What would you like to see after BG2EE is released

While we're waiting for BG2EE's release I've been thinking and after? What will happen after the release?

So I made a small list of what I'd like to see after BG2EE

1) Additional content, paid or free, such as new areas or new quests.

2) Expansions, not necessarily as big as the ones we already have, maybe complex adventures would be a better name for them, with multiple quests and new NPCs, not necessarily related to the main quest of the games;

3) Maybe a new modding suite to help the modding scene grow.

4) Continued support with bug fixes

5) Eventually a new isometric RPG, it doesn't even need to have the BG3 name :)

Any other ideas?

New NPC questions

How do you recruit Dorn?

Will Neela romance my Gnome?

Is there a time limit on any of these side quests?

I have a four person party I really like, and I want to rotate the two empty slots with the new NPCs so I can try out their side quests.

When do you go to Watcher's Keep (BG:2 Spoilers)

$

I have recently been playing through BG2 and really taking my time. I am still in Chapter 2 and have finally gone to Watcher's keep. After playing through the top level it really got me to thinking about when people actually go there. Obviously there is the Big Baddie at the bottom which requires quite some power to take down, but really the upper levels can be quite rewarding.

Basically, you go in and immediately pick up a potion bag, some unlimited amo and the amo pouch. These three (variably) items really revolutionize the inventory problems with the game, totally wiping out many of the issues that exist. There are also some other items and reasons to go early even if you don't finish the quest line.

So, when do people go, and why? I'd be curious to hear.

Does anyone else use the Axe of Unyielding?

Hey I was just wondering if others use this weapon regularly? I've read over a lot of the forums and when people bring up end game weapons this one never seems to be brought up and I'm curious why? I find the additional con HP regeneration and bonus AC to be a great bonus as well as the 10% kill chance and +5, is there any particular reason others find it underwhelming?

Please help me justify a Barbariam growing up in Candlekeep.

Barbarian is one of my favorite single classes. I just can't figure out a way, from a RP perspective, that a Barbarian grew up in Candlekeep.

Anyone else bothered by halberds in BG2?

$

I've played BG2 a number of times, and I've tried most of the reasonable party combinations, and there's always one thing that bothers me: halberds.

The way I see it, the game contains a surprisingly large number of decent-to-excellent halberds, but the problem is that unless charname is a fighter specializing in halberds, there's actually nobody who can use them. Everybody else has already chosen a different trajectory, and while changing course is possible, it's not an especially good idea.

So, I find and loot all these nice halberds and sell, sell, sell. It always makes me think that this particular bit wasn't planned especially well.

Anyone agree or disagree?

BG1 or BG2?

Aosaw -> Dee

Hello all,

This is just a quick notice that my display name on the forums has been changed from "Aosaw" to "Dee". Hopefully this will help people identify me more easily when you need assistance. So from now on, when you need to send up the Wombat-Signal, just type out @Dee instead of @Aosaw.

Game on!

Creating a new CHARNAME. Roleplay build suggestions?

$

Ok, this topic is for anybody who is like me and sometimes hits a brick wall when creating a new character.

If you have any favourite builds feel free to post them here. No power-gaming builds please.

My favourites have to be:

'Child of Bhaal'
Lawful Evil
Assassin
Weapon Specialisation: single weapon, dagger (also using throwing daggers)

'Gorion's Ward'
Lawful Good
Mage
Weapon Specialisation: Staff, two handed weapon fighting.

I think most people have tried those above, and they do indeed hold the most RP potential in my opinion.

Lately, I have been toying around with a 'Spike Spiegel' build.

True Neutral,
Bounty Hunter/Swashbuckler (Bounty Hunter for roleplay reasons, but I am aware this character is starting to look like a certain Yoshimo)

Weapon specialisation: Crossbow? This is a difficult one.

With regards to RP it could work in how the PC seems to become a mercenary right out of Candlekeep and catches a good number of crooks for gold.

Anyhow, suggestions? Let's see some creativity!

Here's how to get Shadowkeeper working

Heya.

