Multiclass Shorty Saving Throws/Health Question

$

Hey guys! Starting a Fighter/Cleric Dwarf Multiclass, and I had a question about my starting constitution. I created him with these stats. Yes, it took a long time to roll them, lol.

Strength-18/00
Dexterity-17
Constitution-19
Intelligence-3
Wisdom-18
Charisma-16

So, I know you get +5 to spells/death/wand with the shorty saving throws bonus at 18-25 CON, right? My question is, if I use the Manual of Bodily Health (+1 to CON), and get to 20 CON; can I then equip the Claw of Kazgorath, and be at 18 CON, thus still retaining the + 5 bonus AND my normal health?

I know Warriors get +4 health per level at 18 con, and all other classes stop getting bonuses at 16 con right? But I don't know how it works with a multiclass with both warrior and priest mechanics. And to add to the confusion, is the manual and claw.

Thank you so much for any insight into this!

Almost forgot, I am okay with the + 2 to death/poison/paralyze from the claw, mostly worried about the shorty throws, and the health per level. Thanks again guys.

Branwen weapon?

I am running a Ranger/Cleric protagonist with Branwen as healer. She has reached level 4 and I need to spend a weapon pip. Since my R/C has Mace/Warhammer/Flail what should I give her? Maybe staff for the Staff mace but isn't that acquired late in the game?

Party is:
R/C
Minsc
Branwen
Ajantis (to be replaced by Coran when I dual Imoen)
Imoen (going to dual to mage)
Dynaheir

P.S.- I have no one to use staves unless maybe Coran likes them…I don't know.

Are short swords really better than long swords for back-stabbing?

I've been wondering, ignoring any specific magic weapon bonuses, whether short swords really are better than long swords for back-stabing, as seems commonly suggested. Yes, short swords are faster, but long swords (especially magic ones) are not that slow, and does speed really matter that much for back-stabbing?

It's true that in some cases there's perhaps more chance your target will move away before you make contact, but often, at least for your *initial* attack, your opponent is rooted in spot, until you're spotted. I guess it's more of an issue if you stealth again once combat has started (either by running away and hiding again, or using Invisibility somehow) and wish to make another backstab, though - is this the main reason in favour of short swords?

It's just that, as well as doing 1-8 damage, instead of 1-6 damage, long swords are slashing weapons, which are less affected by heavy armour than piercing and there's less enemies immune to slashing damage than piercing. Also, there are more good magic long swords than short swords. especially in BG2 (though Kundane in BG2, with its extra attack, is nice).

Opinions?

The Avenger Druid...

Hey all,

I am once again planning to try another class (before completing the game of course... Can't break the habit) and I wanted to try something really different and that is when I turned my gaze to the Avenger druid...
The class seems really different from anything I've played before since it is some kind of mix between Mage/priest/Fighter(?)/shapeshifter.
So I have a few questions if you all would be so very kind and helpful to answer them :)

First a simple or maybe hard question:
How is the class/kit? Is it fun? Is it easy/hard to play as?

Second question, what kind of armor can the Avenger use?
In the description it says that they can only use leather armor but what armors count as leather armor? I did some quick testing and saw that studded leather does apparently not count as leather armor? Bug?
What are some good armors (and trinkets etc.) that I can use? And if you know, where can I find them?

And lastly, What kind of weapon would be good for an Avenger?
Does good weapon damage add up to the damage of your shapeshifted form? Does extra effects from weapons add to it? Does shapeshift attacks count as +1,+2 etc? Or to clarify can I still hit enemies with protection from normal weapons or magical for that matter?

And a followup: If I were to use the dagger of venom, would my spider/salamander/wyvern form get the extra poison damage?

I have played a lot of baldurs gate before bgee but I always played kind of without really thinking about what I did so if someone could help me to their their hard earned trial and error experience I would be very grateful :)

Thanks!

Ps. For roleplaying, what is a good god for the Avenger druid?

