Best summon for a Dragon Disciple? [SCS; full party; no-reload; trilogy planning]

$

Assuming I'll make it alive to lvl 14, my options from there on seem to be:

1. Mordenkainen Sword:
Rumor has it that it's THAC0 10, APR 1, and hits as +4 - if correct, I can't see what the hype is.
(e.g. Firkragg is supposed to be AC -12; so basically the Sword will maybe hit it every 10 rounds or so)
Its immunities sound a cheesy tanking option, which I hope SCS actually annuls. (I'm not sure, but SCS mages probably also know to Magic Missile or Death Spell them to death or just ignore the sword.)

2. Djinn/Efreeti
In my tweak install they are "gated", i.e., they should not be susceptible to Death Spell. They are really annoying if hit by AoE spells of your party, if memory serves. (And they don't die easily: my recent Guarded Compound fight on the lower floor lasted some 20 minutes due to their Efreeti coming back like 4 times.)
Though I suppose Efreeti can be safely carpet-bombed with Incendiary Cloud/DBF/FB from the party and act as a perfect decoy. (Just not useful against Fire Giants and such...)

Djinn sounds like a finickier option, but perhaps offers other offensive capacity?

3. Pit Fiends [lvl 7 or 8 or 9]
Due to the competition of spell picks the lvl 7 version is perhaps best? Then there is the trouble of PfEvil management, in case someone uses Remove Magic on the party or you summon something else (Kithix, elemental staves etc.)

Others:
I imagine that Hakeshaar etc. are too risky and not worth the bother.

Skeleton Warriors may be nerfed in my install that replaces all +1 weapons with "fine" ones. (Haven't seen if that also applies to the lvl 15 version.)

Or should I just go summonless until I get to the planetar (if I survive that far).
I really would like a repeatable summon that can make a dent at the Dragons (which in my install have enhanced HP!).

Opinions very welcome.

You got it. Gl... oh wait thats not announced yet!

Rumour and speculation now abound. Choose what name you would like Gl... to turn into... Be prepared for nothing of the like actually appearing! Fun and messing around only peeps!

An analysis on Necromancy (Focus on IWD:EE but may apply to other games).

So, today I've decided I'm going to try and act like I know what I'm talking about and do an analysis on Necromancy spells within the infinity engine games. I'll go through each class that has a necromantic flavor and then compare wizard and cleric spells and abilities. Also, this primarily focuses on IWD:EE but information can be relevant to BG:EE and BG2:EE especially if you import IWD:EE's spells to them.

Classes:

Classes suitable to perform necromancy in my opinion are Wizards and Clerics as the top contenders followed by Blackguards, Bards, and Sorcerers. Monks can also have a necromantic flavor with the Dark Moon Monk and modded kits.

Human Wizards have access to the Necromancer specialist. They gain saves vs necro spells, one extra spell a day, and an increase in chance to scribe necromancy spells by 15%. They lose access to Illusion and Enchantment spell schools and have a -15% chance to scribe spells from non-necromancy spell schools. The Wizard seems to focus more on the "Black Magicks" side of things. Will go into more detail later. They can learn animate dead as a 5th level spell at level 9.

The Cleric is a divine spellcaster and is more suited for the "Master of Life and Death" type of necromancer. If you're good or neutral aligned you turn undead which first fears them but at later levels can outright destroy them. If you're evil you may rebuke undead. This will still fear them but instead of destroying them you dominate them under your control. Unlike the wizard, you lose out on many spells depending on your alignment. Good Clerics gain many life spells such as the powerful Resurrection while evil Clerics gain necrotic spells like Destruction and Wither. Neutral Clerics gain some of both. Will go into more detail later. Clerics learn animate dead the earliest as a 3rd level spell at level 5.

Blackguards make fine unholy warriors but certainly lack in the spells department. You won't be casting animate dead until level 13. Despite this, the Aura of Despair, Poison Weapon, and undead immunities make the Blackguard a great character if you want that black magic feel while being a primary melee character. Like the Cleric, they also gain the ability to rebuke weaker undead.

Bards learn the wizard necromancy spells but at a slower rate as they only start beginning learning the arcane from level 2 onwards and can only learn up to 8th level spells. They only gain one 8th level spell at level 29(!) which makes them not-so-great for a legit primary necromancer. There are mods you can use such as Song and Silence which adds a Dirgesinger Bard which has great necromantic flavor which a debuffing bard song and a SLA to animate dead at level 10. Unfortunately the Song and Silence kits only seem to currently be working in BG:EE and BG2:EE. IWD:EE the kits do not work to my knowledge. So, as a Bard, like the Blackguard, you will gain the ability to learn animate dead at 13. Keep in mind Bards level very quickly with their rogue level-progression.

