Stupidest things you have done in Baldur's Gate

So... I just found a cool potion in this game that reminded me of a story from way back when I was like 13. I found this really cool looking potion in one of the bandit camp rooms. It was called an "Oil of Fiery Burning".

"Sweet! Maybe I'll shoot fire out of my hands or become like the Human Torch or something"

"OUCH!"

BG can be crazy hard sometimes, and when you are young the enormity of the game can confuse you. I also remember being fatigued and thinking how lazy my characters were and another time being shocked that my potion of healing wouldn't cure my poison.

There are so many areas where you can just screw up in hilarious ways as a new player. I'd like to hear some stories like this. Come share your growing pains and have a laugh or two at your noob past selves

I lost all my male portraits on my old desktop and I am looking to get a collection once again.

I have a bunch of high quality female ones grouped together by a member here by the name of Kurumi.. I had a really awesome male collection too about a year or 2 ago.

Anybody have a winrar file of their male portraits I could utilize? Anything is appreciated thanks fellas

Why bards in BG don't get 7th and 8th level spells like the bards in Icewind Dale? I'm going to play a bard charname next and I'm tempted to install that Rogue Rebalanced component that gives them 7th and 8th spells, but only if it's appropriate.

I was planning to do a shadowdancer in my next run of baldur's gate.

But I could not find too much information about it on the net.

I wanted to know if the shadowdancer had to learn his ability or it is innate like the sorcerer?

Is it tied to mask or shar? Or can you become one on your own?

This is roleplayer question, just to flesh out my character.

So if @LadyRhian or anyone else who know about shadowdancer can help me that will be great.

Ok so I got to the bit in the tutorial where i am meant to disable this trap now i know the basics of how to use the interface but i really cant see this trap it's meant to come up in red when i use the detect trap ability but i just can't see it am i just being really dense or has anyone else had this problem? how id you overcome it.

this is in BG2 if that helps from GoG

what would you like too see if there was a BG3 announced i think i would like a new story (but one that is still tied in to the law) a new camera now I like the Isomeric view but i think a camera like in Dragon age would work very well in a new game a new player set up a bit like the one n Elder scrolls this will give us real unique characters but apart from that keep everything the same BG is an amazing game and I really am not complaining . what dp you want to see?

Firstly, this version I play is the originial version from 1998, which might differ from the enhanced edition this forum was made for.

It's just, I have a lvl. 5 elf mage, but what I don't understand is, how come that despite being lvl. 5, my mage isn't even capable of memorizing lvl. 4 spells... I'm sure there is a fair and square explaination for this, I just don't see. If any of you could help me with my ignorance, I would be thankful.

Okay so maybe I'm like, 20 years late to do it, but I *finally* finished Baldur's Gate 1 as of this exact moment!

[Spoiler] Woohoo! It only took me like, a million retries and spell sorting to finish the final battle... Buuuuuut... I DID IT! YAY! GO ME! xD Damn, the final battle is a serious bitch in the ass and I was only 1 level from EXP cap for my entire party! Whew, I'm so happy!!

Though, I was sad I didn't get to see any Epilogues. ;~; I thought BG1 had some. *Sobs*

Time to import into BG2 from BG1 for the first time<3 (With a completed save.)
I'm so curious to find out all the new dialogue options and start BG2 with my imported CHARNAME! (Though she feels a bit overpowered with the good rolls and stat tomes ._.) [/Spoiler]

If you weretrapped in the D&D universe, and being forced to choose a race and a class and even a patron. Who/what would you choose?

Mine-
Race- Dragon, Dragon born, dragon-kin, half Dragon... Look I'm going to be Dragon something! But just in case the dieity is a doughe. Human or Demilich.

Class- Wizard, Sorcerer

Patron - Bahamut or Tiamat.

I'd spend my time scribing spells and increasing my magical prowess until my patron equires my action. I choose wizard over Sorcerer because it would just feel more right. I'd also look for ways to lengthen my life span through magic.

WEREWOLF ISLAND: All die upon arrival, does anyone know why?

As stated in the title, I've run into a major bug (I think?) as my whole party simply dies within seconds upon arrival to the island. I have some mods installed: Mini quests and encounters, Romantic encounters, NPC-project, Level 40 rule set, various NPC mods. All except the first two I've had previously installed without any problems. After some googling I'm beginning to fear that no one else have experienced this "bug" which means that no one knows how to fix it... Hence, I'm reaching out to the members of this forum.

I am also considering the possibilty of the instant death-thingie is connected to some quest or something from the first two mods which is causing this but I havent been able to figure out what to do yet to solve the problem.

Suggestions anyone?

I would just like to thank all of the hard workers at Overhaul/Beamdog and all the official/unofficial hard workers on this Forum (And anyone else I'm not aware of!). You have revived an excellent game, one I've always had as my #1 game and played since I was a very young girl.

It's been a long journey for you all, and we've seen a lot of dark days; but you all remained strong in your decisions and have created an even brighter future for us all!

