What gender do you play Baldur's Gate EE as?

$

Hey,
From my experience people generally has some preference on which gender they like to play as in rpgs.
I for one used to only make male characters(I am a male) but now I more and more play as females and it has now been a reeaally long time since I made a male character.
I think I do this because I find female characters easier to make for some reason and I prefer to listen to a female voice while I play. Another reason may be that I find the female "voice-kits" better than the male ones :p

So, In Baldur's gate what gender do you prefer to play as? Or are you lawful neutral and perfectly mix you gender choices?

Please specify why you think as you do :)!

android / linux version , render re-write , multiplay match , cloudy save , remain language translation , additional pay , non-pay DLCs , weather effects , others ,

as we knew , wasteland 2 , eternity project , torment will coming soon later ,

Even develpers work quite hard for their promises , but i still feel they are losing money by themselves

All of us love BG series , but i believe there are many players will choose above three games instead of BG after those game be released , new storyline , graphic , modern design , etc..

time is money , i hope beamdog can done their promise soon and release new expansion pack ,

therefore ,they will lose gamer's attention and patient ~

When new old-school game be released , even beamdog finish new expansion pack and features , i am still doubt how many people will keep stay in BG series ,

Cloakwood mines not appearing on map?

So I've been through Cloakwood and have gotten to the Wyvern den. Previous to that I went through the bandit camp via the bandit in Peldvale and I didn't visit the contact in Bergost. I went to the side of the map in the Wyvern den and no option existed to travel to the mines. How do I get the Cloakwood mines to appear on the map? When do they normally? Thanks.

Staff-saint? Thoughts?

I've had this character concept for some time, a kensai using quarterstaff exclusively. At lvl 1, quarterstaff++ two handed weapon++, and another pip to quarterstaves at lvl 3, 6, 9.

I find the idea of a skilled character only equipped with a staff laying down beating on baddies and monsters of all sorts, FUN!

Pros:
+Quarterstaff has a reach, so a kensai can inflict pain just behind a full-plate mail armored tank.
+Crushing type is the best damage type, resisted by few enemies and armor types.
+Aule's staff+3 is easy to obtain and can hit anything in BG:EE
+Two handed weapon style gives critical hit bonus:a kensai with more criticals is always good
+Staves are fast enough, with two handed style and kensai bonuses, it becomes shockingly fast!

Cons:
-Low base damage, 1d6+3 of Aule's staff versus 1d10+2 of Spider's Bane.
-No dual-wielding so no extra attack. But grand mastery may compensate.
-No single-weapon style for extra AC bonus. (which a kensai always needs)

Do you think it is feasible or fun? Any thoughts? ^_^

Tried a quick thing with Edwins portait as tamplate.
Thoughts? Might do this again with a higher resolution and put on hour at doing it more thoughtfully.

so... cow falls on target?

How dangerous is this "wild" magic then?

Let's say I play a no-reload game and I play very conservatively (e.g. no casting *anything* in crowded towns).
How is the cumulative risk?

What if the wild mage is the PC?
What if it is Neera?

And, also just how much damage does falling cow do?

If you are a specialist mage, which school do you want to be in?

Worst thing you've done to an NPC

What's one of the worst thing's you've done to an NPC? You know, leave Imoen in Spellhold (don't deny it, you wanted to leave her at least once), ask Maple Willow Aspen about her parents' tree fixation, that sort of thing.

Suggested SCS Options

I was hoping to engage some SCS vets here. I have been playing BG1 and BG2 since release and I am very familiar with 2nd Ed rules in general. However, I'm still no expert and have much to learn. I would put my knowledge and "skill" of all things Baldur's Gate at around moderate.

That being said, I have never used SCS before and I thought now would be a good time to try. The only setting I KNOW I will use is the improved priest and mage AI.

Are there any other "can't miss" settings that I should definitely try? Any suggestions would be great!

Character Naming

So, how do the fine folk here at BG forums name their characters? Do you have a list of names available for call, or do you just come up with them on the spot? Maybe it is a combination of profane arithmetics with the position of the planets and the stars?
Me, I use both, as I have (short) list of names for certain character types, and have to make new ones when the list fails me (the stress, THE STRESS!)
For a paladin (or possibly fighter) I use Thorgraine, as it such a bloody strong and masculine name, fit for a guy like me.
Sneaky characters usually go with Ahriman, after the personification of evil on Zoroastrianism.
Magic users are called Vanderghast. I didn't remember that D&D had a wizard named Vangerdahast before coming up with it, but I like my undead Dutchman too much to care.
A dwarf is always called Beorn Skullsplitter, because dwarves (duh).
A monk or otherwise eastern character is Xander Oda (nothing to do with Buffy).
A recent contestant for a permanent position in my name list is Caldeus Xers, occupation whatever-the-hell-he-wants, 'cos people with X's on their names are too cool for school.
Feel free to post your charnames so I can stea... I mean be inspired by them to create my own.
And yes, there probably already is a thread like this, but I didn't find it, so, here.

Dorn in a Good Party?

Does anyone know what will happen if I keep Dorn in my good party? I remember playing that game when I was younger and i had Kagain(Evil) in my party. My reputation was at maximum (20?). At some random point, he just leave the party.

So now, I have Dorn, and I want to know approximatively what reputation I should have to keep him.

