Which Neutral Alignment Do You Prefer to Play?

This is the third--and last--poll to see how significant alignment tendencies are for us in role playing our PCs (and NPCs). While "messier," tendencies provide both complexity and subtlety to the standard nine alignment matrix. On the other hand, they can also add unnecessary tedium to the game.

The Evil and Good alignment tendency polls may be found here:

*I didn't include Lawful Good (TN) or Chaotic Good (TN) because there are only 10 poll options. Feel free to indicate this in the comments if you prefer to play one of those alignments. There is an option in the poll for Neutral alignments that allows you to choose True Neutral with a tendency toward one of the four absolute alignments.

In the original BG, none of these actions gave XP, yet in BG2, they did. In some cases, the XP contribution in BG2 was pretty significant. IN BGEE, we did get XP but it was 1% or so of what you would otherwise have gotten. Will we see in BG2EE a return to the 1000xspell level xp gain for scribing spells into your book, and similarly for the rogue skills? Or are we continuing with what was done in BGEE?

*hoping for the older school xp gains*

Coherence of new and old content *spoilers*

Hey everybody!

This addresses mainly new players, who did NOT
play original Baldur's Gate 1 before they played
Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition.

I would like to know if you can tell the difference between
old and new content ingame.

Do you recognize the new content that was added with the Enhanced Edition as such?
Immediately? After a while? And how exactly can you tell?

If you are an old BG1 veteran, then try to imagine you were not and you
played Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition for the first time.
Does the new content stand out in some way?
Could you tell it apart from the old one?

Example: You walk through Beregost and run into Neera.
Do you get the idea that she has been added with the Enhanced Edition and
that she does not belong to the old content? If so, when and why do you get that idea?

If you did not know what content had been added to Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition beforehand, would you still be able to tell what's new and what's old?

my character kind of sucks

Sorry, I'm basing this off (my not very reliable) memory, as I'm not at home currently, but my character is basically as follows:

neutral evil gnome fighter/illusionist .. currently around level 9, proficient in two-handed swords, flails, crossbows, two-handed weapon style

equipment: flail that poisons (forget name) + large shield; sword of chaos; heavy crossbow; traveler's robe; bracer's of defense A.C. 6

spells: mostly mirror image, haste, tiny fire meteors (whatever it's called), protection from normal weapons, minor globe of invulnerability, fireball, rebuff spells etc.

I'm currently investigating the Temple Ruins.. finishing up side-quests before I see Bodhi (to give you an idea where I am).

my party consists of Viconia, Edwin, Korgan, Jan and myself/aka Scruffy. I generally focus on using Viconia and Korgan and my character in melee, with Edwin providing backup spellcasting (Jan's a little redundant). because of the armor restrictions, Scruffy isn't really robust enough for melee, but he's kind of a boring spellcaster and as an illusionist lacks the decent buffs usually afforded to a cleric. I suppose I could outfit him with a better crossbow, bolts and spells and forget the hand-to-hand combat .. I'm just frustrated because this happened in my last BG1 playthrough as a Mage/Thief .. she always felt half-evolved

I have no complaints- I'm just happy to play BG on my MAC and that the games have been given new life. I don't care about ANY of the issues. The absolute joy I receive from playing BG EE surpasses all that.

All I want now is to play through with a character from 1 to 2 and if you find it in your hearts to bless us with 3 I might just cry.

As everyone knows there is a new thief in town: a young lady by the name of Hexxat. Will this make Yoshimo the most redundant NPC of all time?

When BG2:EE arrives will Yoshimo still find a place in your party?

Sturdy or not? Maximum damage from one hit recieved

Recently while playing BG:EE on the insane difficulty with SCS installed I have begun to wonder how much damage an enemy can inflict in one hit.

I have Yeslick in my party with 56 HP and -6 AC, wearing a helm, so he rarely gets hit, but when he does, it seems hard. While fighting against a flesh golem in a famous cave he became "near death" from one hit - 50 HP went away in one hit, only one.

It's maximum so far but I expect even more from bosses. I think enemy thieves due to their multipliers can inflict insane damage too but this is the different story. When you see a thief becoming invisible you prepare for backstabs but coming into a fight with maximum health (and not little) it's hard to expect to be one-hitted.

Let's share stories about insane critters by enemies who confront your parties in BG:EE.

It will be fun to hear these stories but I have a practical interest too, because I want to know what to expect - having a tank in every armor available doesn't decrease the amount of damage taken when an enemy has a successful attack roll, and even if he's fully cured it's not a guarantee he won't die from one hit. Of course, the insane level increases this damage but I just can't lower the difficulty I'm used to.

Ideas for a fun playthrough: Wild Mage or Jester?

