How i solo Melissan??

I an playing as a solo sorcerer(DD), din't had much problem on base game, but on the throne of bhaal, with bosses behind an very long conversaion(that you can't skip and can't save after the conversation, making retries very costly) and very long bosses fights that can use infinite spells, summon multiple creatures without any limitation and be immune to time stop(how this is possible?), was very hard to play the thone of bhaal, this to not mentions the ultra small "arenas" that you can't even leave by no reasons. Took hours to beat Ravager, but Melissan, even following guides, i can't do anything. Slayer form? No damage. Black blade of disaster? He dispels you and ... No damage. Lower his magic resist with spell trigger + lower resist? Spells still deal almost no damage while she can summon an army of Death tyrant to kill you.

Aparenlty there are an "puzzle" involving the scenario to deal with her and sorry but i usually hate puzzles. Maybe i will put on story mode, only to see the ending because this is not fair. Bosses should magic should work in the same way that players magic works.

http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/Walkthrough2/ToB/chapter-10/chapter-10-overview.php

Mephistopheles on hardest difficulty on NWN1 - HotU expansion was an piece of cake compared to her. The Dracolich too. And the best part. On NWN1 i can save in fights, so i don't need to see the same dialog 500 times if i need to re try 500 times. And even this epic bosses, operates under the same rules of the players, without gimmicky scenario BS.

Let her in near death(because she doesn't operate under the same logic of you MC) without killing her to try use the scenario to disable an power that you supposed to have too is extremely silly and makes no sense. Throne of bhaal is nothing compared to the base game IMO.

Your Most Epic Moments

Recently I've been inspired by a board I saw called "Your Greatest Facepalm Moments" so I decided to start 2018 off with a bang by creating the opposite of that. What are some of your most epic moments? Thoroughly crushing your enemies? Fighting for ages and barely escaping with your life? Performing the most amazing and hard fought near victory you ever had in your life that would rival an anime battle? Pulling off an incredible feat that you swear you couldn't do again if you tried? Taking very little damage from something that is supposed to annihilate you? A combination of these? Post your most amazing and epic moments ever right here in my very first board of 2018.

No-Reload Run: Looking for Late Game Advice

So 4th times the charm and I've made it to Chapter 7 of Baldur's Gate in my no-reload run.

I'm currently planning on taking care of Durlag's Tower followed by Shandalar's Cloak and the Isle of Balduran before going to take on the actual events of Chapter 7 as well as Siege of Dragonspear.

Any advice for someone new at this on what order I should do things and tips for how to move forward.

It would take too much time than I have right now to chronicle all of my stuff but suffice to say my party is:

1. Sovrek Level 7 Half-Elf Beastmaster
2. Jaheria Lv. 6 Fighter/7 Druid
3. Khalid 7 Fighter
4. Ajantis 7 Paladin
5. Neera 7 Wild Mage (Xan died and Dynaheir was sent off)
6. Imoen 8 Thief

We have currently cleared about half of Durlag's Tower Level 1 but I'm paranoid that things won't continue to go as smoothly. I would appreciate any advice on how to move forward.

Are rangers underpowered and lack definition?

Rangers are my favorite class, fluffwise. In the crunch however, at least in context of IE games, they seem to be subpar to a simple true class fighter. Yes, fixed Archer is a solid kit, and of course nerfed Cleric/Ranger is still one of the more powerful classes, but even devs felt the need to give special boosting equipment to a Stalker, who is arguably almost strictly better than pure Rangers. What's worse, unlike Bards and Druids (other non-power classes), they don't bring anything particularly useful and unique to the party. They play just as a fighter, just with worse fighting skills and a couple of weak prebuffs. * Of their Druidic spells, only AoF makes any difference and that only at really high levels. * Sneaking is a good skill, but not really dependable until the end of BG1 and much less useful in the sequels. * Charm animal doesn't deserve a mention; * Free dual wielding is indeed a real advantage over vanilla fighters in BG1, but after that goes away. * I guess racial enemy is authentically useful, but, thankfully, enemies are varied, so it's a bit of a one-trick pony and most difficult fights are generally against humans and similar. And for those minor, mostly flavour boons, they are nerfed with; * Slower progression * Capped proficiences to specialization * Silly alignment restriction * Real danger of falling and losing powers - even accidently due to a failed charm and AI. I don't believe that all classes should or can be equally powerful, but Rangers don't play any different to regular fighters and seem like their weak country cousins. Paladins offer more for the same restrictions and have even better kits to boot. Do I miss something crucial about them? Are there mods which make them more distinct? Something giving a tactical advantage justifying sacrificing the penalty to their main role of killing things?

