Romance Restrictions
This discussion was created from comments split from: Romance with Viconia De Vir in BG2 EE..
I split this off from the original thread because OP asked a specific question about Viconia in BG2:EE, and I didn't want to flood him/her with notifications of a more generalised discussion.

Shapeshifter Druid Possible Bugs
Is the Shapeshifter broken? The Werewolf shapeshift says it provides immunity to normal weapons and 20% magic resistance, yet I am taking damage from regular weapons such a Longswords from Flaming Fist Swordsmen.
Are there any more bugs than this?

Romance Death Question
Does the romance still end when Jaheria/Viconia/Aerie/Neera dies, or was that bug fixed?

Bhaalspawns of all ages, unite!
It's well known that Baldur's Gate more or less forces us to play an 20 years old character (or someone of equivalent age in the case of non-human characters). While this is a fitting number of years for most would be adventures, it can get a little stale on the XYZth's playthrough. So I thought it might be fun to have a wider age range to choose from... you know, for a change of pace.
This poll here lets you vote for your personal favourite character age. Ever wanted to play as newborn baby or fossil? Now is your chance!
Personally, the thought of playing as an cane wielding, ill tempered grandfather amuses me the most!

Unfinished business
Hey there,
I noticed the BWS installer doesn't offer an option to install BG Unfinished business - shame, I liked it. IIRC someone told me it's EE compatible - thing is, I use SCS, and I keep reading that SCS should always be the last mod installed.
Any tips to make it work?
EDIT: Whoops, I've been simply using an outdated BWS.... stupid me.
Sorry!

How evil is Dorn?
I almost never play evil groups and I never played with Dorn.
I would like to play him in a neutral/mildly evil group (viconia, korgan/kagain, thief-type charname).
The idea is more a mercenary group with indifference to others rather than a bloodthirsty party killing every innocent in sight.
How would dorn fit in such party (roleplay-wise)
Also, what thief kit would fit the best in that group (mechanically speaking)?
Thanks

Funniest death screams.
Just when I started to get bored with slaughtering the town of Beregost, I encountered the smiths at Thunderhammer Smithy. I got a good chuckle from Marl's buddy at Feildpost's Inn, funny stuff. But the smith's death screams had me laughing out loud. lol

How to make the game truly challenging (?)
So, I've been reading through these forums for awhile now, and I've been awestruck at how much better players many of you are when compared to me. Some of the challenges that people put themselves through seem to be truly insane.
Well, an idea hit me for all of those players craving a true challenge.
The no-pause challenge!
The pause button is a life saver. For groups, it lets you actually manage your party. Even solo, it buys you so many precious seconds as you pull out the right spell, ability or potion. It lets you take a look at the battlefield and figure out which threats there are.
Has anyone ever tried this? If so, I'd like to know if it is as difficult as I imagine it to be.

