Help: the red dragon disappeared!

$

I was really struggling against Firkraag, has attracted it near to its cave`s entrance, so I was about to chicken-run it, but after a quick-save at the floor above it, i went back and it simply disappeared! I ran over every place and it is really missing. Too bad i don`t have any other close save before the battle.

Can anyone tell me why this happened and how to make it appear again?
Or should I desist of this dragon that went to outer plane?

Which BG1 minor NPC would you have liked to have returned in BG2 (Joinable or otherwise)

I've been thinking about some BG1 NPCs who had interesting stories or fun cameos. I personally would have liked to see many again. I'm sure many share this sentiment, but I don't know which characters seemed most popular.

So now I want to see what characters stuck in the minds of most players. I'd like to see some people share what characters from BG1 they would have liked to see in SoA or ToB, and perhaps a word or two about how they would like the reunion to go down (ie place, situation, moment, etc.)

It could be anyone, from Eltan Sivlershield to Larry, Darryl and Darryl

I'll post one of mine below and eagerly await your opinions!

If They Made a Baldur's Gate Movie: Redux, The Definitive Casting

Alright, alright, before you roll your eyes at me and sigh, this perennial discussion seems to have resurfaced over in 'Teh Meme' thread again, with some pretty good suggestions too, so rather than clog that thread up with OT stuff let's gather them all here. (Or of course we could summon Xzar to perform thread necromancy on about a dozen other similar threads!

I'll fire the opening salvo and throw George Clooney as a suggestion for casting as Keldorn Firecam, and the no-brainer of Joe Manganiello as Anomen.

Have at it!

New to BG1 - Party set up/dual classing.

Hey guys I'm new to BG1 but i've played BG2 quite alot during my teenage years. Can you give me some advice regarding party set up and dual classing.

I'm thinking this time round, i'm going to roll a human fighter/thief dual class.

What level would you recommend i should dual class and weapon proficiency i should take.

Also thinking my party set up would be:

Kaigan - tank
Minsc - bruiser
Viconia - healer
Edwin - mage

6th character slot could be Imoen thief/mage or a ranger npc.

What do you guys think? Also what should my alignment/reputation be to keep my party from leaving?

I bought the enhanced edition from steam, could i port the saved game over to BG2?

I'm sorry for so many unstructured questions, i'm just listing them as they pop into my head.

And as always, thanks for all the help/advice.

Are there any female NPCs that Coran WON'T hit on?

During my current playthrough, Coran has told Branwen that she's the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, and also that her figure is too fine to be risked adventuring.

Would he try the same lines on Shar-Teel or Faldorn if either of them are in the party with him? I'd sure LOL at the sight of that.

The armour conundrum (or what classes/kits should be allowed to wear helmets and use shields)

I could have made this into a poll, but polls are generally fairly limiting and I wanted to focus more on discussion anyways.

When I say "helmet" I'm not talking about Ioun stones or the King Strohm mask (or some other similar quest-related mask that everyone can wear). I'm just talking basic helmets.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since time immortal the question of what "cannot wear armor" means has plagued many a mind.

For the Shapeshifter it means that you cannot wear anything in your armor slot (such as studded or leather armor) but you can still wear a helmet and use a shield (buckler). Other druid kits also limit the armor you can wear to leather (similar to a thief) but you can still wear helmets and use bucklers.

For a mage/sorcerer it means you can wear a robe (including a robe that sets your AC), you cannot wear armor (like leather, studded, etc), and you cannot wear a helmet or use a shield.

For a thief they cannot wear armor greater than studded leather, which apparently includes helmets. But you can still use a shield (all be it in a limited capacity). Same thing for the bard (though they can use chainmail).

For a kensai you can't wear armor (leather, studded leather, plate mail, etc), a shield or a helmet.

Monks can't wear armor (leather, studded leather, etc), a helmet, or a shield.

and so I ask should the descriptions for these classes be changed to reflect what "armor" they are actually prevented to use? Or should classes/kits be changed in some way to create greater consistency here? (feel free to discuss an alternative to these two thoughts as well)

So i want to do and evil run through of the entire series from bg1-tob using a evil party i haven't used before, so please help me decide a few things right now the definite members i want to take are:

Myself (dark moon monk)
Dorn
Shar-Teel
Skie
Eldoth

so should i take Faldorn or Tiax as my healer cleric?

also is there going to be anyone that leaves the party, i know Shar-Teel and Eldoth dislike eatchother, but does it cause a conflict?

The Summoning Process

How does summoning work? Pronounce some syllables and poof a fire elemental is wrested out from its plane to do the bidding of its conjurer? If the summoned creature dies in this plane, does it cease to exist in its original plane?

What creatures can be summoned? Can prime materials such as humans/elves, halfings, etc. conjured by other creatures like demons? Imagine LG paladins conjured and dominated by CE demons.

Irrational love for particular spells.

Does anyone else have particular spells that they *really* like using... generally for reasons other than gaming power I mean? (A good rule of thumb is whether it'd be worth fitting it in a sorcerer...)

I have two:
- Clairvoyance - I really like having a fully visible map.
- Death Spell - ok, so by the time you get it the enemies it affects are weak enough for a couple if fighters to run through in short order, but there's something very cool about just switching off a dozen hobgoblins in a single round! (Mage's kill count catches up really quickly at this point!)

Come suggest some theme songs for each NPC!

For the music lovers out there!
What songs do you guys think would be fitting for each NPC? Share a tune that fits their character, their story or their attitude.

All suggestions welcome!

