Baldur's Gate City - boring?

I have tried to complete Baldur's Gate several and I make it into Baldur's Gate City. That is where the game comes to a complete end. The city is BORING! Anyone out there think the same?

Thanks to all of you for existing!

So long story short, I stumbled on BG as it was a game my older brother played when I was little before I could read. Fast forward to 2013-ish or whenever BG:EE came out. I picked up the game out of nostalgia and it became my favorite RPG and my favorite game of all time.

I also just wanted to say thanks to all of you for existing. What I mean by that is this forum has made my Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II experience MUCH better and it was already great! Between NPC mods (I can get my beloved Alora early <3), EE keeper, and class/kit mods, I've found I can create almost any character concept I can think of.

Currently it's a Drow Cleric/White Necromancer. Divine and Arcane mastery over life and death! Hell yeah! Necromancers are awesome!

Anyway, along with that you guys are great to talk to! You've all offered me tons of advice on stuff I would never be able to ask anyone else. None of my IRL or online friends play Baldur's Gate and so It's hard to ask them, "What do you think the coolest Necromancer class is?" When they have no idea what I'm talking about >_>

I'm just happy we have a community here that can share ideas, playthroughs, arguments, and just in general have a good time.

You guys are great! So I'd appreciate if you guys continued to exist so you could continue being great! I would name off specific people but there's so many of you I'd be here all day! XD

This game series is truly wonderful though. Definitely the best.

Anyway, I'm off to go play my Drow Ultimate Necromancer of healing and harming, YEAH!

Edit: Btw, the RP potential in these games are huge XD

Currently my Drow guy is wearing a helmet to conceal is Drowness (Explains why people don't kill me on sight >_> <_<)

Edit the Second: Errr, had to re-roll because I just realized a worshiper of Velsharoon might not be a White Necromancer XD Went with Pale Master instead. Also, the mod I'm using for the awesome Mage sub-kits is Tome and Blood. It's my favorite mod <3

Release date is getting ever closer and i cant help but wonder how fares my favorite mod. Cant imagine playing without it. And im sure many others feel the same.

Has any brave soul taken it as his/hers project to bring Ascension to bg2:ee.

So, is Planescape: Torment, next?

After all, it uses the same engine as BG and IWD. And it is a great game.

Quick Question about Dorn (BGEE1&2)

Heya,

Planning a new playthrough which will be with a more evil based party.
Dorn kinda ends up as my 6th member, and I was wonder if dropping him and rerecruiting him a few times causes problem with his quests/romance.

I.e., I will need another Thief in BGEE while I duel Imoen, and during BG2EE I like to do get companions for a temporary time just to do their quest. During those times I will have to drop Dorn probably, hence the question.

TIA!

The (solo no-reload) adventures of Norgath, dwarven Bounty Hunter of Candlekeep

With @semiticgod's exciting Spiders hunting after Melissan, @OlvynChuru's Jester continuing his pacifist mass murdering ways, and @bengoshi's archdruid Yahiko still going strong, I felt the need to try my hand again at an ambitious solo adventure. My other, more roleplayed run with a custom party is still in progress (and will be updated sometime soon I hope). In order not to confuse both journals, I decided to make a separate thread for this run. Besides, who knows what good not journaling the current run in a thread called We're All Doomed might do. ;)
Here is Norgath:
image
As I said, this is going to be an ambitious run, i.e. one that includes metagamimg. However, whether I want it or not, I always incorporate some roleplaying in my gaming, so it would be foolish to expect myself to behave differently this time. I have particular difficulty doing evil things with good characters, much more so than doing good things with evil characters. Therefore Norgath's Lawful Evil alignment is convenient. It allows him to do evil things (such as the Assassinations mod quests in BG2). At the same time his lawfulness and his calculating mind (note the excellent mental stats) ensure that his good actions make some sense to me as well. The physical stats are optimized for survivability purposes, with 19 CON, 20 with the Tome, minimizing the penalty to saves vs death when the Claw of Kazgaroth is equipped. CHA is a bit of a dumpstat, though I could have gone all the way to 2, and optimize INT and WIS. With 7 CHA (after the Tome), Norgath will just be an almost stereotypical blunt, surly Dwarf.

The most important mods I'm playing with are Ascension, QuestPack with its revised Hell Trials, Song & Silence, Rogue Rebalancing, SCS I and II (v21), Wheels of Prophecy, and aTweaks. Besides those, Thalatntyr's Item Upgrade in BG1 and Weimer's Item Upgrade in BG2 allow Norgath to get some items upgraded by Thalantyr and Cromwell respectively. Assassinations, Back to Brynnlaw, and Sellswords offer a couple of new adventures in SoA. Finally, I'm using a number of tweaks from BG2Tweaks and BGTTweaks that facilitate different aspects of gameplay. Most consequential are the Un-Nerfed Thac0 table, maximum HP at level up (but also max HP for all enemies), and importation of gear from BG1 into Irenicus' Dungeon.

