Q: Beamdog Mobile - Moving Beamdog games to SD storage to play, or as a backup.

I'm looking for a LEGAL way to move BG (and all mobile Beamdog games) to my SD card, hopefully still playable, or if not at least as a backup. Please don't suggest anything illegal, I'm not interested in that kind of things!

I have 16 GB of local storage on my phone/tablet and about 30% is being taken by bloatware. My 128 Gb SD card is pretty useless because I'm unable to move app/game content from local, even though Android (7) gives the option to move to SD storage. It just pretends to move but the files are still on local and SD content are empty folders.

Only 2 games I own succesfully move (almost 100% of the data) and still remain playable: Bard's Tale and Devil Stone.

I'd love to have a functioning BG1/2/SoD, NWN, Torment, IWD on my SD but that is not going to happen I'm afraid. This means I have to redownload these games many times when I'd like to try a newly bought game because I'm too low on storage space.

Is there a way to move Beamdog's games to SD storage, and copy it back to local storage when I want to play? I tried but Google Play/device won't recognize the game anymore when I do.
I thought GPlay was like Steam: You download a game or restore a backup, Steam it checks if you really own the game and allows you start it. Why can we restore purchases in apps but not restore a game? GPlay makes it so complicated.

Any advice (except for buying a new phone, or git gud ;-) )?

Torn between three Charnames. Please help me make up my mind!

I am completely torn between three Charnames and I can't, for the life of me, choose which one to settle on. I'm basically doing three concurrent playthroughs - I'm around level 5 in each - yet the constant switching between characters and replaying the same areas is seriously starting to bug me. I also know that I simply don't have the time to take them all through the trilogy. I need to choose one and play on and forget about the rest.

The Charnames are:

1. Henry III - Human, Lawful Good, Inquisitor
2. Samwise - Human, Chaotic Good. Stalker, rolled with the intent of dualing to Cleric at level 13
3. Rollo - Half-Orc Cleric/Thief, Chaotic Good

My rationale for each of them is as follows:

1. My first ever Charname, back in 2000, was a paladin, and I haven't played a paladin since. So going through the trilogy with a Paladin charname has serious nostalgia value for me. Also, playing an Inquisitor would allow me to discharge Keldorn in SoA and avoid the massive guilt trip that follows keeping the man from his family. Having an Inquisitor would also greatly help with SCS mage battles. On the flip side, Inquisitors are kind of straightforward, and I am afraid of getting bored.
2. I'm absolutely fascinated with the idea of a Stalker > Cleric dual-class. A backstabbing warrior-priest with both cleric and druidic spells ! (And yes, I have manually unnerfed R/C spellcasting.) Dualing at 13, I'd get max APR, Stalker spells and x3 backstab, augmented to x4 with Stalker gauntlets made available in BG2 by the Unofficial item pack mod. My only gripe with this build is that it suffers massively from the "waiting to start living syndrome" - it would take me 2,850,000XP to even unlock the full class, which is mid-to-late SoA. Also, I'm not 100% sure if backstab is worth the missed warrior HLAs.
3. Thief/Cleric is something I've always dismissed outright. However, after having Tiax and Glint in my parties, I've become very interested in the class. A powergamey half-orc priest backstabbing people with a quarterstaff does seem to hold up - at least in the first game. My biggest concern is mid-to-late SoA and endgame viability.

Any thoughts and feedback would be much appreciated!

Are Belt and Liia Jannath supposed to be pushovers? (spoiler warning)

So, I'm doing a solo run as a sorcerer and just did the little even at Duchal Palace. My question is really regarding our dear Grand Dukes, who died like flies the first few tries. Liia Jannath is supposed to be "a mage of no small power" according to herself, and yet all she does is run around with her dagger trying to kill the doppelgangers. A few spells, stoneskin etc would be a nice addition to her. She shouldn't be trying to melee them at least. Belt is supposed to be a lvl 19 fighter according to http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Belt and yet he dies quite easily as well. Must be a day off for him... Is this working as intended? @Dee

I has been bugging me for some time: why does the Amaunator avatar give you a shield that belongs to Bane worshippers? It is even called the Saving Grace! image Are there other little inconsistencies in the game bug you? PS: Hurray my first evil party in BG2, Dorn's wedding crashing ability really lowered my reputation. There seems to be very few banters though.

How do you feel about multiclasses from a roleplaying perspective?

$

I feel like the single classes are cohesive archetypes, but the multiclasses get weird.

A fighter is a fighter. A thief is a thief. But once you start getting into fighter/thieves that kind of dilutes the core concept, since you're drawing from both pools.

Sometimes I get more excited about multiclasses if I come up with a new archetype that meshes both. Like a mage/thief might be a Magician, with a robust "Bag of Tricks", equal parts slight of hand and legit magic.