Baldur's Gate NPC name's explained
Alright, first i must say that this stuff I am about to tell you could be not true... I never read these anywhere so it is more of a strong hunch I have based on what I know about the characters and mythology, make of it what you will.
Aerie - Name is connected with the Greek Goddess of Strife named Eris and is usually depicted with feathered wings and bird feet. I think Aerie has gone through her share of strife..
Viconia - This one might seem a stretch but bear with me. Name is connected to Virgo (Viconia, Virgonia, Virgo), Virgo is the star constellation that gets its name from the goddess Astrae the star maiden, who is associated with innocence and purity, the complete opposite of Viconia which is the irony of the name influence i would guess, also Astrae is deeply tied to Justice and Viconia is deeply tied to revenge..
Jaheira - Name is connected with the Greek Goddess Hera, the queen and mother of many gods. This might be a reason why Jaheira is so bossy and well mother-like all the time..
Haer'Dalis - So Fleur de Lis means flower of the lily in french, Haer means nothing, but Hier means last or yesterday depending on the context its used in. So Haer'Dalis means Last of the Lily.. Of note is that the Fleur de Lis is also known as Flower of Light. So him being a member of the Doomguard, a faction that believe that the decay and entropy of everything was not only inevitable but a good thing, and what was "supposed" to happen, makes this a very interesting choice of name. Potentially his name means Last of the Light, makes more sense to me than last of the lily but he is a bit flowery..
now for a few more obscure ones
Minsc - This one seems so obvious i just hate to point it out but here we go. Minsc is connected to the word Misc, the short form of miscellanious which is just another way of saying different. Minsc is different? Only to some i guess..
Imoen - Name is connected to the words " I'm owing". Which is something she must do alot of since shes good natured and a thief. She probably has a list..
Anomen - Name is connected to the words " An omen". An omen are phenomenon that is believed to foretell the future, often signifying the advent of change. For a spiritual guy that worships a dead god (Helm is dead), maybe him having this name is a kind of way of him being arrogant enough to think that his worship will bring Helm back to life?
Cernd - Name is connected to the word " concerned, which means worried, troubled or anxious. Since when you first meet him he was imprisoned for investigating a disturbance at a druid grove, that sounds concerned to me..
Edwin Odesseiron - His last name Odesseiron is connected with the words " Odds I run", or to put it in a more familiar order " I run the odds". Being a man who is constantly trying to manipulate others to get what he needs and talking to himself constantly to remind himself why he puts up with the fools, this name would seem to fit nicely..
Shar-Teel - Name is connected to sharp steel. Yup she does like it sharp..
Dorn - Name is connected to Thorn. He is a prickly sort I would say..
Solaufein - Alright he's not an NPC and the list would be massive if I started getting into all of the many names and their meanings so i won't, but I will make an exception for this drow since he was an important part of the story. Name is connected to Cellophane which is just a fancy way of saying clear plastic wrap. Compared to the other drow he becomes pretty honest about his state of affairs, no spoilers if you don't know about him but he is as transparent as drow come in terms of what kind of person he really is.
List is getting pretty long and I could probably find a bunch more but I will just finish up with a juicy one.
Sarevok Anchev - Alright so this one might seem like a big stretch as well, but I try not to waste your time with guessing and always back it up with reasons. The name Sarevok is connected to the words "scare and evoke" basically to create fear.. He wouldn't do that would he? The name Anchev is connected to the words "anchor and evil" basically to make evil take root or take hold.. He did sort of try and do that didn't he? Just a little? Maybe its just me..
That's all for today. I hope you found it insightful a little bit.
Not really sure why I felt the need to share any of this, I guess @Ravenslight efforts at luring me out of the shadows have succeeded a tiny bit... only a tiny bit.

How did these low lives get one? Because i notice Shagbag didn't draw the attention of the Crowley Mages, when he casting. And i had to tell Edwin to attack melee only.