I got Shadowkeeper working for BGEE. Here's what I did:

1. Follow directions for Windows in the OP at http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/6950/player-how-to-getting-mods-to-work-on-bgee/p1
2. This will allow you to access Item/Spell/Creature Browsers, but no saved games. The following steps will allow saved games as well:
3. Open an elevated command prompt. If you are using Windows XP, and your user is in the Administrators group, a normal command prompt will do. See http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/69221-how-open-elevated-command-prompt.html for Windows Vista/7 users.
4. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766 or wherever your chitin.key file is.
5. Type the following:
mklink /J .\save\ "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition\save"
6. Run Shadowkeeper. It will probably tell you your installation path is incorrect, or it will load your legacy BG2 installation.
7. Go to Settings, then Installation Directory.
8. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766\ or wherever your chitin.key file is saved.
9. Click OK. It will warn you that the Shadows of Amn executable was not found, and if you are sure. Click Yes.
10. It will tell you to restart Shadowkeeper. Do so, and you're in.

Backing up your saved games before editing is HIGHLY recommended, even moreso than before.

A neutral monk class kit

We have the Sun Soul Monks and the Dark Moon Monks.
I would love to se a Neutral class for the monks.

Since I'm the sole advocate for that the monk rule supreme in this forum I do not think I will so many "woho's" on this on - but it is worth a shoot.

What should a Shadow Monk have advantage and dis-advantage?

I think that maybe the quivering palm should stay and the healing should be removed.

Add Blur as the Dark Moon Monks have on level 3 or 5.

Draw Upon Holy Might on level 8 or 9.

It would be cool if they could step into the Shadow Plane as the Shadowdancer.

No extra speed movement more then the +2 from the start.

What do you think?

Alternate NPC and PC portraits... because I'm bored while waiting for more patches to come out. :P

Formerly Alternate NPC and PC portraits... because I'm bored with no BG:EE to play. :P

Just as it says on the [former] title. I suffer for want of my game, so I'll make sure you'll suffer, you'll ALL suffer, MWAHHAHAHHA! And I'll do so with 'art'. As I am an avid fan of the BG2 portrait style, I'm trying for getting as close to it as I can, but, yeah, it's not exactly easy, and I'm no artist, so, you've been warned. I'm going to keep posting more pictures as I make 'em. Here is one new and a few you might have already seen posted on a different thread (put here just for the sake of completion). If after I'm done with all the BG1 NPC portraits BG:EE still isn't out, I'm gonna scar you all even more with my pet project - pictures of what would they all look like after putting on that innocent looking, unidentified magical girdle. ]:D
I'll start gently:

Alternate Viconia - features changed to fit more with what Jaheira's and Aerie's pics established as elvish features. Skin color changed because I like black drows better than blue drows (although from the description someone posted, the drow skin does have a purple or blue tone to it, so the original pic isn't wrong, per se, it just isn't to my taste). Cloak and sky color changed just because. :) Original to the left, tweaked version to the right, for sake of easy comparison.
image

My fav PC, Karrion - glued together from at least five different pictures - hopefully you won't be able see any of Frankenstain's Monster in him. ;)
image

Nathaniel, from the mod. I like this mod, but none of the available pictures were quite appealing enough for me, so I messed with the one I liked best and did this:
image

Lady Malica, the evil halfling. If you care to insult her, do remember - she has darts hidden all over her person, AND her teeth are level with your groin. ]:)
BG1picture edited to get rid of the green light, alter her expression and trim the ears a bit, then a lot of other stuff added. (From the character creation screen, halflings are supposed to 'look mostly like small humans', and it was said elsewhere on the board that they do not, in fact, have pointy ears, but... I like pointy ears! So she has them).
Original to the left, tweaked version to the right, for sake of easy comparison.

BIG FAT EDIT on 14.03.2013
Adding information on the first page for ease of finding it:
For those of you who want to use any of my portraits: I uploaded them to @TiaxRulesAll dropbox. (Read his thread http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8413/bgee-custom-portraits-dropbox-lets-compile-them-all-here-1300-sets-now-with-soundsets-section/p1 to learn how to get them). Folder with my pics is named 'Portraits (Syntia13)'. Below you'll find a chart with subtitled portraits - if you like one, go to the aforementioned dropbox and search the aforementioned folder for 3 files with names corresponding with the subtitle of your chosen pic. Have fun! :)

In BG, how do you usually determine your party of NPCs?

$

I think it would be informative for all of us to get some idea of how our fellow gamers in BG usually determine the party of NPCs that they intend to have at the end of the game. Please expand on your answers here to let us know why you prefer to approach NPC selection the way you do.

