End of Game

So, I finished Baldur's Gate for the first time. I killed Sarevok, and was treated to an end cinematic. Then the game just went back to the intro cinematic.

Is that it? No adulation of the citizenry of Baldur's Gate? No finding out how well my character did on the "good" path? Does all my hard work end with just a(n albeit cool) cinematic?

I played the game a bunch as a kid but never beat it before.

Importing and Multiple Playthroughs

I've decided to make a Cavalier and play through BG:EE 10 times, enough to raise all my stats to 25 through Tomes. It didn't feel right to use an editor (I also play on iPad and don't have the patience to edit the character).

I'm pretty sure after 1 playthrough I will have the items needed to solo the rest of the game. Just cleared out the bandit camp and already have 100% Resistance to Cold, 90% to fire, 70% Electric, 20% Acid, and 100% to Poison. I am a dual Scimitar/Axe wielder. I already snagged Drizzts weapons and have -6 AC and 78 HP at level 6.

My main question is, should I later export this Character to BG2EE, will I have the crazy amount of innate spells gained with each playthrough? If so, I am aiming for 20 Cure Light Wounds, 10 Remove Poisons, 10 Ghoul Touches (Horror in BG2), and 20 Vampirisms for BG2EE. When you are immune to Poison, Remove Poison loses usefulness and 25 in all Stats makes Draw Upon Holy Might worthless.

Bard song radius

Anybody else think the bard song radius is ridiculously small and unrealistic?

Seriously, the radius is like 5 ft. Your in the wilderness, with no industrial sounds, think about it. Music from a harp + Singing = the whole god damn land should be able to hear the sweet sound of music.

Just got hacked by Ingot in 1 hit on my 75 stat no reload challenge because I had to get 2 feet within my front line NPC's for them to gain the benefits of my Scald song.

First-Run Advice: [Branwen or Xan in the Nashkel Mines]

My party: Charname[FM-CG Halfelven Level 3-3 18/76-18-17-16-12-10]
Imoen [Lvl 5]
Jaheira [Lvl 3-4]
Ajantis [Lvl 4]
Minsc [Lvl4]
Kivan -- Trade Bait even though I would love to have his help with the Bandits later.

We do not have access to "Web" as could not justify killing Borda with Good Party. We do have the Wands of Fire and Frost. Planning to purchase Full Pate Mail and Dagger of Venom from Thunderhammer Smithy and already have the Comp Longbow +1, Varscona, Ashideena, Halberd +1, 2 Ankheg Mails, Large and Medium +1 Shields, Ring of Wizardry and usual assortment of other goodness.

If Xan needs to be rescued it would be interesting to get to him with only 4NPCs and then, once we finish the Mines, bid him farewell and rescue Branwen [who might decide to wear the GenderChange Belt as a disguise while she plots her revenge-in which case I need info on cusomizing 'her' portrait, something with a little more ooomph..

On the other hand, its curious how seemingly impossible was the idea of trying something out, calmly knowing that I could reload and run Plan B within an hour or two, at the most... Somehow, in my imagination that whole Reloading because of a Mission Failure -- such as not having essential area spells like Fireball, Web or this Stinking Cloud I have read about -- seemed like tangled knots that would take at least a month to unravel...?? Funny Monkey-Mind! :)

I suppose Branwen would have Animate Dead. Will Xan have Fireball?

Thanks for your comments.

Does using the Beamdog updater uninstall mods? It removed everything I had after the update... Wasn't BGEE supposed to be modder-friendly?

Does Wis, Int, or Cha affect saving throws or related skills?

I played D&D vs 1 and 2 when I was a wee lad and seem to remember those stats affected my saving throws in some way, but I may be wrong since that was like 15 yrs ago. Other than increasing memorized spells or learning faster, is there a reason to keep them at a specific threshold? Does anyone have a suggestion of minimal values I should aim to keep? I'll be playing as either a Kensai, Archer, Monk, or maybe Dragon Disciple. Though I'd like to make an alt magic user of some sort as well.

[BG2] [Spoilers] how do strongholds work for dual- or multi-class characters?

$

Hey all,

I've only played the original BG1/2 once, as a paladin. Now that BGEE is out and BG2EE is coming, I'll play through them again (already bought BGEE, but waiting until BG2EE to start playing so I can do both games uninterrupted). So, a question about the strongholds you get in BG2 - how do they work for dual-class or multi-class main characters? Specifically:

As a multi-classed character (say, F/T), would I get full access to both strongholds (in the case of F/T, the de'Arnise castle and the thieves guild in Docks district)? For a triple-classed F/M/T, would I get those two plus the Planar Sphere?

