How do YOU use Level 1 NPCs?

Just curious as to some of the ways people use/have used the Level 1 NPC mod. It doesn't matter if it one that makes sense or is entirely silly.

One of the more plain ones I often do is change Nalia from a Thief>Mage to a Fighter>Mage. It gives her a different role to fill than Imoen and is one I can easily justfiy, as it makes sense that Lord De'Arnise would want his daughter to be capable in combat.

The silliest one I have done is turning Xzar into a berserker. I didn't really have any justification for that one, I just wanted to hear his battle cries more often.

Nashkel Inn Commoner Attack

Sort of similar to this thread: https://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/14226/commoner-damaging-neira-in-nashkel-s-inn

Each time I enter the inn, a commoner sitting at the bar is showing up as an enemy. Why I cannot say? They don't attack me but some of my party will instantly kill them if I enter the Inn. I have tried charming and talking to the commoner to no avail. I can't use the inn unless I want to lose 10 reps for killing off the commoner. Any other solutions or should I avoid the inn altogether?

Halfling Throwing Weapons Bonus?

They get bonus to slings and darts. What about throwing daggers and throwing axes? I have a halfling fighter/thief I plan to play through the whole series. Originally I was going to do darts and daggers and then katana and duel wield, but realized getting proficiences at only every three fighter levels that I won't get enough points. Then I thought, what if they get bonus to throwing daggers like they do darts?

Soundset v. Personality

I've always felt like Imoen's soundset in BG2 doesn't fit her personality. In the first game, she's cheerful, carefree, adventurous. In BG2, her plot-dialogue is dark - and rightfully so. After being tortured by Irenicus (and having her soul stolen), she is fascinated with death and has a pretty grim outlook. And yet, her soundset is still pretty cheery.

When selecting her, she'll respond with the normal "Yep" or "What'cha want?" Not as bright as in BG1, but not very grim, either. Her idle banter, she'll even say something like how she missed adventuring with CHARNAME because she forgot how fun it was. After she had her soul stolen. Seems silly to me. She could have had two soundsets like Edwin. Not a big deal, of course. Just always jumped out at me.

Any others strike anyone?

Worst thing you've done to an NPC

What's one of the worst thing's you've done to an NPC? You know, leave Imoen in Spellhold (don't deny it, you wanted to leave her at least once), ask Maple Willow Aspen about her parents' tree fixation, that sort of thing.

Strictly referring to BG:EE.

I know paladins and rangers are capped at level 8.

Are fighters/barbarians able to reach at least level 9?

Sorcerer Or Mage?

I've recently completed Baldur's Gate for the second time (Once as Fighter, Once as Thief) and I want to start my evil play through as a magic character, however I rarely used magic before and want to know which is better, Mage (Or one of it's kits) or Sorcerer (or again, one of the kits). I am leaning towards Sorcerer but I've heard rumours that the Stat build for Sorcerer is broken and completely different from the Mage. If any vets of Baldur's Gate could give some tips, it would be very appreciated.

The 75 roll No-Reload/No Resurrection Challenge

Not sure how much interest there will be in this but I'm throwing it out there nonetheless!!!

RULES
- You must use a non-edited roll of 75
- You can re-roll as many times as you like
- You may not min/max any stats or edit any abilities at all
- You may not resurrect any party members
- Core rules
- Update your progress in this thread, whether it be death or success!
- Try to roleplay your character as much as possible :)
- Have fun

I'll start with Gwen, an Elven Priestess of Talos although I don't know how long she will live with her crippling low dexterity lol. She can barely equip herself and nearly takes her half an hour to do so. I took her first roll of 75, updates to come in the near future

Alternate NPC and PC portraits... because I'm bored while waiting for more patches to come out. :P

Formerly Alternate NPC and PC portraits... because I'm bored with no BG:EE to play. :P

Just as it says on the [former] title. I suffer for want of my game, so I'll make sure you'll suffer, you'll ALL suffer, MWAHHAHAHHA! And I'll do so with 'art'. As I am an avid fan of the BG2 portrait style, I'm trying for getting as close to it as I can, but, yeah, it's not exactly easy, and I'm no artist, so, you've been warned. I'm going to keep posting more pictures as I make 'em. Here is one new and a few you might have already seen posted on a different thread (put here just for the sake of completion). If after I'm done with all the BG1 NPC portraits BG:EE still isn't out, I'm gonna scar you all even more with my pet project - pictures of what would they all look like after putting on that innocent looking, unidentified magical girdle. ]:D
I'll start gently:

Alternate Viconia - features changed to fit more with what Jaheira's and Aerie's pics established as elvish features. Skin color changed because I like black drows better than blue drows (although from the description someone posted, the drow skin does have a purple or blue tone to it, so the original pic isn't wrong, per se, it just isn't to my taste). Cloak and sky color changed just because. :) Original to the left, tweaked version to the right, for sake of easy comparison.
image

