Removing Delay from Spellcasting with Shadowkeeper

So I've always wanted a mage that could cast non-stop ever since seeing Irenicus blow up everyone in SofA. I used to just make the level 9 spell "Improved Alacrity" permanent on my mage, but they have replaced that spell in this game. This method simply makes the level 2 spell "Dae'Ragh's Mental Agility" permanent on your character. Undoing this effect is beyond me, so I just used Neera as a tutorial example, as my character has it already.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Presteps: a. Get shadowkeeper to work for enhanced edition. I followed this: http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/8798/heres-how-to-get-shadowkeeper-working
b. On your game, get your mage/cleric/druid/bard/ect. to cast any sort of defensive spell on himself/herself; it doesn't matter which one. In my case, Neera had cast the level 1 mage spell "Armour" on herself. Then, save with the effect still active.

1. Open your file with Shadow Keeper

image

2. Go to the "Affects" tab on Shadowkeeper. Here, so long as you did prestep "b", you will have a number of affects already present.

image

3. Select any of the effects and click the "Duplicate" button on the bottom. The duplicated effect will be listed last, as depicted in the red oval below.

image

4. With the duplicated effect selected, press "Edit." It will bring up a screen that looks more or less like this.

Note: the actual figures at this point do not matter, so don't panic if these values are not the same as yours.

image

5. We must edit the values in the red box depicted above to look like this:

6. Alright. Press "Ok" and save your file. Now you have a beefed up caster.

Melf's minute meteors

I've noticed that once the spell user of melf's minute meteors throws his/her last meteor he/she switches to a melee weapon and goes straight into the fray which we all know can be a problem for spell casters if the right spell protections have not been cast. Can this be changed so that a switch to ranged weaponry is prefered? Bearing in mind I have been using a standard fighting script, it may be different with say a ranged or caster script.

Any native linux version planned ?

Using wine isn't a solution.

Graphics Performance on Atom

Just wondering if anyone has had success with decent FPS on their atom (netbook). I'm getting a consistent 16FPS in game, regardless of any adjustment to graphics settings in the ini. I'm actually running a Z2760 in my clovertrail tablet. Anybody on atom having low fps or find a tweak to improve performance? FPS are great on a vanilla install of BG from GOG, but the graphics don't support gpu scaling, so everything is tiny and touch is inefficient on a HD resolution.

need a tough fight pre-bandit camp, or advise on difficulty

I'm playing through BG with 4 friends of mine in a lan MP session: Fighter, Archer, Thief and Illusionist. Problem is, we've cleared Nashkel and some of the surrounding areas and the fighter and archer can tear through pretty much anything by themselves (Drizzt went down surprisingly quick to the archer with comp. longbow +1 and bracers of archery + summoned hobgoblins). For all I know, the difficulty is 'normal', meaning I haven't touched it, and my friends are complete noobs.

Short of Durlag's tower where we'd just die to traps, are there any hard fights before bandit camp? Doomsayer and the Idol comes to mind, but don't really remember how tough he is. Also, does difficulty affect mob stats only or their AI/actions as well?

Anyone encounter this? If so, do you know how to fix it?

Thanks again everyone for being great sports and answering my questions in the past.

To begin, I am experience a text-based issue. In the character creation screens (and when trying to write a note to journal) random item names are appearing opposed to the kits name and description.

I do have a few mods installed. In order: Sub-races, BGEE Weapons and Armour merchants, High Hedge items (wizard’s staff, circlets, etc).

My limited knowledge indicates this may be a dialog.tk issue? Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve the issue?

Thanks!

Dragon diciple or Sorcerer?

Hey, I have almost finished the game with my human berserker but now I really feel like trying out a mage like class and thought the sorcerer with its pros were awesome but then I looked at the Dragon Disciple and I can't figure out why someone would chose sorcerer over the dragon disciple.

So what am I missing? The dragon disciple looks exactly like the Sorcerer only with more pros like armor and breath spells? Can the DD use fewer spells or something like that?

Ok whats the deal with critical hits?

Ive been trying to figure out what/how you get more critical hits in game. other than putting points into single weapon prof and two-handed prof. It might make sense that I've figured it out unless someone can prove me wrong. So far I have based this on imoen with a bow while my thief is dual wielding daggers. I have 18 thaco while imoen has 14. She not only gets criticals all the time (against low lvl creatures), she also seems to have a much better shot at getting criticals than my thief.

I have come to the conclusion that just like the eschalon series, critical hits are somewhat mired/related to your to hit rate/thaco of said character. This means that you would likely not get as many crits against sarevok (unless you are a much higher lvl with much higher thaco than possible). Its more or less that you can outclass enemies with low armor class and thus get more crits.

Can anyone confirm this as I just had a really cool idea for a thief character that wields a two-handed staff/two handed prof.

:)

Blade or Skald for Neutral/NG run?

I have never played a bard before and I am looking to use one for my neutral/neutral-good run. I feel like a Blade may be too tank oriented and I may miss the full bard experience. What are your thoughts?

Be forewarned, I plan on using Rasaad, Neera in my party and I am looking for other members outside of the canon party and my other evil playthrough (Dorn, Vic, Kagain, Edwin, and Special NPC).

I am partial to perhaps including Branwin and Xan…

Purifier +5 or Carsomyr +6?

I am currently playing a cavalier dual wielding bastard swords in BGEE I plan on taking Keldorn in BG2EE, so I will have someone to weild both holy swords. Is it better to use the Eye of Tyr on Carsomyr and give it to Keldorn, on the Purifier and give it to my PC? Also, is Foebane +5 better then Purifier +5? If it is I think that I will just give the Eye of Tyr to keldorn and chunk mobs with foebane (but I do feel bad using a weapon casting larloch minor drain on cast with a pally)

Worried about Kensai / Mage.

Hello Forum,

Me and my friend are going to be playing all of BG1 together (and BG2 when it come out).

He is planning to run a blackguard, and I was thinking about making a kensai / mage.

The problem here is that I have heard that especially in BG2 Kensai / Mages gets really absurdly powerful, and I really don't want to annoy my friend by dominating every combat.

Am I worrying about nothing or should I just run a mage?

So how's the Assassin?

Kinda interested in playing an Assassin character. Anybody had any experience with this particular kit? Seems like it would be kind of awful in both games, since in the first one it's a bad thief and its class benefits don't come into play, and in the second one enemies start becoming immune to Backstab.

Polymorph other-bugged?

$

I can't get this spell to work. I am not sure if there is a scroll in the regular game, but a sorcerer can learn it and it does nothing at all. If the target saves, there is save vs polymorph message. If the target fails, there is no message, and nothing happens.

Incidentally, the wild surge that turns the caster into a squirrel (save vs polymorph negates) instantly CHUNKS the caster, and a neutral, uncontrollable squirrel appears in place of the caster. This is irreversible death. Whereas in the original, you turn into squirrel but are controllable, you get a huge penalty to STR, lose your attacks, and spell casting, for some duration. Squirrel form even has a paperdoll in inventory. It is not supposed to be instant-irreversible death by chunking.

Any ideas?

Bit of help please

... right then. I'm actually talking about the plot of Mask of the Betrayer -- the best writing since Torment. Actually, perhaps the best plot in an RPG ever.

I wish that whatever new additions are being made to BG2EE will show a similar taste in good writing.

(Oddly, BG has significantly better combat than the entire NWN2 experience, proving, perhaps, that it is possible to *overbalance* a system.)

... if only we could have a game with BG-level combat and Torment/MotB level story.