What about a dual-classed human? Say I start as a fighter, then dual to cleric at some level. I assume I could get the cleric stronghold as that's now my class, assuming I started that quest after dual-classing. Is it still possible to get the fighter stronghold as well? Does it depend on whether I do the fighter stronghold quest before or after dual-classing? Would it work if I do the fighter stronghold quest after dual-classing and after the cleric level is higher than the fighter level, so fighter becomes active again? What about doing the fighter stronghold quest after dual-classing, but before fighter class becomes active again? What if I start the cleric stronghold quest as a fighter, but then dual-class to cleric before turning it in?

Any insight would be great, thanks

Planning a low-rep run!

I'm finally tired of good playthroughs, where I'm nice and fair and everything is gumdrops and lollipops. No, this time...it's evil time.

What I'm aiming for here is a game where I spend the majority of the time at reputation 1. Where I don't care if I get caught stealing, because I'll slaughter the guards. And then the bastard who called the guards. And probably anyone else in the room.

Now, normally, this would be pretty straightforward. But I've got a few mods installed, namely, an armour mod, a weapon mod, an excellent kitpack, and one that gives me the bonus merchants from BG2.

As you folks probably know, they inflate prices dramatically when your rep is low. And considering the best gear the game now comes from merchants, that sucks. So, I was thinking...the smartest thing to do would be to visit a temple to inflate my reputation before making any major purchases.

So, with the generous assistance of ShadowKeeper, my party will look like this...

PC- Flagellant (Bard Kit), which will be Tea for the Tillerman era Cat Stevens. Why Cat Stevens? I have no idea. But he's going to be evvvvvil!
Xzar- Flametouched (Fighter kit)
Montaron- Slingmaster (Ranger kit, dualled to Cleric)
Dorn (I'm going to leave him vanilla since I haven't used the Blackguard kit yet)
Shar-Teel- Scout (Thief Kit)
Kagain- Dwarven Defender/Cleric

I need some advice from people used to playing evilly. Where can you make a lot of money? Where can you make up XP you'd normally gain by doing things the good way?

And I suppose if you just want to comment on the plan, that's fine too!

Place to spend the obscene amount of gold I've made

So, the title more or less says it all. I'm about to go to what seems like the game's finale, and I've made about 130k throughout my adventures. I haven't really come across anything worthwhile in the game's shops that I have seen, however. Is there a really good store that I missed? Or am I supposed to just sleep on piles of gold and stop complaining?

BG2EE: Who Stays With You?

We all know that many characters won't be returning in BG2EE, and I'm curious: which party members will you be losing in the transition, and who will you use to replace them?

My lineup:

Dorn (sticking around)
Montaron -> Korgan (up to ToB) -> Sarevok
Shar-Teel -> New Evil Female Thief (?)
Viconia (as if I'd give her up)
Baeloth -> either Neera or Edwin (I really don't know anything about how Wild Mages function at higher levels, plus I accidentally triggered her romance when I was trying to get with Dorn so that's a whole other mess I need to sort out somehow - hopefully setting the global variable to 0 will be enough? If not, I'll just stick with Ed...)

Are there any plans to fix it? Having your pickpocketing, disarming and lockpicking all in your special abilities area?? It's so irritating as to render the multiclass unplayable!

I never play as one so I hadn't really thought about this...but I do use Keldorn a lot in BG2 (He's a great character in a good party)

My question to SCS users is this: The spirit of this is to make the game a bigger challenge...but how powerful is that x2 your level for Dispel Magic? The description claims that it's far more powerful than most enemies you face, ...so what do you guys usually set this at and why?

I'm playing a Fighter/Mage/Thief

Recently added Dorn to party and Baeloth. Loads of fun.

Advice/Opinions On Party

Wonder if you'd like to rate my party. Currently going through the Black Pits and may take these guys through the entire saga (when it all comes out...)

Hawke - Level 8 Shadowstep

Human, single weapon style specialising in Scimitars, single weapon style and short bows

Thought I'd try out the shadowstep as I've played most classes to death (Being an owner of a version of Baldurs gate since the original came out). I like it - I'm finding the special ability (7 seconds of timestop) to be a great diversion tactic - hitting it as soon as a big fight kicks off and running behind the enemy - as he's at the front, most foes end up trying to go for him, which gives the actual big hitters time to get stuck in. He's got the str and con to back up the others in a fight, and enough bow skill to support from afar if the enemy is too much. BG2 will have him dual to a Mage. The only mistake I've made is as he's my only Thief, I've had to put points into open locks and find traps - leaving hide in shadows untouched. Luckilly it's not too vital in BG1 and he can live without.

Davoth - Level 6 Ranger, dualled to Cleric (level 7)

Human, Dual wielder specialising in Flails, Maces and Warhammers (currently using 2 Flails)

I initially thought about having Davoth as my CHARNAME, but wanted to try being a thief for once ( I've always gone for the fighty types as my CHARNAME). He's good - really good, in fact. I use him as my frontline Cleric, healing anyone in melee while dealing enough damage of his own. I like having at least a couple of guys with blunt weapons as their weapon of choice (having had problems with golems in BG2) and the flail of ages is the obvious goal for this guy.

