Struck by lightning, twice!

$
0
0
My fighter/mage just got *twice* struck by lightning (from the weather, not a spell) on the Valley of the Tombs map within the space of about a minute in real time, she was wearing plate mail at the time - 25 points damage each hit, though luckily she had 50 HP and Viconia managed to cast Cure Medium Wounds in-between! Never had that happen before (not twice, anyway), though I could see the funny side!

It's the Subtle Things

The designers do clever things and they do them while wondering if the players will ever pick up on them! If you have played through the game a few times, and have picked up on something subtle, discuss it here!

SPOILERS!

I played through the game dozens of times and just recently I noticed that Perdue, the cowardly halfling (I say he's chicken!) never paid me the 50 gold!! He said, "Enjoy your 50 gold". And that's it. I get the XP, but he never forks over the loot for recovering his sword! I laughed at how many times I overlooked this. And I laughed again after I killed him for the 50g. :)

At the Nashkel Fair, there is a thief named Viltaire that walks up and robs you as soon as you enter the gambling tent! Just outside that tent there is ALWAYS a little boy staring at that tent. One time I figured I wanted to know what he had to say, and I got the usual generic response, "Momma says, 'Never talk to strangers.'". Well okay, I get the hint, kill the thief before he talks to you and gets away with your loot! Subtle hint, but since that kid is static, it's a deliberate hint.

Atari Asks To Keep Control Of Ch. 11 Case For Extra 60 Days

Some Atari news for anyone else who wants to track it (unfortunately I can't get the full article):

http://www.law360.com/articles/463221/atari-asks-to-keep-control-of-ch-11-case-for-extra-60-days

Law360, New York (August 07, 2013, 3:34 PM ET) -- Atari Inc. on Tuesday asked a New York bankruptcy judge to give the company another 60 days to keep control of its Chapter 11 case, saying it won’t be able to meet a fast-approaching deadline to file a reorganization or liquidation plan.

The U.S. branch of French holding firm Atari SA recently obtained court approval of its bid to sell off its assets piece by piece, which Atari said represented the best opportunity to maximize asset value for the benefit of all stakeholders. In its motion...

Valygar's armor and katana after changing him to Archer?

Any idea why he can't use his equipement after becoming an Archer (with help of ShadowKeeper)?

I've looked up the items in IIEP, and by making the armor and blade usable by all alternatives there is there, Valygar may now use them. But at least the armor was already usable by all three ranger kits...

Baldur's Gate II - Serious Roleplaying Question (Spoilers)

$

Okay, I'll preface this by saying I'm a rubbish gamer, my tactics are pretty much on-the-fly and I'm the screw it up. reload queen (yeah yeah, if anyone wants to teach me how to do this properly feel free) but the joy I get from playing this game is actually RPing it to the best of my abilities so I'm wondering how everyone justifies dropping Minsc and Jaheira from their parties before rescuing Imoen.

The way I see it, aside from Charname these two characters are Immy's continuity and if you're seriously RPing this game, given what she goes through she's going to want to see some familiar faces when you finally liberate her from Spellhold so how do you justify dumping them before you get there (especially when both of them both have very good reasons for revenge - Khalid & Dynaheir).

Rashad the healer

Obvious spoilers about the end part of the game in Baldur's Gate.
Read at your own risk!

I like the end game part in the game, where you are wanted by Flaming fists, and have many things to do in the grand city:it can actually be all over the place, and it is fun. You can talk to Tamoko about Sarevok and his plans, failing that, there are a lot of minor characters that try to give you hints. Hussam the Shadow thief, some friendly Flaming fists, and there is a Harper agent named Delthyr. Everyone tells you that Scar is dead, Entar is killed, Eltan is sick and dying and his healer Rashad can't help (which is odd), there are suspicious things going on Iron Throne, and Sarevok is making it big:attempting to become a duke. From there, you can go to Iron throne building to confront Sarevok's girl Cythandria, go to Flaming fists to rescue Eltan from Rashad who is actually a doppelganger, go to Blushing mermaid to kill Sarevok's assasins, then with all the evidence go stop the coronation of Sarevok etc. While avoiding flaming fists all the time!

The Harper agent Delthyr says you can find him in Three Kegs inn later, I went there and talked to him again, he said Rashad is suspicious and he leeaves the building every night, that we should follow him to see where he goes. Now, I always infiltrate Flaming fist using invisibility/stealth and confront Rashad that way. Can you really find Rashad leaving at night and follow him to unmask his treachery like Delthyr suggests? If so, how? I never did that and wondered if that was possible.

Do you accept Koveras' ring? (Spoilers)

Barbarian vs. Dwarven Defender

I actually joked about making a thread like this a month ago. I couldn't find one so I figured I'd make a thread for it.

So what does everyone think? (Ignoring the current axe bug with the Dwarven Defender and the dexterity bug with Dwarves in general) Which do people prefer and why?

The One Thing That Vexed Me The Most About BG1...

