Solo Storylore Elven FMT - Remove Exp Cap? Should I play something else?

$

I intended to play every quest, explore every map and zone, and immerse myself in the glory of this game. I've only solo beat the game as a FMT but I truly love the power with the class. 10apr, 25 str, stoneskins, mirror images, spell immunities to make liches and dragons a breeze, killing drizzt, easy exp in BGEE from dryads and spell protection petrification basilisk hunting, running around like a hasted god, the list goes on. I usually play chatoic good or neutral evil, might change it up this time. I like power. Early game, Scimitars/Katana, into Drizzt Scimitars, into Celestial Fury/Belm, into Crom Faeyr/Scarlet Ninja-to. Pretty much best in breed. I could list traps as a strength, but honestly I feel that they are too cheese... time stop, sleep spam 7 traps, i dunno. Doesn't feel rewarding to beat stuff that way.

Kind of bummed my favorite solo character can't use HLAs from the mage kit. I was wondering if (1) it would be considered a faux pas to remove the exp cap and (this is hard to answer) (2) should I play a FMT again? Truly like the versatility, being able to do/see every locked chest and closed room or should I try and play something else that you think I might enjoy more, or just as much? I've gotten an inquisitor to the end game, but not beaten the final boss, and I've gotten a sorc through BGEE. Just want to fresh it up and see all the zones etc.

I quite literally can't STAND doing a full party due to being spoiled with haste and tactics only solo players can do, slow 6 person parties aren't ideal but I will miss out on a lot of the core gameplay and storytelling :(

Here's my usual build:

Hullo, how do I use EE Keeper on my android phone?

Heey, my question is pretty much in the title.. I've just bought bgee for my android and I'm loving it! But I'm sure I can use EE Keeper for it, I'm just not sure how..

I've downloaded EE Keeper on this phone, but it's asking me what program/app I want to open it in - I have no idea =S

Or have I got the wrong idea, do I need to use the EE Keeper on my PC to somehow edit my android files? If so, what's the best way to move files across and back from my phone to PC? I've just been using email/dropbox the few times I've had to move a photo or something..

I'm fairly computer literate, but this is the first smartphone I've owned and it's pretty new so I'm still getting my head around it - so any more in depth replies would be much appreciated =)

Thank you,

Uncumber

P.s. I have tried googling this but couldn't find anything, so apologies if this has already been covered a hundred times!

"What the bloody hell is a waifu/ husbando?!", I hear you ask.
Waifu/ husbando is internet/ weeaboo slang for a (usually) fictional character you have a crush on.

Basically, weird fanboy/girl stuff :D

So yeah, tell us who your's is and why!
The weirder this gets, the better.

What would be the most difficult mage specialist/kit for you to play?

This isn't really a thread about the best mage kit per-se. Realizing that mages are ultimately very powerful either way, I'm just curious what mage specialist/kit you would find to be the most difficult to play in BGEE/BG2EE. This will entirely depend on what spells you like to regularly use.

Me personally it would be the Abjurer. My character would get no Stoneskin, Slow, Haste, Teleport Field, Time Stop, Burning Hands (nice for trolls), etc.

Ki-Rin

In all long history of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights, I have yet to see the Ki-Rin come to life on my monitor. Dating way back to the original Monster Manual, way before Solars and Devas, the Ki-Rin was at the time perhaps the most powerful good-aligned creature in D&D. It had access to 9th level mage spells, along with some good resistances, special abilities, and extra-planar properties.

It's origins come from Asia, where it was sometimes called a Qilin, and it appears in stories from ancient China and Japan. It even appears in some Buddhist writings. In all cases, the appearance of a Ki-Rin (Qilin) is a good thing. In truth, there is some evidence that this magical beast may have some association with the very real Giraffe, which has the horn-like protrusions, multi-colored coat, and fantastic appearance. How appropriate then, for bits of the Ki-Rin to be added to Magritte's "Le Blanc-Seing" in the final cover art for Styx's "Grand Illusion" album ... but I have not seen this elusive creature since. Would not the appearance of a Ki-Rin in a new Beamdog game be a good thing?

BG/SoD/BGII v. 2.4 - what will it add/change?