Next are Sorcerers. It may be argued they can be equally good necromancers (well, they can actually); however, they do not have a great necromantic flavor as the Wizard has the Necromancer specialization and the Cleric has dominion over the dead as a modal ability. If you already have a scroll-learning character in IWD:EE it may be nice to have a sorcerer so they can innately learn all the necromancy spells. It may also be useful if you don't know where to find certain necromancy spell scrolls within the game. They learn animate dead as a 5th level spell at level 10.

Forgot about Monks on my initial writing of this. So Dark Moon Monks combine dark magicks and martial arts. They can use frozen fist which is similar to chill touch. As they level they may also cast Blindness, Blur, Vampiric Touch, and Mirror image.

Multi-Classing and Dual-Classing:

If you're seeking to multi-class I would say the best way to go about being a "True Necromancer" is to be a Half-Elf Cleric/Mage. This way, you gain all the arcane and divine spells along with turn/rebuke undead. If you want to focus on life spells, go good. If you want destructive spells, go evil. Then, if you want to generalize, go neutral.

Honestly, any Class/Mage or Class/Cleric can perform well as a Necromancer due to having the ability to obtain the required spells. One could try emulating an unholy warrior for non-humans by using an Elven Fighter/Mage and only choosing dark-themed spells or play a Gnomish Thief/Cleric and serve as an Unholy Assassin using the Undead and Dark spells to enhance your killing potential.

Unfortunately my knowledge is very limited when it comes to Dual Classing. I will be updating this part soon using information in the 2e book known as the Complete Book of Necromancers.

The spells you will be using as a Necromancer:

Here is a list of all the necromancy spells used by both divine and arcane means. The arcane list was provided by @Merina in her thread, here: http://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/41493/wizard-spell-lists-icewind-dale-enhanced-edition#latest

RP Gods for the aspiring Necromancer: Jergal*, Kelemvor*, Mrykul, Velsharoon, Kiaransalee, Bhaal, Cyric, and possibly Shar (She has had the Undeath and Death domains before, though it would seem she attained these after the events of IWD:EE and BG/BG2:EE).

*These two don't like Liches or anyone that has willingly become Undead. Kelemvor hates the Undead completely but Jergal would allows his followers to use undead to fight the undead.

Mods of Note:
http://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/31274/mod-beta-tome-and-blood-more-options-for-wizards-and-sorcerers/p1?_ga=1.95594267.602184538.1431381712

Tome and Blood adds Elves to be able to become Necromancers along with the Revenant Bloodline for scorcerers and two sub-kits for necromancers. The Pale Master is much like it's 3.5 counterpart and gives you undead immunities as you level as well as a d6 hitdice. The Pale Master is Neutral and Evil only. For Good and Neutral you can be the White Necromancer of which I can assume is based on Pathfinder's class by the same name. It gives you raise dead as well as a number of healing spells to your spell list.

http://www.gibberlings3.net/sns/

Song and Silence adds the Dirgesinger bard so if you want to use that in BG:EE or BG2:EE you're perfectly available to. Also, if you use this version's shadowdancer they have summon shadow which is also an undead type creature.

http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=706

Divine Remix adds the Strifeleader of Cyric Cleric kit. If you want that death god flavor for your Cleric Cyric is a pretty good way to go.

http://www.gibberlings3.net/iwdification/

IWDification adds many of the spells from IWD to BG:EE and such.

http://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/33657/scales-of-balance-post-hac-kits-and-tweaks/p1

Scales of Balance has been discontinued and its spellcasting stuff is going to be added to Tome and Blood. Keep an eye out for the set of mods that will contain: Tome and Blood, Might and Guile, and Faiths and Powers.

http://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/18620/mod-beta-monastic-orders-of-faerun/p1

http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/1099-a-frosty-journey-the-iwdee-kitpack/

Both of these mods also contain a monk of the Order of the Long Death which make other good death-themed martial artists.
@elminster thanks for the link n_n

Ending notes and biases:

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I personally cannot decide which type of char I like more between pure Cleric, pure Wizard, or Cleric/Mage. Wizard definitely has the better offensive spell collection as a lot of the Cleric's spells are healing or protection spells. However, Clerics gain animate dead at a much earlier level, 5 compared to 9. This with the ability to rebuke undead as en evil cleric makes it a tough choice to make. On the wizard side you gain badass spells like Soul Eater that kills enemies and turns them into skellybros which is super special awesome! Also, EE keeper is fun. Sometimes with the TnB mod I'll make a Cleric/Pale Master and such.

If I got any information wrong or have any input I'd super be appreciative of any comments and such n_n

Edit: So, thanks to @abacus I have learned that Bards, while getting animate dead later, actually get the best version of the spell before both mages and clerics due to their exp progression. They will obtain at it 1,100,000 exp while Clerics will gain it at 1,575,000 and Mages at 1,875,000. Thanks again for the information!

