Black Pit 1 Party of younger NPCs from the Black Isle FR Games

$

I recently made a fun party of NPCs from the FR, usually younger versions of characters you have met
I pretended it was an adventure from their youth, and how they leveled up :p

Keldorn (LG Human Inquisitor): I gave him higher dexterity and lower wisdom to match his age (and used the Generic Handsome Man in Plate Armor for his Picture)

Gorion (LG Human Conjurer) using Edwin's Picture from BG1

Hrothgar from IWD (NG Human Fighter-->Cleric) using Anomen's Portrait

Saemus Freakin' Havarian (CN Human Swashbuckler) using Corans pic

Oswald Fiddlebender from IWD (CG Gnome Illusionist) using Tiax (lol)

Arundel from IWD (TN Human Druid) using that new portrait of the weird bearded (dwarf) guy who is holding a coin and has a hood.

Anyone else have ideas?
I was thinking maybe Melissan, Irenicus, Tethtoril, Scar, Erevain with his broadsword and a younger Haer-dalis or something.

Please share :) I plan on playing again with different classes. I'm for sure going to use Balthazaar as a Sun Soul Monk or a plain Monk. Looking for maybe another Cleric Class

Gave Perdue wrong dialogue options - can I still get his quest?

I am currently role-playing a minimal reload challenge, and I gave Perdue the wrong dialogue options to get his quest (I said, "No, I haven't seen anyone with a dog's head" rather than "A dog's head?"). I hadn't had to reload the game yet, and I didn't want to break the immersion by doing one now, so I just continued on my way.

When I do come across the sword later in the game, can I at least give it to him even if I never officially got his quest? Can I try to charm him to get the quest? It would seem kinda silly for me to be standing there holding his sword while he's pacing around, whining about how he lost his sword.

Solo m/c help please

I've played a bit of BG2 and decided I should start out at the beginning, that being said I want to go against the grain a little and try to solo. I've read enough to realize that without much knowledge of the game trying to solo is very inadvisable but I'm stubborn and think with enough reloading I'll eventually get through it. The main problem so far though is trying to get any kind of xp in the start, I as an m/c only seem to get 1 attack spell and my hit rolls apparently don't seem to exist as with maybe and hour and a half of attacking things and reloading I have yet to strike something successfully. Stats are 15,16,17,19,16,3 (gnome right now)

Essentially is there any way I'm missing of either gaining another attack spell early in the game so I can have an easier time of killing something, or likewise making my hit chance with melee (though I really want to be a pure caster) go up? And if not whats the best way to lvl solo at first before I start to come into some spells?

And again I know if I'm asking these questions I probably shouldnt be trying to solo but I'm stubborn and thats how I like to play games, with 1 main character :). Thanks for the help.

Question about Jaheira... (spoilers?)

I've finished a couple of her quests, killed that group of Harpers that wanted to imprison charname and avoided a fight with that other Harper group. I want to put Jaheira's quests on hold for a bit and take someone else but she seems to have an emotional breakdown and perma-leaves if I remove her from the group.

Is there any way to just tell her to sit in the corner for a while so I can pick her up again later?

Hexxat for Good-aligned Team

Would I still be able to enjoy Hexxat as a permanent team member if my character has good alignment and dialogue choices are mostly for the good? Please answer with bare minimum spoilers. I don't mind spoilers for this question though - will I be able to change her alignment via in-game choices?

Keldorn: How old do you think he is?

So, every now and again the "best romance mod" discussion crops up and (predictably) I champion the Keldorn romance as being a really good mod and not just as a romance, but whenever I, and others, mention it it seems to provoke an: "Ewww, man, he's old!" reaction. The mod deals with the whole "Ew, man, he's married" thing quite well so I'll not cover that but really, how old you think he is? Sure, he's got a grey goatee and grey streaks through his hair but there aren't that many wrinkles on his face in his portrait, and also he has a comparatively young wife - she's certainly described as such - who, it's indicated in the vanilla version of the game, he has a full and intimate relationship with, plus his two daughters of teenage years and younger. Sure, I can understand where the idea that he's old comes from, but I think it's a case of us projecting modern ideas onto a fantasy character, that's why I'm interested.

I didn't pick Hexxat up with my Berserker/Mage, but I would like to romance her with my lady paladin. However, if she is one of those NPC's that leave if you do too many quests that reward tons of gold AND reputation I don't see that working out.
Can you change her alignment like with Anomen? I don't want to bother starting the romance if it's doomed.

Worst thing you've done to an NPC

What's one of the worst thing's you've done to an NPC? You know, leave Imoen in Spellhold (don't deny it, you wanted to leave her at least once), ask Maple Willow Aspen about her parents' tree fixation, that sort of thing.

Throne of Bhaal: New Quest Starting Locations (Maybe Spoilers?)

So I'm going through ToB and trying to figure out how to start the new quest chains for all for EE characters. At least one seem's to be based off a plot event so I'm a bit concerned about missing the opportunity for Dorn as Hexxat as they're not in my main party. Does anyone know where the quests for those two start?

For those interested:
Rasaad - Random encounter when moving between world map locations
Neera - When speaking to merchant you save after first porting outside Saradush

Dragon Disciple in BG2:EE

Ok, so in BG:EE, Sorcerers got a kit.