Guys,
do you know/what do you think version 2.4 will brong?

Will 2.4 better integrate SoD with BGI&II?
Is there any chance they will change some plot points, cutscanes or ending in SoD?
Maybe new chars, quests, items?

Just before being sent to spellhold, she's desperate, not insane.

After her soul is drained, she loses it.

In spellhold, she's clearly out of her mind, makes no sense whatsoever.

After Irenicus steals your divinity, shes just fine, and perfectly intelligent.

What happened?

The General Questions Thread

So I got to thinking, while I often have general questions about various aspects of the game, it's rather bothersome to clutter up the activity page with random questions, especially when I have as many as I do. So I came up with this idea. This is a general questions thread that anyone can contribute to, both with questions and answers. Ask a question, hopefully it'll be answered. (and with the efficiency of the community here, I wouldn't be surprised if it's answered rapidly.) I doubt things will become too cluttered, so it'll be a nice way for us to help each other out. Now, I don't THINK this has been done before, but if so, then do what needs to be done, dear mods, as you generally know best. Without further explanation, here's the first question I have.

If I were to complete Anomen's quest line, would he retain the stat boost if I teleport him to me in ToB? The character I'm working with would be unlikely to take him through all of SoA, but due to Aerie's... "problems" in ToB, my main character would want to leave her where she's safe, but that leaves a clerical gap in the party. Obviously Anomen would fill that hole nicely, but I don't know if he'll keep all of his bonuses from me completing his quest. In theory, I will be taking only five characters through the end of SoA, so if I have to bring Anomen along it's not a deal breaker, but for RP reasons it makes more sense to simply bring him to me when I need him.

So what is your canonical Charname and his company? Mine is Cavalier of Tyr Bg1 party Khalid Jaheira Minsc Dynaheir and Imoen. SoD party Khalid Jaheira Minsc Dynahrir and Corwin. BG2 party Minsc Jaheira Yoshimo and then Imoen Aerie and Sarevok ( changed to chaotic good of course). Romance with Aerie and all quests for posible party members done (without those evil ones).

All you wanted to know about the next Beamdog's project

I think the time has come for a new "All you wanted to know about" thread.

Brus here suggested we should call it Project Fireball, X,Storm,Severance,Sanctuary,Hurricane,Realm Z,Ivory Plane,Sapphire, Soul Nexus etc. I agree because right now we still haven't heard an official word defining which particular project is in the works.

But a certain project is indeed in the works, there's no doubt about that.

In the end of 2015, there was a meeting between Beamdog and WotC, after which plans for the next years became known in-house.

In December 2015, the main site of Beamdog offered 3 new vacant jobs, with the description that "more original content is on the horizon."

David Gaider soon joined the team.

According to Andrew Foley, Beamdog are currently (as of April, 2016) further ahead on developing it than they were on SoD in January 2014.

Phillip Daigle said in an interview to RPGamer in March, 2016: "We'd like to continue working with Wizards of the Coast on Dungeons & Dragons titles. We love D&D and we love making D&D games. At the same time, however, we're also going to be developing our own projects and brands. For now I can't reveal anything, but going forward you'll see both great licensed and original IP projects from Beamdog."

http://www.rpgamer.com/games/dnd/bgenh/bgenhsodint.html

It reads that they know already there will be both licensed and original IP projects.

Here're the main versions and evidence presented:

Version 1. PSTEE (Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition)

1.

It's a tweet by Trent Oster from March, 2012.

2. "I've been getting a lot of requests for a revisit of [Planescape:] Torment," Cameron Tofer told http://www.shacknews.com/. "We would love to have the opportunity to do it."

It's a news bit from March, 2012.

3. "Hmm. We have a Planescape.zip file here that seems to have a bunch of source codey stuff in it ;-)

-Trent"

It's a comment by Trent Oster from August, 2012.

4. The IP regarding Planescape: Torment is the property of Hasbro, and we all know Beamdog are good friends of Hasbro.

5. WotC, a subsidiary of Hasbro, "would absolutely consider licensing out Planescape, or any of their other great D&D IPs, if they were approached with a proposal".

It's a quote by WotC from 11/02/2013.

