Baldur's Gate 3

Who here has played Black and White? Awesome game, right!? I loved the feeling of being a God and messing around with the world.

The reason I love Baldur's Gate so much is because it lets me become a God. I never, ever, allowed Bhaal's essence to go to waste, even with my Inquisitor I believed I could punish those who commit murder and be a just God of Death. I hated that ToB ends just when my character finally achieves their destiny!

Now, my idea for Baldur's Gate 3. You have ascended to the position of God of Death and Lord of Murder. Imagine a combination sim-city engine for managing worshipers, performing godly deeds, and all the juicy manipulation of mortal affairs that makes being a God so much fun. Meanwhile, there is also a 1st/3rd person element where your avatar can create their own divine plane, interact with other dieties, and progress the plot of the game.

In the Forgotten Realms universe, Cyric murders Mystra and causes the Spellplague. It makes no sense why your character from Baldur's Gate, having assumed the portfolio of God of Murder, wouldn't have caught wind of this. Depending on your choice to be a just or wicked diety, you influence Cyric's plans and change the overall path of the game.

Ultimately you can choose to use your divine essence to assit or attempt to prevent the Spellplague. Naturally canon says you fail, but it still would make for a cool game.

TL;DR: Black and White, combined with God of War, with a massive Plane-building engine that would allow you to design your own world.

question about original game's Watchers in Candlekeep (spoiler)

Trying to figure out here if BG:EE's Candlekeep Watchers' failure to protect the PC when chased by assassins is a bug, or if they were just never coded to actually protect innocents from hostile creatures. Could someone with the original vanilla game installed (via disks or GOG) please try running away from Shank or Carbos and see what the Watchers (armored guards with staves) do as the PC is being chased the grounds of Candlekeep (i.e., outdoors) around by them? I'm posting it here because not everyone who might be in a position to test this frequents Bug Reports and Feature Requests. Thanks!

(I'll move the thread where it belongs if someone can test this out.)

(I've found that at least one of the Chanters (!) will protect the PC, whereas the Watchers did not, lol--see here.)

Things that makes me wonder!?!?!?!

Have you ever wonder about the age of Charname???
it 20.. so far so good… the age of 20 can be okay as long as the charname isn’t an elf.
When the char name is an elf in Baldur’s gate then everything gets strange for me…
I mean a 20 years old elf??? that’s very strange that’s like a 5 year human baby would go out on adventure. And why doesn’t any elf in the game overact that an baby elf is adventuring in a very dangerous world… shouldn’t the elf char name be in some kind of elven kindergarten? And shouldn’t the elf followers in the game also overract on the Elf Charname? And in Baldur’s gate 2 it gets even more bizarre with the romance with Jaheira or Aerie. I mean isn’t that paedophilia??

Childhood:
Elves remain children for approximately 65 to 75 years. They grow slowly throughout these
years, achieving a height of 4 feet at most. It is during this stage of life that they learn what it
means to be an elf. They learn the basics of archery and swordplay. However, they are still
essentially children and continue with their childish ways until they reach adolescence.

Anyway whenever there is a Baal spawn that is a long living race that’s when it gets very bizarre in my eays and eyes.

* other things that makes me wonder WHYYY,,, is it whenever and often when someone is not white race gets killed in games and movies… in this case Dynaheir
And Yoshimo.

Dynaheir is Mulhurandi descended that comes from the country of rashemen. A Mulhurandi is a human that is Indian/Pakistani Black skinned human (not afro black human) with Egyptian background. When Baldur’s gate 2 start you get the information that the games only black follower human is killed by the white man (Edwin). At that time biowere didn’t even made amend for all black player in the world. They could give you a chance to resurrect her or make a new black human follower (maybe Dynaheir black sister or brother who are seeking revenge o something)

Yoshimo is Kozakurans escended and coming from the continents
Of Kara-Tur. Kozakurans in Abeir-Toril are the japan of our earth. That means the only far east Asian follower in the game that every far east Asian man or woman player could identify oneself with gets overkilled to oblivion and is unresurrectable story wise.

Now I do hope that overhoul things one or twice when introducing new Followers in the future… the best thing about the planet of Abeir-Toril that Baldur’s game plays at are a multinational ethnicity world that every player can identify oneself with…

If there is other things that is very wierd in the game please write it here... i might have missed it.

Ajantis without G of D.