What is your favourite BG movie/cutscene?

Here's me killing Niz, the Black Dragon in Suldanessellar.

Apparantly Nightmare mode gives monsters 3 * Normal HP +80, so he should have 680 HP. I managed to deal 686, so that's pretty accurate. The reason I used such cautious tactics was to ensure easy tallying of damage.

Why are people/deities interested in the Bhaalspawn & Charname? (Theory thread, spoilers..)

$

Good day!
Since I'm afraid to keep derailing the adventure Y thread I thought I post my theories here
and you, dear readers, feel inclined to discuss them. =)
Also, my theories depend on two things: You have at least talked to certain NPCs and thus recognize them
in Amn and you have not killed them in a way that prevents ressurection. =P

Thank you for your time and let us begin ^_^

NPCs:

Neera:
As mentioned before I think Mystra has her hand in her appearance (don't worry I will keep divine
intervention to a minimum =P) , but Mystras personal motivation will be written further down.
So, why would Mystra send someone as Neera? Simple. If she would send one of her choosen, she would
openly show her interest in charname - which would alert her enemies and might be too much for Ao-
and it would also bring the personal enemies of the send chosen to the discussion, thus it would be too risky.
But Neera is easy, she knows Charname - and thus has an "excuse" to aid him - and her wild surges could be
manipulated without her realizing it. Also, Mystra is a good goddess and thus would be interested in helping
people surviving their magic, thus she should like Neeras quest..
Rasaad:
This one is a bit tougher to get, mostly because his motivation is completly unrelated to Bhaal.
Algoroth is the chosen of Shar, goddes of darkness, secrets and brooding. He mostly travels through the
land to create discord (Havn't got my campaign book at hand, so I'm not 100% sure here, sorry =/ ), so I would
assume he is in Amn to do exactly that. But why Amn? Well, Sarevoks plan destabilised the region and thus
this is the perfect time to weaken Amn.
Dorn:
Will add later, need to ponder that first..

Imoen:
Imoen is Charnames sister. I always had that impression, not because they are related by blood
(which is debatable) but because their past. Both were brought to Candlekeep by Gorion, they were the only
children there and so on. As your sister she follows you and worries about you and this makes me belive
that even if you kick her out (how can you do that? You are heartless O_O), she will follow you.
Khalid & Jaheira:
They are harpers and thus are annoying and meddlesome... But seriously, They knew Gorion, they know of
you (including your heritage). If you don't take them with you they will still follow you for two reasons. First, they
will want to make sure the (foster) child of their old friend is more or less safe and secondly to keep an eye on
a possibly dangerous Bhaalspawn, to ensure the LEGACY of Gorian is safe...
Minsc & Dynaheir:
If you charm Dynaheir you will find out that she is send to investigate Bhaalspawns. You are one
and killed the other one in the Area. She will keep doing her duty - which is investigating you...
I personaly believe that she allied herself with Khalid, Jaheira and Imoen after Charname left them behind
(to make sure they are not in danger after the rumours start) to follow him and their agenda..
Xzar & Monteron:
They are Zhentarim send to investigate the Iron Crisis, they found out that a Bhaalspawn is behind it
and that the Harpers are in the area to investigate that and a certain individual (which may or may not be
a Bhaalspawn). Manshoon most probably thought it would be wise to find out more about the Harpers interest,
thus they followed Jaheira/Khalid till they vanished. After searching they found the next Harper chapter
in Athkatla, with known results..
I will add more later..
I need to check some facts first and also grab something to eat =P
..And yes, I love creating theories ^_^

Have a nice day!

Best Monk class?

$

Feel free to discuss which is your favorite Monk class and why … both for role-playing AND for meta-gaming reasons. I finally decided to play a monk, and went with a Dark Moon Monk, and it's going decently. I do feel the sting of lacking stunning blow though. I'm not afraid to restart however, and I'd be interested to see which kit (or lack there of?) people say is best and why.

Fighter>Druid or Avenger Druid?

$

Yet another of my no-reload characters died. My poor Cleric had just finished BG1EE and then got cocky with a group at the Den of the Seven Vales.

Sooo... I wanted to try out a Druid. I know that people say they're underpowered, but I'm learning to love the challenge of Divine magic classes. I'm coming round to thinking that being a mage just makes the game too easy.

I'm not overly keen on fighting play-styles in my main character, but I can see how a Fighter>Druid (dualled around level 9?) would synergise with the Druidic spells (e.g. Iron Skins). And there would be no loss of Druid spell slots with this build (is that correct? They stop getting spell slots at level 25 right?). The downside would be the regaining of lost Fighter levels once dualled, which could only happen in SoA. This could be painful. Also, it would be nice to play a Druid from the get-go.