Also, if you want to, please think of answering the question, "Would you ever be open to playing a one-off game sometimes where the ability to recruit an NPC is randomized thereby increasing uncertainty in the game?"

Is there a use for Vanilla Bard Song?

I am not sure if I want to use Garrick's bard song in battle and so I tried it out. It seemed to do nothing except maybe remove fear. I don't know what improves morale does like said in manual. Does morale affect to hit and rolls?

Uniquely Evil Deeds in BGEE: A Thread for the Villainous

$
0

*Casts Protection from Good, 10' radius*

I'm curious to learn what kinds of foul things players have done in BGEE that go beyond the scripted evil paths. Yes, we've delighted Kirinhale by tricking Riggilo into accepting of a lock of "Nymph's hair" as a "gift"; we've killed Feldepost's men for Silke even though we knew they were innocent, and some of us have even abandoned a charmed Centeol to waste away in her lair helplessly after killing all of the spiders that fed and took care of her.

But what kinds of creatively nefarious things have you done in the game that extend past the conventional options? (Simply slaughtering everyone in sight and looting their corpses isn't innovative--savage Gnolls can do that.)

For example, after completing Neera's quest at Adoy's Enclave, I dismissed her, after which she pulled her usual guilt-tripping tactics before stomping off in a huff to the Friendly Arm. After a few days, my party found themselves back at the Friendly Arm to get some rest and she approached my PC and started pestering her about joining the party again. I was looking inside my scroll case at the time and saw that I had several cursed scrolls that I couldn't sell. Since they're basically worthless and take up unnecessary space, I decided to put them to "good" use. So, I accepted her into the party once again and, as recompense for her hurt feelings, I offered her a scroll that would "help" her gain further control of her wild magic. Unfortunately, for her, it was Cursed Scroll of Ugliness and her Charisma was set to 3. I apologized, telling her I had no idea it was cursed and then gave her a "Remove Curse" scroll to cast so she could quickly remove her affliction. Yet again, I was "mistaken," and she turned to stone before our eyes--a curiously grotesque, living statue to decorate the hall.

Yes, my PC could have just dismissed her once again. However, this way, she can visit Neera anytime she desires without having to suffer her personality.

I look forward to reading the tales of your (mis)deeds.

Most important role in a BG party

$
0

What is the most important class role you need to have in every party or even in solo runs?
Sure, you can do the game without finding traps, and just healing the damage after them, use a buffed up cleric to tank the horde of gibberlings or just rest until healed after every fight, but you gotta agree that most roles are quite important.

Keep in mind, that I'm not asking for your favourite here. I would instead like to know what's the most necessary role to have in a party? The one that you wouldn't omit from any party setups.

In the poll I'm just listing the basics. And I don't distinguish between different warrior roles (tank/melee damage dealer/ranged) as most warrior classes can do all these (kensai is not the best tank and cavalliers can only use some special throwing weapons, but they are rare exceptions).
As for mulit/dual classes, well, figure out which part of that multi-classed character is the one you prefer to have. Which role do you think you use them most, which role would you be willing to give up?
And I'm omitting support role (well this mainly goes for bards...) for obvious reasons (support needs something to support, without that, it's kind of moot...). Bards are either caster-types or warrior-types (Blade) here.

Game of Thrones and Baldur's Gate - Who's who?

$

Hi, this thread is for having some fun, and discussing Game of Thrones characters as Baldur's Gate characters.

What race, class, and alignment are your favorite Game of Thrones characters? If you could start a BG:EE game with a custom party of six, and name all six of them as GoT characters, what would you pick, and why?

I think, just to get it started:

Tyrion Lannister - chaotic good dwarf rogue or rogue/fighter
Jamie Lannister - neutral evil human fighter
Cercei Lannister - neutral evil human sorceress, or rogue/mage
Katelyn Stark - lawful good human cleric
Rob Stark - lawful good human fighter
Jon Snow - lawful good human ranger>druid

other options:
Danaerys Targarean: chaotic good human dragon disciple
Kal Drogo - chaotic neutral human or half-orc barbarian

Dual Classing Level Balance

$
0
0
One thing that always trips me up is where the tipping point is for leveling up Class A in order to successfully dual class. Like, how many levels of thief can you take in Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 to successfully dual class to Mage and get your thief levels back?

Does anyone have a handy chart somewhere for those of us who suck at math?