If I intend to equip Minsc with the G of Dex, is there a power-game reason for keeping Ajantis after the Major Purchases in Beregost?
But then I also wonder about the flip-side... How much value does Minsc have without the Gantlets [unless I give him Imoen's Bracers of Archery].

My first-run Good Party choice is leaning towards: Charname~ CG-Halfelven, F/M [18[76]-18-17-16-12-10]
Imoen Dualled at Level 6
Branwen
Kivan-Coran w Algernon's Cloak
Minsc

The final spot is a toss-up between Khalid or Jaheira with Ogre Gantlets. I like the idea of Khalid's extra Weapons Proficiency and Hit Pts. But I have no idea how having neither Ajantis nor Jaheira for Party Leader purposes will impact play after Major Purchases in Beregost.

Of course I see the point of having a Stonewalled NPC-PC in front while moving in formation but I am suspecting that most scripted Reactions, such as Drienne, are pegged to Party Rep rather than Charisma of Party Leader....

At present, I am chalking up a few encounters Drzzt, Bassilus, Vampire Wolf and perhaps some more Winter Wolves while waiting for Ankheg Mail -- Khalid was on Mothballs in Nashkel for awhile [an undercover Wise-Guy assignment] so he needs some Catch-up XP, if Ajantis is going to pursue the fervent Pilgrimage thing that was revealed to him in the Temple of Helm....and Jaheira keeps on explaining more and more the difference between Cleric Spells and Druid Spells....

Can duke Eltan be killed?

$
0
0
In the conversation where duke Eltan requests investigation of the Iron Throne, CHARNAME asks him to pull back his mercenaries cause they are causing her a lot of trouble. Duke Eltan refuses since no-one knows that he is even hiring a criminal.

Now CHARNAME does not feel so much that she is a criminal, as that she is perhaps less law abiding than average and just regularly winds up in situations where random manslaughter happens to occur. She certainly does not agree with the duke refusing to retreat his mercenaries.

The inevitable consequence is that duke Eltan needs to die, hence he is charged by the gnome Bhaalspawn, a greedy fat dwarf, a sinister blackguard and a rather unusual gnome figure starts slinging bullets at him and for some inexplicable cause he starts screaming he rules all! Now the blackguard is able to damage the duke by poisoning his weapon, but that's about it. He resists all other damage and magic.

I personally would like to question the dukes immortality at this stage in the game, so I am wondering if someone has any hints/tips, if there are any?

Level Max with xp cap in BB:EE

$

I posted this over in the help for new players forum, but I think it deserves its own spot in General.

How do you guys like to multi-/dual-class?

The XP cap is 161000. From that (and our friends at www.playithardcore.com), we can surmise that max level for each class is...

Single:
Fighters and Barbarians - Level 8 (125000xp)
Paladins and Rangers - Level 8 (150000xp)
Thieves and Bards - Level 10 (160000xp)
Mages and Sorcerers - Level 9 (131000xp)
Clerics - Level 8 (110000xp)
Druids - Level 10 (125000xp)
Monks - Level 8 (110000xp)

Multi:
Fighter/Cleric - Level 7/7 (64000/55000xp)
Fighter/Thief - Level 7/7 (64000/40000)xp
Fighter/Mage - Level 7/7 (64000/60000xp)
Fighter/Druid - Level 7/8 (64000/60000xp)
Mage/Thief - Level 7/7 (60000/40000xp)
Cleric/Mage - Level 7/7 (55000/60000xp)
Cleric/Thief - Level 7/7 (55000/40000xp)
Cleric/Ranger - Level 7/6 (55000/36000xp)

Triple:
Fighter/Mage/Thief - Level 6/6/7 (32000/40000/40000xp)
Fighter/Mage/Cleric - Level 6/6/6 (32000/40000/27500xp)

THEREFORE A:

Fighter->Cleric can dual at level 3 and still hit max Cleric level
Cleric->Fighter can dual at level 6 and still hit max level Fighter
Fighter->Thief can dual at level 3 and hit level 9, one shy of its max
Thief->Fighter can dual at level 6 and still hit max level Fighter
Fighter->Mage can dual at level 2 and still hit max Mag level
Mage->Fighter can dual at level 6 and hit level 7 Fighter, one shy of its max
Fighter->Druid can dual ar level 2 and still hit max Druid level
Druid->Fighter can dual at level 7 and still hit max Fighter level
Thief->Mage can dual at level 3 and still hit max Mage level
Mage ->Thief can dual at level 7 and hit level 8 Thief
Mage->Cleric can dual at level 6 and hit level 8
Cleric->Mage can dual at level 7 and hit level 8 Mage
Cleric->Thief can dual at level 7 and still hit level 8
Thief->Cleric can also hit level 7/8
Ranger->Cleric can dual at level 6 and still hit level 8
Cleric->Ranger can 4 and hit the max Ranger level of 8