My fav PC, Karrion - glued together from at least five different pictures - hopefully you won't be able see any of Frankenstain's Monster in him. ;)
image

Nathaniel, from the mod. I like this mod, but none of the available pictures were quite appealing enough for me, so I messed with the one I liked best and did this:
image

Lady Malica, the evil halfling. If you care to insult her, do remember - she has darts hidden all over her person, AND her teeth are level with your groin. ]:)
BG1picture edited to get rid of the green light, alter her expression and trim the ears a bit, then a lot of other stuff added. (From the character creation screen, halflings are supposed to 'look mostly like small humans', and it was said elsewhere on the board that they do not, in fact, have pointy ears, but... I like pointy ears! So she has them).
Original to the left, tweaked version to the right, for sake of easy comparison.

BIG FAT EDIT on 14.03.2013
Adding information on the first page for ease of finding it:
For those of you who want to use any of my portraits: I uploaded them to @TiaxRulesAll dropbox. (Read his thread http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8413/bgee-custom-portraits-dropbox-lets-compile-them-all-here-1300-sets-now-with-soundsets-section/p1 to learn how to get them). Folder with my pics is named 'Portraits (Syntia13)'. Below you'll find a chart with subtitled portraits - if you like one, go to the aforementioned dropbox and search the aforementioned folder for 3 files with names corresponding with the subtitle of your chosen pic. Have fun! :)

Druids

$

I wanted to get some opinions on this. Do you guys think Druids were just..... neglected in this series? They are downright terrible in Vanilla BG1, and only slightly improved in BG2. Yes they have a few excellent spells (insect line of spells, nature's beauty, Greater Elemental summoning, etc) but far fewer than clerics. I'm only bringing this up because of how much of a blast they are to play in Icewind Dale 1. Another 2nd ed infinity engine game that, for some reason, was able to implement Druids exceedingly well.

So what I'm asking is: Is it just me? Do you guys also feel they were "neglected"? Or do you think there was a purpose to Bioware's madness? :)

Baldur's Gate rights?

Did Atari sell the rights so that work could continue on bgee or not?

Which one did you play first and which do you prefer?

There seems to be a divide among members over which game they prefer and I get the impression that this largely depends on which game they played first. Personally , I love BG1, which I played first, but am far less enamoured of BG2 (which I played second for those of you finding it hard to keep up)

So, what about the rest of you? Which game did you start with and which do you prefer?

How long would you survive?

So if you were Gorion's ward, how far do you think you would get in the adventure before the creepy music started and all the flesh was blown off your upraised hand?

I figure I would do okay with the fetching and carrying in Candlekeep and would survive the attacks from Carbos and Shank (because I'd run a mile as soon as I saw them). I would, however, miss out on 5GP because I couldn't clear out Reevor's storehouse (scared of rats)

Having seen Gorion killed I would probably be a gibbering wreck but the sight of Imoen would cheer me up and make me attempt to be brave. Unfortunately, I have no sense of direction (and being a man do not ask for directions when I am lost) so I doubt I would find my way to the Friendly Arm Inn. I dare say Imoen would know which road to follow but by this point I would be putting on my decisive big brother act and I would assure her I knew where I was going. So we would end up in High Hedge where I figure I will either get killed by a knife-throwing skeleton or the gnoll who stole Perdue's sword.

So that's me. Dead before I even get to level up. How far would you get?

So, is BGEE dead?

Title says it all. Is BGEE dead? Should I just go back to my GoG versions of BG1 and 2?

A shame.

I purchased BG1, ToSC, BG2, and ToB, when they were first released, and still have all the original boxes, disks, receipts, and everything, and I supported the BGEE project from the moment I first heard about it.

Advice for playing as a kensai?

$

I had seen people on here talking about how powerful a kensai is (or has the potential to be), so I thought about trying one on my next playthrough. However, the prospect of playing as a tank fighter who can't wear armor or use shields is strange to say the least.

I had originally intended to do my next playthrough as a dual-wielding fighter, but it would seem more prudent to use one weapon and put 2 points into single weapon style for the extra AC bonus.

Does anyone have any tidbits of wisdom to offer?

Dismissing/re-recruiting player made NPCs

$

Having played BG1 several times before (a long time ago), I'm thinking about starting a new game using only pre-gen MP chars in SP mode.

However, as I understand that many quests are started by the in-game NPCs, I am concerned that I'll miss out on quests if I run a full 6-man pre-gen party.

If I were to do this, is there a way where I can dismiss 1-2 of my pre-gen chars to invite the game NPCs, just to start (and complete I guess) the related quests, and then re-invite my pre-gens? If possible, where do they go once dismissed? Stay in the same place I left them?

Thanks in advance.