Kolgrim - Level 7 Barbarian

Dwarf, Dual Wielder specialising in Warhammers and Axes (Currently using one of each)

I've always loved the idea of a Monk or Barb in a party, but been put off by their higher move rate - what if he goes too far ahead and gets caught fighting a Dragon by himself - or a squad of Beholders? This ruled out the Monk - packed full of skills as he is, the way I play means he'd be miles ahead of the party all the time. a Barb moves fast, but enough that the others wouldn't be too far behind. Always liked the idea of a Dwarf dual wielder using 'classic' Dwarf weapons too, so he fits the bill perfectly. Goal is Crom Fayer and some equally powerful axe. I like being forced to wear scale mail too - I like the party having different equipment instead of all being in plate.

Ghorek - Level 7 Beserker

Half Orc, Sword and Shield specialising in Long Swords

I wanted a classic 'Tank' in the team, and didn't want the dual classing and special classes to make the party too varied and have trouble when it came down to the nitty gritty fighting. Hence why Ghorek is around. I tend to just point him in the direction of the strongest Melee foe and leave him to it. Not much else to him really, but I like that about him.

Lanche - Level 8 Avenger

Human, Two handed weapon style specialising in Spears, Quaterstaffs and Clubs. Currently using a spear.

Never used a druid before, and never used spears. Since Davoth Dual classed, Lanche's role has changed a lot. Initially he was the sole healer, and was quite busy (Having 4 of the 6 party members fighting up close). I've also never had an 'offensive casting' Healer. With Lanche I have that. I generally have him cast any debuffs I fancy, then shift into the (ridiculously amazing in BG1) Sword Spider and let him fight whoever he wants, going for human fighters and mages when possible. I really like this character, and having him means I get a character who has lovely spells and shifting, but can wear leather armour (which I NEVER choose to wear) so I get to try that range of armour for the first time and see what BG2 and TOB have to offer in the way of spears (I have literally never used a spear in all the time I've played. Silly thing to look forward to, I know)

Zalamel - Level 7 Dragon Disciple

Half Elf, Dagger and Dart (Currently a dagger)

Zalamel was literaly born from the fact there was a new class, and I wanted to play it. Was concerned about the casting restrictions, especially when I move to BG2, but currently he's enough for BG1 (hence the decision to have Hawke Dual class in the next game to a mage). He's fun, though I don't use the dragon breath much. I'ts reassuring having so many hitpoints (for a mage) - especially since he has a tendancy to get targeted by enemies either through ambushes or ranged attacks. Currently he is purely offensive and has very little 'Blue' spells in his book - I have had an amazing success rate with the spell 'sleep' - to the point I didn't even pick Magic Missile until the next level up where you get to add another spell (started with sleep and identify)

So, there it is, my sort of RPG/Powergame party, with choices based off having a strong team coupled with a few picks based off experimentation. Currently the party has 3 fighters, 2 healers, one mage and one rogue. In BG2 there will be another mage added. I think it's the most balanced party I've ever put together, and covers all possible armour types (Leather, Scale and Plate), weapon styles (single, dual, two hand and ranged) Weapon types (blades and blunt) and has enough magic support that we can have an offensive and defensive caster from the healer and wizard classes.

The plan is to play the Black pits to completion, strip them of all items, export and import them into a solo multiplayer game of BG1. Then carry them through the saga. With that in mind, what do you think of the party? how do you think I'll do in the real game? any strengths/weaknesses? how do you think I'll do in the later games?

Oh, and first post. Hi guys :)

Table for lore values?

Is there anywhere that I can find a table listing the lore values for all the magic items in BG:EE? I've been restricting myself from using unidentified items, and I don't want to waste 100 G a pop to identify 5 arrows of piercing.

Easiest Way to Lower Rep

I need to lower my rep to 17 from 20, I think, in order to re-group with Dorn and finish his quest. What is the easiest way to do this without taking a major hit? Thanks.

Improved Jesters!

Apologies, if this has been noted, but this is a huge thing for me...Improved Jester FTW!

This is an "Enhancement" right? 1st lvl: save vs spells +2 or be confused. 15th: save vs or be confused and save vs or be slowed 20th: save vs or be confused and save vs or be slowed and save vs or be knocked unconcious

This is amazing, Jesters always got a rum deal with the Enhanced Bard Song HLA, but this keeps them relevant. can't wait to start one now

also Totemics get spirit animals that level with them: 1HD for lvl 1 up to 10HD at lvl 10.

well done Overhaul, this is sort of thing that BGEE needed, those loving little tweaks that brings some kits out from the cold