And it was cool. Dragon Disciple trades one casting of your level 1/2/3/4 spells per day in return for -2AC, 50% Fire Resistance, +1 con (which isn't really a big deal on mages), better hit dice, and the breath. Basically, a slightly less capable Sorcerer that compensates with slightly better natural defenses and a nifty ability. All in all, this is a fairly even trade in BG:EE, maybe even slightly in the favor of the Kit over the vanilla Sorcerer.

But with BG2:EE on the horizon, a lot of things change. In mid-late SoA and especially in ToB, AC becomes less and less important defensively - enemies with very low, even negative THAC0 and decent APR start to become common. The extra HP from those early levels might save you - from about one additional attack when enemies regularly hit for 20+ damage. And now you're not giving up just low-level spell slots, you're giving up an extra Time Stop or Improved Alacrity, Horrid Wilting or Power Word: Blind, etc.

In short - what is the Dragon Disciple going to get to compensate for the loss of those oh-so-incredible high-level spell slots? I hope it's something beyond further Fire Resistance/AC/Breath Weapon progression!

Questions about tieflings

For BG2EE I wanted a totally new character. This is what I ended up with, after far to many hours in Photoshop (photo on me to the right, should anyone be insecure which is which): :-D

image

Now to my questions:

1. Should I play the tiefling as a Human, with the possibility to Dual, or as a Half-Elf with the Multiclass options? Haer'dalis really gives no answer, as he's a Bard. Reading on the Forgotten Realms wiki, I tend to lean towards the Human/Dual choice.

2. Do Tieflings get any racial benefits or disadvantages?

Finally, feel free to suggest cool classes and combos. I made the portrait as "neutral" as possible. The Sword on his back could just as well be a large knife, the Staff a Wand of Magic Missile usable by several classes and so forth. His name will be Astafas though, as my old forum name has a certain infernal smell of sulphur to it. :-D

Saving Throws

I have been playing BG for years and I am embarrassed to admit I still don't understand how saving throws work. I know they are great and they can protect you from nasty magic and the more the better but that's about it.

I would love a simple explanation of how they work. Is there a limit to how low/high they should be? Will great saving throws make me immune to negative status effects?

Basically I'm making a fighter/cleric and I'm trying to decide between dwarf and half-Orc. Are the shorty saves really that big a deal?

Thanks!!

Strongest single class Level 1 Character the Elven Archer?

$

I just started a new game with an Elven Archer, and I am quite impressed with how powerful this kit is!

At level 1 and a composite long bow bought from the prologue inn, and just with standard arrows, my character's stats are as follows:

* THAC0: 14
* Damage per hit: 5-10 (avg: 7.5)
* Attacks per round: 5/2
* AC: 4 (could be lower, but I am wearing regular leather armor, not studded leather)

For a pure class level 1 character, that is incredible! I'm not sure how half of an attack works in AD&D2e, but let's say for sake of simplicity that she gets 2 attacks in the first round, a conservative estimate (rounded down the extra 1/2 attack). Let's also assume she is facing a character with an AC of 4, which seems reasonable at the game start as well. This means that, ignoring critical hits, she will hit 2x in the first round of combat an average of 25% of the time, and do an average of 15 damage!

I was able to take on the Ogre south of the Friendly Arm Inn with only Imoen in my party and no cheesy tactics. Silke was a piece of cake in Beregost as well, as a Level 1 with only Imoen in my party.

Could this possibly be the strongest level 1 character that is a single class?

Update this banter guide page with EE NPCs.

Found this cool list of who banters with who, but obviously it doesn't have the EE npcs yet. This isn't really a feature request for Overhaul, but rather anyone with the will and time to update that page. I (and probably many others) would be really grateful at least!

Kensai/Thief dual at level 13 in full party?

Would this still be the better option to go with or should I just dual at 9 if I plan on using a full party? This is with me using True Grandmastery, btw, so the extra half-attack at level 13 is not as necessary.

Release date is getting ever closer and i cant help but wonder how fares my favorite mod. Cant imagine playing without it. And im sure many others feel the same.

Has any brave soul taken it as his/hers project to bring Ascension to bg2:ee.

[1.2] The State of the Dimension Door Spell

$

Greetings, all!

The dimension door spell is famous throughout some parts of the BG community. In BGEE 1.2, it allows you to teleport anywhere within the caster's line of sight.

How do you get it? A third party program like EEKeeper, or using the console! (It's probably impossible to get in an unmodded BGEE otherwise.)

Using EEKeeper, a level 10 Wild Mage, and a level 9 Sorceress, I've found these things:

-A scroll of dimension door works just fine.

-A Wizard can scribe dimension door into his repertoire. There's no way to see the icon in the spellbook, nor prepare the spell, nor cast the spell as a Wizard. Not even if you have 3 preparations of it. Oddly, a spell slot filled with dimension door is invisible, as if it weren't there. You can be a level 10 Wizard with 2 preps of dimension door and it seems like you're missing 2 spell slots.

-A Sorcerer, however, can add it as one of his spells known and cast it normally.

The effect is... normally underwhelming. It only allows the caster to teleport within his sight range, not the entire revealed sight range. Far sight, wizard eye, other party members, and other means of revealing the map beyond the range of one party member don't work in an unmodded game.

Why would you want to cast dimension door like this? Sequence breaking and bypassing things and personal fun time!
