I will do a silent let's play of baldur's gate 2 tactics/scsii mods for powergaming purpose and testing

Would you more enjoy a raw footage of me getting killed 10 times by some bosses or eddited footage with only one good run when i get everything right and win a battle?

Also other things i should or should not do?
also would you mind cutting boring part like shopping/runing back running in town from place X to Y?
the ironman or something option is not possible i will die.

So I am going to be doing an evil go through. How does one complete the quests while still keeping your reputation medium to low to maintain your evilness? Well, with killing random peasants and children.

This is a thread to discuss your favorite cheese in the game and some cheesy things in the past that you miss (or are glad to see go). I noticed that it is no longer possible for drink a potion and switch in a scroll, for example. Crowning moment of Overhaul awesome or are you sad that your Paladin can no longer have his pseudodragon familiar?

Neera romance stuck? BG2EE *SPOILERS*

I seem to be getting nowhere with Neera at the moment. At our last talk we decided that Charname would "come to her" the next time we rested. I've rested numerous times since then and tried to initiate dialougue with her but nothing seems to trigger the "sleeping-together-for-the-first-time-talk".

What's wrong?

I just want to make sure I won't miss anything, so I'll ask: how do I trigger these two? Will they show up automatically in time or do I have to do something?

Should barbarians die when their rage ends?

$

I was just playing as a barbarian and when her rage ended, she simply collapsed without being hit and without making a sound, and then the "death's hand" screen played. She had received a fair amount of damage while raging, so I assume her death was the result of readjusting to "non-raged" status with a low number of hit points.

I know berserkers automatically lose 15 HPs when their rage ends, which can kill them if they have less than 15 HPs by that time - but does the same also hold true for barbarians? I played as barbarians often in BG2, and I don't ever recall one dying when their rage ended. The way she simply collapsed without making a sound was also strange - it leaves me wondering whether this is really a bug.

What's your fave spell for each spell level?

So, what spells do you guys like best/use most often for each spell level, and why? For example, My fave spells (and it was really tough only choosing one per level) are:

Mage:

lvl 1. Magic Missile - General all-purpose damage dealing spell that scales as you level up. In the absence of other protection magics, this can help remove mirror image duplicates

lvl 2. Glitterdust - Removes invisibility and has a chance to blind

lvl 3. Fireball - Good for clearing out a large group of weak creatures

lvl 4. Greater Malison - Makes it easier to get spell effects to stick to my opponents

lvl 5. Chaos - Good for disabling a large group of baddies

lvl 6. Contingency - Good for instantly activating self-buff spells

lvl 7. Limited Wish - If you've invested in wisdom, this is such a useful spell

lvl 8. Simulacrum - If having 1 of your character is great, but 2 is even better

lvl 9. Wish - Good enough to be listed twice

lvl 10. Improved Alacrity - To speed up casting time

-----

Priest (Cleric or Druid):

lvl 1. Armor of Faith - Good damage soaking buff spell

lvl 2. Draw Upon Holy Might - Great buff spell

lvl 3. Holy Smite - Great for dealing with evil creatures

lvl 4. Call Woodland Beings - Summons a nymph with some priest spells that can help on the battlefield

lvl 5. Insect Plague - Great for disabling opposing spellcasters, and affects multiple opponents

lvl 6. Heal - Great for bringing allies back from the brink of death

lvl 7. Aura of Flaming Death - Grants protection, plus deals damage to opponents

For some reason I can't fathom, maybe on accident, I sold the Firetooth crossbow. I know I can use Keeper to just give myself another one, but I'm just wondering, is there a command you can use to find where a given item is in the game?

BG2EE: Neera's quest (SPOILERS)

SO I have made my way to the Red Wizards' hideout in the Promenade. I tried to enter the slave pens (well through the door with the two guards) with the Gul Dukeem and this fellow appears and says I'm trying to end their operation, and then everybody attacks me. Behind the door, there are about twenty(!) dudes trying to kill me. I really can't nuke 'em with Cloudkill or such because there's a neutral bartender there, and if you accidentally kill him, it will lower your reputation by eight! Is this even supposed to happen? I've tried to sneak my way to slave pens but there's nothing you can really do.

What are your experiences with this quest? What did YOU do?

After six years of hard work, it's finally here. I have so much respect for the BGR project team for pulling through and finishing this instead of abandoning it like so many others would have. They're my new favorite modders now.

Also, for multiclassing your companions without being restricted to one class (To make Ajantis a Paladin/Divine Champion/Annointed Knight, for example), do this:

-Open the NWN2 Toolset (NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe)
-Click on Plugins at the top -> Campaign Editor
-Select BGR
-In the box at the right, Under 'Behavior', click 'AllowUnrestrictedLevelUp' and change it to 'True.'
-Click 'Save Campaign' above the box, and you're finished.

End of SoA: Not sure if I'm bugged or what.

Quick question:

I'm playing my first ever complete Evil run through BG2. I've just defeated Irenicus at the World Tree, and have entered Hell. I went left first, and encountered Wraith Sarevok. He taunted me to go Slayer-mode, and I relenquished because I'm evil.