Hi everyone,

I got the itch to play BG again, all the way to ToB, but I wanted something new. I'm tired of most NPCs by this point, so for BG1 I'll probably just keep Imoen around, or I might go just plain solo…

I'm now torn between Wild Mage and Jester. Wild Mage because I never played much with a wizard-type protagonist, and the Wild Mage seems very interesting. Jester because I like the versatility of the bard (having played a Blade extensively) and that Jester Song could create some interesting tactics.

What do you think? Any other ideas for a duet/solo game?

Thanks!

im not so updated, info-wise about most things bgee as many of the geeks in here

i've read a little in this forum now and then, regarding patches for bgee

as far as i understand, there hasnt been a new a new patch for bgee in about 6 months. i read about a month ago that a new big patch was on its way. i also read that the devs planned to release that patch as a "beta patch" first

can anybody give an update ? has that "beta patch" been released ? when is the "real" patch coming ?

Acting troupe at the Five Flagons turns on my party after portal opens

Something went wrong with this quest.

So the portal opens and monsters start to come out. All the members of the acting troupe have blue circles around them indicating they are friendly, but after killing a few of the monsters that come out of the portal one of the members of the acting troupe says something starting with "Now!" (or something like that) and then all the members of the acting troupe turn bad and start fighting my group. I ended up killing Haer'Dalis and Raelis Shai and whoever else was in the troupe.

I looked at some walk-throughs and they were very different. What happened?

Thanks.

Why the Hate for Enhanced Edition??

I am fairly new to the Baldur's Gate community and came across this game rather accidentally.
I was looking for other stuff on GoG when I saw Baldur's Gate was ridiculously highly rated compared to another game that I personally rated very highly (Avernum). So I bought BG 1 Vanilla and BG 2 Vanilla from GoG to try it out. I enjoyed them so much that I decided to buy BG EE from Steam when it was on sale, and then enjoyed that so much that I decided to pre-order BG 2 EE from Beamdog as a way of saying thanks to the guys who made a game I've already played for almost 100 hours, and likely hundreds more to come.
So I don't know much of the background story and history of the game, and I have been a bit puzzled/confused as to why on other BG-related forums, there appears to be quite a lot of hostility to Enhanced Edition and the entire concept of it, seemingly from hardcore fans of BG Vanilla, who otherwise seem pretty reasonable and knowledgeable about Baldur's Gate.

I just don't get it. If I don't like a game, or don't think it's value-for-money, I don't buy it. I don't bother hating a game I never play. I mean I played Diablo 3 for 500 hours last year until I Diablo'd myself out. Now I won't bother with the expansion cos I don't think Blizzard have done enough to keep the game interesting, but I don't suddenly HATE Diablo 3 or the upcoming expansion, I just won't buy it.

Am I missing something here?

Build my character for me... Please!

Hi All,
Since getting back into BG thanks to EE, I have only managed to complete the game once, as an Elf Archer. For whatever reason i find it nearly impossible to be 100% happy (even 80% would be nice) with a character, and my mind is always reeling with possibilities and what if's.

What i would like to do, is play a crowd sourced character, and if you could respond with one aspect of the character each, from Gender all the way down to name, until i have a full character. And obviously for abilities and spells (if applicable) take 1 each.
I don't care how wacky or weak or overpowered they end up.

Thanks in anticipation!

Max fighter level?

Pretty basic question, I know. But finishing my first game of EE kind of got put on hold for a new months, and I intend to finish it at least once before BG:EE 2.
My Berserker is level 7. What is the max level for a fighter in BG1? I'm wondering how thoroughly to seek out side quests in order to bulk up before the sequel.

I am already planning out my first party for bg2 now that we are 2 months away. My lineup will be

PC - Cleric
Minsc
Yoshimo
Korgan
Jan

I am thinking about slotting in a caster to round it out, or may leave it open until my play through.

He is "busy" so will not be in BG2:EE
At least not as a joinable NPC

He will be in the Black Pits 2 section but not in BG2EE's main game (SoA, ToB).
I don't believe anyone has said anything about where he'll be or what he's doing; just that he's busy during the events of BGII:EE.

After reading @Dee's comment above in the Ask Us Anything thread I felt that a thread about Baeloth's destiny in BG2EE was unavoidable so I decided to create one :)

Let's hear what you think .

I would like to know if you use or know of any
nicknames, pet names or titles for the NPCs in BG(2):EE

Or do you have new ideas on how the NPCs may
(or may not) like to be called?

Not sure where the best place to put this is, but since it's not a specific thing, I'm posting here for general purposes.

Thank you. All of you. You have brought back a game that I was afraid I'd never be able to play due to the technology differences, and I look forward to BGII.

I'd also like especially to thank Dee, whose response, and calm understanding, when I reported a problem that turned out to be most likely a Windows memory issue rather than an issue with the game, reminded me of why I vastly prefer to purchase things that are created and supported by people who love who love what they're doing. You can be sure I'll be eagerly waiting in line for the release of BGII ... and will be testing my computer for Windows problems BEFORE I report game problems this time.
