Formerly Alternate NPC and PC portraits... because I'm bored with no BG:EE to play. :P

Just as it says on the [former] title. I suffer for want of my game, so I'll make sure you'll suffer, you'll ALL suffer, MWAHHAHAHHA! And I'll do so with 'art'. As I am an avid fan of the BG2 portrait style, I'm trying for getting as close to it as I can, but, yeah, it's not exactly easy, and I'm no artist, so, you've been warned. I'm going to keep posting more pictures as I make 'em. Here is one new and a few you might have already seen posted on a different thread (put here just for the sake of completion). If after I'm done with all the BG1 NPC portraits BG:EE still isn't out, I'm gonna scar you all even more with my pet project - pictures of what would they all look like after putting on that innocent looking, unidentified magical girdle. ]:D
I'll start gently:

Alternate Viconia - features changed to fit more with what Jaheira's and Aerie's pics established as elvish features. Skin color changed because I like black drows better than blue drows (although from the description someone posted, the drow skin does have a purple or blue tone to it, so the original pic isn't wrong, per se, it just isn't to my taste). Cloak and sky color changed just because. :) Original to the left, tweaked version to the right, for sake of easy comparison.
image

My fav PC, Karrion - glued together from at least five different pictures - hopefully you won't be able see any of Frankenstain's Monster in him. ;)
image

Nathaniel, from the mod. I like this mod, but none of the available pictures were quite appealing enough for me, so I messed with the one I liked best and did this:
image

Lady Malica, the evil halfling. If you care to insult her, do remember - she has darts hidden all over her person, AND her teeth are level with your groin. ]:)
BG1picture edited to get rid of the green light, alter her expression and trim the ears a bit, then a lot of other stuff added. (From the character creation screen, halflings are supposed to 'look mostly like small humans', and it was said elsewhere on the board that they do not, in fact, have pointy ears, but... I like pointy ears! So she has them).
Original to the left, tweaked version to the right, for sake of easy comparison.

BIG FAT EDIT on 14.03.2013
Adding information on the first page for ease of finding it:
For those of you who want to use any of my portraits: I uploaded them to @TiaxRulesAll dropbox. (Read his thread http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8413/bgee-custom-portraits-dropbox-lets-compile-them-all-here-1300-sets-now-with-soundsets-section/p1 to learn how to get them). Folder with my pics is named 'Portraits (Syntia13)'. Below you'll find a chart with subtitled portraits - if you like one, go to the aforementioned dropbox and search the aforementioned folder for 3 files with names corresponding with the subtitle of your chosen pic. Have fun! :)

Help me decide who to take in my party - Korgan, create my own NPC or other

Last night I learned that the party composition that I had planned on using in BG2EE was not possible due to... differing viewpoints between two of the NPCs.

So now I have a dilemma in deciding who will fill my 6th and final party slot. This is an evil party, so I'm inclined to stick with like minded individuals, but a morally questionable chaotic neutral character might fit.

I have:
-PC - Dual Class Berserker 8/Cleric X
-Dorn
-Hexxat
-Viconia
-Edwin

I'm pretty sure that I want another arcane caster and a ranged/archer type character, as currently only Edwin is using ranged attacks regularly (the front lines start to get crowded).

I'm considering Korgan, as he definitely fits the bill for evil, but of course, he's a hardcore melee character. I suppose that I could switch Viconia to more of a ranged focus to balance this out, but I still end up with only one arcane caster.

Haer'dalis is another option I'm considering. He covers the backup arcane caster role, but his kit is very melee oriented also. Jan is pretty much right out, as his personality doesn't really fit this rather dark, brooding group and I just don't need a second thief.

Another option I'm considering is rolling up my own character. I'm considering something like a dual class fighter 7/mage X, with grandmastery in bow.

What would you all do in my position. I certainly welcome any well thought out comments and feedback!

Cursed Weapons

I've always wondered about cursed weapons, and how you can only unequip them with a remove curse spell. In practical terms (ie. not in video game mechanics), why wouldn't you be cursed just by picking up the weapon? What's the practical difference between picking it up and equipping it? For example, lets say there's a cursed sword on the ground. If you go and pick it up, you're not going to pick it up by the blade. You'd pick it up by the hilt. Wouldn't that already constitute as equipping it? Why is it in the game you only get cursed when you put it in the weapon slot and not when you pick it up?

I crashed during a quicksave and everything "soft" reset.

I will not be starting another game until this memory leak is fixed.

There are some bugs that can be tolerable and even understandable but this one, is not.

There's a lot of clicking to do before you can play

So, first I click on the icon. Then I click "Launch" in the launcher. Then I have to click "Shadows of Amn". Then I have to click to bypass the cinematic. Then I have to click "Continue" on the "new adventures" page. Then I have to click "single player". Then I have to click "Load game" (incidentally on the other side of the screen as well). Then finally I can click "load" and start playing.

Surely there could be a way of going directly into "Load Game"? Or perhaps even a button with "Continue playing" that loads the latest save game.

I've nitpicked about this before, but it's even worse now in BG2EE! Brilliant game otherwise of course :)

NPC stuck in Maze (may contain spoiler)

Right! I'm at the last mission of destroying the the vampire cult i.e. to get passage to Imoen. However I think I've encountered a bug where the MAze spell one of the mage vampires cast doesn't let my party member outside. Ones hexxat got stuck in limbo - reloaded and now Rasaad is stuck in a Maze.

Known bug? Any resolutions?

