let's talk Rasaad

Question(s) for you guys

When you picked up Rasaad, how much experience did he have in comparison to your party?

I just got him and he only had around 400k experience when the average exp of my party was around 2.5 million. I really don't understand the NPC scaling at all, it seems the game really hints at having permanent members and not swapping as much as BG1 does.

Anyway, I consoled Rasaad up to level 17, 2 million exp. Do you guys think that is fair or should he be less than that since they scale so well?

Thanks for any input. Didn't want to miss out on him because he was left in the lurch

Do you think that new NPCs (DLC, mod, etc.) should match original NPCs content wise?

Just like in the topic. Do you think that new NPCs in BG:EE shouldn't have too many banters and overcomplicated quests, but they should have expanded story and overall content in BG2:EE, so they would fit in the original formula?

What's your best stats roll?

I just started vanilla BG2, and wanted to make a character. I tend to play with the first 80+ roll for my PC. But this one I got upon the very first roll (after stats re-assignment).

STR 18/99
DEX 17
CON 19
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA14

Total 92 with a 18/99. Jesus.

NPC stuck in Maze (may contain spoiler)

Right! I'm at the last mission of destroying the the vampire cult i.e. to get passage to Imoen. However I think I've encountered a bug where the MAze spell one of the mage vampires cast doesn't let my party member outside. Ones hexxat got stuck in limbo - reloaded and now Rasaad is stuck in a Maze.

Known bug? Any resolutions?

BG2: EE Party Compilation Advice Requested

Hey everyone, I'm just starting my first playthrough of Baldur's Gate 2 The Enhanced Edition and I'm going for the typical 'good guys,' party. I'm pretty sure I'm solid on four of the five companions I'm going to have, but I'm having no small amount of difficulty choosing who the fifth companion will be. Any suggestions would be welcomed [you'll see what party make-up I have in my mind when you read below what companion's I've already chosen]

1. PC [Human Male Cavalier / Wields 2-Hand Sword(s)]
2. Keldorn [Human Male Inquisitor / Wields 2-Hand Sword(s) as well as Longsword & Shield when needed]
3. Anomen [Human Male Fighter/Cleric / Wields Flail (or Mace) & Shield]
4. Valygar [Human Male Stalker / Wields Longbow & Katana (Single-Weapon Style)]
5. Aerie [Female Avariel Wizard/Cleric / Wields Sling & Dagger (plus Magic, obviously)] <--- Chosen Romantic Interest
6. ???

As you can see, I've got a pretty straight-forward party, however I've got a clear issue with the fifth companion. I ALWAYS take Minsc & Jaheira when I play BG2 so I'm steering clear of them this time. I SHOULD pick a Thief but honestly, I do NOT like Yoshimo [he doesn't fit the mold for my party either], Nalia annoys the living hell out of me, and Jan is just fricken' maddening. The only characters I'm really considering taking with me at the moment is Mazzy, maybe Nalia [even though I don't care for her, she fits the mold and fulfills the need for a Thief], and Imoen [which won't be till later], and of course even though it goes against EVERYTHING I'm trying to justify taking Viconia somehow just for the sexy drow factor [ha ha].

So... Any advice? I'm having real trouble deciding.

BG2:EE No more 9th lvl or HLA spells without 18 int

Since devs are finally fixing the missing intelligence limitation when learning spells, i.e. in BG2:EE you cannot learn or cast 9th level spells unless you have at least 18 int, Neera, Aerie, Imoen, Jan and Nalia can't cast these any more. Since most HLAs occupy 9th level spells slots, you can't use them either. Since Neera, Imoen and Nalia have 17 int, you can raise them to 18 fairly easily with Golden Ioun Stone that can be acquired in Saradush. Aerie and Jan however, can't really reach 18 without some extra effort.

I think its good to fix obvious bugs, but personally I think fixing this one has a major negative impact on the NPC choices you have in the game. Edwin just becomes too good, as if he wasn't already...

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Above is incorrect. Only scribing spells is affected by the limitation. So you can temporarily increase your Intelligence with potions for example to scribe spells and then cast them just fine afterwards. Also HLAs aren't affected at all.

I'm getting very confusing information from the threads here. Anyone knows if and how any strenght bonuses apply?

As Edwin can only learn 18 spells max, I got him to drink an int potion and learn more spells.

When the potion wore off, he went back to 18 int and kept the extra spells.

Is this as intended or considered cheating in any way? Such a great way to bypass the limit :D

Can someone help me get this thing to install correctly? I tried installing it to the BG2 EE install directory as well as my documents/portraits folder and neither seem to work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

New Enhanced Edition DLC NPC (What class/kit?)