And... I seem to have no special abilities. Which means no way to go Slayer-mode. Reloading and resting doesn't help. Is this the design of Hell, or did I encounter a bug? I don't remember, as it has been several years since I got this far in the game, regardless of alignment. Also, I assume I have to enter Slayer-mode to succeed in the evil path for this trial, yes?

Thanks for your help.

Mind Shield = Mind Shield?

I know about three "mind shield" items (usually helmets), one claims protection against charms, the other lists two, and then there is the new one which lists feeblemind, confusion, fear and charm. Is that just an extended description for all items that have the mind shield, or do the protections differ from each other?
Meaning, that the helmet with protection versus charms will not help against fear, but the other item will protect the wearer? Or all protect against all these mind influences?

Which character the game thinks is the "strongest fighter" in your party

$

In my run through BGEE, I've reached AR5200 (the area Dudleyville calls Dryad Falls) and just encountered the four gnolls who challenge your "strongest fighter" if you claim you can't pay their toll. Currently, the game seems to think my strongest fighter is Imoen, presumably because she is level 5 and everyone else is at most 4. While not a bug, this is definitely not optimal game behavior. As an experiment, I loaded from a quicksave I made shortly before the encounter, and dropped Imoen from the party temporarily. After talking to the gnolls, the game picked Minsc, probably because of those in the party who are level 4 in (one of) their class(es), he has the most hit points.

Now that you all know the situation, here is my question: what attributes of a character do you think should be checked to determine the "strongest fighter"? In my opinion, the best way the game could determine this is to check a character's base THAC0 (or if possible, THAC0 with a modifier from strength without magical enhancement), and then hit points. What are your thoughts?

Multiplayer Enhancement Ideas

I think it would be really sweet if multiplayer was improved further.

1. Right now most games have passwords so we need a filter option
2. We need the ability to have a chat room box open when we click on the game and start a conversation with the people in the game without taking them out of the game. That way we can find out what the people are looking for party wise and if we want to join without interrupting, or forcing people to put passwords on their games.
3. Game spot detection would be awesome especially with an auto matching system

Anyway...

4. I think a general chat area would be pretty cool to have while in game to talk with other players that are just hanging around or about to go into a game.

The Tales of Sima Jin - A Noober's Journey in BG 2 (Let's Play Series)

Hey guys,

This is my first playthrough of BG 2, inspired by the master storyteller, 'Tord' of the Youtube Channel, 'mynameisnotlilly'. As a complete noobie to Let's Plays and BG 2, my first few sessions were pretty shaky, but I feel like I am learning and improving in both regards, and will now try to share/publicise my efforts a bit more. Hopefully a few of you will find it interesting/entertaining, perhaps reminiscing about your own 'first time' with BG 2 ;)

My Let's Play is the complete opposite to the only other active Let's Play on this forum (that I am aware of). Whereas 'zur312' is obviously a veteran powergaming silently through a heavily modded game that jacks up the difficulty, I am a BG 2 noobie roleplaying blindly (and not silently) through the Vanilla experience at 'Core-rules' difficulty. Whereas he only uploads the highlights from his journey, I am uploading every minute of mine to retain a complete record of my first adventure.

Anyways enough fluff, more details can be found in my original post below, and also on my youtube channel. Here's some handy links :)

My original post:
[spoiler]
This is my first full playthrough of BG 2, and also my first attempt to record a Let's Play of any game, inspired by the master storyteller, 'Tord' of the Youtube Channel, 'mynameisnotlilly'.

Sadly I do not share his talent for roleplay or his radio-ready voice, so I do not promise any quality or level of expertise, either with regards to gaming or narration. In periods, it basically becomes 'Let's watch this noob play BG 2 whilst thinking out loud.'

I am now recording primarily for my own enjoyment, so that I will be better motivated to remain faithful to roleplay and so that I can look back on what I am sure will be an epic journey through the great city of Athkatla and Empire of Amn beyond. If anyone else might be interested in following my trials and tribulations, then I will steadily upload my adventures onto Youtube.

Oh yeah, I am playing BG 2 Vanilla, with the only installed mod being the BG 2 Fixpack (Corefixes only) from http://www.gibberlings3.net/

I would regard my run as 'semi-blind'. With the exception of the very beginning of the game, I have no idea what to expect. I have avoided all walkthroughs/guides, but I have read the Manual that comes with the download from GOG, and I also use the following resources to help me in my journeys:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/11334
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/13870
http://www.dotd.com/mm/MM00000.htm

Oh and of course I've sought guidance on this forum. But always in a non-spoiler-ish and specific way.

What's Good about being Evil?

$

I have owned and played the entire saga several times, but I have never finished an "evil" run.
What usually happens is, that after a couple of sessions (at most), it grows tedious and I get bored, to paraphrase Firkraag.

The thing that gets to me, usually, is that it feels forced, in a RPG-way, for evil characters to be doing most of the missions.

Apart from the obvious power (especially with Dorn added to the mix), and the fact that Viconia is very beautiful (which is not a reason for starting a game anyway), what is the attraction to an evil party?