Edit the Second: Added spell lists for the Blackguard and Bard. I'm unsure about the Blackguard one since I haven't used a Blackguard in IWD:EE but this is what I assume the spells available would be.

Are there other little inconsistencies in the game bug you?

PS: Hurray my first evil party in BG2, Dorn's wedding crashing ability really lowered my reputation. There seems to be very few banters though.

Davy the Ninja and Garnash the Barbarian Look for Trouble

$

I just got out of a PnP D&D session and two of our players had the most hilariously, pointlessly violent side quest. I have to tell the story. I won't be able to remember every detail, unfortunately.
[spoiler]
Our tale begins with Garnash, a surly half-orc barbarian, and his gold-digging ninja buddy, whom I will call Davy, short for Davy Crocket, because of the poorly-made animal skin cap he wears. We have just reached a major turning point in our quest to get out of a provincial Scandinavian-esque backwater, but we have a whole day before we go dungeon crawling with a new friend of ours, a high-level mage with a thing for invocation magic.

We each have our own little plans. I go spell shopping, the other mage relaxes at home, the paladin donates a rare book to a local temple, and an NPC in our party bangs a hot black guy (the abovementioned invoker, namely). So our GM asks Garnash and Davy the ninja what they want to do.

Garnash: Let's go find some trouble. What's the seediest place in town?

GM: That would probably be the docks or the slums, or around the tannery... naturally the poorest folks would be around the tannery. Smells bad, nobody wants to live there... the eastern docks are the poorer part. Dirtier, messier, poorer.

Garnash: Let's go to the docks.

GM: Eastern docks, or the-

Garnash: East.

GM: All right, the seedier part. You go down to the docks. The place smells awful. People in rags. It's an awful place. What do you want to do?

Garnash: Look for trouble.

Davy: Okay... I want to attract a pickpocket. So I'm going to try and act like an easy target... act like some idiot, a foreigner, somebody who doesn't know what they're doing.

GM: Okay, roll a bluff check.

Garnash: I'm going to shadow him.

GM: How far away?

Garnash: Mm... 10, 20 feet?

GM: Roll a bluff check.

*They roll a 16 and 17.

GM: Great, you look like an idiot. Some ignorant foreigner going around marveling at everything; an obvious target. And you look foreign, which helps you stand out. That bad hat also makes you look stupid.

Davy: Yeah, and I tilt it at a weird angle. It-

GM: Right. (to Garnash) And nobody seems to notice you following him.

*Davy is going around goofing off and waiting for somebody to try and pick his pocket.

GM: How long are you going to do this?

Davy: We'll do it all day if we have to!

Garnash: There's nothing else to do in this town. I hate this place. This town is a hellhole. Nothing ever happens. We wait until we get bored and have to get lunch.

GM: You keep going for about an hour and nothing happens. Then... roll a perception check.

*Rolls high

GM: You feel a light tug at your pocket. What do you do?

Davy: Just a light tug?

*Davy thinks.

Davy: I go for the grapple.

*Rolls a 12

GM: You succeed. You grab your target and pull him to the ground... It's a little boy, about six or seven. He's screaming and crying for help.

*Cue evil joke from Garnash

GM: Do you end the grapple?

*More talk from the other party members. It takes a while. The question gets lost.

GM: You hear a man shouting out. A very fat, bald man comes running over, shouting in Stratzi (a language they don't know).

*Garnash and Davy think.

Garnash: The guy's probably a front for the kid. The kid is a pickpocket; the man is his boss.

Davy: I shout out, "Guards! Guards! Thief!"

GM: Roll a perception check.

*Rolls a 4

GM: You haven't seen any guards in the area since you got here. The guards don't come around here. Nobody cares.

*More talking

GM: Do you end the grapple?

*Davy tries to speak with the fat bald Stratzi man using the trade language.

GM, as Stratzi man: No trade (the standard line for people who don't or won't speak our language).

*More talking

GM: The Stratzi hits the kid and yells at him.

*More talking

GM, for the third time: Do you let the kid go?

Davy: What's this kid got on? A coat, or-

GM: He's wearing almost nothing. He must be freezing. No coat, just rags. He's really got nothing.

*Cue evil joke from Garnash

Davy: What can I do? Do I have to roll for-

GM: He's just a kid; you don't have to roll for anything. You can do pretty much whatever you want to him.

*Cue evil joke from Garnash

Davy: I pick him up by the collar of his shirt or whatever and throw him aside.

GM: The bald man is shouting something at you.

*Arguing with the bald man. He starts to go away with the kid. Garnash makes a hand gesture--more of a "go away" gesture than an obscene gesture.

GM: The bald man shouts a curse at you. You don't know what it was, but you can tell it was a curse.

Davy: I go over and stop the bald guy.

GM: He looks at you.

*Davy puts his hand to his ear. It's a wordless way of asking "what did you just say to me?"