When you multiclass a something like a mage/thief, do you tend to think of it just as somebody who's trained in both the arts of magery and thievery? Or do you try to mesh both concepts under a singular new banner?

I want to delete certain parts of .BIF files, specifically the .CHR files that don't need. I can no longer get this to work. The Delete option is grayed out on most things. Strange thing is, I know I have done this before. Can anyone help? Has this changed or have I just forgotten how I've done this lol.

Raising Charname - Minimal Reload Thread (BG1-SoD-BG2 Spoilers)

Hello, since we have an official no-reload thread managed by @Ygramul , I thought we could use an official minimal reload thread to go along with it. This thread will be for people like me who lose their no-reload status, but would like to continue sharing their runs. The main spirit of a good minimal reload is that, first, you only reload if Charname dies. Under no other circumstance can you reload and still consider it a minimal reload. If you think there should be an exception to this rule, it's okay, but just explain that you reloaded and why. The second element of a good minimal reload, is that you keep a counter at the bottom of your posts of how many times you have reloaded, and preferably keep a list of why Charname died and where. The last thing is that you should share your game build, that is, tell what mods you have if any, and give full disclosure about difficulty settings and the like. So, those are the "rules", but they are flexible as long as you explain your reasoning why you "bent" or "broke" the "rules". So, without further ado, here is my current run. I am using version 2.0 without any mods, Core Rules. I first lost my no-reload status during Neera's encounter. It has been changed and re-scripted to make it much more difficult. I kind of got sore and made some sour-grapes posts about that in the no-reload thread. Sorry about that. I've calmed down and accepted that I am playing a BG game that has a lot of changes in it that I don't know about yet, and some dying to those changes is inevitable. After I decided to keep playing and not accept that first death as legitimate, I now have had Charname die without any question of the fairness of the death. I was just plain careless and stupid. I tried to tank an ettercap in a "you have been waylaid..." encounter in the Cloakwood. I got poisoned. I tried to use Bhaalspawn Slow Poison, and it got interrupted. I then tried to drink an antidote, but my aura wasn't clear, so it was far too late. End of no-reload, no argument possible. ;) One thing I really like about 2.0 is that you can see in a single screenshot of the quest journal exactly where I am in the game now without my having to explain it.

Reloads: 2 - Neera's encounter, ettercap random encounter in the Cloakwood Come on, all minimal reloaders! Let's share our runs, even with very short posts showing the quest journal and a reload counter, and make this a thing in our forums! Who will be the first to do a complete minimal reload of the entire trilogy including SoD, with fewer than 5-10 reloads?

[Zoom] Is it possible to set min/max values?

Hello, everyone.

I was wondering whether it is possible to set minimum and maximum zoom values for the Enhanced Edition via LUA settings?

I would like my maximum zoom-in to be the equivalent (or roughly the equivalent) of playing at a native resolution of 1280x720. Currently the game allows for much closer zoom than this.

Thanks!

What are your favorite quotes, dialogs, and NPCs from the new content? (spoilers)

Here are some of mine: "I try to have at least three phenomenally bad ideas a day. I'm counting this place as two." ~Charname, spoken to Dragomir. (I actually like a lot of Charname's responses in Dragomir's tomb but this is the best one.) I like the monk that guards the bridge to the twofold temple. It is funny how subtly moronic he is. One of my favorite parts of that dialog:
Charname: "How is it someone whose skull has never known the moist, warm touch of a brain can remember to breathe?" Monk: "What're you getting at?" Charname: "You're not very smart, are you? Quite the opposite, in fact. You're stupid. A dunderheaded moron. An idiot. A cretin. An oaf of such staggering thick-headedness that even other oafs look at you and say, "Wow, what a dimwitted simpleton he is." You're an imbecile, a dolt, a lackwit so lacking in wits that I can feel my mind growing more sluggish and dull each passing second I talk with you. You're senseless, obtuse, laughably thick: a clodpate. In short, what I'm saying, you lethargic dullard, is that you're a brainless lout too stupid to live. Therefore, and I say this with absolutely no regret whatsoever, I am going to kill you." Monk: "Huh?" Charname: "Just draw your sword and die, already." Monk: "You think I'm stupid, PRO_RACE? I'll show you stupid!"
Then there is Baeloth. He is just great. One of these days I will have to finish the Black Pits 1&2... Wilson's dialogs are funny too:
Wilson: "Growl?" Charname: "I am CHARNAME. What are you called?" Wilson: "Growl. Growl growl." Charname: "You call yourself Wilson? How pedestrian." Wilson: "Snuffle growl." Charname: "Forgive me. I didn't realize it was so common. To be honest, I've not had the opportunity to speak with many bears." Neera: "Uh... You know that's a bear you're talking to, right?"
Does anyone else have any favorites in the new content?

