Archer or Kensai? (For taking through both games)

Hi everyone, not sure if some of this has been discussed before.

Currently considering one of the aforementioned characters to run through both games with so what I would like to know is:

1) Are the bows and such fixed now? As in can a +4 bow hit enemies requiring such a weapon without the relevant enchanted ammo.

2) Would going for longbows over crossbows or the often praised short-bows still be viable throughout both games?

Or am I just better off gritting my teeth through early squishy and picking the Kensai (not quite sure on what weapons I'd focus on mind you as a pure Kensai)

Your Favourite Party

As the title says. What was that one party, the one that was fun to play, fun to have around and fun to crush your enemies into the ground with?

I honestly found most of the NPCs in BG1 pretty interchangeable overall, so I'll pass on that.

In BG2 though, I had a party consisting of CHARNAME, Imoen, Jan, Keldorn (Who got swapped out Sarevok once I stopped abusing his Dispel Magic and Carsomyr), Aerie and Jaheira, that I just really enjoyed playing with.

The whole Bhaalspawn family dynamic that I got in ToB was especially great. It almost felt like a sitcom. CHARNAME and Aerie the sickeningly sweet sweethearts with a baby strapped to Aerie's back, Imoen the cheerful younger sister, Sarevok the moody older brother, Jan, the crazy uncle who shall no doubt give the BEST BIRTHDAY GIFTS EVER and Jaheira, the only one apart from Sarevok with a lick of common sense.

My only regret was a lack of Minsc or Valygar, but alas, Jan Jansen and his army of trained monkeys is not to be denied.

Class Suggestion for Otori Takeo!

I don't know if anybody has read the "Tales of the Otori" series of novels by Lian Hearn.

I loved it, both the setting and the characters, especially the protagonist, Takeo.

I am looking to put Otori Takeo into BG EE... I want suggestions for his class.

He is a 15-year old boy (at the start of the saga) who has the blood of the Tribe within him. The Tribe are a fantasy version of ninjas basically, with various fantasy powers, including:
1) Exceptional hearing.
2) A gaze that puts animals/people to sleep.
3) Leave an image of themselves behind. (Actually almost exactly like Mislead).
4) Invisibility.
5) Detect illusions/invisibility.

My first instinct was to roll a Fighter/Thief. But then Takeo was never a thief. He was an assassin initially and later on, a samurai lord. Naturally I thought of the Stalker and Assassin kits, which would fit the flavour quite well.

However, as far as I am aware, those kits cannot use Mislead, Sleep, Invisibility and Purge Invisibility/True Sight.

So now I am thinking Fighter/Mage... but then the Fighter/Mage cannot use Hide in Shadows or Backstab, and if I was gonna be faithful to the character, I cannot use any of the spells outside of Illusion and Divination schools (Except Sleep).

Is there anything I've missed? What would you recommend for the character I described?

Any1 else think +1 Stat Manuals are the dumbest thing ever? Lets find some Roleplaying alternatives!

So, I just read a book and now I'm strong.

lolwtf?

I always thought there would be better ways to roleplay a stat increase. Most would take more than a day of training, maybe with another NPC, or an event, or spending time in a specific location. Something like this:

Strength: Charname meets random NPC in the game (maybe someone like Bub Snikt or Scar). They talk and then he decided to show young charname how to train to be the ultimate warrior. Charname now has a better exercise regiment and has increased his muscle mass and athleticism. Represented by +1 STR.

Dexterity: Charname meets the Shadow Thieves. Renal Bloodscalp takes a liking to him and decides to show him some tricks of the trade. He has his assistants give him some pointers on how to hone his reflexes. He has to survive the "pit of death and bridges" in the Northeast corner of the Shadow Thieves compound. After this intense training regime, charname now has better reflexes and eye-hand coordination. Represented by +1 DEX.