Ideas for a Movie

I don't know how this idea came to me but i guess school is that boring half the time I am just daydreaming in my classes. I had this idea of what If there was a Baldur`s Gate movie I tried to think charters that would be appropriate like a team that would fit well together. Also i thought of actors who would play these charters here are my ideas

Narrator. Morgan Freeman ( Love his voice)
Gorion. Anthony Hopkins or Ian McKellen ( I think both these guys would be wise wizards / good Father figures)
Sarevok. Dwayne Johnson ( lol i don't know why)

Group
Main. character Chris Hemsworth ( Young strong tall he would make a good fighter plus hes Thor)
Imoen. Scarlett Johansson ( Young beautiful good actor liked her role as black widow i think it would be a good choice.
Minsc. Tom Hardy ( If he can pull off Bane he can do this)
Edwin. Robert Downey Jr ( He can pull off a mean attitude and be a jerk like Edwin but being awesome at the same time)
Viconia. Marion Cotillard ( She could pull of a drow voice )
Kivan. Viggo Mortensen ( loved him in Lord of the rings and i think he could pull this off again)

Music. Hans Zimmer

Do you like this list? if not put your ideas down you don't need to go into full detail but if you want go ahead i like to see what you guys think of this.

Just wondering what's on some people's wishlists for the next installment. About all I've got off the top of my head is maybe a couple tweaks to make archers/bounty hunters still relevant come ToB time, maybe some new arrows/ HLA trap that only BH's get. Not very creative I know.

Create your favorite 4 member party for BG:EE

I can't help but wonder if the party I am currently using is perhaps the most versatile and fun group I've ever assembled.

My protagonist (Groeg) is a dual-classed bounty hunter(6) turned mage. His skills are focused on finding, removing, and setting traps. Wielding a frost-brand scimitar and a ring of fire resistance, he is 90% immune to all fire damage. So casting fireballs in a crowd is a fun option. His backstabbing and traps make him absolutely devastating when ambushing. So much so that he can take out entire Flaming Fist hunting parties in a couple of rounds, all by himself. The versatility of magic can have the entire party walk around Baldur's Gate unseen for weeks, open locked chests, turn his armor class into an advantage, lower store costs, and much more. With the bracers of archery equipped, he's a deadly shot with a crossbow of speed.

Vicconia is widely regarded as the most powerful cleric in the game, and in a small party her ability to tank has surprised me. With the the most powerful armor in the game, her amazing 19 dexterity, and most importantly her magic resistance, she is difficult to harm in any way shape or form. The gauntlets of ogre power and that awesome mace (the one that paraylizes-aka KILLS-25% of the time) she is not just for slinging stones anymore. She can't take a hit as well as the games traditional tanking characters, but they don't get to cast sanctuary and slip away like she can either. With a wide range of defense and crowd controlling spells, she is extremely useful, and she is one of three characters in my party that can cast dispell magic if needed.

Eldoth the bard has proven to be a great compliment to my party. Between him and Groeg I have over 6 second level spell slots available for invisibility and knock. He doesn't cast during combat because he wears the +4 mithril chain, so most of his spells are for divination only. On a hardcore run you must buy potions of genius before studying scrolls! However, all of this is a big advantage because it allows Groeg to focus more on combat spells. He's no Coran with a longbow, but the gauntlets of dexterity and the Dead Shot longbow combined with his innate ability to create poison arrows makes him a dangerous sniper. Bard song is useful, pick pockets is fun, weapon versatility is interesting (from dagger of venom to Rancor), identifying items quickly is nice, but most importantly he is another arcane spell user. Which means double the wand and scroll use!

Dorn is my favorite NPC in the game. His devastating damage output makes him the only warrior you need. He does all the heavy lifting for my party. Bashing open doors, hauling ankheg hides, taking down foes quickly, and tanking. His biggest asset is eliminating mages. Any mage that isn't properly buffed or is dispelled, is a dead mage around Dorn. He has 2 proficiency slots in darts, which means that he can apply a deadly poison to them, and then hurl 3 or 4 of them a round! Once they are poisoned, they can't cast spells, and it's just a matter of slowly walking over with that two-handed sword scrapping off the stoney ground...The only thing about Dorn is that it's wise to buff his AC with potions or spells at early levels.

