Barbarian vs Berserker: which is better?

Consider no cheats, no mods, and both are single classed.

Which class is more powerful?

Barbarian's Rage adds +4 to STR & CON, Berserkers adds a straight damage bonus.

Berserkers Rage protects from imprisonment, which while you rarely face it, there aren't too many ways to protect against it (unless you don't mind a Rep loss).

Barbarians run faster, Berserkers get grandmastery.

Barbarians get more HP, Berserkers get a better AC.

BGEE on sale at Gamersgate

Most people on this forum already have the Enhanced Edition, but maybe you want to introduce a friend or something to BGEE?

Anyway, there's a sale at Gamersgate:

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-BGEE/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition for €9,48

vanilla is also on sale: http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-BGOS/baldurs-gate-the-original-saga for €2,49
and BGII http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-BG2C/baldurs-gate-ii-complete for €2,49 as well.

This weekend only.

Hey, Gamersgate, won't you give me a cheque now? ;-)

What are your IRL stats!?

If you were in Baldur's Gate, what would your six stats really be?

I used to put my real rankings in NBA Live when adding myself to a team. Since I was a true Center, my ball handling skills were 20ish, for example. And even though I was a bench warmer on a decent Division 1 College team, my best stat was around a 50, for an NBA player. It was very fun, most of the time.

Keep in mind 10 is average, 18 STR is World's Strongest Man competitor, 18 INT is Stephen Hawking, 18 Constitution is a Navy SEAL or UFC champion, etc.

STR 13
DEX 9
CON 13
INT 15
WIS 10
CHA 8

I might even take this char on a playthrough!

Removing Delay from Spellcasting with Shadowkeeper

So I've always wanted a mage that could cast non-stop ever since seeing Irenicus blow up everyone in SofA. I used to just make the level 9 spell "Improved Alacrity" permanent on my mage, but they have replaced that spell in this game. This method simply makes the level 2 spell "Dae'Ragh's Mental Agility" permanent on your character. Undoing this effect is beyond me, so I just used Neera as a tutorial example, as my character has it already.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Presteps: a. Get shadowkeeper to work for enhanced edition. I followed this: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8798/heres-how-to-get-shadowkeeper-working
b. On your game, get your mage/cleric/druid/bard/ect. to cast any sort of defensive spell on himself/herself; it doesn't matter which one. In my case, Neera had cast the level 1 mage spell "Armour" on herself. Then, save with the effect still active.

1. Open your file with Shadow Keeper

2. Go to the "Affects" tab on Shadowkeeper. Here, so long as you did prestep "b", you will have a number of affects already present.

3. Select any of the effects and click the "Duplicate" button on the bottom. The duplicated effect will be listed last, as depicted in the red oval below.

4. With the duplicated effect selected, press "Edit." It will bring up a screen that looks more or less like this.

Note: the actual figures at this point do not matter, so don't panic if these values are not the same as yours.

5. We must edit the values in the red box depicted above to look like this:

6. Alright. Press "Ok" and save your file. Now you have a beefed up caster.

What's in a name?

Had a look across the forums and figured this hadn't been brought up yet. Part of my profession is in the study of languages and in particular name variations. This is why naming a character in Baldur's Gate - and many other RPG's and PnP games - is very difficult for me. I always get sucked into the regional varieties of names, especially in worlds such as FR. There are Chondathan, Illusk, Rashemi, Elvish, Drow, Dwarven names and so much more.

For example: I figured Sarevok (or at least his father) originated from Rasheman or Eastern Faerun. It's not mentioned in game - as far as I know - but the evidence is in his name (Sarevok Anchev).

Anyhow, my question is: What do you guys name your characters?

- Do you stick to FR lore? (or whichever fantasy setting you're playing)
- Do you have a name you use for all your characters across all settings?
- Do you use a name generator?
- Do you name the character after yourself?
- Do you use real world examples? For example: Odin, Thor, Osiris
- Do you 'borrow' from other games?

