Find Traps spell. Does it work?

$

Hi all.

It's my first time playing Baldur's Gate (Original Version) and I have some doubts regarding the Find Traps spell.

The female thief who accompanies you from the beginning has exploded in a trap with no revive chance and I was confident that Jaehira and my cleric would cover the traps issue with their spells.

But now I'm in Ulcaster and when I have the Find Traps spell activated none of them actually detects any trap.

Upon further testing, it seems that they only detect the traps if I cast the spell right next to the trap.
Is this correct? If it is then why they do that find traps ritual for a while after casting the spell?

P.S.: Please, take care with spoilers!

When Barding

Wizard Slayer -> Thief

Thinking of making a wizard slayer that will later be dualed to thief for UAI. I can't decide when to dual though. Should I wait until 13 for the extra 1/2 attack since thieves level rather quickly? Or will it take to long to be worth it and should just dual at 7 or 9? By the way, I won't be soloing. Never tried a fighter -> thief dual class, and though I would like to dual at 13, don't think it's worth it if I have to spend almost the entirety of SoA to get my WS levels back.

Are the druid high level abilities (elemental summon and transformer) useful at all?

I'm debating my next bgee run through as avenger or ranger/cleric.bi was just wondering of that Hla are that usefully.

Hello i'm new to this site and since i'm enjoying playing Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition, I visited here for help cause i'm upset about a certain problem. My characters are stuck on 161,000 exp and can't get farer than that. Is there a patch or fix I can get to fix this problem? THANKS.

How best to enjoy BG?

Hi all,

I have played through Baldur's Gate about a dozen times since it's release, having added on two play throughs with the Enhanced Edition. But, I find myself always taking the same route, grabbing the same companions, and completing the same quests. There is a certain comfort in knowing where to go and having a set game plan. But, I am finding myself in a bit of a rut. What have you all done to enjoy Baldur's Gate after you've mastered the explorative side?

Changing alignment drastically seems like one solid option, but I have struggled with playing 'Evil' effectively. I suppose I want to recapture those feelings I had when I was first going through it. It's become somewhat formulaic now.

Any tips would be appreciated as I try to milk more fun out of this terrific game.

Who would play each NPC in Baldur's Gate: The movie?

I had a quick search and couldn't seem to find if this thread had all ready been done, so here goes nothing.

Who would everyone cast as the recruitable NPCs in all of the Baldur's Gate games if they were made into full blown big budget Hollywood motion pictures?

While we're at it, why not mention any other characters you'd like to cast from the Saga?

Dragon Disciple and Armor spell

I'm trying to figure out how much benefit the Armor spell would be to my Dragon Disciple long-term.

My character started out with AC 5, because of -4 from Dex and -1 from Dragon Disciple bonus. When I cast Armor, it does down to AC 1, which is consistent with the spell description that the Armor spell is cumulative with Dex, and with shields. It's also apparently cumulative with class bonuses. So, is Armor always a flat -4 reduction of AC, regardless of other effects?

For example, as I gain AC bonuses from certain robes and other non-shield equipment, will Armor still remove an additional -4, or will it start to get redundant? Remember my AC will be continuing to drop with additional -1 AC bonuses from Dragon Disciple levels, which I assume will continue to be cumulative with the Armor bonus.

Thanks for any answers!

I am looking for some variety in my next playthrough... 'Versatile' is the keyword :) Normally I play as multiclass fighter/thief, mage/thief or fighter/mage. I prefer not too OP, and no duel-class. Any suggestion for next playthrough?

GameBanshee update on current situation

With the devs still on radio silence, we have to make due with whatever information comes our way.

GameBanshee has received new information pertaining to the Enhanced Edition project. Of note:

Apparently Beamdog hasn't paid Atari the royalties that they were owed, which led the publisher to ask them to pull the title from their services, and delay both Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition's patch and the release of the sequel's remastering.

Bear in mind, this is an unconfirmed report: a source within the industry provided it on condition of anonymity, Atari has not commented, and Trent Oster is still going with "We're working on it".

If true, though, it casts recent events in a completely different light, and - in my eyes - severely damages Beamdog's credibility...

What's one of the worst thing's you've done to an NPC? You know, leave Imoen in Spellhold (don't deny it, you wanted to leave her at least once), ask Maple Willow Aspen about her parents' tree fixation, that sort of thing.

Will Rasaad be great in Baldurs Gate 2?

I mean, when you get good gear to cancel out his starting score, and how monks have great magic resistance with higher levels (and you can level a lot in BG2/TOB) and fast speed.
Better so then Minsc? what do you guys think? I mean, since Khalid is gone, I kind of want to carry over a guy from BG1 like Minsc or Rasaad. Now sure, Minsc beserk with 2h was insane, but after that? Now I was 14 last time I played BG2 in 2000, but I dont remember him being superb either.

When I was 14 I thought Minsc was hilarious, a guy hit in the head very hard a few times until he thought his hamster boo was a real warrior and companion - however, a few years later and his comical character isnt that funny to me ;) However, I do remember Minsc being a "good" 2h warrior and could use the bow as well.
And yes, I finished BG2 with Minsc in my party so he def doesnt suck at all.

Druid concept help

Character concept

Based off a druid kit/idea of the oaken brotherhood (quarterstaff expert). It is a druid with a little more hand to hand ability. I feel the druid is kind a one trick pony (iron skins and swarm spells).
I am not a huge fan of multi class esp with the huge druid curve. What would be the best level to dual class from 7,9,13 fighter. I know I will have to wait for bg2 for the level 13. I am wanting a spell caster focus with a little extra hand to hand ability with a staff and spear. I know the tomes are something to think about also.

Can someone explain Grand Mastery to me?

$
0
0
I have looked at both BG1 and 2 regarding grand mastery and just can't figure it out. Some people say 1 got it right, others say 2.

I am playing through ToB right now and both my characters use two-handed swords +5, both are wearing boots of speed.

One is a Paladin with ** in two-handed swords, his sheet says he has 3 attacks per round.
The other is a Fighter with ***** in two-handed swords, he also has 3 attacks per round.

Surely the fighter shold have more attacks per round than the paladin?

At the bottom of the sheet, under weapon style bonus both read:

Damage +1
Critical +1
Speed -4

Can someone explain this please?

Sorcerer versus Wild Mage: which is most fun?

$
0
0
Which class do you think is more fun, the sorcerer or wild mage? And why?

I find these two classes to be the most appealing for single-class arcane casters (though I'm also fond of illusionists and dragon disciples).

The sorcerer has the convenience of being able to cast anything he knows without preparation, and can cast many spells per day. However, he can only know a limited number of spells (though items and scrolls can compensate partially for that).

The wild mage gets the extra spell/day of a specialist mage but with no restricted school, and so can learn every spell there is, and cast those spells pretty frequently. Wild surges generally seem fun ... except when they get you killed (which, admittedly, is rare). A bit of unpredictability can be fun! (Especially the fifth time one wanders out of Candlekeep...)
