So after months of trouble and crappy computers I finally got my BGEE running so I am asking you guys; How should I play my first playthrough?
I managed to play for some days back in December so I have done the 3 new npc's storylines, but no romance.

As everyone else I have played the BG saga over and over again and I usually end up with a very similar party, me as a fighter or fighter/thief, Minsc, Yeslick, Imoen and then I try to change the rest.

My thoughts now when half a years expectations can finally be met is to either run a 2 person party (I ALWAYS do 6 player parties) consisting of a Illusionist/thief and a Cleric/Ranger or an all evil party with Dorn, Vicci, Montaron, Xzar, Edwin, New Guy and me as a......who knows.....Ooops, that makes 7 so I guess one has to go.

I did the Black Pits yesterday and will start the new runthrough tonight (european time) so please be fast =).

Is there enough Boo in the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition?

So while I was contemplating the meaning of life, uncovering various conspiracies and saving the Sword Coast from total annihilation it dawned on me... where was my favourite miniature giant space hamster Boo? Perhaps Boo did not like the last packet of hamster chocolate chip cookies I gave him as Boo is very quiet these days...

Do you think there needs to be more of Boo! *Squeak* *Squeak*

Quick question about importing saves into BG2

I know your character's stats and levels and proficiencies stay the same, and I *think* you keep some items, but do Imoen, Viconia, Minsc and other returning NPCs keep their levels and proficiencies from your imported game or are they updated and changed? If they are changed, anyone know if they plan to make it so they don't change in BG2:EE?

I honestly like Imoen better as a pure thief.

Ok. So I was returning to the High Hedge to sell stuff after my totemic druid's latest adventure when I ran into a group of black bears. Then something strange happened... (look at the log)

It's incredible to see the amount of stuff you can stack from the encounters inside Sendai's enclave...

I guess I have looted more than 30 elven chain mail (and more if I waited for the respawn of monsters) and almost 50 Katana +2 (since they often dual wield them.

That's in these occasion you're really going to hate the opportunity of looting all the stuff your opponents wear.

On one hand, you'll want to stock as much gold as possible, on the other hand, it is quite tedious to loot all the stuff :p

And I have not mentioned the magic swords and crossbow that are on the slaves and other drows ...

In terms of adding something that has never been done before in Baldur's Gate what do you think of the idea of having a Beholder as a recruitable NPC (I imagine in ToB or at a very late stage of SoA).

A Familiar Problem...

I am putting forward a case for the fair nerfing of familiars in BG:EE.

I understand and agree with the need to nerf these fantastic creatures from the realms... They were overpowered. The few threads attesting to cats defeating the mage at FAI, Rabbits taking on and breathing fire onto hobgoblins showed that adventurers had begun to use familiars as frontline troops!

In BG:SoA and ToB familiars did one thing and one thing only. They stayed in your backpack. They gave your wizard extra hp.

In BG:EE for a few months they actually were allowed to wander the realms free from backpack enshacklement!

I wish to return these beasts to the open air of the sword coast! Give them a USE other than a strange wizard permanent hp raiser they are being reduced to again...

This is a very wordy thread. I have placed each familiar in its own spoiler tag. I have placed each familiar stats namely pre patch 2014 data, followed by current 2014 patch data and my OWN idea (this may change with input) of how they should be nerfed data, in each tag. All data has been found from threads given on these forums, so thanks to @jalily mostly for giving the input!

I would fully welcome your comments.

Please, let these wonderful wizardly creatures enjoy the open air, once again... (and no jokes on how we need to touch up the nerfed familiars @Oxford_Guy and @Bhaaldog . I'm watching you @_@ )

This a magical warrior familiar. It should have a magical bite. It's innate goodness would also mean that it should not want to kill opponents for it's master, unless it really had to... That is why I have lowered APR by one, reduced THACO by 2 so it has more of a chance to hit and re-included it's sleep on hit ability. (Two chances of hitting causing sleep would make it to powerful.)

This is a thieving familiar, and as an englishman a much loved pet. Ferrets are those excellent creatures your grandpa, or grandpa's friend would scare you witless with by lifting a trouser leg when you were young... A cuddly ferret appearing magically from a trouser leg to only disappear up the other one and reappearing at a cuff is MAGIC, but not magic enough for me to give it 35% immunity (so lowered below the Imps level). This is a thief that picks pockets, hence returning it to 75%. It's other skills are near useless.
A wizardly familiar. Imps are magical, devious creatures that would prefer others do the work. Even if that means them wasting fireballs and other spells on them, that soak up, then once weakened they come in to finish the job. Magic means I have upped MR. Magic means poor fighting skills so lowered the THACO. They also have a powerful spell... They should be polymorphing for better THACO.
Another thief familiar. Put the 50% in find traps back so that adventures will lose slightly the temptation to eat it. The kind of creature regularly pulled out of hats, so MR is okay to me. A thiefy through magic familiar. The mirror image gave it little extra staying power as it is so easy to hit. You could cast mirror image and have a gamble, setting off traps and hoping they hit an image but why risk losing 1 con PERMANENTLY! It is a weak familiar because it had a good spell selection. However invisibilty raduis of 10 is gone... I say if an imp keeps polymorph, then let it's opposite the fairy keep invisibility. Return it!

After a return to normality and a comment from @oxford_guy . take away the invisibility radius with invisibility and put in reflected image... This would mean the dragons spells will appear to have grown stronger on starting SoA
A warrior familiar. Keep the same. This familiar can hit harder than a pseudo dragon... (have you noticed it's opposite alignment wise again?). It has had it's THACO reduced and looks pretty mean and tough already. Lowere damage to 1d4
All for Pufty, my own familiar. May we travel together, always.