So, WotC sees Planescape Torment as one of their D&D IPs.

6. "I'm sure we could add some real value to a PS:T:EE if we were ever able to do it. Make it available on multiple platforms, for instance. It's my favorite game and I hope we get a chance to work on it some day."

It's a comment by Amber Scott from March, 2015.

7. In an AMA from 1 year ago, Trent Oster on the question about enhancing IWD2 or PST, mentioned only Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition: "besides from having too many colons in the title, is something we are interested in working on".

8. In a recent interview to Kotaku, Trent Oster admitted (on the possibility of going their own way, making their own universe fantasy universe) that he didn’t want to leave the past behind, not yet.

9. Go to 1:19:30 from the most recent Arv interview with Trent Oster and Phillip Daigle:

image

10. Buttercheese (Tari Toons) created a doodle based on that moment, which was retweeted by both by Trent Oster and Phillip Daigle:

11. Chris Avellone, a Lead Designer on PST and a Narrative Consultant for SoD, when answering several questions on http://www.rpgcodex.net/ once said:

"Beamdog and Torment possibility: I'd love to if the chance existed."

12. Later this year TToN will be released, which will create a wave of nostalgia for PST, and there probably won't be a better time to release PSTEE.

Version 2. A new game

1. "I don't think it's some big secret that we're interested in continuing work on original BG-style games in the future. We love the genre, we love playing the games, and we know how to build them.

If we were to make an expansion or DLC for an existing game like BG2EE or IWDEE it would retain the same ruleset as the base game.

Any new D&D games that get made would use 5th Edition."

It's a comment by Phillip Daigle from January, 2016.

2. "our plans for the future. We want to leave the IE-era games in an excellent state and then move on to something more modern eventually."

It's a comment by Phillip Daigle from February, 2016.

3. Andrew Foley in February, 2016, liked this comment:

"It (PSTEE) would be nice, but at the moment I would rather see new content such as icewind dale 3 , iwd2 ee with a new expansion or a brand new IE game."

4. The same quote from the recent interview to Kotaku as in the Version 1:

"Whereas D&D, I have all that knowledge and if I want some more knowledge I can just go on the internet or pop open a rule book. To me, that’s just the power that D&D has that crafting your own stuff from scratch just cannot have." - it could be just pointing to the fact a new game would be based on D&D, it shouldn't specifically be about PSTEE.

5. In April, 2016, David Gaider tweeted this:

And Phillip Daigle mentioned that document had something to do with Bhaal:

6. David Gaider is a Creative Director at Beamdog, so it basically means he has much more ideas than content for an EE.

Maybe two projects (an EE of an existing title and a new IP) are being worked on in the same time?

Like a new EE for now and a new IP for the more distant future, so that the situation about SoD sales etc could be more clear:

In the interview to to RPGamer in March, 2016 Phillip Daigle said: "We've got lots of ideas for spots in the Baldur's Gate series that could be filled in, but we're waiting to see what the reception to Siege of Dragonspear is like before we commit to anything major. First we need to see what the fans want, then we'll look at what we can deliver. We've also got an eye towards the future. The Infinity Engine was built almost 20 years ago and limits us in a lot of ways. We're actively exploring next-gen technology for some potential future games."

Version 3. Something else (IWD2EE anyone?)

1. In an interview with http://www.pcgamer.com Trent Oster mentioned:

"Icewind Dale II implemented the 3rd Edition rules and has a completely different UI scheme. We're really not sure how deep those changes run," Oster explained. "The move to 3rd Edition rules would invalidate all the character classes and require a pretty thorough rework of the entire game to bring in the features from our Infinity Plus Engine. At minimum, nightmares abound."

2. In an interview with http://venturebeat.com Trent Oster answered this question: "You talked about “nightmares” about the idea of working on enhanced editions for Icewind Dale II and Planescape: Torment. Is this still the case, or have you made any progress on Icewind Dale II at this point?"

Trent Oster: "We’ve yet to really dig into them. Torment is probably the easier of the two as the rules are at least similar. Icewind Dale II had a large deviation due to the move to 3rd Edition D&D rules. We’re still working on Infinity as we wrap up the 1.3 update for BGII. After the holidays, we’ll have more time to dig into the possibilities."