GM: The bald guy steps back.

Garnash: I reach for my sword. I don't grab it, but I reach for it.

GM: The bald guy steps back a little faster. He says something, in a calmer voice.

*They decide to let the guy go.

GM: The bald guy starts hitting the kid in the back of the head, yelling something. You see red on him.

Garnash: Red as in, is he actually...

GM: Yeah, he's bleeding. Lots of blood. Like, the bald guy hits him and you see blood come out the side.

Everybody: Wow.

GM: The guy beats the kid until eventually he fall unconscious-

Several people: Wait, he actually beat the kid unconscious?

GM: Yeah.

*Mutters of horror.

GM: The bald guy hurries away.

Davy: I follow him, but I try to hide.

GM: Roll a hide check.

*Rolls an 11

GM: He doesn't seem to spot you.

Garnash: I follow him, too.

GM: The guy ducks into a tavern.

Davy: We look inside, through the window. Is there a window?

GM: Yes, one.

Davy: This is probably the center. It's where the guy and his pickpockets hide out.

*More talking. Somebody asks what they're doing.

Garnash: I just want something to do. I hate this town.

GM: Do you go in?

*They decide not to.

Garnash: I just want to catch a pickpocket and rough him up. But I don't want to kill him... wait, what is wrong with me?

GM: Do you go back to the docks? There's still plenty of time left in the day.

*More talking

GM: A woman calls out at you. She's wearing almost nothing... definitely a prostitute. She must be freezing. You can tell she's propositioning you.

*Davy thinks.

Davy: I'm rolling an intimidation check.

*I burst out laughing.

Multiple people: Seriously?

Davy: Yeah.

GM: What did you roll?

Davy: A natural 20.

GM: Okay... the woman cries out something and runs away. Roll a perception check.

*Rolls high

GM: She was so scared she told her girlfriend to run away as well.

*More talking. Some express disbelief that a come-on warranted an intimidation check.

GM: You notice some guy walking down the street. He comes by the kid and stops to spit on him.

Garnash: He actually spit on the kid?

GM: Yes. Just stopped by to spit on him.

Davy: That guy needs to be taught some respect. You can't just walk around spitting on kids who have beaten half to death.

Garnash: Yeah, he needs to learn some respect.

Davy: I try to trip him.

*Rolls low

GM: You try to trip him but he gets out of the way. He shouts something in Stratzi and draws a dagger.

Garnash: This guy's attacking us? Yeah, we need to teach him a lesson.

Davy: I use sleight of hand to draw my sai.

*Rolls high

GM: You draw the sai without catching anybody's attention.

Somebody: He's not really attacking you. He just drew his weapon.

Davy: I'm going to get him.

Me, starting with a normal voice and gradually breaking up into laughter: Let me get this straight. You just walked into the docks to pick a fight with a thief. Then you get mad at the guy who scolded the thief. Then you yell at the guy and threaten him when he curses back. He beats the kid unconscious and walks away. Then you intimidate a prostitute just because she's there, and then, when you see a guy spit on the kid, you go over and attack him?

Garnash: Yeah.

Me: Roll for initiative?

GM: Yeah, roll for initiative.

*Davy rolls highest

Davy: I charge him and try to disarm him.

*Rolls high

GM: You try to disarm him, but he slips out of the way.

Garnash: I draw my sword and attack him. I have quick draw.

*Rolls high. Garnash and Davy disarm him and hurt him pretty bad.

GM: The guy puts his hands in the air. He's surrendering.

Davy: I grab the guy and pull him over to the kid.

GM: He doesn't resist.

Davy: I point at the kid and then point at him.

GM: He doesn't know what's going on. He doesn't understand.

Davy: He shouldn't have threatened us.

GM: He wasn't actually attacking you; when he shouted at you, it was more of a "what the f**k?" than a threat. By now, people have gathered around to watch. Some people are exchanging coins.

*Davy and Garnash decide to leave, profoundly pleased with themselves. Later on, when our paladin is having a pleasant conversationn with a cleric about a rare book, Davy and Garnash fist bump over their successful troublemaking.

I just love the pointless hostility towards everyone, and the overreactions and underreactions to everything.

Preparing for the Bhaalspawn Saga (recklessheart)

Inspired by @Ygramul 's https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/40393/maybe-this-time-no-reload-thread-featuring-tackling-drasus-silke-bodhi/p1, and the many pro players that have been posting their stories there, I thought that I might do the same thing for myself when I next run Baldur's Gate! It might be a somewhat tame or unexciting run for most, as I do not use any mods. I do mix up my parties though, so you might see some new combos after the run gets underway. :)

I need some techie help before I can begin, however! Simple, straightforward things (I hope), but I don't know where to source the solutions aside from here, so here goes:

1) How do I take screenshots in BG:EE and where do I find them once they have been captured?