BG2: So good it's depressing... What are we going to do about it? *ATTN: BEAMDOG/OVERHAUL*
Hey all!
Okay so this creeping and morbid reality has been clawing it's way into my mind for many things including but not limited to video games. I'm 28, getting older, and amazing things like BG2 just aren't coming out and probably never will again. What we have here are more than likely humanities greatest gaming achievements ever... It's actually super depressing... Like members of your favorite band dying of old age depressing. But hope for this particular situation is not lost.
I jumped for joy when I heard that the Legendary infinity engine games were getting revamped and redone. I reacted the same when I discovered that these games have such an incredibly large following of intelligent people who love them as much as I do, and want to spend their precious little time to tweak and develop them to make them better. 1000 praises to Black Isle, Interplay, Bioware, the modding community and the EE teams.
So what is the future? BG series + IWD1 are complete. In my opinion IWD2 is new enough that it doesn't need to be revamped. Planetscape: Torment is really the only remaining infinity engine game that needs to be redone. After that, whats next? Call me crazy but I think what we really need is...... ***ANOTHER GAME***.
Here is my vision, and I'm sure most will agree. This game must be like BG2 series without the whole son of a God thing. I like my character's power to be because of his accomplishments and skill, not heritage.
I love the idea of Athkatla being the central hub of everything, having so much to do within the main city walls and always having a bustling familiar city to come home to. I think multiple Athkatla's will be even better across a dozen+ continents. Corruption, mafia organizations, etc. The guild war between the vamps and the shadow thieves was phenomenal. I also loved the personalities behind each leader. Aran Linvail appeared to be the weaker guild, but we very quickly found out that he had many resources available to him that Bodhi could not contend with. And his super polite, sly, and honest nature behind such a powerful man just made Aran one of my favourite characters.
So many things just came together perfectly to make BG2 the greatest game in existence. This new game would have to mimic (but in a different way) everything that was amazing.
The game must also be 2D, no exceptions. We all saw the travesty that was NWN and I won't have any of it. Got vertigo every time I played that damn game.
Aside from being 2D, the world must be gorgeous and pop out at you, with multiple diverse landscapes and regions. IWD series failed at this. The land was dreary, wet, dull and brutal in seemingly every area. I understand we're in the spine of the world, but in my vision and with today's technology, we can have a game that encompasses this as well. In BG2 the cities and even villages were incredible. The Harper Hold, the temples, Ust'Natha, all breathtaking.
The game must be open concept like BG2, not linear with a few side quests here and there like IWD. There should be a boatload of quests and one should be able to reach max level and be uber unstoppable not even half past the game. We must also be able to solo the game or approach it with a party.
There must be endgame content. Once the game is finished, there should be things to do including but not limited to getting revered by the townsfolk, building your rep to such a point where one can become a king and war with other lands, etc.
Strongholds are mandatory. There should be not one, but a few for each class across a few different lands. You should be able to acquire multiple strongholds that are appropriate for your class not unlike a F/M/C owning the De'Arnise hold, Planar Sphere, and presiding over a Temple.
Game must include multiple speed enhancing items. Nothing pisses me off more than trudging through the game pre-boots of speed.
I know I'm missing a lot of things that made these games great, but I'm sure you all get the picture. Can we expect a project like this in the future?
PRETTY PLEASE WITH BOO ON TOP!!!!!
I would totally help organize a fundraiser for this. GO BEAMDOG/OVERHAUL!!!!! :P
Don't mind my obnoxious nature, its nearing the end of the work day and I'm tired.

What do you think would be a fair price for "Adventure Y"?
Note: this poll is only about the most expensive version of Adventure Y i.e. the PC version. Android and iOS versions are generally cheaper.
What is known? Naught but their names. The mage is Jon Irenicus. The girl is Imoen
Adventure Y is a DLC currently developed by Beamdog. It will be about the time between BG1 and BG2 events and will cover the circumstances "much darker than anyone would have thought" under which CHARNAME who had defeated Sarevok and thus had saved the Sword Coast had to escape to Amn and was kidnapped by Irenicus.
It will be released not earlier than spring of 2015.
Adventure Y will have at least one new NPC whose name starts with "Gl". Also, there can be more: "There are a few characters in Adventure Y I'm just in love with. One in particular I plan to use as my next PC if I ever find time to get involved in a p&p game again" (Andrew Foley). Maybe in the future this or these NPC (s) will appear in BG2EE.
The UI in Adventure Y will be previoosly unseen one, but will include all the enhancements Beamdog made to BGEE and IWDEE.
There will be both absolutely new locations and remastered and repainted areas from BG1 in Adventure Y.
Adventure Y (English version) will be voiced-over. We will hear the magnificent Dave Warner's voice (Irenicus) again. Maybe Jennifer Hale will be also involved. Trent Oster mentioned that the price they had to pay for VO was very high.
There will be new abilities for characters (at least one that looks like a transformation into a goblin) and/or a goblin companion.
There will possibly be new kits and spells. And items, of course.
Now, when we know all this, what do you think would be a fair price for such expansion or game (whether it's an expansion or a standalone game, remains to be seen):

Help me make the worst possible Sorcerer build
I know there have been plenty of threads about optimizing spell choices for Sorcerers, but what would be the worst possible spell list (for you)? I know my first pick would be Infravision, but I don't even know what my second pick would be. I want to hold off on Find Familiar until after I've fought Nimbul. While it's tempting to adopt the greedy strategy of just picking the most useless spell available whenever I get the chance, I think it's important to plan this out properly. I want to make sure that my spells are not just junk but redundant junk

