Enhanced Edition characters and content
We've had some questions regarding the new story content for the Enhanced Edition. I thought I'd write up a little post, explaining our thinking around the structure.
We had a few high level goals with our new content:
1) Don't change the original story, curate don't re-invent.
2) Don't break the critical path
3) Give the new content a context within the story which allows us to fit it into the world.
4) The new content must be optional (supports point 1)
With these goals in mind we set out to craft new storylines which could integrate with the game without breaking the original plot and we came up with two concepts: Expansions and Characters.
Expansions would either have to be side quests jammed into the existing game (Tales of the Sword Coast) or story events which happen between of following the game (Throne of Bhaal)
We are still planning on going the expansion route, but timeline issues have forced us to push back the expansion planning.
Characters seemed a good solution to us at it would allow us to add new, optional, non-critical path content to the game within the context of some new, interesting NPC characters. We felt the new characters would add to the game and not take anything away and I think we are correct in this. The character structure also allows us to clearly demarcate new content for contractual reasons.
With this organization in our understanding and in our agreements, we will be proceeding with the two forms of new content as we move forward.
Best,
-Trent

Cleric/ mage robe wearing
Hi all, is it possible to make my cleric mage look solely like a mage?? I want my character to look like he's wearing a robe and still use my shield and mace. It's really just a cosmetic thing.
Thanks

New kits?
I had no idea there were new kits available until I started reading about them here in the forums.
I have a couple of questions, if someone who's tried the kits wouldn't mind:
-I read somewhere in here that the dragon disciple kit wasn't working. Does it still not work as of v.2014? What exactly is wrong with it? Does it not work at all, or are there only certain features that don't "do what it says on the tin?"
-I notice that there is a Sunsoul Monk kit now. Does Rasaad come equipped with it? I'm pretty sure he still has stunning blow instead of the Sunsoul order powers he should have.
-Has anyone tried either of the two monk kits, the dragon disciple, the shadowdancer, or the blackguard, and what do you think of them?

Do the developers ever have time in their busy schedule to just kick back and simply play the game they worked so hard to make? Just curious.

Should laying a trap make NPCs turn aggressive?
A common tactic is to lay as many traps around a unsuspecting NPC then engage in combat which usually results in an instant kill. Should laying a trap within a certain distance of an NPC count as an aggressive move and make them turn hostile? In particular notable NPCs such as Elminster, Drizzt, and various dragons who only turn aggressive after engaging in conversation are usually affected by this tactic.

NPCs fixed vs flexible starting experience
Currently recruitable NPC's experience is determined by the protagonists experience on recruitment. Some people (mainly power gamers) prefer this in that they can specifically recruit characters at a low level then customise a min/max NPC in terms of weapon proficiencies and so on or a dual class.
There is also an argument that some NPCs could be made more popular if for example they had a specific starting level. So for example, would Rasaad or Xan be better if they started at level 5? The downside to this is that in some situations they may be a lower level than normal depending upon when you recruit them.
Thoughts and opinions welcome!

Despised from Candlekeep to the Final Battle
Has anybody ever done this, or attempted it? Constantly hunted by high level Flaming Fist mercenaries, the usual quest dangers, bounty hunters, and perhaps most thwarting of all: judgmental shop keepers!
You can't keep anybody of good alignment in the party for too long. Although it's usually quite easy to get rich fast, the outrageous vender costs would be a struggle.
I think I will try, but first some rules:
1. Your reputation must always be Despised. Which means it can never exceed 4.
2. Set difficulty to medium.
3. No reboots!
4. Complete the entire game.
lol

Who Gets the Throne of Bhaal if CHARNAME dies?
It remains a mystery why the old sage Gorion decided to leave the safe haven of Candlekeep with his young ward CHARNAME, or why they were attacked shortly after leaving the fortress library. All that we know is that Gorion was found brutally slain a short distance from Candlekeep's walls, and that his ward, upon arriving at the Friendly Arm Inn, was killed by a wizard named Tarnesh. The motives for the killings remain unknown.
However, sages speculate that the killings were somehow related to the so-called "Bhaalspawn Crisis" which culminated about six months later with the destruction of Saradush and the ensuing battles throughout Tethyr, and with the ascension of the new God of Murder.
...
Well, if CHARNAME is killed, who ends up as the new Lord or Lady of Murder? (Or, who beats the rest and then chooses to remain mortal?)

I have chosen to put up my true identity with name and picture here in the forum.
I seem to be the only one, more or less, who has done this.
Should we be more open in the forums with our true identities and have profile pictures of our self?

Best Druid Kit: What are the spirit beasts? What about the werewolf?
My experience with druids is as follows: Jaheira, Cernd. I would like this to change. I am wondering what people think is the best druid kit, especially between the totemic and the avenger.
Side note:
Insect plague is the best anti-caster spell in the game for 2 reasons: 100% spell failure and targets invisible creatures.

What is the funnest way to play the game?
Preferably focusing around party members and character creations. What do you guys think is the funnest party combinations, and funnest class?
Also only 6 party runs. Imo less makes it less fun and and in some cases too easy.

Argh! Chickens!
So I was investigating a building within the fine city of Baldur's Gate and a horde of angry rabid chickens promptly attacked me and my fellow adventurers without reason!
Is there an explanation as to why a large number Gallus gallus domesticus should randomly inhabit such a building, and why were the fowl so rabid? What happened to the owner of the establishment? So many unanswered questions.
It is almost like there was a conspiracy taking place...