2) Does ANYBODY have the portraits for Imoen, Jaheira, Edwin, Viconia and Minsc as per their BG2 renderings, which I can use for BG1EE? I vastly prefer them, and although this isn't critical, it would please me, haha! Where can I find them, and how do I activate them for BG1EE once I do?

3) Can we somehow reclaim the BG2 paper dolls in EE? If it happens that I create a female character, I would very much prefer to have the BG2 Cleric and Mage paperdolls for humans. I'm pretty sure this one is impossible, but I'll throw it in there!

Thanks in advance for those that can help. I'll insight/like/agree with everything you say forever more if you have my solutions (unless it is anti-Nalia or anti-Jaheira. You should all know by now that that will simply not fly with me!).

That One Enemy...

Who is it? That one enemy type who makes you want to grind your teeth in frustration?

For me, it'd beholders. I like playing CHARNAME as an Abjurer, and having all that fancy defensive magic rendered basically useless is annoying as crap. I'm basically forced into marching one guy armed with Balduran's Shield forward and winning instantly, or else rushing them and praying to the RNG that someone gets through the Save or Die's to mulch them.

Devs -- Please restore spell 'Emotion'

Dear devs,

Please restore the Bioware version of the spell 'Emotion'. Enemies should remain prone for the duration of the spell. The current version of the spell is now weaker than 'Hold Person'.

From http://baldursgate.wikia.com/wiki/Emotion-Hopelessness

Emotion-Hopelessness is a 4th wizard enchantment spell which causes victims to lie down where they stand and cease any movement as effect of losing the will to live if the save vs. spell, fails in their favor.

This spell has a second effect; it instills courage in the caster, restoring lost morale and removing fear effects as well as preventing them from working on the caster for as long as the spell lasts. Magic resistance and other such things affects this part of the spell.

Outside my comfort zone playthrough

So, I maybe looking to do another play through of the BG series, but the only way I can possible survive this is if I can do none comfort play through. Meaning I need some tips and ideas on team choices and a class to play.

Charname; ultimately all I ever play is DD and Wild mage, since I'm strongly magic bias. So logic would state I should be melee/physical focused. I originally was looking at cleric, but they fall too close to arcane caster in play; so right now I'm leaning towards either paladin or blackguard.

I also am looking at thief and assassin, but for the love of nocturnal, I can never seem to get hide in shadows to work or to even stay concealed, even when I separate away from my party in the long run.

I'm also on the boat about druid, I kind of want to run around as a freaking werewolf, but unfortunately people don't attack me on sight like I wish the would.

I'm still avoiding multi/duel classing, pure class 4 lyfe.

Npc I'm trying to avoid.

P.S. kambalder - kobold, gnaler - gnoll (swedish)

This inspired me to do the same with my kids. I've decided to share with you all how it is going.

My son is 5 years old, my daughter is 3 years old. I started off by having my boy design Charname. Here is what he came up with.

Name: Gorgia
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Equipment: Sword and "lightning shield"

So I started off with candlekeep and Gorion, letting my boy design the character. I described it as a castle filled with books where Gorgia and his father lived. Then one day, his father...well, you know that part of the story. So they run away and come across "a big man, covered in armor. Seven feet tall! The big man has two ogres with him." I then recite the dialogue from memory, because all of us can.

As I do this my boy has his eyes wide and is listening intently. I don't dwell on the part where Gorion dies, instead just saying that the armored man won and Gorgia ran away. I then bring in Imoen, Gorgia's sister. My girl bubbles with excitement at this, and likes that she has a bow. Well, or just likes that there is a sister involved. She is sitting on my lap, but has to get off to talk excitedly about...something. Her pronunciation isn't too good.

So I tell them what Gorion's letter says, about how there are friends in the Friendly Arm Inn, another castle. I ask my boy what Gorgia does. He tells me that Gorgia goes to the Friendly Arm Inn to meet his friends.

So Gorgia meets Khalid and Jaheria, hereafter called 'his friends.' So his friends tell Gorgia that because he is so strong and has practiced with swords (good timing, given that I just bought my boy a toy sword and shield) that he should use it to go help people. My boy informs me that Gorgia indeed does want to go help people. So 'his friends' tell Gorgia about the problems in the Nashkel mines.

I stop here to ask my boy if he knows what a mine is. I end up explaining it to him, and getting him to the point where he understands why making the metal break is bad. He tells me that Gorgia will go help.

I say that is enough for this night and my boyo insists that I keep telling the story. So...we go on.

Gorgia gets to the mine and I tell him that the owner of the mine says: "So you want to take a look at me mine, do ya? Well, I'll give you one day. But I warn you! People who go into that mine, they don't come out. And I don't know why. It is really dark down there. Are you sure that you want to go in"

My boyo tells me that Gorgia runs away.

I tell the boyo that Gorgia has a sword and lightning shield and that his sister has a bow, and that they should help people. So Gorgia gathers his courage and goes down.

