What do you wish to see in DLCs to come?

Many people have said that BG is quite a complete game and there's nothing that can really be added to it. Even though, we know that we should expect some DLCs in the future that will add upon the game even more.

For me, I think that the best use for DLC is to add more kits to classes (sorcerer, barb, monk, maybe even wizard because other then wild mage there's nothing really special). Also, I guess that a good addition to the game can be a quest that will connect BG1 with BG2 showing what happend, how you came to be where you start at BG2 etc.

Another idea can be to add class specific quests. Nothing as grand as the ones in BG2, but it can still be nice. For exampe if you play a wizard, the one in High Edge become your mentor and each chapter of the game he sends you to a mission until he teaches you all that he knows. Also there's a lot going on with druids and shadow druids in BG1, they can tie it up with a druid PC.

What do you guys think? :)

Returning to Durlag's Tower

I bailed during Durlag's Tower because I was just scraping through it and wanted to level up a bit more. I was past the Chess Game (ouch) and I took the ghost of Islanne's offer to get me outta there, assuming that I could go back. Perhaps that was a mistake, since I can't re-trigger being teleported to the Chess board again. I see some threads on Google that imply it's possible to return to the 4th floor after leaving, but the links to some guide people refer to is dead. Any ideas?

Dorn - to Claw or not?

I'm wondering whether to give Dorn the Claw of Kazgaroth or not, CHARNAME got the Con tome (though I did give Dorn the Charisma tome), and he's not a shorty, so he can take the Con hit without noticing, though the -4 to saves vs. death/poison might be a problem at my current stage in the game - I've done the Bandit Camp and most of the south part of the map, but am still to do Spiders Wood and the the Cloakwood areas, both of which contain spiders (and therefore poison...), so was thinking perhaps best to wait until after I've done those areas?

BTW Dorn is currently level 6, and there's no one else in my party (elf fighter/mage CHARNAME with 18 Con, Monty, Viconia, Imoen, Edwin) who would be good to use the Claw with.

A question about Blackguards...

Technically Blackguards in BG:EE are evil Paladins... but Paladins nonetheless. Does this mean then that a Blackgaurd can wield Carsomyr when BG2:EE comes out? Cause that would be all kinds of awesome. If not could we get some way added to corrupt Carsomyr into an Unholy Avenger for Dorn?

What makes Baldur's Gate 2 so good?

First, a bit of backstory:

I got the D&D Master Collection (BG, BG2, PS:T, IWD, IWD2, ToEE) sometime in January of this year. I started by playing Baldur's Gate 1, because I planned to play through the entire trilogy and finish with PS:T, ignoring the other games in the collection because of their emphasis on combat over story. I completed BG+TotSC vanilla i.e. without mods or EasyTutu or anything and I LOVED it. I couldn't believe that I could do things like voice my own character--I've never seen that in an RPG before! I started BG2 immediately after completing 1, but stopped after an hour or two (for various reasons, none having to do with the game). A few weeks later, I thought I'd give BG2 another shot, but it didn't work out. I'd finally completed Chateau Irenicus for the second time, and an old Gamespot review assured me that once I reached Athkatla, the game really started to pick up. Yeah, right.

I soon realized that Chapter 2 consists of nothing more than doing quest after quest with the purpose of reaching the whopping 20,000 gold you need to pay Gaelyn so he can find Imoen and Irenicus. Now, I'm the kind of guy who doesn't care too much for 100+ hour "epics," so I like to focus on the main quest for the first run.

But I absolutely HATE filler! You know, where a developer feels the need to drag things out for as long as possible with the hopes of making you feel you got your money's worth? For every quest I attempt to complete, I inadvertently open up another series of sub-quests, which often required my immediate attention. I try to rest at an Inn, and Jaheira ends up getting cursed. Immediately after the Avatar disappears upon completion of the Unseeing Eye quest, Jaheira decides to start pouring her heart out...in the middle of the Temple...and then Viconia starts talking right after (can you say "awkward"?). As soon as I reach the surface, Nalia begs me to attend her father's funeral before I can even inform High Watcher Oisig of my victory. BG2, much like Skyrim, makes me afraid of exploring. "Don't enter that new area!" my conscience says. "There's a legion of NPCs waiting to force you into conversation!"

When I finally make it back to Gaelyn after checking off a few more boxes on my ever-expanding to-do list, he informs me that there's "something else" I must do. And just like in Neverwinter Nights 2, expressing my outrage does nothing to stop this quest from entering my journal. When a game sets up my expectations ("Yes! 20k gold! Plot advancement time!) and disappoints them ("WHAT?! MORE fed-ex quest filler?!) it's filler. And boy, is it INFURIATING.

So I stopped at Chapter 3. I've yet to see what all the fuss is about. Anyone care to convince me otherwise? Is there some mind-altering plot twist I've yet to reach that will glue me to the computer screen?

