What do you want to see in a new NPC?
This is actually a question with a few different parts, so feel free to answer only one part if you'd like. While working on portraits and browsing through existing mods, I've noticed that most tend to be dedicated to elves or half-elves, with a smattering of paladins for good measure. Others do exist, but with the new kits and content, there are certainly opportunities for more varied party members. I'm first curious first about what types of races and classes you'd like to see. Are there any that you feel are underrepresented?
Second, how important are each of the following for you when using a NPC mod?
1 - Dialogue with PC and other NPCs
2 - Romance option(s)
3 - Lore contribution (bringing in other story elements from FR lore)
4 - Additional quests
5 - Balance (in stats and items)
6 - Alignment/personality
7 - Portrait
8 - Sound set
9 - Technical writing (proper grammar, spelling, etc.)
10 - Something else not listed here
I'm hoping that by getting reactions from the BG community, modders (and those of us aspiring to release our own content) will get a better sense of what all of you want rather than creating what is "cool" from our own perspectives.

Yet another party composition and CHARNAME thread!
So I want to do a complete play through from BG1EE to BG2EE and I've somewhat settled on my endgame party for BG2 to be the following:
Korgan, Keldorn, Mazzy, Jan, and Neera. A ragtag and multifaceted bunch alignment wise that I've heard has a great deal of good banter without wanting to murder one another. Its got so much covered im still not sure who my main character should be. I've got Korgan and Keldorn on the front lines. I'll run Mazzy as an archer, Neera as potential romantic interest and chaotic artillery and Jan is the utility Swiss army knife. I suppose I need divine casting (or do I?) but what other niche is there for my character to fill? Druid, Cleric, Fighter/Cleric, Cleric/Thief? Something else entirely such as a Bard? Cleric/Ranger could be interesting but do I need another frontliner?
This brings me secondarily to BG1. I'd love to have a mingling of alignments that compliment each other there too. Obviously I want to have Neera there and Jan to have that parry continuity so other ideas that pull from the other alignments that won't be at each other throats?
Thanks for any and all input you can offer!

Neera's Quest (BGII:EE Spoilers)
Having problems.. dont read if you havent finished her quest!
Can Lanneth die? She just casts invis and hides forever, everyone else is dead and theres one door which requires a key. Resting and returns just resets the fight and her spells before he just hides again
Bug or tactic needed?

Class Restrictions on SoA Romances
I've been trying to find an answer to this on the forums, so I apologize if this question has already been asked. Are there class restrictions on the SoA romances? Specifically, I have a Mage/Thief and the Rasaad romance dialogue will not start. Will he not romance thieves? She's neutral, and I know the alignment restriction was lifted from BGI.

Does any know when will be this mod ready?

The STR requirement on Composite Longbows
...is insane. Isn't 18 supposed to be super heroic strength?
Seriously, who the hell would be able to use it in the entire Realms besides amazingly gifted humans/elves/dwarves, the ocasional half-orc or monstrous humanoids like ogres and others who would rather crush things to goo with melee weapons.
Sounds like making those would be a bad business, considering pretty much nobody would be able to achieve the hilarious power to manhandle the string.

Adul's BG Adventures (a diary-style playthrough)
Link to playthrough
I started this playthrough "project" sometime last year. It's been on hiatus for a while but I'm picking it up again and I've just posted a new episode. I'm putting it here in case someone's interested in reading it.
It's a fairly detailed diary-style written playthrough illustrated with screenshots. I use the BG1 NPC Project mod to add some flavor. I started playing the game in EasyTutu, but since the last episode I'm now playing it in BG:EE (I remade my character there). If all goes well I'll play this to the end of ToB.
I'm planning to post a new episode every week to every two weeks, as my spare time permits. If there's any interest here I'll announce any new episodes in this topic.
One last thing: if you decide to take a look and would like to give me feedback of any kind it is indeed very welcome, but please use either this topic or visit this link to do so. I'd like to reserve the playthrough page for the episodes.

Dual-class bug - game wont let me dual class to mage (no, its not a stat req. issue)
So this is weird. Im finally at a point where I dual class to a mage and this happens:
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/9523/fqxk.jpg
After picking my additional weapon profs, i get this screen which requires me to pick 2 level 10 spells.
The same also happens when i try to dual imoen and when i try to dual a vanilla fighter from a freshly started game.
Dualing to a thief works normally.
Im lost and i need help. Here are my mods.