They get ambushed by kobolds. As the arrows come in, hitting Gorgia's shield I hit the bed, making it shake. I describe how his sister uses her bow to shoot he kobolds. My girl is quite happy at this.

Now, I ask my boy who he thinks is behind this. His response? "A green piggy." (He is an Angry Bird fanatic)

Ok, I can work with this. So Mulhay is green. That makes everyone happy. I go through the dialogue and Gorgia decides to trust Mulhay and to read the letters. My boy is quite surprised when Mulhay betrays him. It is a good thing that Gorgia has this 'lightning shield', which he uses to beat Mulhay down and take his letters.

So...score one for the good guys.

I try to stop the story there and to get them to bed, but my girl is excited and the boyo refuses to let me go, asking me to keep telling him the story.

So Gorgia tracks down the green man's friend, a wizard, to find out why Mulhay was poisoning the metal (yes, I know it should be ore, but there is already enough info here for a 5 year old). The wizard threatens Mulhay. And what comes of this?

Gorgia hits the wizard and knocks out his eye.
His sister shoots the wizard and knocks off his leg.

Good thing that combat was described for me! Saves me the effort, I suppose. So the wizard tells Gorgia that someone was paying him and the green man to poison the metal and that there were other people stealing all of the other metal, so no one could have it.

I then had to explain to the boy the economics of stealing all of the metal so you can sell your own for a higher price. I ended up explaining it using pizza as an example. It was easier.

When this was done, the boy said that the wizard is now Gorgia's friend. As such, the wizard has his eye and leg back. I ask the boy why the wizard is Gorgia's friend. There was a small pause. Apparently Gorgia gave the wizard a new wand, so now they are friends. Ok, I'll go with it.

I tell the boyo that we are ending it there. He refuses again and demands that I keep going. I am firm this time. I give him and his sister a kiss and a hug and say that we'll go on tomorrow night.

(For anyone who is wondering why the boyo gets more attention here, it is because my girly is only 3. So just mentioning the sister is enough for her. I gave her choices, but it always meant her going off on a tangent which doesn't fit into any of the above. As such, the boyo gets to be Charname).

And that, thus far, is what happens when a 5 year old gets to be Charname in Baldur's Gate.

Completed Saga Runs

Seems like a fun discussion. So...how many full saga runs have you completed? I'll go first.

(1) Durak - dwarven defender
This was before my ill fated solo attempt. Runehammer in one hand, defender of easthaven in the other and the Roranarch's Horn atop his head, he was a tank like no other. He walked up and got the enemy's attention, and then Korgan (axe of the unyielding and crom faeyr) flanked. It worked quite well.

I envisioned him attaining godhood and becoming a (very) minor dwarven deity, with the portfolio of being a god for dwarves raised by non-dwarves who still try to stick to their heritage.

(2) Kadrin - dwarven fighter/thief
Carsomyr when fighting, Yamato for backstabbing, wearing white dragon scale armor and has the headband of the devout on his head. Backstabbing with a guaranteed max damage at 25 strength? Followed up by 10 whirlwind attacks with Carsomyr? He was a whirlwind of destruction. And the traps...oh the traps.

I envisioned him retiring to the Deepstone Clanhold where he would spend the rest of his days, protecting it from any future attack. And experimenting with the unique ore found there to make truly deadly traps for any unwanted guests.

(3) Lother - Human Fighter/Shadowdancer
Dual classed him at lvl 13 so he would have max backstabbery. Belm in his offhand, spectral brand in his main. Quite a force to be reckoned with.

I envisioned him taking godhood and changing his name to Bhaal, becoming what his father once was.

(4) Aethandir- Elven Fighter/Mage
Not my favorite run, too much micro managing. But a surprisingly good tank. Even though there were better options out there, he kept Aslyferund, the best elven chain in the world, because it just looked that damned good. A weird bug meant that I couldn't actually get out of the pocket plane after beating the last trial, but because there was nothing I could do about it I still count the run complete.

I envisioned him returning to Suldanessar after the saga.

(5) Brynhild - Human Inquisitor
Damn those stats. I mean...damn. S20 D18 C20 I14 W18 Cha21. That was some good rolling. Purifier in one hand, Hindo's Doom in the other (for the magic resistance), she did fairly well for herself. Kinda redundant to have her and Keldorn, but this was the holy warrior run.

She ran away with Anomen as per their epilogue.

(6) Weilan - Human Monk
More crazy stats. When a monk has S25, hits for max damage (ie: 43 damage per hit) and has 10 attacks per round? Combine that with -16 THACO and -19AC, and you have something completely broken. Combine that with 100% magic resistance and enemies just cry. Then again, beating BG1 with a monk charname and with Raasad in the same party...that was so damned painful. So I feel like I earned that power spike at the end.