Which class (kit) you want to be a possible new DLC NPC in BG2 Enhanced Edition. A pure class kitted or vanilla or a multiclass or dual class. Please explain.
Only 10 poll options are availible. As we already have Hexxat and Rasaad it would be fair to merge this 2 classes into one poll option if you're not pleased with them and want another thief or monk. Same for Mage\Sorcerer as we have Neera and Baeloth. "Pure Paladin" option only for a Lawfull Good NPCs, not like Dorn the Blackguard as we already have one.
Or vote for "Other" if you want to see a specific multi or dual class NPC or even a new classkit and explain your position.

New Enhanced Edition DLC NPC Final Conclusion (Add a new DLC NPC or not?)

The winners are:

1. Lawful Neutral Female Dwarfen Barbarian with a romance
2. Chaotic Neutral Male Halfling Bard with a romance
3. Neutral Female Elven Cleric without romance
:-)

According to the voting results in this polls:

Class/Kit
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/25158/new-enhanced-edition-dlc-npc-what-class-kit

1. Barbarian
2. Bard
3. Cleric

Race

Gender
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/25356/new-enhanced-edition-dlc-npc-4-what-gender

1. Female (With romance)
2. Male (With romance)
3. Female (No romance)

Or you can shuffle the 3 most popular poll options a bit and make them, lets say more logical.
Just an example!
1. Neutral Female Halfling Barbarian
2. Lawful Neutral Male Dwarfen Cleric
3. Chaotic Neutral Female Elven Bard
Or whatever you want.

So the final poll is about, do you actually want to see SUCH (one of three) a New Enhanced Edition DLC NPC according to the fans voting results? Or are there enough NPCs already in the game, please no more NPCs?
Since Overhaul/Beamdog declare themselves as they are doing everything for fans and about fans, so if there would be a chance to make a DLC or simply add a new NPC, like for example Baeloth was unexpectedly added to the first game, would you like to see ONE of SUCH NPCs in BG2EE as a DLC or whatever, according to this poll results?
What do you think? Please vote and comment.

Some thoughts.
4 things are clear:
1. Fans find more interesting to play with a romancable NPC (65%)
2. Fans want to see more Neutral alignet NPCs (57%)
3. Fans want to see more shorties (Dwarf and Halfling) in the game (38%)
4. Fans want to see a Barbarian class in the game (27%) - logical enough.

And according to this poll
http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/24785/best-enhanced-edition-npc
Neera and Dorn are fans favourites. (25% and 22%)
Even Baeloth (Easter Egg NPC) is as popular as the new BG2EE NPC Hexxat. (11% and 14%)
Rasaad is still very unpopular, even after BG2EE was released. (6%)

Actually it's a very helpfull information for the devs, I think.

And just for fun write in comments for what poll option you have voted in each poll about the New NPC?
For example my votes are:
Ranger / Elf / Neutral Evil / Female (With romance)

Dorn's romance and character development *MASSIVE SPOILERS*

$

ok, so i finished evil playthrough all the way to TOB with dorn, viconia, hexxat, korgan and edwin.

first let me say, i'm now officially disappointed. dorn is an interesting character with lot of potential but:

romance track is WAY too short.
in those 10 lovetalks or so, that take about four clicks to go through, there are one-two that perhaps offer some substantial information. dorn reveals no background (let's ignore the bg:ee since it is a separate game), no layers to his character (ironically, he even warns about this in one of his lovetalks) and almost no worthwhile thought beside his power obsessions.
this is also the greatest weakness i see: he is so very one-dimensional with his desires and seems incapable of thinking beyond acquisition of power (as opposed to possible applications, meanings and forms of power, if that simply must be all he thinks about) and slaughter (since there is no other stuff to talk about in their uneventful journeys, is there).
it almost looks like somebody has cut out additional content that should have been there and left only stuff that concern this side of his character. like it or not, evil or not, time and casual fillers are necessary to make something feel believable, as original romances in bg2 have shown. i also find the talk with fighting a bit odd- nothing to lead to it and there is no conclusion to it (not necessarily apology).
after having sex, there is no morning after-comment, which also seems very artificial.