Pros and Cons of Dual-Classing my Beastmaster?

I'm considering Dual-Classing my Beastmaster into a Cleric (I have mods allowing me to do this) when I get to BG2 and I was pondering the pros and cons of doing this. Please help me make a decision.

Can a good cleric summon skeleton warriors?

Hello, friends. I just finished a play session where I let Branwen use her Animate Dead spells to summon a small army of four skeleton warriors to decimate the sirens on the west coast. I also used the two she had at the time to beat Davaeorn by drawing out his Fireball and Lightning Bolt spells harmlessly against the skellies while the party waited. I've never really used the cleric Animate Dead spell much before, because I always play good clerics. I decided to let Branwen do it this time because of her neutral alignment, and because her Tempus seems like a deity that would allow the use of dead warrior spirits to his clerics if any god would, other than the obvious "Dead Three", Kelemvor, and most evil deities. I still felt guilty. It felt like giving in to the Dark Side. Also, good clerics of the actual deities represented in the vanilla game without mods are supposed to be of either Tyr or Lathander. Surely Lathander would not condone Animating Dead skellie warriors, much less give such a spell to his clerics. Maybe Tyr would. Maybe. What about Helm? I think Helm would do it before Lathander or Tyr, because skellie warriors make good guardians, and the protection of all guardians and their duties is his main portfolio. Talos probably couldn't care less, but armies of skeletons don't seem to be his style. (Blast enemies with storms of flame and lightning, not raising undead armies.) So, I'd like to hear your justifications and rationalizations, if you use Animate Dead with your good clerics. Also, please justify the deity you imagine granting Animate Dead spells to his or her clerics being consistent with FR lore to do that. I think @Vallmyr and @Dee might be especially interested in this topic.

Help! Stuck in Durlag's Tower (spoilers)

I'm in trouble. I'm doing a minimal reload run, so "reload and try again" would be my last option. This is what happened:
6cwjwdob4ze8.jpg

I got teleported on the chess board, so I can't go back. I went through that door and downstairs, met the ghost of Durlag who told me what I'd have to do, and his wife offered me the option to transport me out.
I've put all my companions' stuff into a container so that it won't disappear.

If I accept Islanne's offer to teleport me out of there, will I be able to go back after Raising my companions, to get their stuff and maybe even finish the tower?

If it's not possible to go back after being sent out by Islanne, will I be able to get back into the tower if I finish it going solo? And yes, I know that would be very difficult, especially because it's my first time in Durlag's Tower (if you don't count a run in 1999 or 2000 which I don't remember), but that's not the point.

I'd really, really appreciate any help. I'd just try to go ahead, but it would be frustrating to notice after several hours that I'd have to reload anyway and then repeat everything.

I like the gameplay of the cleric spells a lot, but I just hate it from a roleplay perspective.

Struck by lightning, twice!

My fighter/mage just got *twice* struck by lightning (from the weather, not a spell) on the Valley of the Tombs map within the space of about a minute in real time, she was wearing plate mail at the time - 25 points damage each hit, though luckily she had 50 HP and Viconia managed to cast Cure Medium Wounds in-between! Never had that happen before (not twice, anyway), though I could see the funny side!

SoD weather effects in BG, BG2?

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the atmospheric effects of SoD in BG1 and BG2? Specifically the rolling fog and cloud effects during bad weather. I've found I miss those quite a bit since leaving SoD. I know the heated air effects over lava are probably baked in, but it would be nice to see the cloud/fog layer.

Also, apologies if this has been asked and answered before. I couldn't find the search function and I've looked quite a bit.

The description of Heal is quite ambiguous. It says it "cures those mental disorders caused by spells or injury to the brain". What disorders are those?