-Of all the Fighter-based multi and dual-classes, only F/M/T, F/M/C, and Ranger6->Cleric8 lose out on the extra .5 attack per round. R->C also lose out on one 1st level Ranger Spell

-A single, multi, or dual-classed Cleric will never be able to cast 5th circle spells. A single and dual-class Cleric only gain +1 4th circle spell over any multi-class combo. Fighter/Clerics gain an extra .5 attack over all other Clerics

-A Fighter->Thief can have a X4 backstab multiplier. A multi-class Fighter/Thief will only ever get a X3 but gain an extra .5 attack per round

-Only single classed Mages can gain 5th level spells. Dual and (single)multi-classed Mages lose out on one 3rd, 4th, and 5th level spell. Triple classes-Mages lose out on one 2nd, one 3rd, two 4th, and one 5th level spell compared to a single class

-Ranger/Clerics gain access to Druidic spells at all divine spell slots, however Cleric->Rangers and Ranger->Clerics only have access to regular Ranger divine spells

-Single Class Druids gain one 1st, one 2nd, one 4th, and two 5th level spell slots of over their multi and dual-class counterparts

Bug: The bottomless Chest in Beregost, Ankheg Shells for the Masses??

I don't know how to report this and being a complete Newbe where Computers are concerned will probably not have much info to pass on.

In the Safe House in Beregost I had X Ankheg Shells stored. More than my party could carry at one time to the Smithy. It seemed to have respawned some 6-7 Shells each time when I returned. Finally I cleaned out the Chest leaving 4 Shells on the floor before going to the Smithy.

Actually, I have not opened the Chest again to see whether that brought closure. Wound up with @10 more Shells than I could possibly have collected... Cheers!

Should Druids need Wooden Shields?

$

Hello.

I'm now making Druid Revision myself, which considers not only Class/Kit revisions but also adding several equipment for Druids.

I'll make some circlet, ioun stone, spear, quarterstaff, hide armor (including general +1/+2 one, and something like Polar Bear Hide Armor), scale armor (splint mail), and so on.

But the problem is the wooden shields... On one hand, from point of view of implementation, the best and simplest way is just allowing Druids using all of shields. On the other hand, according to the D&D rule, Druids should not be able to use metal shields.

Adding Wooden Shields are a little boring works and even this might be not good way for Druids when we consider about the magical shields... If I make a bunch of wooden shields, it means that I should add another pack of magical wooden shields, too.

What do you think of it?... Thank you in advance!

Rasaad and Viconia

Hi there,

the game has not given any indication of what Rasaad and Viconia think of each other, yet if this was "real" I would like to know if they would and could get along with each other.

Rasaad belongs to the part of his order that worships Selûne, whereas Viconia worships Shar.

Do followers of Selûne and Shar kill each other on sight in general? ( @LadyRhian)

And would they work in one party considering a high charismatic (21) leader?
And in specific: would Rasaad and Viconia get along despite their beliefs?

(These questions are for roleplaying purpose only)

1st play through – with custom 6 party – will I gain xp fast enough to max out before the end?

I chose to build a custom party from the get go because I had no idea how several classes would play for a main protagonist, and wanted to try them out all at once to get an idea what appealed to me more. I'm wondering is my xp getting split 6 ways, or is it the same across the board? I played this 1 time when it first came out forever ago, and don't remember how xp works in large party's. If it matters, I'm playing with a kensai, dragon disciple, cleric, assassin, illusionist, and archer.

Jester song...

So I was fooling with a jester yesterday trying to level her up to about level 2 in order to import her into another team. It was mostly just her and Imoen kiting whatever they ran across near the FAI and early maps and while kiting I would pop her song on.

The thing is that even when it worked - other than the pretty magical effects it did not seem to effect the battle - the confused character didn't stop chasing her things just continued as they did before the effect took place.