Constitution: Charname visits the temple of Rasaad's monks. He speneds a day with them, learning to meditate and cleanse his body. The monks show the Bhaalspawn how to tap into his inner strength (or some other kung-fu chi-type shit) and become one with the force or whatever. He leaves the retreat with a greater fortitude than when he entered it. Represented by +1 CON.

Intelligence: Charname visits Thalantyr or Firebead in Beregost. The wise old mages ask him to interpret certain texts. Charname spends a couple hours a week studying the work, finding patterns, taking tests and solving various problems. Upon completion, the old wizard tells him that he has now honed his mind, and his perception is now sharper than when he began. Represented by +1 INT.

Wisdom: Charname visits the Temple of Helm/Lathander/Cyric/Talos/Torm/whatever or a Druid Grove. Watcher Oisig/some druid or priest tests charname judgement having him make difficult decisions that require insight and understanding. After failing repeatedly, the Bhaalspawn eventually gets the hang of it. He learns more about himself and how to interpret situations with a clear mind. Represented by +1 WIS.

Charisma: Rather than reading How to Make Friends and Influence people in one six second round, the Bhaalspawn meets either a bard/actor/celebrity (or some charming adventurer like Coran) or a leader of men (like a paladin/general... someone like Duke Eltan). By spending time with his new friend and observing his interactions (while asking for some good advice) Charname develops a sense of how to be a good leader, influence people, win admirers and have his companions respect him. Represented by +1 CHA.

Just an idea I've had recently, and a better roleplaying alternative to the tomes in my opinion. I would absolutely love to hear what other people say, so please share your ideas! :)

Classic FM Hall of Fame 2014 - Let's get some Baldur's Gate in there!

Hello, fellow gamers.

Every year Classic FM (a British radio station, but well respect in their own right) host voting for the top 300 pieces of classic music, as chosen by the public. Last year, gamers rocked things up by voting in droves for Jeremy Soul's Dragonborn, Nobuo Uematsu's Aerith's Theme and Grant Kirkhope's Viva Pinata score, and getting in 2013's chart. This year, it would be great to get more in there.

I'm sure all of us have our favourite pieces of game music, and want more people to learn of the music talent that exists in the video game industry. The reason that game music entering the Hall of Fame made such a stir, was because some people who listened to Classic FM believed that video game music is not as respected as classic music, or even film music, but that's the attitude we wanted to change. By getting more video game scores out there, people can see and understand why they are so beloved, and just how masterfully crafted they are.

If you want to get involved, and vote for your favourite pieces then head over to http://halloffame.classicfm.com/2014/vote/ to cast your votes. You get to give your top three tracks by listing the title and the composer and then submitting your vote. Sadly, many game tracks don't pop up on their search (I imagine because they're not mainstream), for example searching for Michael Heonig wouldn't bring up anything, so if you want to get your specific tracks you would need to manually write them in; for example 'Baldur's Gate 2 Main Theme' and then write in the composer Michael. In order to get the main pieces in, I suggest everyone voting for a particular track to get in there; if more people concentrate their votes, rather than spreading them out, there more chance there is of getting particular game tracks in there. Of course, if there are other game tracks you want to get in there, make a suggestion or vote.

So, suggest your pieces and see if we can get some good things to vote for, or just go out and cast your votes now if you want to try and get some great game tracks in to that Hall of Fame.

Companion's Starting Weapon Proficiencies?

I am trying to create a new character, and trying to get weapon proficiencies that will not conflict with allowing me to give each member of my party the best weapon they are proficient with. Problem is none of the guides I have found for NPC companions even mention weapon proficiencies for some strange reason.

If anyone could provide some info or a link to a guide that lists every companion in both BG:EE and BG2:EE's starting weapon proficiencies that would really be helpful

Hi everyone

It is my first post in this forum and I would like to ask you do you have list of BG2EE new NPCs quests? (When they begin or how to start them etc). I am asking that because I would like to explore new content but I don't plan to have all new NPCs with me all the time.

Thanks in advance.