Neera hasnt talked to me in a long time, even though she likes me. Is this normal?
So far I have been trying really hard to make Neera like me because, if I am not mistaken she is the only romantic interest in the first game. Everything was going well, and it was pretty clear she liked me, but she hasnt talked to me in quite some time. What makes me think it might not be normal is
A) This game is certainly not bug-free
B) She died while fighting the Wizards at Adoys encave, and so I never spoke to her there about him.
The only real reason this is bothering me, is, I only took her over Edwin (My favorite character in the series) because she had romantic interaction, but if she isnt gonna talk to me that would suck.

"Let the Fates Decide" Game Journal (there will be major spoilers)
I've started a game that will be determined much by chance. For a great many decisions I'm turning a deck of playing cards to answer yes or no, such that a red suit equals yes and a black suit equals no. For other types of questions I'm rolling dice. Eg, what direction might I go exploring? Roll a d4 where each number equals a cardinal direction. And so on.
So I figured I would play a Diviner. Seems fitting from a roleplaying standpoint. The dice were pretty good to me after 5 rolls.

Alright, I'm initially just testing this out to see if I really want to do it. From just outside the door of the Candlekeep Inn I roll a d4 which determines go North. Righto. Of course I run directly into Phlydia. Do I talk with her? I turn over a red card. So yes. She asks me to look for her book. Do I want to do it? I turn over another red card. So sure thing, Phlydia, I'll fetch your book.
I do this in earnest, roleplaying as if I'm really looking for the thing. (No dice rolls here, just looking where one would normally think to search.) And that takes me into the house where Shank is waiting. I had no weapons. I had Sleep memorized... but I figure, look, I'm a Diviner! What the hell do I know about fighting some guy who's trying to kill me? So I get the hell out of there.
I run towards a Watcher in front of the inn, assuming he'll do his job. Can you guess what happens? Bingo. He ignores the homicidal maniac on my tail. (Wth?) So I run into the inn. (Maybe Firebeard will help!) Again, they don't seem concerned in the slightest that a madman is chasing me around with a knife. (Hmm, maybe I wasn't so popular there in Candlkeep growing up.)
I run into the Candlekeep library garden, in the hope that either Tethtoril or Gorion will protect me. Shank is in hot pursuit. I run straight through the Chanters in a panic. They immediately scatter like a flock of frightened birds. That elicits a laugh right there. And for just a moment I seem to be outrunning my attacker. Maybe a Watcher finally responded! So I look back to see what's going on.
I actually just caught a glimpse of the Voice of the West whacking Shank with his staff. You see my Diviner there basically staring in disbelief.
So anyway, yeah, this game is definitely on. Right at the outset I experienced something I've never, ever seen before in the Prologue in countless playthroughs. So that's an auspicious beginning.
Addenda:
1) As I've commenced this game I realize the best way for me to employ this RP concept is to have many decisions simply follow simply according to my conception of the main character. For example, there is no question but that this character would take Imoen along. That's just fundamental to who he is. But there are many decisions where the character might question what he might do next. And also, when questions aren't crucial then it might just be fun to leave them to chance. So those are the sorts of things being decided by the cards and dice by me as a player. From an RP standpoint the main character is then looking for omens, signs, and consulting various means of divination.
1) I guess at the end of the day that this character concept is Chaotic in practice, because you so often just can't predict what he will do next. (Nor can he, even if he faithfully and consistently follows divinations.) So I'm making him Chaotic Good. He is a prosocial and good hearted person. Although up for adventure and excitement he is not instinctively drawn toward battle. (He has high Int and Wis.) Beyond doing what is integral to his personality he will look to omens and such to guide his way. He is a pantheist (all the gods have something to offer, depending on the situation.)
3) One great thing about this RP concept is that you have to really pay attention to all the dialogue and narration, and the journal entries and even the manual (Manual 1 on the lore); and then really think about how the character would react, to decide what choices the character will make next. This means to try as much as possible to ignore the metagame knowledge I possess as a player and truly put myself in the shoes of each of the characters I'm controlling. For me this is a rediscovery of many basic elements to the story. This is all about how the story unfolds.
4) Although this is not a strict no-reload game, in the spirit of 'let the fates decide' I will accept all results to scribe spell scrolls and level-up HP dice rolls. If characters die I will not reload. If the PC (well, me playing as PC) has grown attached to a character who can be resurrected, he will do so. If the attachment is not so great, then he will cast his runes to decide.
5) I will try for the most part to leave the equipment that NPCs earn as spoils in their possession if they leave the party. In some cases I will ask for them to help us by giving us the item, and will draw a card as to whether they do or not. The exception to this rule will be an obviously selfish type such as Edwin or Montaron. I won't bother asking those types. The same idea also applies to NPCs who join with various belongings--those items stay with them. And during the course of the game, if I need a selfish NPC to share with another I will draw a card as to whether or not they will. (When there is a tactical advantage to do so, they might grudgingly agree.) I will also strive not to swap inventory items in the midst of combat. If a character needs a potion, then someone that has one will literally have to run over to the one who needs it, and hand it to them.
6) I will be roleplaying NPCs to the fullest extent possible as individuals, each with their own unique personalities and motivations, not just in relation to the unfolding events but also in relation to one another. I.e., relationships are going to form. And for each character decisions will be made that will affect everyone else.
7) I've added color coding to the 'out-of-game' comments enclosed in brackets: Green for when a yes answer is the result of turning a playing card (red suit), red for a no answer (black suit), and blue for dice rolls, party votes, and notes/commentary.
8) I'm using this dice roller from WotC.