Want to do every quest (possible) in game: Which PC?
As the title says, I'm looking for a PC capable of doing every quest in game, and ideally every NPC quest as well, and more to the point I want it to make sense. Since I feel I'd need to be some type of neutral to justify it, I'm thinking some type of bard, however, I am open to the opinions of the forum.
PS: This means in BG1 and BG2.

are halflings and gnomes the strongest races?! - relatively?
Halflings weigh 30 to 35 pounds.
Gnomes weigh 40 to 45 pounds.
Tiax, Jan, Quayle, and Alora can each carry 50 pounds without being encumbered. o_O That's more than they weigh and without being weighed down.
Mazzy is just an absolute monster at being able to carry 120 pounds without encumbrance. And that's FOUR TIMES her body weight. O_O
How is that even possible... just wow. Amazing!

Most Difficult BG Fights (1 & 2) + Black Pits 1/2
Just curious on other peoples experiences with the BG franchise, what boss/fights were hardest for you, here are mine.
BG1: Sarevok (obviously), Skeleton Warriors right before Sarevok in the maze with the traps (more annoying then difficult). When i fist started into the BG universe, being lvl1 in BG1 and getting killed before you could do anything was difficult..But then i learned ranged weapons are OP as hell in BG1, makes it a lot easier.
BG2: Firkraag (The other dragons may be better statistically, but at the level you have access to fighting him 8-10, etc... He was the hardest dragon overall for me). All the other dragons...I hate dragons, i can never hit them...Not sure if its because there AC is so low, or if they constantly Stoneskin or what, it seems like i use Combat Dispelling stuff and then try to hit them only to no avail...Not sure...Irenicus in hell was pretty difficult as well, but not nearly as difficult as the Dragons imo.
TOB: #1 for me was easily melissan...My god i wanted to kill myself during that battle... 2nd place goes to Sendai
Still haven't faced Demomorgan, as i am procrastinating on Watchers Keep, so don't know how hard he is yet.
TOBEE: (DORN QUEST SPOILER) Side note, if your an evil/neutral party and you do Dorn's quest, go to the heavens to get your name of the list to be killed, 2 dragons will appear next to eachother, and thru dialogue options you can either 1. Fight them, 2. Convince them not to fight you and leave. Difficulty wise, these were the toughest enemies period for me. I picked them off one by one by abusing the fact that they are "neutral" before you talk to them, i pulled 1 and killed him, then killed the other, however both fights were incredibly difficult, i would not have been able to fight both at once.
Black Pits: Final battle, but mostly because the beholder was so annoying.
Black Pits 2: Demi-Liches (Black Blade of Disaster FTW!)
So that was my experience with the franchise, did i forget any? What were your toughest battles?

Most Dreaded Spells
What spells do you hate the most when an enemy magic user pulls it on you?
Mine, by far, are these two: FOG spells, ICE STORM and CHAOS.
FOGS, all/any summoned creatures disappear, we're taking instant, damage, I pause and try to get my characters to run out of the cloud, but if I forget to turn off AI, they run right back in!
ICE STORM, same thing.
I've learned to pull back when these happen instead of trying to ZONE OF SWEET AIR or something; just get out of dodge. In the Sullendessalar (SoA), the Raksasha like to pull both of these too; I generally pull back and lo and behold, one or two will follow and get pummelled by us as they have culled themselves away from the herd.
But the worst, I think, is that CHAOS spell. Winning a battle depends on having control of your characters, and losing control of your characters is losing control of the battle.
CHARM spells are also a close runner-up, especially when they pull that on the strongest fighter who also happens to be wearing BOOTS OF SPEED ... and disastrous when pulled on the protagonist!

Hitpoints rant.
Since the latest patch came out, I'm finally dedicating the amount of time needed to go through BG:EE. I'm playing modless, but on insane difficulty. In the past, I've usually reloaded on level up to get max HP on every character. However, this time through, I'm trying to do minimal reloads, and am taking the first HP rolls I get. Well I've had horrible luck. Dorn is level 4 now and has only 20 HP, Rasaad is level 4 and I think he only has 17.
I really think randomizing the amount of HP gained is such a stupid rule for a game that is so heavily combat focused. I wish it was just a set amount of HP received no matter what. Ya I could reload to get max HP like I have usually done in the past, but I always felt dirty when doing it.
Do you guys usually reload to get max hp?