Fighter/Mage/Assassin

I have been trying unsuccessfully to EE kepper my fighter/mage/theif info fighter/mage/assassin. I change his kit into assassin and it says assassin on my char sheet in game and i can give him the innate abilities for level 1 no problem. But when i level up none of the assassin abilities are given. Recently tried to level 4 but no extra poison , i have to manually give him the innate abilities for each level not to mention i still get 25 points on level up instead of only 15 as assassins should get. So my question is how can i make my fighter/mage/theif into fighter/mage/assassin properly ? without having to change it via EE keeper for each level for abilities etc. Is there a way to properly use a kit this way ?

Many thanks

Quick question..

In what area can I find Zhurlong's boots? I searched the forested area south (with the sunken house) of Beregost, killed every hobgoblin and ghoul there was but didn't find any boots. Should I look further south?

I'm not sure what a badlands looks like actually.. being a non-native speaker.

BG2EE iPad launch

Just wondering where the iPad version of BG2EE is. Was it successfully posted to the App Store and we're waiting for it to show up or has it not even been posted to he App Store yet? I'm really looking forward to this release and can't wait to continue my games, so if any indication of timeframe is available I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Aerie as a Vampire

Is anyone else interested in Aerie becoming a vampire? She becomes cursed, but I would like to see become and stay interesting. It would make for an interesting mod. Whether or not she becomes evil, if there was still a love interest, and her general personality change.

Jaheira's questionable neutrality.

So I'm one of those who goes against the grain in actually liking Jaheira both as a character and as a party member, however for RP purposes, one thing has always bothered me... despite her notional neutrality, she's always seemed to me to behave like a Good aligned character. For example, when your party achieves very high rep for saintly acts of kindness, she may very mildly chastise you about the "need to maintain balance", but if the party is sickeningly evil and drops to very low rep, she gets FURIOUS and even (if I remember right, please correct me if I don't) walks out on the party at the lowest reps. Also, in her character quests in BG2...
...her actions towards Baron Ployer seem like something a Chaotic Good character would do, overthrowing an evil landowner for the good of the people. When the Harpers turn on Charname, she defies them to defend her friend's liberty - again, going against authority to do the right thing, very much a Chaotic Good approach.
So what do you think? Is she really a chaotic good and not a neutral, or am I reading too much into this?

Irrational love for particular spells.

Does anyone else have particular spells that they *really* like using... generally for reasons other than gaming power I mean? (A good rule of thumb is whether it'd be worth fitting it in a sorcerer...)

I have two:
- Clairvoyance - I really like having a fully visible map.
- Death Spell - ok, so by the time you get it the enemies it affects are weak enough for a couple if fighters to run through in short order, but there's something very cool about just switching off a dozen hobgoblins in a single round! (Mage's kill count catches up really quickly at this point!)

Poison weapon

$

I just completed a no-reload solo run in BG1 using an assassin and it was incredibly easy thanks to poison weapon.

Used on a bow, it does amazing damages and prevents spellcaster from doing anything (even applies if they use mirror image)

Once you have access to explosive arrows, it is just crazy, since the poison applies to everyone in the radius of the explosion : just send 2-3 explosive arrows (1 round) and watch everybody dies.

So poison weapon is completely OP in BG1 but how does it fare in BG2?
I suspect its power to disminished quite rapidly. Could anyone give feedback on that?

Thanks in advance

Picture: 8 and 13 on the games page in steam.

One of the pictures has a giant hole in the middle that apparently they need to "rope down"
I am going to assume its Rasaads quest, but can someone confirm this?

The other picture that i don't recognize in game is of the party approaching and dialoguing an Amphitheater guard...whatever that is..He is shown in between two torches...

Choosing an Evil Alignment

$

How do you decide which alignment to choose, when you want to do an evil playthrough? How do you differentiate between Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic Evil and how do you (if at all) reflect these decisions in gameplay?

I was considering playing with a Chaotic Evil PC, but as I read about the alignment I came to realize it would be extremely improbable that such person would travel with a party for long, seems link an alignment best suited for solos. How do you role-play the different levels of evil? :)