She took godhood, for one reason only: She feared getting old and withering away. A strange thought that hit me when making that final choice, but I ran with it.

So 6 completed saga runs thus far. I've got a ranger/cleric currently in the underdark who might well join their number eventually, and I'm toying with a fighter/druid run which has just started in BG1.

And this isn't counting how I beat the saga twice in my youth, before EE. Once as a paladin and another with a dwarven berserker.

Anyone else want to share how obsessed they are with this game?

critical threat range of weapons

I seem to remember scimitars having a higher chance to crit than other melee weapons, which goes with the description on the weapon "more deadly".

Am I remembering that correctly? If so they'd apparently make the best weapon to back stab with, especially with a prof point in 1 handed weapons.

Cheers

The Bhaalspawn's True/Canon Fate

So, how many people here know the canon fate of the protagonist Bhaalspawn?

In the Forgotten Realms novels, the protagonist Bhaalspawn, Abdel Adrian ends up turning down the Throne of Bhaal, and walking away from it while retaining his Bhaalspawn essence.

WotC have released a tabletop P&P campaign called "Murder in Baldur's Gate", in which Duke Abdel Adrian is slain by his half-brother Viekang (the teleporting Bhaalspawn in Trademeet and Saradush), which transforms Viekang into the Slayer. When the players of the campaign kill Slayer-Viekang, Bhaal is resurrected.
So basically, all the protagonist Bhaalspawn's actions in Baldurs Gate 1, 2 and ToB, were for nothing. Bhaal still got what he wanted, his children were nothing more than the fuel for his resurrection after all.

I think these events, are going to make it very hard for Beamdog to get permission to make a BG 3, unfortunately.

tanking a beholder without cheese

Assume you are playing no-reload, so you cannot afford to just 'wing it' for a bad saving throw.

How can you reliably tank a beholder/elder orb WITHOUT using the Shield of Cheese or the Cloak of Cheese?

[theoretical]
Figther/Mage -> Spell Immunity: Nec/Evo/Abj + Spell Shield + Prot. f Petrif.
(does Spell Shield stay up?)

Any other reliable methods?

Real life class and stats

Hello all,

________________________________________
EDIT: Alot of funny discussions, as expected :) Just wished more ppl would dare to post nt only their view of their stats, but also their view on what class and alignement they would have! Anyways, I've decided to bump down a couple of stats after reading what some ppl wrote below. I realize I probably exagerated some stats, due to my poor WIS ofc, and since my knowledge in the ability system is less than many others in here, I will change them. //Skat.
_______________________________________

Maybe this has already been done, but something I've been thinking of after doing a couple of those online tests to determine my "real life" class, alignment and stats is that nevermind what those tell me: what do I think myself best suits me? So, just contemplating my own view of myself, what stats, alignment, class and race would I assign myself? I'm no bhaal spawn, so no super powers what so ever. Just a random dude with average genetics.

What differ this thread from others like it? Well, my intent is to NOT exaggerate my stats because I want to be superstrong or smart like Einstein. I will do my best to really think about what I _should_ have, not what I _wish_ I had.

STATS

STR 14 - I'm slightly above average if I look at my surroundings. I crossfit, workout and are generally in decent shape for a 34 year old. I can't benchpress more than ~90 kilos etc, but I can carry heavy weight for a long time, lift most things I need (like refrigerators etc, hehe). If 10 is the norm, then I think I have 14.
DEX 12 - I'm quite clumsy and have poor balance, but I have quite good hand to eye coordination and has always been a fairly good shot, even with slightly less good eyesight on my right eye. I'd say my sniping skills is why I rate myself higher than the norm. I would do well with a bow and arrow, but poorly in acrobatics. I climb fairly well though.
CON 14 (I'm not superhuman, bumping this one down) - Seldom sick and with an iron gut, I can eat and drink everything without much complications. I have a quite high pain threshold as well. I have always been able to drink alot more booze than my friends of the same size and shape, on par with people double my size. Dunno why, it's just genes I guess. Never been poisoned except once when someone spiked my drink with a massive dose of GHB. Survived that but with a huge hangover. I'm not superhuman, bumping this one down
INT 14 (bumped down. I have a masters degree in business economics and work as a global business controller for a multi billion dollar company. Not many % of the population does that.) - I regularly score high on IQ tests, averaging around 120-30, as well as, succeeding quite well in problem solving overall. I can read a book once and take the exam and score fairly high. School was a breeze.
WIS 10 - Wisdom is the most difficult to appreciate yourself, I think. It's hard to say that I am wise, but I have been told that I appear to have a fairly high common knowledge. I have a good memory, so shit just stick, but it has gotten worse with age. I act before I think alot of times, so I guess in terms of AD&D I can't be considered wise, however, I shouldn't get a lore penalty since if I had read about some magic sword in a dusty tome, I would remember it.
CHA 12 (bumped down, alot. My obvious lack of self-restricting before posting this show that I'm not as good of a crowd pleaser as I thought I was, haha) - I may exaggerate this one, but I often become the centre of a party and have my fair share of female (and male) attention. I am often considered a gentleman and a jester, depending on my alcohol level, hehe.. I'm not the prettiest face in the world, but it seems others think I look decent. I choose my outfits with care and, overall, take my apperance quite seriously.

