder Death Ray

My Korgan has -3 vs Death and -1 vs Spell, yet he's still getting killed by Death Ray. I really can't understand what the hell is going on, considering unless the Ray has a humungous penalty, it should not be affecting him at all. What's even funnier is that in older files I was able to negate all rays besides cause wounds with this same setup, yet for some reason it is failing now. Only using SCS.

Feedback on new NPC's (SPOILERS!)

I would like to give you my feedback on new NPC’s added in BGEE and BG2EE
Spoiler Alert!
Dorn:
Abilities: He is a decent character. Good STR and with his Negative Plane Prot makes him an undead slayer.
Quest: His BGEE quests were good as there was a whole revenge concept. But in BG2EE his quests are a little extreme as in BGEE Dorn could finish his quests on his own but joined you for your power but in BG2EE there is no way he can finish his quests on his own. And his final quest gives him a mediocre that you barely use which causes him to lose his powers. His quests in ToB was bugged and I never got the trigger.
I think the reward for losing his powers should be better then that sword.
Rasaad:
Abilities: He is not so good in BGEE but in BG2EE he is unstoppable.
Quests: His BGEE quests are not bad. But in BG2EE and ToB they are don’t make sense as well as his bad roleplaying. All adventures are Hero’s or Villains in either of his quests he does not become one.
I think he should get some divine intervention and get redeemed.
Neera
Abilities: Wild mage with bad stats.
Quests: I didn’t play her in BGEE but I did in BG2EE. First of all she is not Chaotic Neutral she is more like Neutral Evil as she has no compassion to anyone and does not have the trademarks of being CN which is being Insane. Her quests don’t make sense and defeating a whole order of Red Wizards are ridiculous at LVL 10 .
I don't know what will make her better.
Hexxat:
I will start a game with her in it to see her as well.