Obviously this party is very evil. My reputation is usually at 1, unless I want to buy stuff then I get it up to a 4 and use a friend spell. Early on the Flaming Fist mercenaries are dangerous, but later on they become easy to avoid or kill off. This is my first run with a small party and it's way more fun than using a 6 NPCs.

Can anybody make a better 4 man group than mine? :P

Anymore kits in the future or just with Bg 2 EE?

I was thinking that a few thief/bard kits I really liked from mods (adventurer and acrobat) never made the call. I really think they need more kits that aren't just about offense. Right now only the swashbuckler kit has a defensive armor class component to it. Assassin-very much offense, bounty hunter-defense in setting traps, offense in that enemies are usually dead when done. Thief-meh, very much offense with either a bow style or backstab support. Shadowdancer-offense although there is a bonus to spell saves.

I really liked Adventurer class because it was like a thief that is able to master in anything and still pick up a few ac bonuses along the way. Im playing right now as an assassin and the skill point ratio is just terrible.

Acrobat was a cool variant for a bard because you were like the best character to draw away ranged weapon users away from party. Besides everyone usually always plays a blade or skald and not as many people play a vanilla bard or jester. Although jester is much better than it used to be.

What I'm hoping is that they add a few kits in bg 2 and they eventually slide them in here as well :) Are there any plans to add a class or two to updates or is it likely to only come out in bg 2 ee?

(Help) Do You Know Any Spell Mods?

Hello there, Ladies and Gentlemen. Currently I am seeking a mod/mods, which add new spells + remake old ones to make them more balanced and/or true to the PnP equivalents.
However, what I am looking for are mods which do only that, without tampering with any other content, and which are completely compatible with the Enhanced Edition.

Thank you up front for all the assistance.

So, any of you guys and gals know of any live streams of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition? Do you live stream yourself? Why not post a link to your live stream when you do!

Well, I for one never really live streamed before, so I'm taking this chance now (if my connection can sustain it) and that's why I'll be (trying to) live stream BGEE in about 5-10 minutes on my twitch channel!

If you wanna check it out, feel free to go here and leave a 'Kappa' or something http://www.twitch.tv/thelauron

Ring of Animal Friendship

Especially when soloing I always try to give a chance even to the seemingly less useful items in the game, but I never understood how to use effectively the ring of animal friendship.

It seems to me that it might only works on bears and some wolves, but at the point in the game you get it you shouldn't bother about them. It would be nice if it could be used on spiders, but they are monsters (BTW do you think this is fair? ).

Has anyone found an effective way to use that ring apart from recruiting an army of squirrels?

Edit: I am refering to BG1

How do you roll up the stats for a new character in BGEE?

We often talk about the PC characters we are using, but it might be interesting for us to discuss and share how we tend to roll the stats for our PC character once we have decided on gender, race and class.

Ok whats the deal with critical hits?

Ive been trying to figure out what/how you get more critical hits in game. other than putting points into single weapon prof and two-handed prof. It might make sense that I've figured it out unless someone can prove me wrong. So far I have based this on imoen with a bow while my thief is dual wielding daggers. I have 18 thaco while imoen has 14. She not only gets criticals all the time (against low lvl creatures), she also seems to have a much better shot at getting criticals than my thief.

I have come to the conclusion that just like the eschalon series, critical hits are somewhat mired/related to your to hit rate/thaco of said character. This means that you would likely not get as many crits against sarevok (unless you are a much higher lvl with much higher thaco than possible). Its more or less that you can outclass enemies with low armor class and thus get more crits.

Can anyone confirm this as I just had a really cool idea for a thief character that wields a two-handed staff/two handed prof.

:)

Now I feel like I'll be short changing myself if I don't play her out.

Anytime Jaheira casts Entangle, my game seriously suffers from lag.

I haven't gotten far enough for any other spells with lasting effects and graphics. I assume it will lag with them too.

Is there a setting I can play with to improve on this?