The alternative is the Avenger Druid, which has some nice extra spells and shapeshifts. Another advantage is that I can also play as a Druid from the very start. I also like the idea of being very caster-orientated (even if inferior in terms of power to the mage). The downside is that he won't be able to hit anything very hard when his spells run out, or when enemies start saving against everything and he has to rely on melee combat.

Anyone got any ideas to help me choose?

If you were to install the original, unmodded games, could you make a saga run without any mods? Fixpacks do not count for the purposes of this poll.

I, for one, could not do it. Limited stacking? Not happening anytime soon.

Baldur's gate fame

Do you think there will ever be a game as good as Baldur's gate?

I have been playing the series since year 2000 and tried many newer strategy RPGs without any comparison to Baldur's gate.

Neverwinter nights was good but lacked the replayability of Baldur's gate. I have conflicted feelings about dragon age which I think was spoiled by design for consoles. Temple of elemental evil was fun and very strategic however the complete lack of story was a disappointment. Divinity original sin was terrible in my opinion and despite all my experience playing RPGs seem too difficult.

Single class vs. dual or multi with a party of 6?

$
0

I played and replayed the BG trilogy countless times when they first came out. Enough to do each romance and each stronghold quest anyway, but always with single class characters. My enjoyment of the game comes from the party banter and dynamics of the NPCs and charname. I'm not trying to powergame or ascend to godhood before the end of SoA, so going with less than a full 5 companions is unacceptable for me.

After getting into the EE games and browsing around this and other forums I'm beginning a run with a dual class just to see what all the fuss is about, but I'm really wondering if it'll play out in a party. I can see the strength in a solo or small party where leveling happens more quickly and you need the utility, but for the most part, my party MVPs are always the single class characters.

What say you all?

Dungeons & Dragons Legends of Baldur's Gate

Non-wizard wizards...

$
0

Strange title, I know. But it got your attention, right?

I have a question. Could someone tell me if I am interpreting this correctly?

In D&D, there are several ways to use magic, and the wizard class is just one of them.

(1) Bards. Sure, they cast spells. But is a bard really a special kind of sorceror? Let me explain. Their bard songs cause magical effects. They can heal wounds (war chant of the sith), they can make the recipient immune to spell effects (such as fear, confusion, etc), and they always work for all allies within range. Even if people have very different tastes in music, and even if someone would find a musician in a battle to be distracting. So is it the case that bard songs are magical in nature?

(2) Monks. Are they really wizards? As I see it, wizards take magical energy, use their body as a conduit, and then release it in a controlled manner. This is why in the black pits 2 the teleporting mage gets chunked when the prison wards don't let him release the energy. Given all of the special powers of monks, are they wizards who, rather than releasing magical energy in a controlled manner, internalize it and use it to power themselves?

These are people who can punch through steel, can run faster than any normal human, can become immune to diseases, normal weapons, etc. So is it true that they are in fact, a different kind of wizard?

(3) All non-caster classes. Fighters, thieves, etc. They start out as normal people. They can take one, maybe two or three, sword blows before they die. Pretty standard stuff, right? However, as they level up, they can take more and more punishment. To the point where one can take a direct hit from a dragon and get right back up. Or where several dozen arrows become an annoyance.

It is because of this, that I have my theory: In Faerun, magic is part of the world. Every living thing is infused with it.

Some classes directly learn how to shape it.
* Wizards learn how to actually see the world for it is, and to manipulate the energy.
* Monks are the same as wizards, only they draw magic into themselves and rather than release it, use it to strengthen themselves.
* Clerics/Druids learn how to communicate with the divine, and use their deities to shape magical energy.

Other classes represent people who, without training, use their special talents to use magic.
* Sorcerors are merely wizards who are naturally talented enough to not need training.
* Fighters and rogues are merely monks, who are talented enough to do some of what monks do without the training.
* Paladins and Rangers are a mixture of both.

And of course, the people who have the natural talent to do this are exceedingly rare. This is why there are so few people in Faerun who can reach high levels. Look at BG1 for example. Flaming fits mercenaries, amnian soldiers, gnolls, hobgoblins...they all hover in the lvl 1-3 range. Very, very few of them ever go past that. Commoners are even more squishy.

This makes me come to the conclusion that adventurers are people who have the natural talent to make use of the energy that infuses everything. It is what makes them special. It also means that when you get to the higher levels, even if you are a fighter, you are indeed practicing a certain brand of magic, even if you don't realize it.

Am I alone in thinking this way? Or is a figher just a fighter and I am overthinking this?

Viconia will not talk to me

ok so I'm playing bg2 with a romance with viconia only thing is she will not start the romance. With me specifically. So I load it up in eekeeper and I notice I have no globals for her so I put them in.
ViconiaMatch 1
ViconiaRomance 1
ViconiaRomanceActive 1

And she still won't talk to me. Is it cuz she's a b!tch or maybe cuz dorns been barking up the wrong tree. Why will she not speak to me at all.