3. In the latest AMA an answer on PSTEE or IWD2EE was the same:

"We don't announce projects in development, but we do love the Infinity Engine and Forgotten Realms and would like to do more work on these games in the future."

"We usually don't comment about games in development, but we have said that we've been building up the capabilities of our team and we love the Forgotten Realms. We'd have to get a concept and bring people on board, but it's something we would love to do in the future."

The (solo no-reload) adventures of Norgath, dwarven Bounty Hunter of Candlekeep

With @semiticgod's exciting Spiders hunting after Melissan, @OlvynChuru's Jester continuing his pacifist mass murdering ways, and @bengoshi's archdruid Yahiko still going strong, I felt the need to try my hand again at an ambitious solo adventure. My other, more roleplayed run with a custom party is still in progress (and will be updated sometime soon I hope). In order not to confuse both journals, I decided to make a separate thread for this run. Besides, who knows what good not journaling the current run in a thread called We're All Doomed might do. ;)
Here is Norgath:
image
As I said, this is going to be an ambitious run, i.e. one that includes metagamimg. However, whether I want it or not, I always incorporate some roleplaying in my gaming, so it would be foolish to expect myself to behave differently this time. I have particular difficulty doing evil things with good characters, much more so than doing good things with evil characters. Therefore Norgath's Lawful Evil alignment is convenient. It allows him to do evil things (such as the Assassinations mod quests in BG2). At the same time his lawfulness and his calculating mind (note the excellent mental stats) ensure that his good actions make some sense to me as well. The physical stats are optimized for survivability purposes, with 19 CON, 20 with the Tome, minimizing the penalty to saves vs death when the Claw of Kazgaroth is equipped. CHA is a bit of a dumpstat, though I could have gone all the way to 2, and optimize INT and WIS. With 7 CHA (after the Tome), Norgath will just be an almost stereotypical blunt, surly Dwarf.

The most important mods I'm playing with are Ascension, QuestPack with its revised Hell Trials, Song & Silence, Rogue Rebalancing, SCS I and II (v21), Wheels of Prophecy, and aTweaks. Besides those, Thalatntyr's Item Upgrade in BG1 and Weimer's Item Upgrade in BG2 allow Norgath to get some items upgraded by Thalantyr and Cromwell respectively. Assassinations, Back to Brynnlaw, and Sellswords offer a couple of new adventures in SoA. Finally, I'm using a number of tweaks from BG2Tweaks and BGTTweaks that facilitate different aspects of gameplay. Most consequential are the Un-Nerfed Thac0 table, maximum HP at level up (but also max HP for all enemies), and importation of gear from BG1 into Irenicus' Dungeon.

I cheat a lot, and you? *Spoiler Warning*

$

I cheat almost always in my BG2 runs.
But I use mainly real life time saver cheats.

I had rolled in the past many charnames, I know the average stats that I can get rolling for 5 minutes, 1 hour or a whole afternoon, and what stats have the same chance as winning the national lottery. So I decide previously how high the stats will be, sometimes in the 10 min range and sometimes in the 2-3 hours one, and I cheat them in saving some time for real playing . But I never, outside testing purposes, cheat in illegal or unrealistic stats.

I use often some tricks to get more XP from the game, the ones that involve fighting, challenge and risk. I love to turn to stone Dragons, to get their XP, then turn them to flash again and repeat, until I am satisfied and satiated.
Sometimes I impose myself to heal them after reverting them to flash, for a little more challenge, sometimes I allow myself to Fleeblemind the first dragon, before turning it to stone for a reduced challenge. I also make good use of infinite spawning enemies and sometimes even gate in some demons just for the XP of the killing. But I never use the ranged attack from the walls of Saradush, as no risk and challenge is needed, or cheese like talking multiple times to get multiple quest XP.
This is maybe a cheese, but not a cheat, but I cheat also there.
When my party has petrified a dragon 5 times I know that it has the potential to do it other 100 times more, when the party has tanked the Demon Prince for half an hour real time to gain the XP of his infinite spawning enemies and is still full of HP and spell memorization ( thanks to spell trap or wish ) I know that it can do it for another week. So I feel not guilty to cheat in the needed XP and avoid to fight the same battle for forever, it become boring and real life time is limited.*

There are other cheats that I use, sometimes I want to have Imoen bard or dual FM, with only 4 fighter levels, or sorcerer, or maybe Nalia pure class or kitted thief, Mazzi multi. Sometimes I like to change weapon proficiences of some NPC's, almost always assign the sword and shield pips to something more usefull (imo S&S is a joke, completely wasted pips), or I want Korgan and Sarewok be GM in other weapons.
As long as I don't change the total of stats proficiencies and skills I feel free to do it and don't feel guilty about it.