New cleric kits, pretty please?
So my favorite class by far is the cleric! Divine magic might not be the most popular out there, but i actually enjoy divine magic more so than arcane. Throw in the fact that you can put on a full plate, still cast your spells and have nifty abilities like turn undead, couldn't enjoy playing the cleric more... or could i?
The only problem i have with clerics in Baldur's Gate are the kits, which force you into a specific direction and removes many of your choices. Let's take a look at the cleric kits now, and i'm going to take the cleric stronghold in Baldur's Gate 2 as part of this discussion.
Priest of Talos - You're evil, deceiving and brutal. You'll sell your own mother AND dog if it makes Talos happy. While the stronghold quest is probably the best one out of the 3 cleric ones, it really awards you for backstabbing and being as mean and cruel as possible. Tell someone to go kill their wife's lover, kill someone yourself and frame someone else. It's fine if you're into being 100% cruel, but i'm rarely 100% anything so it fails there for me.
Priest of Helm - I love the idea of the Priest of Helm when it comes to alignment, I'm a sucker for lawful neutral. But once you do the stronghold quest it really annoy me how they follow the rules 110%. I'm all for following a set of rules, hence why i play lawful neutral, but when you have to do it every single time. The stronghold quest are so hit or miss for me. It doesn't help either that the watcher's keep should be a wonderful thing for Priest of Helms, but looking at those helmites, they really are fools all of them. This together with Anomen whom i'm not to keen on, really makes Helm stand out as something bad in my mind. Still it's the one i prefer out of the choices.
Priest of Lathander - You're good, like really good, and nice! Oh and you are good at slaying undead! I'm normally all for playing good, but it turns a bit too sweet with Lathander. And reading the description in the game of Priest of Lathander "And there are numerous wealthy temples devoted to him" makes me raise my eyebrow, what is this? Sune? Some greedy god? I'm probably taking it the wrong way but for me a temple of Lathander should be a spartan temple with only the necessary things. The stronghold is fine although very bland in my opinion, comes in last place on the list.
So for cleric strongholds : Talos -> Helm -> Lathander
And for cleric kits : Helm -> Talos -> Lathander
So what i would like to get introduced are a few kits that aren't so 100% following their alignment. I really liked what they did with the two new kits in IWD but no one have ported them as a mod to Baldur's gate yet and i'm a horrible modder. I'm curious as to why Beamdog doesn't add them to Baldur's Gate? And secondly why aren't there more cleric kits to start with? I would imagine they are very simple to do, the gods and history is already out there, you'll only have to add 2 spell like abilities and that's it. Yes i'm not expecting them to make new strongholds, but I'm sure that you could put them into one of the existing strongholds and i wouldn't mind. I can see from a roleplay view my character working for some other god that is friendly/close to his own god and in that way make choices that the other god might not agree with.
There was a BGEE mod out there for new cleric kits that also gave these kits to NPC's. This was awesome and i really enjoyed it, sadly the mod got broken with 1.3 and it doesn't look like it'll get fixed anytime soon.
Anyway, that's my rant!

The Nightmare Mode Thread
Post your Nightmare Mode experiences here, from challenges to fun moments.
Here's me killing Niz, the Black Dragon in Suldanessellar.
Party
--------
FMT
Berserker 7/Cleric
Kensai 9/Mage
Inquisitor
Assassin 9/Fighter
Sorcerer
Apparantly Nightmare mode gives monsters 3 * Normal HP +80, so he should have 680 HP. I managed to deal 686, so that's pretty accurate. The reason I used such cautious tactics was to ensure easy tallying of damage.

Headcanons - What does this NPC look like? [Spoilers, maybe]
If you don't know what a headcanon is, please click here. Spoiler: It has not as much to do with weapons or brain-containers as one might think.
Hello everybody ~
You know, only a handful of the characters featured in Baldur's Gate and Co. actually ever really show their faces and we can only make vague assumptions about their looks based on the teeny tiny character models, most of which are but copy pasted paint jobs. And sometimes, the official portraits don't match your own headcanons either.
So, I would like to hear what you imagine some of the characters to look like. Either you can describe them, post a photo of a look-alike actor, draw a picture, etc. Whatever helps you get your point across. If you wish to share a picture someone else has drawn, please give credit to the artist and put a link to the original artwork next to it. Thank you.
If you have a story about how you got your headcanon, make sure to share it as well![;) ;)]()