The years have not been easy, but you've all come out on top and made the game absolutely perfect! It's put a smile on my face where I previously thought I would never see Baldur's Gate revived and smile again. You've all put a massive smile on this girl's face, and words truly cannot describe how much that means to me. I jump up and down just seeing the revamped interface; Not to mention the new MASSIVE new content added to this game! And every day this game continues to grow even bigger and better with all sorts of mods for those who want them and bug fixes. It's so incredibly amazing to have a company actually listen to bug fixes directly and have a minority represented amazingly.

I'm happy to call myself a member of this community, knowing there are such amazingly talented, beautiful people, intelligent, diverse people here who care for this game and it's community. :) If I could, I would be hugging each and every single one of you for being such joyous people and to repay you all for the hardships and hard work you've all been through and done! I wish I could repay you all more than just sitting here writing up my (somewhat long haha, I mean, definitely long, thanks haha!) thanks and being a customer to help support the future of this game.

Absolutely freakin' amazing work everyone. I'm proud of you all and I love the fact each and everyone of you is adding as much as you can! You're all bloody amazing! <3

P.S. Sorry I'm just so freakin' happy and I never took the time to actually thank you all. Plotbreaker and Friends

Once upon a time, Necomancer posted this thread which I became a very active participant of. I said there I might come back and do Watcher's Keep... and I have. Unlike the SoA story which was a clusterfuck of improvisation, I have all the WK episodes finished even as I type this post up. Today I'm posting the intro and then one every day. Probably early in the morning CET.

Okay, now for the people who have NFC what I'm talking about. Plotbreaker and Friends is what I'm calling my story of a PnP SoA party with... different interests. I decided that with 19 SoA episodes, more to come with Watcher's Keep and perhaps even more with Throne of Bhaal, my story has earned its own thread. I've also taken the time to format all the old posts and polish them a little - there's a changelog further down so old readers don't need to scan for changes.

Anyway, the first party member is Tepp Resolox, sorcerer. His name is an anagram of plot exposer. The second is the human thief Sendany Mayocomb, whose name is an anagram of obeys any command. Lastly there's Luna Wafall (tall race) the cleric, anagram of lawful anal. I am quite fond of anagrams and I enjoy names that employ them, but do not expect the characters to perfectly (or perhaps even remotely) represent them.

And now the changelog for returning readers. It's small and rather unexciting. I've changed some lines that didn't feel appropriate and nitpicked myself in some places. I've added the meeting with Drizzt, but it's not particularly entertaining. And lastly, Tepp should no longer in any way flirt with Luna and Luna should no longer in any way kick him in the balls. Above all I would have preferred to have done this way different from the start, but what's done is done and I don't have a fraction of the energy to redo everything - it's way beyond what you could call editing. But enjoy!

Cernd's Abilities

This is more of a question about shapeshifters in general, but focused around Cernd.

I've not found much information on Forgotten Realms Wiki about shapeshifting itself and my limited knowledge on the subject comes mostly from characters like Cernd and Beorn from the Hobbit. I do have a few questions about it though...

What happens to their equipment when they change? Mostly in relation to Cernd's staff and cloak, which seem pretty important to him.
It says on the Forgotten Realms Wiki that only Archdruids can take the form of the creature they desire at will. Does this mean Cernd is an archdruid? If so, does that mean Grand Druid is a higher rank than Archdruid?

I do also have a separate question concerning Cernd so I figured I'd add it here. It says in the epilogue that Cernd's son raises and army that threatens the Sword Coast. I recall reading somewhere that this army is an army of undead, can anyone confirm this?

Ive seen a lot of hate towards the master race, Wild mages. I guess some of the hate is justified, some people don't like unpredictablilty. Ive personally never had my gold destroyed and all I play are wildmage and Sorcerer. Heck, I remember when I ran wildmage and Neera at the same time, I barely ever saw a wild surge. But something happened recently that I can't make sense of and sadly I lost the screenshots of it.

I was fighting the doa djinn tradesmeet, I was casting a spell but the thing hit me twice for about 30-40 damage each and charname died. Now here is the strangeness happens, charname died, but the game doesn't end. The text box said my spell wild surge and I was revived.charname even said "huh" in game. God I wish I still had the screen shots.

Adventure Y: a "cease and desist order" on BG2ee?

Thinking about it, I doubt that I'll be playing any more BG2ee for quite a while.

Why so? Well, I generally want to play a character right through from beginning-BG1ee to end-BG2ee:ToB, so as to see all that s/he can (or can't) do. Henceforth, that's presumably going to include playing through BG1½:SoD (or whatever they're going to call it when they make the official announcement in a couple of days) in between BG1ee and BG2ee. However, we probably can't expect actual delivery of BG1½:SoD for a few months yet. Therefore, rather than make an "incomplete" run without the interquel, I'll probably play to the end of BG1ee and then shelve that character and start another one. By the time BG1½:SoD becomes available, I might have a few such part-completed runs stockpiled! But having just finished my current BG2ee run, I'm unlikely to import another character into BG2ee until after s/he's been through BG1½:SoD first. Thus, probably no more BG2ee for the time being!

Is anyone else also expecting to suspend BG2ee runs until after the new game is released?