There are other cheats I never use outside testing purposes, I never use CTR-Y or CTR-R, never give illegal stats, increased movement rate or APR or resistances or never cheat in equipment or weapons that are not available in that moment of the game. If I want Carsomyr for my pally he has to fight for it and wait until he have enough power to go there and get it. If I want speed boots for everybody the party has to go there and get them one by one and live with the fact that their number is limited so also the number of party members will be limited.

I am interested about how other players deal with the cheats, which ones they use or avoid and the reasons behind their choice.

*I know that using infinite XP tricks, even if "fair tricks", that involve risk and challenge, change the game balance.
But since in my modded game the balance is already changed and with the PWG strategies that I use my usual parties, even without farming bonus XP, are overpowered after just few quests for me is fine.
I like the RP idea of a charname and his party starting uderpowered against overpwered enemies (Tactics Iliych and so on), then growing fast to become the most powerful adventurers group in all Amn. In different runs I chose different quest order to fight them both with the OP and UP option. And when I am OP I try to not overkill, but use the power only as more versatility, to allow more tactics in the same battle. I give bonus XP according to that criteria, I don't want to reach XP cap at the first dragon.

Highest Damage Dual Weild

$

0
I have been googling a lot of threads recently to push the engine as high as I can go as far as solo damage power output without cheating or backstabbing.

I found a lot of threads with some misinformation so wanted to summon some of the best math-people around. I was actually hoping to get some spot checking on ideal dual weild builds for various classes. I posted this in another older thread but thought it might be better in a new one:
Best DMG is a F/M/T with Foebane in the mainhand, Scarlet Ninja To in the offhand, using helm with permanent bless and righteous magic charge, and the SOD belt apparently imports into bg2ee that gives 10% slashing damage, who has self buffed improved haste and has activated critical strike.

That is ideal and only happens for 1 minute (1 round) per day.

25 Str is more important than any weapon, so much so that even if you had 23 str you would still want to weild Crom. You should be aiming for as many APR as possible with IH. I don't really like using things that only last 1 turn (helm) or 1 round (gww).

Basically, you have to mainhand Crom Faeyr if you can't get your STR to 25. Clerics/Paladins can through rightous magic/duhm and Thieves can by UAI the rightous magic charge helmet. Any other class will need to use Crom mainhand. I would still recommend Crom for mainhand for any non-cleric as rightous magic is so short (only 1 minute real world time per rested day). Considerations below are for solo but work for groups too. The best "lazy man" damage per round is a FMT with Crom Faeyr, Scarlet Ninja-To offhand, Helmet

A F/M/T can have 10apr with Scarlet-Ninja To in the offhand. Recommended setup is Crom mainhand, scarlet ninja to offhand. When you want to do "AS MUCH AS THEORETICALLY POSSIBLE" you can put on the belt and helmet and use foebane for a minute every rested day and then switch back.

A Berserker-> Cleric can have 9apr with Defender of Easthaven in the offhand. Mainhand either Runehammer +5, Club of Detonation, etc. Choose carefully though as you can only choose 1 mainhand for 5 pip grandmastery.

A F/C can have 8apr with defender of easthaven in the offhand. Same rules for mainhand apply.

A F/M will want to use Crom/Belm and will only have 8apr.

A paladin will want to go either the dualweild build like the clerics at 8apr (WHY) or use my personal favorite (for flavor) Carsomyr +6 for 6apr.

Or you can be a super gay slowmotion tank and just play 5apr with flail of ages +5 and defender in offhand.
I think that's all 100% accurate but if someone wants to check my math out, they can.