The plot exposition is *terrible.*

Specifically, chapter 6. Your lineage is explained to you in a letter that is easily missable, and that in fact is impossible to get if you choose to kill the primary antagonists of the game at that point. Like, why could they not have just had Tethoril come to you in prison and say "Oh, hey man, Gorion left you this letter" if it wasn't already in your inventory. That seems like a really easy fix.

I displeased cromwell...

I stole from cromwell early in the game by charming him and then stealing his stuff right in front of him, and now whenever I try to visit him he calls the cops on me. I am quite (Yes, quite) far into the game and I don't want to do everything all over again. Any way that this can be remedied without me going to a save before I stole from him? (Hehe)

Please, don't make Baldur's Gate 3

Based on the added content alone to the EE I honestly don't think that the studio has the chops to give us Baldurs Gate 3. I read on a gamespot news article that Baldur's Gate 3 is very possible, and I think it would be a shame and a travesty to let this glorious IP sink to this kind of low.

Yes I really don't have faith that the developers can bring us a Baldurs Gate 3 - we'd all expect something even better than Baldurs Gate 2. With this developer, I really don't see that as a possibility. Not to mention Baldurs Gate 2 and 1 were built on an engine created over a decade ago. I don't want Baldurs Gate 3 to fall into the hands of a studio too scared to try something new, or too poor to bring a Dragon Age Origins kind of graphical experience.

I want Baldurs Gate 3 to be a next gen game, something epic, not a title crippled and mired to an outdated engine thanks to its predecessors, and unable to get the love it deserve because the current devs are too poor.

It's a great IP, and if they are able to make Baldurs Gate 3, I don't expect anything but a cash grab off an exploit of everyone's nostalga and trust in the brand.

Quick question. I'm creating a paladin that focus is two handed swords. I'm debating about my secondary weapon being bastard/long sword or mace. Is there any monsters that you have to have a blunt for in bg 1? I know there are the clay golems in bg2. R

Thanks!!!

I'm playing the BG2 for the 3rd time and I'm Role playing a Paladin. I'm already at Chapter 2 and I have to decide to side with the Shadow Thieves or the Vampires. I heard there was a mod that allows you to side with the Athkatla city watch but I'm having trouble finding it. I'd appreciate it if someone gave me a link of where I can look for this mod

The Tales of Sima Jin - A Noober's Journey in BG 2 (Let's Play Series)

Hey guys,

Having uploaded 25 hours of gameplay, and recorded about 30 more so far, I am finally confident enough that, barring unforseen circumstances, I will be able to actually finish my first ever attempt of recording a 'Let's Play' series.

This is my first playthrough of BG 2, inspired by the master storyteller, 'Tord' of the Youtube Channel, 'mynameisnotlilly'. As a complete noobie to Let's Plays and BG 2, my first few sessions were pretty shaky, but I feel like I am learning and improving in both regards, and will now try to share/publicise my efforts a bit more. Hopefully a few of you will find it interesting/entertaining, perhaps reminiscing about your own 'first time' with BG 2 ;)

My Let's Play is the complete opposite to the only other active Let's Play on this forum (that I am aware of). Whereas 'zur312' is obviously a veteran powergaming silently through a heavily modded game that jacks up the difficulty, I am a BG 2 noobie roleplaying blindly (and not silently) through the Vanilla experience at 'Core-rules' difficulty. Whereas he only uploads the highlights from his journey, I am uploading every minute of mine to retain a complete record of my first adventure.

Anyways enough fluff, more details can be found in my original post below, and also on my youtube channel. Here's some handy links :)

My original post:
[spoiler]
This is my first full playthrough of BG 2, and also my first attempt to record a Let's Play of any game, inspired by the master storyteller, 'Tord' of the Youtube Channel, 'mynameisnotlilly'.

Sadly I do not share his talent for roleplay or his radio-ready voice, so I do not promise any quality or level of expertise, either with regards to gaming or narration. In periods, it basically becomes 'Let's watch this noob play BG 2 whilst thinking out loud.'

I am now recording primarily for my own enjoyment, so that I will be better motivated to remain faithful to roleplay and so that I can look back on what I am sure will be an epic journey through the great city of Athkatla and Empire of Amn beyond. If anyone else might be interested in following my trials and tribulations, then I will steadily upload my adventures onto Youtube.

Oh yeah, I am playing BG 2 Vanilla, with the only installed mod being the BG 2 Fixpack (Corefixes only) from http://www.gibberlings3.net/

I would regard my run as 'semi-blind'. With the exception of the very beginning of the game, I have no idea what to expect. I have avoided all walkthroughs/guides, but I have read the Manual that comes with the download from GOG, and I also use the following resources to help me in my journeys:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/11334
http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/faqs/13870

Oh and of course I've sought guidance on this forum. But always in a non-spoiler-ish and specific way.

Must see! - A single bard crushes Sarevok and his crew

The person who made this video believed that the bard was the most powerful class in BG, and to illustrate his point he did a solo run as a vanilla bard.

There are 8 parts to his solo run, but I love re-watching his final battle with Sarevok. He makes it look so easy. In the comments of his vid, he admits to making some mistakes (like trying to use wands after casting protection from magic on himself), but overall it is still a very impressive performance IMO.

lets buy BG!