in short, all the important details that signify intimacy or evolution of relationship are simply non-present. i understand dorn is evil and is intended for evil charnames, but if those two are to be THE dark couple there has to be some measure of trust, intimacy and character development or adaptation (again, not toward good alignment). i imagine such twisted couple with all their nuances would be a real treat for a writer.
like i mentioned before, because of the described lack of the motivation and characterization i do not see why those two are lovers beyond occasional sex or where the final proclamation of love even comes from.
i understand if you wanted to avoid therapy sessions and wanted to pronounce the confidence and his focused character but the problem is that you offered nothing in return. TOB has TWO love-talks for crying out loud, it simply ridiculous (not counting the gromnir warning and final talk).

next point-where are interjections? i counted a comment here or there in SOA,, still substantially less than original NPC's, many missed opportunities (like kangaxx, underdark kuo-toa altar and many more evil or otherwise themed encounters) but only two or three in TOB. He didn't notice a single thing in watchers keep, really disappointing. i will spare the rant how interjections make characters feel alive and such :/

in the end epilogues- non romanced version seems fine i think, romanced version and bhaalspawn is not a god is sad and bitter-tasting, i was hoping they could be rulers somewhere but it is what it is. what it bothers me is that there is no third epilogue for romanced dorn and ascension to goodhood, where some hint or mention of him becoming your proxy or something to that extent, since that such an overarching point those two times he actually talks in tob. (btw, the last talk before mellisan is really good, i wish for more things like that). epilogues also completely ignore his fallen or patronage status :/

i find more than occasional lack of voiced first line in lovetalks disturbing since first line is ALWAYS voiced, so integrations is not completely seamless.

so in terms of character interaction if he had more content than original paper thin npc's in bg, he now has comparable less than original bg2 npc's. unfortunatly it doesn't "even out" in my opinion. these are separate games with separate interaction mechanics.

on the other hand, quests are very well done, the one in TOB seems a bit simplistic (although saemon part is GREAT. i only wish there was a way to watch him get killed and knowing it was bhaalspawn who set him up. excellent addition). it was nice to see him obedient to ur-gothoz and plotting to get out of the deal.
it actually is nice to have some evil quests to do, and i understand the quests are a part of character content, although they cannot be considered a compensation for lack of the lovetalks.
dorn has a GREAT voice actor and some great lines. those few times that he is good, he shows a lot of potential as a really interesting, charismatic, focused character. i liked how serious and passionate he seemed at times, i really wish that was explored and played with. PC responses are at times simply great i really, really appreciate the humor there. great writing.
EDIT: just to mention i really wanted to enjoy it and i really did a lot in some places, but there is not enough to make it a completely satisfying experience.

so yeah, i'm complaining because in this state, dorn remains a very good, promising sketch for a character with nice quests and nice evil addition to the party. if you look for another party member he is all well and good, but as a romance interest... not so much, he is simply not up to existing romances. i suspect i hold unpopular opinion and am in the minority, but i needed to voice my thoughts on this since i invested so much mental energy into the forums and the game over this year and half. i had expectations so maybe it's my own fault for getting dissapointed in the end.

on the other hand, does anybody plan to do a mod with additional romance content and flirt packs for the new characters? maybe even add some of the talks from bg:ee to bg2:ee to make characters feel more realized? have developers thought to release character expansions?

Grand Mastery worth it?

My fighter has five points in Longswords and I am beginning to wonder if it's really that useful. Apparently it only gives you a slightly faster attack rate than is granted by High Mastery.

Should I try to haxx0r my char and spend that point for some other proficiency? If so, is there a way to edit him within an existing game?

The devs have been awfully quiet as of late! :D

Now that BG2EE is out, and the hype has died down, can we start speculating on "Adventure Y"?

What do you guys think it'll be? BG1EE or BG2EE content? New NPCs, or expanded SoA/ToB?

Discuss :)

Do you want BG3 to use the new 5th edition rules?

$

Since it seems like the 5th edition is going to be a mix of 4E rules and 2E rules, do you want BG3 to use 5th Edition? Also, do you want secret quest from book series like Myth Drannor, or even Cormanthor time jump before when the city first changed its name?

Lastly, how many classes do you want, every class they can cram, even Drow, Aasimar, or even Half-Dragon Kin(just a thought since I saw a cool on in IWD 2)?

What enemy scares you the most?

Throughout the series, which enemy chills your bones? Maybe it's because you always seem to have trouble beating them, because the first time you faced them they took you by surprise, because they're so hideous, or maybe you just have a phobia.

For me, it's the Illithid. They suck your brain out, their design is horrifying, and they're pretty hard to beat (at least for me). They just... give me the creeps.

Updating NPC portraits.

Question, considering all the fine work Nixxi has done with custom artwork for several NPCs, is there a quick and ez way to switch the portraits used in the game, or is it going to require updating things in EEkeeper?