I thought this would be a fun board to make. Let's talk about things that you always find yourself doing everytime you do a playthrough. My personal favorite? Killing the entire Temple of Umberlee in Baldur's Gate. And sometimes, just to put a cherry on that sundae I kill the entire Umberlee Temple in Brynnlaw too.

This is our final issue as we go on hiatus... and it's a big issue! :)

Front and centre is a grotesque goblin wonderfully illustrated by @ashafetov, along with two massive headliners: interviews with Andrew Foley (of EE and SoD fame) and Ellipsis Stephens of Goblins fame. The two creators have generously taken their time to answer A LOT of questions. Seriously, I was surprised at the responses. :)

@AndrewFoley discusses his life, D&D, M'Khiin, Siege of Dragonspear, and what could have been. Ellipsis Stephens discusses her life, D&D, transitioning, and her Goblins comic. Following the interview with Andrew Foley, @semiticgod tells us why he appreciates M'Khiin, the goblin shaman in Siege of Dragonspear.

Metalheads, don't miss @Fandraxx's epic, 12-page review of the musical fantasy story of Rhapsody of Fire: The Emerald Sword Saga, wherein he reviews FIVE METAL ALBUMS! As a metal fan, it's always made me happy each issue to see Fandraxx's latest album reviews. And with this final issue, he went all out, soaring and roaring like a true metalhead.

Meanwhile, @deltago gives his first impressions of Goblins of Elderstone, then subjects himself to watching Troll 2. (Hey, I had to review The Star Wars Holiday Special last issue!) Taking it safe, I summarize the scant D&D info out there on roleplaying a goblin in PnP. I also review Jim Hines' Goblin Quest trilogy. (Spoiler alert: It beats watching Wookie Life Day.)

And to end it? @lolien writes a touching letter to @Anduin. Appropriately for these forums, the magazine is capped off with broccoli, cauliflower, and mushroom.

Safe paths, all. And remember to gather your party before venturing forth. :)

I didn't realize that was supposed to be a gnome! If that's accurate, that's a neat choice. Really different from the other gnome options. Anybody know where they're getting this information from?

I'm so I since I emitted that I do like to imagine forum members, (mostly those I tend to have shared more than one actual conversation with) as PC in faerun and the forgotten realms I figured I'll start this topic.

I've decided I'll make this a little pet project, for when I get too depressed yo working on my comic (which seems to be every day now).

So here is the question, what is your...

Class
Race
Gender

For fun ill sketch it, or do a full illustration, or just a portrait.

Things to note:
This is a little side project for me, how fast I update depends on life, work, commissions, and whether not I'm going through yet another 'i give up drawing" episode.

So I think I've included everything. Also, no I'm not counting specific items from the game or dnd lore. That would require more research than I'm willing to do on my part. I do welcome small specific details, (scar on the face, or missing limbs), but lets not get crazy.

Utility, Effectiveness, and Niche of Bards AD&D vs 3.x vs 4 vs 5

What are you guys' opinions on Bard(s) in the tabletop versions of D&D in the thread title, but also crpgs, both Beamdog remastered ones and other ones.
It's rather difficult for me to justify using Bard characters in the D&D computer games (and probably tabletop too) considering it's a low number of party members generally. It makes me think almost like Bard's and Thieves should be a unified class. Or at least a Thief subclass which removes a Bard's more limited Arcane abilities but keeps their other skills.

The General Questions Thread

So I got to thinking, while I often have general questions about various aspects of the game, it's rather bothersome to clutter up the activity page with random questions, especially when I have as many as I do. So I came up with this idea. This is a general questions thread that anyone can contribute to, both with questions and answers. Ask a question, hopefully it'll be answered. (and with the efficiency of the community here, I wouldn't be surprised if it's answered rapidly.) I doubt things will become too cluttered, so it'll be a nice way for us to help each other out. Now, I don't THINK this has been done before, but if so, then do what needs to be done, dear mods, as you generally know best. Without further explanation, here's the first question I have. If I were to complete Anomen's quest line, would he retain the stat boost if I teleport him to me in ToB? The character I'm working with would be unlikely to take him through all of SoA, but due to Aerie's... "problems" in ToB, my main character would want to leave her where she's safe, but that leaves a clerical gap in the party. Obviously Anomen would fill that hole nicely, but I don't know if he'll keep all of his bonuses from me completing his quest. In theory, I will be taking only five characters through the end of SoA, so if I have to bring Anomen along it's not a deal breaker, but for RP reasons it makes more sense to simply bring him to me when I need him.

If Beamdog would make a new D&D game, where should it be set?

Good day! After getting some D&D news, I was kinda hyped for new settings (especially Ravnica later this year) and then remembered that it was quite a while since we last had a D&D game, especially one not in Ferûn.. So, if Beamdog would make a D&D game, which setting would you like? Since I assume that Wizards would demand that a completly new game I gave the current setting, as well as Ravenloft and Greyhawk. Thank you for your time!