I'll begin with some:

Due t his marriage difficulties and his wife's name, I'll give Keldorn "Maria, Maria" by Santana. The pain in his voice when he says "Maria!" after his wife says "What if I don't love you anymore?" is just heartbreaking. Also, Manowar's "Heart of Steel" just describes his attitude toward evil perfectly for me

Dorn must have some kind of song about being badass and evil. The songs "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood would fit, but I'm a big metal fan, so I'll give him Iced Earth's "Pure Evil"
image

Eldoth just has to be an outlaw country song, so I either have to go with "Didn't Your Mama Tell ya 'bout Boys Like Me" by Montgomery Gentry or for a better song, Iron Maiden's "Running Free"

Skie would definitely be the Upper Middle Class spoiled girl who totally thinks she's cool for listening to rrap, so I'd have to give her some Kanye (the go-to artist for these people). She's also the totally non-metal sorority girl who constantly misuses Dio's horn sign while listening to Blink 182

Archer or Kensai? (For taking through both games)

$

Hi everyone, not sure if some of this has been discussed before.

Currently considering one of the aforementioned characters to run through both games with so what I would like to know is:

1) Are the bows and such fixed now? As in can a +4 bow hit enemies requiring such a weapon without the relevant enchanted ammo.

2) Would going for longbows over crossbows or the often praised short-bows still be viable throughout both games?

Or am I just better off gritting my teeth through early squishy and picking the Kensai (not quite sure on what weapons I'd focus on mind you as a pure Kensai)

help me with some basic strategies

I played BG back in the day. About a week ago I bought the Enhanced Edition and have been having a ball with it. I do think I'm really missing something though. I think the biggest thing I'm missing is on how to use thieves/thieving abilities. With Imoen I pretty much just use her to unlock chests and as a ranged attacker. There's got to be a lot better use.

I'd love to make use of her backstab, but I can't seem to figure it out. Should I just keep putting her in stealth over and over, so that when I stumble upon enemies, she's all set for it? Also, when I position her behind someone, as soon as I attack she leaves shadows. Am I missing something here?

My main is a stalker, and it took me til he was level 3 to notice that he's got a couple 'spells' (cure light wounds and charm animal) that I could use. That's the type of thing I'm looking for.

Also, Jahiera is a cleric, shouldn't she be able to turn undead?

Do you guys use up lots of potions? I keep everyone with a few healing potions but I try to use spells first if I can. But I feel like I'm just stockpiling all these others, maybe I should just use them up with reckless abandon?

What about buying magic items? I just spent virtually all of my gold on the +3 shadow armor for my main, only to find that he can't use it. So now Imoen has it.

Anyway I guess what I'm getting at is I feel like there's a lot of really basic strategies I'm missing out on or overlooking.

In battles, I tend to use sleep or web if there's a lot of low level opponents, but I find that web backfires more often than not (ie, I end up stuck in it myself, or I realize that I've got them caught in the web but they're still using ranged attacks). Maybe I should ditch web for something else? What other spells are good to use? I tend to stick to identify, sleep, magic missile...I don't seem to like any of the lv 2 spells yet.

Also, how do clerics learn new spells?

As you can see I've got lots of questions and I feel like I'm just rushing through this game and missing a lot.

I also want to check out mods at some point but I guess that's a different topic entirely...

Hexxat and the Copper Coronet after the Tomb.

Does anything actually happen? I had her join my party in the tomb and I head to the Coronet to meet the person she said she wanted to deal with. I hit the two hour mark and i'm not seeing anything. Did I miss something or does it not go anywhere?

is this 'hardcore' idea feasible?

$

I always feel a little cheap just reloading every time my party members die. Also, I sometimes have a hard time deciding who should be in my group, and want to try out different members. Those two things led me to this idea.

I was thinking about playing a 'hardcore' version where there are no 2nd chances....if a character dies, he dies. To counter this, I would play on the easiest setting. The idea would be that survival is of the utmost importance. I imagine I would go through lots of different party members, cause if Minsc dies I can always add Dorn, or whatever.

My fear is that, even still, I'd run into some situation where my whole party gets held and killed off or something, and then what? Do you guys think this idea of no 2nd chances is feasible for a fun playthrough if I play on the easiest setting? I'd have to be really careful to keep more healing potions and things like that in a pinch, and I'd have to do something I never do which is run away if I'm outmatched.

Innteresting Inns!

So in my most recent playthrough, I just realized that the Blade & Stars Inn is full of some pretty fun personalities!
There's G'axir the Seer, Shaella of Leira, Maple Willow Aspen (the commoner who seems to be able to like...explode into tree-farts when agitated), and Reginald "Longtooth" Worthington III. and some commoner dude who I'm going to pretend likes to huff kittens

Let's talk about Inns and Taverns and Bars and other such fine establishments of the Spine of the World and Sword Coast we like, for reasons!

Fighter / Mage Dual Class, for more of a mage character

$

So I want to play a mage for a full 1-2 playthrough but love the proficiencies you get from fighter for a mage. The real question is what level to switch over. Here's what I want from the build

ability to use bows / staves efficiently through the game, nothing crazy just somewhat effective
wear elven chain
not fall way behind in spell progression in difficult encounters
not switch so early that I hit the cap way early in BG2

3 is kinda the easy, hey im playing a mage i don't care about fighter really choice, But then I thought I would probably hit the cap for mage

Also would choosing a fighter kit help at all?

If caps aren't a big deal I will probably go with 3

So my choices are
3 +1 prof
6 +1 prof
7 +1 att
9 +1 prof
12 +1 prof
13 +1 att

Appreciate any help!

Which is the most difficult solo single class (kit or no kit) for BG Saga?