Muderous Moppets

I'm playing a run with SCS installed and I realized that with the repositioned NPCs I could put together a group of all shorties without having to wait forever. So I'm running a Dwarven Defender. I picked up Xzar and Montaron. Xzar is very brave and tanks 4 wild dogs, albeit unsucessfully, leaving Montaron all alone. I head straight to Beregost where I grab Tiax and Kagain then down to Nashkell where I grab Quayle.

So far so good. A fairly solid group that covers all the bases. More thieving than I need but I figure Tiax can specialize in traps and stealth. Game mechanics make it awkward for him to do locks and traps since his thief button is layered behind the special ability button. But here's my quandary: Which shorty fills my last slot. As far as I can remember there's only Yeslick and Alora left and while Yeslick is a stout fellow I imagine someone in this crew would murder him in his sleep before too long. It's a been a decade or more since I've had Alora in a party but I remember her as being good aligned and, anyhow all my thieving slots are filled and then some.

So what should I do? Fill the 5th slot randomly with whoever has a use for me at the time? Go with a 5 man party? (I like to have a full party. Makes me happy.) Or suck it up for the evilish theme and have some random tall person fill the last slot. For balance I wouldn't mind a single class arcane caster. Xzar is dead already so Edwin or Baeloth? Start over and make an NPC?

Hrm. Is it sad that I have more fun thinking about playing BG than I do actually playing the game?

How do I do it?

I assumed it would be trivial-ish by endgame, but he basically kills everyone in one hit and I hit him maybe once for 5 damage during the course of all of that. He saves to all spells that are savable, mostly.

Is it just a matter of resets, or is there a win-button, where "win-button" does not mean "surround him with removed party members to trap him, then sling him to death."

First of all, I am deeply sorry if this topic is already here somewhere, a cursory search did not allow me to find any mentions of it.

To the main question then. Is it possible to continue my adventure with character created in Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition in ye olde Balrdur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, or am I in need of waiting till the day comes that Enhanced Edition of the sequel is aviable for purchase?

Thanks in advance for any (possibly helpful) answers.

Due to contract limitations I know theres alot that can't be done in BG2:EE.

Still, we can dream can't we? Whats something you want to happen that you know won't?

Personally, I want a quest to turn Mazzy into a paladin. I know it won't happen, but she deserves it and I've spent more then one game using shadowkeeper to make her dream come true.

That, or BG1 NPCs brought into BG2. I miss you Kivan.

My take on a BG3 plot (SPOILERS)

$

0
FIRST: This post is long-winded and meant only for the bored and/or very patient reader. It was inspired by a brief exchange I've had with @CaptRory, starting here.

SECOND: It's got ALL the spoilers, so if you're not familiar with the ending(s) of BG2:ToB, you're better off just skipping this one.

THIRD: There has already been a lot of discussions about what could be done with BG3 (or BGNext as the folks in Beamdog call it) in terms of plot, rules and everything else. I decided to start a new one instead of casting Raise Dead on old threads as that may be a better move.

FOURTH: Of course the game has a long way to go and possibly still relies on how well BG2:EE will do saleswise. Also, whatever decisions are made will most likely not rely on the suggestions and/or speculation of a few fans.

However, I still think it's an interesting exercise to imagine how some of us would handle a third installment of the Bhaalspawn saga. I'll start with my own long-winded version (did I mention this is going to be a long post? Yeah), starting with the following assumptions:

1) The game will use the next version of D&D rules (D&D Next, or 5e) and thus, whatever changes the 4e version of the Forgotten Realms brought continue to be considered canon, specially the Spellplague. It's not the framework I'd prefer to have, but it's the most likely scenario, so that's what I'm going with.

2) This is a new adventure on a new version of the system (not to mention on a new engine), and thus you are back to Level 1. However, the game will assume you are the same character from the previous game (Gorion's ward from Candlekeep, the bhaalspawn). How can that be possible, you ask? Read on.

3) Just as BG2 made some assumptions about your BG1 character (that you were a hero and travelled with Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc and Dynaheir), BG3 will also assume that you ascended to godhood (even though that's but one of the possible endings).

The prologue cutscene states your time as a new member of the Faerun's pantheon didn't last for too long. Cyric (who killed Bhaal in the first place and wasn't too fond of you in ToB), with the aid of one or more gods, successfuly struck against you. However, due to the interference of opposing gods (or any somewhat plausible explanation that doesn't spit on the face of FR lore), you were not killed, but stripped of your divinity, made mortal again and sent back to the Prime Plane, where your followers are now scattered and being persecuted.

There is an insurgence of Evil going on. If you are of good alignment, you must stop it, lest everything you fought for on your previous incarnation is now undone. If you are of evil alignment, you are *very* pissed off and you must not only reclaim your power, but also exact vengeance on those who have done you and followers wrong.

Your return to mortality will not go unnoticed. As soon as you begin your new life, the rumours start to spread. It won't be long before the assassination attemps will begin. You will need to choose your allies carefully. Perhaps you could find some old friends, people who can be trusted.

Not long after you start looking, a familiar face greets you. A now middle-aged Imoen, stripped of her arcane powers after the spellplague, and thus no longer an archmage, has come to your aid. Will you take her as your trusted sidekick once more?

Now, I know some of you might be groaning at Imoen coming back, specially like this, so feel free to disregard that last paragraph. But I think a prologue such as this certainly allows some old NPCs to return, if those events don't happen too many years after your ascension. It'd also contribute for a more BG-esque feel to the story.

Anyway, I'll write more as more ideas come to my mind. Please feel free to contribute with your own ideas and opinions, even if you think this is absolute crap - in that case, tell me what tell us what would be your take, if you've got the time and/or patience.