"Specialist" Mages

$

It really bothers me how specialist mages don't feel one bit specialized. Yesterday, I paid some attention to the spells they have when you pick them up on the levels you meet them at (as opposed to "intentionally dancing around the NPC you want until you reach level x so the NPC will already have spell y").

Edwin has Color Spray (Alteration, known) and Larloch's Minor Drain (Necromancy, memorized) and doesn't know a single Conjuration spell. Dynaheir had Larloch's too, and no Evocation spell. Xzar - what a surprise, Larloch's, but at least, it's his school. (I think Neera had Color Spray and that special Wild Mage spell.)

I wonder if there are any obvious downsides to "put all spells of a school in a specialist's spellbook" that I'm missing. If the so-called specialists already have exclusively spells unrelated to their school memorized, at least put the spells they *should* know in the spellbook. It's not like they could memorize spells above their level, so it makes no difference if Dynaheir knows Fireball at level 1; she can't cast it. It would just feel more specialized and maybe make it more appealing to try out the spells. The scrolls for the high level spells for each school can almost all be found in mid/late game or bought in Baldur's Gate. As far as I'm thinking, it would give no "overpowered" advantage to anyone, just make the pitiful excuses of "mage kits" feel more specialized. What am I overlooking or not considering (and should, before I write a feature request)?

Dialogue with charmed NPCs

Could somebody please confirm wether or not the following old vanilla BG feature exists in BG EE?

In vanilla BG, some hostile NPCs would have special, unique dialogue that would appear only after you charm the NPC in question and then initiate conversation with it. Some of this dialogue would even lead to unique journal entires you'd never get otherwise. With Tutu and Baldur's Gate2 engine, this feature sadly went missing. Has BGEE re-introduced this feature?

I have asked this two or three times in various threads over the last 4 months or so and replies have always been pretty contradictory! Would like to get this confirmed once and for all.

To clear any confusion,
I do not mean some sort of NPC selection-based audio soundbyte charmed enemies sometimes deliver.
I do not mean charmed NPC simply repeating any possible previous dialogue it did before attacking you(assassin on Friendly Arm stairs comes to mind)
I mean custom-made dialogue specificially ment to be spoken only when the NPC is charmed.

Sorry to go in such nauseating detail, I've noticed it is difficult to ask this without people getting confused about what I mean!

Random bonus question;
What is current status of BG II EE?:p

Here's how to add custom sound sets

$
0

Don't know if this has been addressed yet, but if so I'll post now and apologize later.

So after about a day of tinkering about with my game I finally figured out how to add custom sound sets.
After you've put your correctly named sound set in the sounds folder (Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766\lang\en_US\sounds (replace en_US with your language if not using English)) you need to edit a file called CHARSND.2da.

I would recommend using DLTCEP (just google it) to do this. In the editor press the 'Edit'-menu and select 'Tables'.
From that screen press 'Load Table' and look for CHARSND.

After you open it place the marker at the last column and then press the 'Add column'-button. Name the column the same as your soundset and under it you add the string references you want the sound to have.

Unless you want to actually add new ones for your soundset I would recommend changing them all to 30 which is completely blank. You must do this because keeping it to the default -1 will result in your sounds not being played.
And there you go!

If anything was unclear, just ask.

Example of the 2da-table after I added my custom sound set F_MONK1:

Favorite BG1 Chapter?

What's your favourite part of the game and why? I'll add in the two main TotSC quests since they're pretty much mini-adventures in their own right with cutscenes and all.

For me the game only gets more and more interesting the further you go get into it. I probably enjoy chapter 7 most of all, there are quite a lot of new dialogues and NPCs to meet in the city if you can avoid the Flaming Fist, as well as several pretty fun quests (infiltrating the Flaming Fist compound, the Assassins in the Undercellar, the Coronation Ceremony). You're at your most powerful and defeating your opponents with ease up until the big battle at the end leading to the awesome final cutscene. I like it a lot.

I also really enjoy Balduran's Ship for what it is. It's not too long and all of the Balduran stuff is pretty interesting, particularly combined with information (and items) gathered in BG city beforehand. The slightly bittersweet ending adds something too.

Reputation change on recruitment of characters

$

Concerning certain characters such as Viconia and Dorn, when you recruit them your reputation decreases. Should this not apply to all evil characters? Is Dorn for example inherently more evil than Edwin or Sarevok?

As far as I am aware no reputation increases are available for recruiting good characters? Do you think that should change?

Thoughts, commentary and opinions welcome!