Worst thing you've done to an NPC

What's one of the worst thing's you've done to an NPC? You know, leave Imoen in Spellhold (don't deny it, you wanted to leave her at least once), ask Maple Willow Aspen about her parents' tree fixation, that sort of thing.

Welcome...to the DARKSIDE! Bwahahaha! Greetings from a new initiate.

Hi. I was just starting a new inquisitor build in Sacred 2, just for kicks, just because. I must say, that playing the Darkside can be awfully ... liberating. :)

The first thing that made me think so, was that, I used bargaining skill and got a scythe, right out the starting gate. With my flowing black robes, I felt like "bwahahaha, I am the Incarnation of Death! Fear me!"

Then, I got my first of the infamous "escort" missions, where the "escort" is squishy, and has a death wish. So, I totally ignored the fool and went about my business of uncovering map and gathering loot. And, of course, he died about thirty seconds after I took his stupid quest. Now, on all my multitude of "good" playthroughs, in the past, I would have thought, "Oh no! That poor soldier! Now I have a red mark in my quest book! Woe is me!"

You know what I thought this time? "GOOD! I'm free of the idiot. That fool is dead, as he deserves. What a stupid weakling! WHY would he even think he should travel with me? I am the Incarnation of DEATH! Stupid, stupid, meatshield! I'm so happy that nature took its course so quickly! BWAAhahaha!"

Damn, friends, this is fun! What a wonderful catharsis!

Sooooooo.... here is what this has to do with BG:EE. I am thinking of starting my first ever, virgin, evil run. What wonderful ideas I have!

1) Despite my Darwinian ruthlessness, I still don't care to intentionally cause suffering or pain to the innocent. Only to "those who deserve it." Of course, "those who deserve it" means, "anyone who insults me or disrespects me in any way whatsoever."

2) I will therefore manage my reputation by opening chests, entering any locked house I please, and taking anything that is not nailed down as a "tax" to the Inquisition. These commoners in the Sword Coast totally owe the Inquisition for their lives. They should be grateful to pay me whatever is in their little shanties in return for my protection.

3) Since I will be taxing the population of the Sword Coast in order to keep my reputation at "FEAR ME", where it belongs, I will of course be helping all those who need my help. And can pay me.

4)So then, what "friends" shall I take with me on my virgin journey of EEEEEvil and DEAaaaaaaTH? Well, I'm thinking, Monty and Xzar, with Xzar probably to be replaced with Edwin. Monty will stay with me, out of abject fear, when he sees what I do his "friend", who is clearly insane, and must be sacrificed to Nature, as "Natural Selection" demands. Monty knows which side his bread is buttered on. Dorn is a no-brainer for this little party. He's the strongest NPC in the game now, and the only reason to NOT take him would be in service some misbegotten notion of "good".

I need a healer woman, so that's got to be Viconia. She will learn to keep her place as a healer and a follower to my leadership, as yes, a male. If she wants to lord it over males, she can just go back underground to her beloved Drow society. We'll see if her "softer" side can distract me from my quest for absolute power, so I can rule the world with ORDER.

I'll probably take Kagain as well. I respect his mastery of the axe, and I appreciate his ruthless pursuit of gold. We all know that money is POWER. I intend to be the richest ruler on the Sword Coast. Kagain will be well-rewarded.

Hmmm, that leaves me with either keeping Imoen, or maybe taking Eldoth. Or Faldorn. Or Safana. Hmmm.

5) Oh, I didn't say what I would be. I'm thinking either sorcerer or conjurer. Probably sorcerer, so I can contribute to our rightful omnipotence in a different way than my bestie beastie, Edwin.

6) I will of course become the new God of Death, as I deserve. Not just the puny "Lord of Murder". I will take not only Bhaal's portfolio, but also Cyric's, Myrkul's, Bane's, and Kelemvor's. I will become THE god of Death, not just "A" god of Death. And, once I completely control the end portion of the Cycle of Birth and Death, Shar is next. I will control Night, Darkness, and starlight. Finally, I will take Selune as my consort, and control the moon as well.

So, isn't this "evil" business just SOooooo much fun? Bwaaaaahahaha!

What is the point of bard?

Ok I really have issues with bard because I like the idea of playing one but I am not the kind of player
that dual classes melle with magic, and wearing robes sounds lame compared to armour but I lose spellcasting (usually go for the mellee). That said the bards song does not seem very useful other than balancing out morale.

in the description it mentions being a jack of all trades also and having no pick lock annoys me as I am not fond of picking pockets when everyone becomes an enemy if you fail.

So please convince me why a bard is even remotely useful.

Did I dual class too late?

I aimed to dual class Xzar to a cleric earlier but needed a tome. By the time I got it, he had reached level 7. That didn't seem to be as huge a problem till I saw the insane amount of experience to reach 8th level as a cleric. I'm fairly fare in the game and he's a level 4 cleric at the moment. Should I just load or will he be alright?

Hi, right now I'm in Cloakwood and I happened to notice that my rep has gone from 18 down to 9. I checked my save games and came to the conclusion that I had 18 before the bandit camp and 9 after. Is this a bug or WTF??? /J

Anyone playing a jester?