Or do they just like wake up in the morning with a new spell in their head, and maybe it suits them or maybe it doesn't?

Does the xp table of druid from 14 to 15 make any sense?

I read that the huge amount of xp you're required is due to the fact that you are supposed to be the only archdruid in the whole earth. So I was wondering, should I install mods that rework the xp table?

I also read that after you level up, you get from 28 to 42 spells. So... any suggestion is welcome.

What's Your Signature Weapon and Armor?

$

A simple question: if you were in a fantasy environment like Faerun, what weapons and armor, if any, would best suit you?

The choice doesn't need to be realistic, and you don't need to factor in weather or expense. This is more about your personal style and preference rather than realism or safety (otherwise, how many people would say no to full plate mail?).

What would you wield and what would you wear if you were an adventurer?

The mechanics of Dispel/Remove magic

$

There are several threads in this forum about the spells Dispel Magic and Remove Magic, but AFAIK none of them covers in depth their mechanics.

I have gathered information about these spells from several places and this is what I got:
  • In spite of what the description says, low level casters don’t have a 1% chance of dispelling effects from high level casters. Their chance is actually 0.
  • Both spells display the message "Dispel Effects" in the combat log and a visual effect even if nothing gets dispelled.
  • Some magic effects are not dispellable. This include deafness, poison, stun, swarmed (from Summon Insects), bad luck (from Wish), decaying (from Dolorous Decay), doom, greater malison, held, magic resistance lowered, miscast magic, silence, unconsciousness, spell failure (from Insect Plague), and spell protections like Spell Turning or Spell Deflection.
  • The target's Magic Resistance, if any, does not affect this spell.
  • The only way to protect from these spells is using Spell Immunity: Abjuration.
  • When they are cast on a target affected by magic effects from several casters, the chance of dispelling is calculated separately for the effects created by each caster. The chances of dispelling the effects created by a high level caster are lower than the chances of dispelling the effects created by a low level caster even if they are all present in the same character.

Is this correct?

Even if the last point is correct, it is unclear how many rolls are made when one of these spells hits a creature. For example, let's say a creature has four buffs, two from one allied mage and the other two from another one. Then an enemy mage casts Remove Magic on the creature. Is there a single roll for all four buffs? Or two rolls, one for the buffs of the first mage and another one for the buffs or the second mage? Or four rolls, one for each effect?

[BUILD] Paladin Of Lathander

Hi everyone!
After all these years human needs to make ideas to keep the game interesting. I came up with an idea: Priest of Lathander to Fighter dual class aka Paladin of Lathander. Let's look at what we can get. I would dual on the 9th level so I can unlock first class in SoD.
So as a pure Paladin we get access to 4th level cleric spells at level 15th. With our build, we get access to 5th level at level 9th. So Spell-speaking we are better than pure Paladin.
Turn-undead will be probably better for Paladin on high levels but we will not use it so it doesn’t matter.
Fighter levels give us Thac0, ApR, Greater Specialization and Fighter HLA.
High wisdom give us more spells per level – pure paladins don’t have that.
From cleric levels, we get 9 round Boon of Lathander and access to Righteous Magic also 9 round.
Righteous Magic is basically a variation of Kai or Offensive Spin for us, and it lasts 9 rounds!

On paper, this build looks very promising. What do you think? Am I missing some major cons? Or will it actually work very well?

Is there any combination of Mage>Cleric, Cleric>Mage That has an end result of Mage avatar? I love the different robe looks but every time I do any combination or multi it is always the Cleric avatar. Kinda drives me nuts. Is it like DNA and the Mage is always the weaker gene?

How do you prevent your divine casters from being dispelled?

$

Dispel has always been a huge issue to my divine casters, yet I rarely see it being talked about on these boards.

With SCS, basically every tough fight in SoA/ToB begins with a bunch of Dispel/Remove magics thrown around. Arcane casters can easily ward against this with Spell Immunity: Abjuration, but my divine casters invariably get all of their buffs and protections removed in a jiffy.

Am I overlooking some really basic strategy, or is there really no way to avoid getting dispelled as a priest? I know people have soloed SCS with divine casters, so there must be some way to work around this.