Help! Screwed up the Playhouse Stronghold
I had to go get a priestess to remove a curse, but I got there too late and I missed the chance. What can I do with the variables to help this? Higgold just says they had the chance, but the priestess left

Getting Owned Late-Game
In the last two fights, I'm finding myself frustrated with accusations of ridiculousness. I only played BG all the way through once before (I'm horrible at this, as I tend to re-start with new characters a lot), but do not remember the ending being so rough (either I was lucky the first time, or shifting to the BG2 engine made some encounters tougher.
Side note - I did win; it just took a lot of cheesiness on my part.
First: Outside the final scene
Specifically the group of baddies, including the Ogre Berserkers, the druid, the mage, the thief and (worst of all) the detonation arrows archer.
I realize I can shift spells and make people fire resistant, etc. It's fine if the game is a 'figure out what killed you, load a save, and go forth' sort of affair, but I doubt this to really be the case. I think I'm doing something wrong in this game and can't figure out what (this group finished Durlag's Tower, top to bottom, and also slew Aec'Lectec)...
Charname (Berserker halberdier)
Yeslick
Ajantis
Viconia (slings, but has the stunning mace)
Imoen (short bow)
Neera (slings and whatever spell substitutes itself for what I've told her to cast)
I ended up moving slowly, aggravating one enemy at a time for as long as I could. The mages and archer started, so I rushed to stop the explosions. It ended up working after most of the party was almost dead.
Then, the confrontation
The un-disarm-able traps in the middle are cheese of the foulest sort! Anyway, I figured it wouldn't be meta-knowledge to buff like crazy (I also disarmed the traps to the sides, which brought one of the doom knight thingies against us) before the fight. Another detonation arrow was unleashed upon us here.
Anyway, I used CloudKill (it seemed to weaken Sarevok aka Koveras) and did all I can to keep CHARNAME alive (rage plus DUHM with Regeneration Potion and Chant). The dimension door mage skipped past CloudKill, and was tough. I think we kept far enough south to avoid Aggravating the other two lackeys, and, as such, we were able to win.
I think the not-aggro'ing unseen opponents is cheese in a case where they're a group, but it's also sound tactics in that you shouldn't bite off more than you can chew. Is this winnable without cheese? I hear about solo players taking this group out and it seems impossible (what character can take two arrows of detonation, for instance)?
Just curious. I like challenging games, but this is more an exercise in frustration than anything else.

Why did Bioware forget about adding portraits to the game?
As the title. I've never understood why Bioware didn't add a couple of avatars that didn't already belong to a NPC. In BG 2 they did actually add a male orc picture. Still the other ones belong to either BG or BG 2 NPCs. Does anyone know why? Beamdog did however add 6 completely new ones which is nice.

transfering saves.
Hello, me and a few friends of my have recently been trying to play BG2:EE multi player. Unfortunately we've had a plethora of crashes and game breaking issues. We've managed to use the cheat console and google to hold the game together to get us through to the drow city. Unfortunately it's bugged out once again and this time it appears to be unfix-able.
Now we've played a decent amount so we're pretty invested in out game and we would like to play it through, but even if we do manage to fix the current problem, all the issues are sapping the fun out of the game. So, if possible we would like to transfer our game over to the original BG2 and finish it there.
Does anybody know if this is possible and how we would go about it?
Cheers.

How do you highlight selectable items, doors, switches, ect in an area
I distinctly remember being able to do that when I played this game years ago. I have terrible eyesight to the max. It really sucks sometimes. Did they change the key associated with it or did they remove it from the game?
p.s. super excited to finally have bought the EE version of the game to play through.

Improved Haste on items
There are three items in the game that I can remember which have Improved Haste x times per day modifier. These are Ring of Gaxx, Bracers of Blinding Strike and Amulet of Cheetah Speed. The way I remember these worked in Vanilla version was that they cast the spell as it is in the game, which lasted for 3 rounds + 1 round per level of the caster. The exception was the Bracers that explicitly state that their Improved Haste lasts for 20 seconds, although I'm not sure about that since I can't remember ever using the bracers.
Now I'm playing BG2EE and I look at these items. The Ring lasts 10 seconds, the Bracers still last 20 seconds and the Amulet is 138 seconds. Also anyone playing the game might want to know that Bag of Holding/Gem Bag bug for resetting the daily uses no longer works (thank God for that). Now considering that the amulet is ultra lategame item, I'm fairly content with it being as it is, although I must say it still is absolutely ridiculous compared to anything else, especially since it can be swapped after casting the spell. The biggest change is the Ring of Gaxx. 10 seconds means it cannot be combined with abilities like Critical Strike or Assassination. I'm not sure if devs realize how big change in metagame this is, especially for solo players like myself.
Don't get me wrong either. I'm not mad that Gaxx was nerfed. Indeed, considering the overall balance of the game, this change is more than welcome. However, as a rigid minmaxer, I'm quite mad that I have to learn about these changes as I play. On an unrelated note, I also just found out that Dwarven Defender Defensive Stance doesn't stack with Hardiness. When was this change made, I sure as hell didn't see it in any changelogs? Would a complete changelog with every difference between vanilla and EE really be too much to ask? It's pretty much a standard practice with other game developers.