I use a variety of the above for my own characters. For a number of years I used 'Islude' which I stole from an old Final Fantasy game. I have moved away from that more recently.

'Aelthas' is one I use for good characters. Took right out of page 12 of the FR campaign book (unoriginal I know) and Revakyr for my evil characters (as original as I can get).

'Iselas' and 'Irevan' for my Elven/Half-Elven characters.

Algernon's cloak - getting it without rep loss (spoilers)

Is 60 in pickpocketing plenty to lift Algernon's cloak? I do want the cloak. So if the pickpocket fails I'll have to wax him. But I'd prefer not to take a rep hit as my party's rep is now at 6. Does killing Algernon result in rep loss?

If I Charm him and have him attack Tranzig, that would be another way, I guess...

Does armor actually affect thief skills?

I'm not talking about special armors that have bonuses or penalties written into their descriptions.

I'm talking about the PnP rules. Thief skills get a bonus if wearing no armor, are exactly as they're suppose to be in leather armor, and suffer penalties in studded leather. Is that rule implemented?

Battle Music/Lifeforce (1985)

Funniest death screams.

Just when I started to get bored with slaughtering the town of Beregost, I encountered the smiths at Thunderhammer Smithy. I got a good chuckle from Marl's buddy at Feildpost's Inn, funny stuff. But the smith's death screams had me laughing out loud. lol

Gonna be hard to top them!

What is YOUR Alignment?

Welp, we still have 20ish days until release so here's a little something of interest to ease the wait.

I'm sure that anyone who has spent serious time with a D&D system has likely pondered over the alignment system. You likely have decided what your personal alignment is. You may have even started to assign alignments to friends and family in your heads...

So, as a matter of interest and curiosity, what is YOUR alignment? Let's see how people identify themselves!

Considerations:
1.) This is just for kicks and giggles. This is a moral model taken from a game and nothing more serious then that.
2.) Rate yourself according to how YOU interpret the alignments.
3.) We are NOT measuring alignment strength. You are allowed to identify yourself as evil even if you are harmless and / or have not committed any seriously vile act.
4.) There are people who take morality very seriously. This is not a serious post. Use common sense when posting and interpreting comments.

Bg2 Malchor Harpell

Is anyone annoyed at Malchor for stealing your hard earned equipments? He'll show up eventually to take back Drizzt and friends' equipments. If he catches you the second time for possessing Drizzt's items, he'll cast mass imprisonment on the entire party.

It's nearly impossible to kill him. And even if you kill him once, he will spawn again at a different map or on the same map but at a later time.

Here is how I work around this:
Shapechange: Mindflayer+Timestop
or
Shapechange: Mindflayer+Improved Haste

He spawns once per map. If his corpse is still on the map, he cant spawn again on the same map. After entering Suldanessellar, he doesnt spawn anymore.
Now I can happily use Drizzt's Items w/o being bother.

Has anything been done to increase the difficulty of BGEE over the old vanilla BG1?

I ask because the addition of Half Orcs, new classes, and kits definitely makes the game easier, in addition to all three new added NPCs having either a kit or a new class.

Has anything been done to balance this out? Is the game harder? Do any enemies have kits or more powers now?

Baldur's Gate II - Inviting Plot Hooks and Loose Ends

Hopefully, the developers will have received more freedom while "enhancing" Baldur's Gate II and, thus, some additions and/or expansions to the plot can be expected.
As such, it seems reasonable to assume that the easiest and least intrusive way to do so would be to expand and possibly conclude some unanswered questions within the game itself.

Below I invite everyone to list whatever comes to ones minds in relation to Baldur's Gate II (NOT Throne of Bhaal).
I shall begin with a couple of my own. Note that I do not take into account "Unfinished Business", since I have no idea whether this mod shall be implemented.