Also, I have Ajantis in my team. He didn't agree for taking Dorn (obviously). I there any chance they fight each other and one of them leave?

Thanks!

I've read you can find one "right after leaving Candlekeep" a few times on here in the short amount of time I've been a member of these forums. I can't remember finding one so early. Please help me out here!

Is grandmastery "nerfed" in BGEE, or is it "fixed" (as it was in vanilla BG)?

I've read conflicting reports, but never tested it out.

I remember, in plain old vanilla BG, there were significant bonuses when placing pips in a weapon above specialization (**), but when BG2 came out, it was calmed down quite a bit (and, IMHO, multi-classed characters became > dual-classed characters).

If BGEE has gone back to the way proficiencies were handles in BG1, I think the swing of power goes back to dual classes for the power.

BTW, I know some people favor dual-classed characters even if GM is nerfed. I'm just not one of them, and I'm hoping this thread doesn't turn into a multi- vs dual- debate.

Fighter/Thief multis and Duel Weapon Fighting

I'm a ranger fanatic, especially stalkers, however, I'm wanting to attempt an evil run, so the closest I can get is a F/T. I want to duel wield swords and am curious if F/Ts can get *** in two-weapon fighting.

How to aim Color spray?

Okay I suck at using this spell, though is inferior to sleep spell in every respect, but is more flashy and cool-looking. And I have it as starter spell when I rolled some virtual dice to randomly choose which spells to put into my book. Problem is, I can't make it hit enemies. It can be casted over an area, so I cast it on the area of advancing gibberlings, and they all waltz through it without a saving throw. And sometimes I hit party members and they fall uncouncious. Do I have to target a single enemy, to make sure it is affected. Also, how it is determined that how many targets are affected by the spray? Any strategies at all? I never seem to make this spell work as intended!

Can you make the following party better?

I am set on using only Good or Neutral aligned NPCs with this party. I want a party of four, which means three NPCs to go with my Good Gnome Fighter/Illusionist.

I'm thinking of the following setup:

Gnick O'Thyme
Imoen (dual to Mage at 5)
Jaheira
Branwen

I can assemble this party fairly quickly, and I'm totally covered in all spellchucking areas. Jaheira would have to be used as. Tank, which I'm cool with. She does a great job of it with the Big Fist Belt and Gauntlets of Dexterity. I like to build her towards using Daggers for the Dagger of Venom.

Imoen would be built the way many do in the game: good with traps, okay with locks, and good with a bow when not casting spells.

Branwen is your classic healer. But with the Gauntlets of Ogre Power and a casting of DuHM, she can really hold her own in combat. I don't know if I should build her towards using Stupefier, or Aishideena, or if she should be casting Magic Hammer for max damage.

I originally envisioned Gnick with a shield, the boomerang Axe for ranged combat, and swinging the Stupefier, but if Branwen uses it, maybe he should go for Long Swords (Varscona) or forgo the defense of the Shield in favor of composite long bows and Spiders Bane.

Please let me know what y'all think. I'm willing to use different NPCs than these (but I do like the party), and/or assign proficiencies differently.

TIA!

Top 5 NPCs, and bottom 5 NPCs! best party combos

When I first played BG back in the beginning of the century, I was primarily concerned with getting the strongest party together to kick the most butt.
This time through, I want to spend more time with as many NPCs as deserve it.

Who are your fav 5 NPCs to travel with, and who are your least fav 5?

Their effectiveness in game matters, but I am more concerned with who had a good quest, has good interparty dialogue, and who you look forward to traveling with again. I also want to know who you think the coolest party combos are.

(you can certainly have more than a top or bottom 5, I am just throwing out a number to get the ball rolling.)

I am familiar with CRPG mechanics enough to be confident I can succeed without concerns for party strength, and I know some of you on here know every little bit about this game, so this is a good opportunity for you to school some of us on some hidden gems in this game.

When Playing through BG, when do you typically get bored/get bitten by the new character bug?

Imoen just ran in an Ogre with her bow... again ... and got smashed... again.

After finishing the game with my Cavalier, I have begun starting over with a Fighter that will be dualed in Cleric.

I went with Montaron and Xzar and started looking for that Ogre just south FAI thanks to my metagaming memory of mine.

Imoen with her bow
My fighter with his warhammer and his plate armor
Monty, casting magic projectiles from afar (with the wand).
Xzar casting Larloch's minor drain.

Eveybody went fine until Imoen responded with her bugged default script to go in close contact with the ogre, with her bow.

She did not last long. And yes, she had arrows in her quiver.

Default script is bugged. It has been reported, we're waiting for the fix.

You will then say : take the ranged script !

The ranged script is not appropriate => why ?

- When at close range, the NPC will switch to melee weapon and start hacking the ennemy.
- At medium range, it will flee very far instead of shooting arrows, and then only will start to fire.

=> I only want the character to stand his ground and fire, since enemies are already attacking my best armored characters.

In the original games (Vanilla BG, Bg2), the scripts were working correctly (Ie : they stay where they are -or get in range with a ranged weapon ; they go to melee with a melee weapon).

Currently, it's better to deactivate the AI if you don't want your characters to stupidly meet their end, and move one by one the characters.

So what's the point having the AI options activated ?