New characters in BG2

Do the new companions in BG2EE have much dialog with other companions and NPCs? Do they feel integrated with the world?

I don't want spoilers I just want to know if I should only use the new characters for their personal quests or if i should have them along all the time.

14 Constitution [BGII:EE Spoiler Alert!]

Anyone else notice that all of the new NPCs have a 14 CON? Is there some sort of numerological significance that I'm not quite picking up on here? As for Hexxat,
I'm surprised she has a CON score at all, since she's undead
Is there anyone else who hasn't bought it yet?

This forum is obviously full of people who would most likely buy it, but are there anyone who didn't buy it yet? I didn't buy it yet, and I want to see the reasonings of other people who didn't as well.

Aside from the NPC / New Areas, I don't really have a big incentive to drop $25 (some other people might consider this amount 'little'. As for me, I have a ton of student debt, and I don't need to drop $20, $40 which add up QUICK)
I love how the new UI looks, don't give a damn about Black Pits, really glad they added quality NPCs, but what else is there?

Looking at complaints and other websites (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/67844725 btw, I didn't post in that thread, there also seems to be game-breaking bugs at the moment: re-load = disappeared enemies)

The originals with patches were incredibly incredibly stable, but 2EE should be forgiven because it just came out.

The one huge thing I had hopes were for, were the developers fixing the kit problems "shapeshifter bugs, grandmastery bugs" or new kits, or HLAs, or at least higher level support for the kits they made in 1EE like Dragon Disciple and Sun Soul Monk

Obviously I'm a HUGE fan of the BG series but what incentives are there for veterans like me to purchase it? To those of you who HAVE bought it, what do you think the game did that really set itself apart from the originals?

Rabbit's Run, Spoilers!

Rabbit's Run II
Being the journal of Rabbit, a Dragon Disciple Sorcerer, sworn to poverty

BGIIEE, opening stats, after doing BGIEE, all of the TOTSC part of the game
Rabbit: Level 12 Dragon Disciple, Human, 19/19/21/19/11/16 Lawful Neutral.
You may be wondering how I came about these Godlike stats? Two things that I allowed myself to acquire in the way of 'material things' in BG1, was a thirst for a companion, a familiar, whom I seem to have misplaced during my abduction. The second, was a thirst for knowledge, and, I did read every Tome I came across. This is how I came to have these stats, and the fact that Dragons acquire Con points as we go along. Now, I am not going to go into what my spell selection has been, if you are interested, you can look at 'Rabbit's Run', in the BGIEE general discussion thread.....

Rabbit's Run, Irenicus' Dungeon

I awoke to find myself being tortured by some Bastard of a Mage. It seemed to have been going on for some time. I was powerless, spent, with no way to defend myself, in a cage. He eventually left, and, along came Imoen, my old friend from the 'Keep, who released me. I have no desire to travel with her, and turned her loose. I slept to recharge my spells, and grabbed a Quarterstaff, and got out of there. I basically killed every enemy on the first floor, got the Acorns for the Nymphs, and freed Irenicus' Djinni slave. On up to the next level, I blasted the Mephit Portals with Melf's Meteors after casting Mislead., and beat feet out the Dungeon, into the bright sunshine of Athkatla.
Here, I find both Imoen and Irenicus having a discussion, and they flung a couple of spells at each other, bringing in some 'Cowled Enforcers'. They didn't have much luck bringing Irenicus down, but, in an interesting ploy, he let them take him, as long as they took Imoen with him.... and so they did. I wonder what he is up to, I would like to ask some questions of him as to why he was torturing the Hell out of me. Something to do with my lineage, I suspect.
Just like that, I am alone in a strange land.

BG2EE: Rasaad's quest (Spoilers)

So I've met Rasaad in Trademeet and nothing happens - where does his quest to infiltrate the heretics starts exactly?

I used all tomes on my PC. Can I re-import the char and play again to boost stats for bg2ee?

Is there a 'cap' on stats when I import a character into bg2ee?

Lets say I want to play BG EE one or two more times, with a single character all the time (for boosting stats before playing BG2EE). Or maybe just run to the tomes of CON and CHA (that are pretty easy to run for with a lvl8 PC in early game) and reimport? Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

What are some of your nice "Hey! That's new!" moments in BG2EE? (VERY MINOR SPOILERS)

Ok, so the first totally new thing I noticed after entering Athkatla proper was that very untalkative bouncer in front of a door at Waukeen's Promenade. I still have no idea how to get past him, and I don't want anyone to tell me.

What are some of the new additions you have noticed on the maps? Any obviously new doors, characters etc? I am not interested in quest content, simply the stuff that immediately or almost immediately shows.

It's looking very very good so far.

Top 5 NPCs, and bottom 5 NPCs! best party combos

$

When I first played BG back in the beginning of the century, I was primarily concerned with getting the strongest party together to kick the most butt.
This time through, I want to spend more time with as many NPCs as deserve it.

Who are your fav 5 NPCs to travel with, and who are your least fav 5?

Their effectiveness in game matters, but I am more concerned with who had a good quest, has good interparty dialogue, and who you look forward to traveling with again. I also want to know who you think the coolest party combos are.

(you can certainly have more than a top or bottom 5, I am just throwing out a number to get the ball rolling.)

I am familiar with CRPG mechanics enough to be confident I can succeed without concerns for party strength, and I know some of you on here know every little bit about this game, so this is a good opportunity for you to school some of us on some hidden gems in this game.