1. Who kidnapped Minsc and why? And, most importantly, who killed Dynaheir? From his initial dialogues we receive no indication that, at the time of his capture, he was with CharName or anywhere near him. Quite the contrary, one gets the feeling that his was a completely seperate event. Also, Minsc does not recognize neither the Shadow Thieves nor Irenicus as the killer(s), so another party could be involved. This, in my opinion, would also be great material for a "Minsc personal quest" which he lacks in vanilla Baldur's Gate II. After all, he never did got his vengeance.

2. Why did Irenicus dissect Khalid? What was Imoen supposed to see? Was the poor half-elf a Bhaalspawn himself?

I'll add additional ones later on if no one answers.

The no reload challenge (spoiler warning)

One of the most fun thing to do in BG is to play with no reload.

The point of the thread is for you to describe your attempts (failed or successful)

I'll start with mine (i just list the significative attempts, not the ones in which i died after 5 minutes). All these playthrough were on core rules difficulty (save for leveling, to get max hp)

- Fighter/mage/thief. Solo. Died in baldur's gate (level 5/5/6) from the mages upstairs of the magical shop (forgot their were casting horror...)
- Berserker. Solo. Died at level 6 from an ankheg, ambushing me while resting
- Inquisitor. In group of 4 (imoen, minsc, viconia). Still in progress (in cloakwoods)
- Berserker / mage (dual 7/8). Solo. Sill in progress (in catacombs at candlekeep). I should succeed it with this one (unless i do something dumb), as he is now 7/8 and almost unkillable (berserker kit is awesome)

My next try will be a solo sorcerer.

Some advices for those who want to try it :
- i find solo play easier than group play (as defense is paramount in no reload, and much easier to get on one character than on 6)
- very good knowledge of the game is necessary.
- when playing solo, never roll to save against a deadly effect (paralysis, horror, charm....) -> you need to get immunities (potions, items, abilities, spells) or you will die.
- always have an invisibility potion ready, as a panic button

Power gamers! What is your most OP Charname possible (legally, no mods)?

If you choose, include your party of (up to) 5 NPCs.

This is for BGEE ONLY, not any expansions.

powergaming party (BG2 TOB,NPC and multiplayer)

What is the most powergaming party that you can think of?

two different groups of posts
1) multiplayer created party by player. What classes/races (and items)
2) charname + npc's. What npc's
-this is not 1 vs 2 but creating 2 different threads for 1 purpose is silly
-bg2 tob exp limit
-no mods

and why is this the most powergaming?

for example
F/M/T half-elf - like kensai mage but +100dmg with backstab
Kensai13/Mage - i think everyone know why kensai/mage
cleric/specjalist mage - healer who is almost immortal
mage slayer13/mage - antimage
edwin - most spells

npc's
F/M/T op op
sarevok dualed to mage op
edwin - op op op
aerie - op multi
keldorn - op dispell
Cernd - SS f yeah

like you can see I prefer magic :)

Baldur's Gate Room on Doodle or Die!

Hey everyone. Just letting you know I just opened up a BG-themed room on Doodle or Die, and it would be nice to get some other fans in the room to play the game with. Doodle or Die is a super fun game that's sort of like Telephone, but with drawings! I would really appreciate it if some of you tried it out, because right now, I'm the only one in the room. It's totes free to sign up. Sometimes it moves a little slow at first, especially in smaller rooms, but it's really great!

Here is the link:

I hope to see some of you there!

Do any enemies use PfMW in BGEE?

My easy solution in BG2 has always been to carry around an extra, non-magical version of my main weapon for each melee character.

Just wondering if this were needed in BGEE.

TIA

How do I get to the Cloud peaks (spoiler adjacent)

I have a quest related to one of the new companions that requires me to go to the cloud peak mountains. And I have it on my world map but it's not selectable. Usually you go to the map next to it and exit in the direction you want to go but that doesn't seem to work. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Been pretty quiet on upcoming patch ...

Haven't heard anything for a while on the game update front. Is there word on when the next patch will be coming down the pipeline and what sort of things it will include? If there isn't, can we have some hints?