So, 76 (edited) points.

CLASS

I'm not a fighter, that's for sure. I try to avoid fights and never start them. If I see ppl fight I will avoid or try to break it up, not join in just for fun. No fighter kit fits either. I would never have the tenacity to reach grand mastery in anything since I am far too impatient.
I'm definitely not a paladin or a ranger. I would not bend myself backwards to help everyone else. I do so, but more in the background by giving money to charity etc.
I'm not clever enough to be a mage, nor do I enjoy studying enough to excel at it. It intrigues me though, and magic would be something I would focus on if that was possible. I would avoid combat if possible or use magic to get the upper hand in some way.
I'm most definitely not a cleric or druid in any way. I don't believe in gods at all (though it would ofc be different if I lived in FR rather then the real world). No, this doesn't apply to me at all.
I would never be a monk. The spartan life style would not be for me. I like things, to own them, but I want to buy them and not steal them.
I'm leanign towards thief, but it doesn't feel like a perfect fit either since it's hard to apply my alignment to that class.
So with all this said, I think either bard or thief/mage best suits my personality. Never mind minimun requirements etc. The bard, being a rather outspoken and charismatic character, not the best fighter, not the best mage, but a little of everything sounds like a fairly good fit actually. The thief/mage is similar, and the multiclass aspect (I have trouble in real life to fully determine what I should do with my life) may be a better fit. But I think bard and possibly the skald kit fits me best. The skald is based on norse mythology and being swedish that's another thing that make the class suit me. Also, the skald seem to me to rather recite heroic deeds of valor and combat rather then just sing pretty (I can't sing at all), so regular bard would not suite me. Blade could be an option since his song is weaker and don't evolve and he focus more on showmanship.

RACE

If there were no race restrictions I think dwarf would have been my choice of race. I'm not short, but they are stocky and bulky rather than graceful and agile. They like to eat and drink and are driven by lust and greed. They have good CON but less DEX, which sound like me. They aren't known for their charisma and I don't have the biggest beard in the world though. So maybe dwarf is just wishful thinking.. I guess halfelf would be a better fit. Not a human, nor an elf. Something in between.

ALIGNEMENT
I follow the rules of the world, which make the bard class conflicting with my alignment, but I don't approve of how they are set. I am innate good and favour it greatly in real life. I despise criminals and people who thrive for conflict. So even though I follow (most) rules I think neutral good better describe my personality.

So there we have it, Skatan's real life CHARNAME:

Skatan
Bard (Skald or Blade) - level 3 perhaps? Know to little PnP to make an assessment of this.
Neutral Good
14/12/14/14/10/12 (76 total)
Proficiences:
* Shortbow
* Long sword

Ok, so now I just have to create this char.

Ideas for a Talos Priest, please!

Hi there!

It's time to make a new character, and this time I thought of playing a cleric (something I haven't done before!). From the available kits I would prefer Talos , since Lathander is too "nice" and Helm is too Lawful. I would appreciate your advices on certain aspects , though:

1-I made him chaotic neutral. The game doesn't allow it , but it is actually official that Talassans are either NE, CE or CN , it is lawful evil that should be illegal.

QUESTION: In BG2, will it interfere in my stronghold quest? Should change my aligment before accepting the unseeing eye's quest?

2- From a roleplaying point of view, he was a student of candlekeep who, as in a lovecraftian book, discovered ancient texts about Kozah , and realised that Chaos was a natural force , and faith in it wasn't necessarily evil, even though the faithless might become victims from time to time.

QUESTION: For both BG1 and BG2 , which NPC's do you recommend, I mean, npc's that would actually become his friends? He is wise and adventurous, but I know that characters such as dynaheir and Khalid would be likely to despise him.

3- What about romances? I know that Viconia is a good option , but would you suggest someone else?

Thanks !

Not sure how much interest there will be in this but I'm throwing it out there nonetheless!!!

RULES
- You must use a non-edited roll of 75
- You can re-roll as many times as you like
- You may not min/max any stats or edit any abilities at all
- You may not resurrect any party members
- Core rules
- Update your progress in this thread, whether it be death or success!
- Try to roleplay your character as much as possible :)
- Have fun

I'll start with Gwen, an Elven Priestess of Talos although I don't know how long she will live with her crippling low dexterity lol. She can barely equip herself and nearly takes her half an hour to do so. I took her first roll of 75, updates to come in the near future