Thinking about trying a chaotic neutral jester for my first BGEE play. I always liked bards for roleplaying reasons and this kit seems interesting.

The have no disadvantages and their song seems a lot better then the plain bard song.
As most of the games enemies are fighter type, the song should work on the majority of foes even with the penalty and I can always use spells to lower the saves.

Playstyle would be staying at the back using missle weapons and control type spells combined with the jester song.

It sounds good to me in theory but if someone who played this class could share their experience it would be great.

Following D&D Rules in Tactical Combat Based Games

Staff of The Magi, Disable Effects.

Greetings, I recently acquired a weapon called the staff of the magi, it is a (very) significant upgrade from my +1 quarterstaff and I wish to continue to use it for now.

However when it is equipped it causes my character to sort of glow then fade. Is there anyway to stop this?
If the only way to stop it to remove that effect from the game entirely could somebody instruct me on how to do so?

Exceeding Thanks Upon You!

What do you expect from new characters in BG2EE?

I've been having a blast with BGEE but I can't help but wonder what we'll get for the next game. There are some things I expect about new characters:

1) A single classed thief. Could be an elven assassin. Coule be evil, as well.
2) A romanceable gnome or halfling. All don't the shorties get any love?
3) A fighter/mage.

I imagine we'll only be getting #1, but dreaming is free. :D

Can't dual class as a Kensai

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but I started a new game and tried to dual class from a Kensai to a Mage but even though I had the requirements (human, Str >15, Int >17) the dual class icon was still grey.

I am making a Dual Class Berserker / Thief (Like Gatsu from Berserk)

Making a new character...I'm think True Neutral or Chaotic Neutral Berserker...who duals to the Thief. I'm a big Kentaro Miura Fan...and I've read Berserk (manga) now for going on 17 years.

The caveat is he's going to obtain Grand Mastery in Two Handed Swords.

In BG1 I was thinking

++Two Handed Sword
++Two Weapon Style

Then Add

+ Cross Bow @ LLVL3

Bump to +++++Two Handed Sword over LVL's 6-12

And dual at 13 for the last 1/2 attack bonus.

***EDIT*** I forgot that he would only be able to take one + in a range weapon as a Berserker...

Next I was thinking I'd take + in daggers and + in single weapon style AND + in Darts Then So he would have access to throwing knives and darts like in the book while regaining his Berserker levels.

As a thief I was thinking he'd put points into:

100 Hide In Shadows
100 Move Silently
100 Detect Illusions (this one is key)

Then I was thinking between the flame trap, time trap and use any item abilities he'd have the arm cannon thing down, and enough attacks at a greater speed to compensate for the loss of greater whirlwind...and Carsomyr! Which will help him dispel magic and resist magic as he detects illusions.

Anyone a fan of the manga or Anime? I know this is probably not optimal gear spec wise...but I wanted to role play this one. Also...with use any item can you back-stab with weapons outside of the thief class?

Did the Jester get a buff?

I was reading the manual and it seems that the jesters song has been changed so that instead of having a +4 save for the enemy it changes to -4?

Best way to print manual?

I'm a bit of a newbie here and I really think I should read the 170+ page manual. However, it is highly stylized and comes out of my printer with a shaded background which I assume is going to eat up my ink cartridge quite quickly. To avoid staring at my monitor for hours when reading.. what is the best way to get the manual to a basic text format that is printer friendly?

Two handed weapon Fighter/Cleric?

Hi all,

So, I'm PnP player for a long time now, but never really played with AD&D rules and don't have much experience with this game at all, just wanna play it now since my friend keep telling me that its story is so awesome, and I have to see it from myself.

The thing is, I played D&D 3ed and had a great time rolling an dwarf fighter/cleric with a two handed mace (with I sadly realize that don't exists in BG series...) and just wanna play a similar character. I'm willing to play two handed swords or even axesin this case. Now, I know the shortest way to do this would be simply roll a paladin, but, I just don't like to be lawful good at all (always played true neutral or lawful neutral characters). Besides, paladin spell don't seem to be that good in my opinion... I mainly use my cleric spells for buffing me and paladin kind of lack this spells...

The other thing is... I don't get this multi - dual class thing at all... Never made much sense for me and just don't get it, but if I'm to play this kind of character throught the BG series, I will need to understand it...

So I'd like to ask you guys, what tips (atributtes, weapon proficiences, spells, multi vs. dual class, etc) you have and what do you recommend me to play. I'm planning to use this character throught the role BG series and planning on take a 4-6 characters group, so no need for a jack-of-all-trades build... Just a good melee build, using a two handed weapon (if its too hard to do, maybe a dual axe/blunt weapons build) , with some nice buffs/heals (not intended to be the party healer). Also, I'm kind of like romance in RPG games, so I think being a human would be a factor here... But that would be just an extra, my focus here is a good build.

Thank you all, eager to start playing :)
