Timing my Nashkel hijinks

$

I'd be interested in some advice on how to time some party switching around Nashkel.

So far, my party (which aims to be good) is as follows:

CHARNAME, Blade, Level 5
Friend's NPC, Cleric 3/Illusionist 2
Jaheira (3/3, I think?)
Ajantis (3, almost 4)
Neera 4
Imoen 4?

Not at my computer now, so I'm guessing at some of the levels.

Our adventures so far have included all the Friendly Arm Inn's quests, all of Beregost's quests, a very unfortunate misunderstanding with Drizzt that left him badly, badly injured, and a jaunt over to Adoy's Enclave to assist Neera.

So now I'm ready to have fun down in the Nashkel area. Our levels are higher than I expected them to be at this point.

A few options:

1) At some point, I want to switch out Jaheira for Branwen. I'm half-tempted to let her explore the Nashkel Mines with me first, though: she's been so patient, it seems the sporting thing to do.

2) I'd like to do Minsc's quest for Dynaheir. Probably going to say no to Edwin's request to tag along (yes, I know he's quite the genius, he just doesn't fit in my party). Once we find Dynaheir, it's quite likely she may have a mishap when she goes off to explore for firewood on her own. I will likely switch out Neera for Minsc for the sake of his quest. Long-term, I'm debating which I keep in my party, Neera or Minsc. My blade's starting to handle himself quite nicely on the front line (what shiny scimitars he now has!), and combined with Ajantis and Branwen, that may be enough for the front line. Neera was feeling quite useless to me at level one, but now that she has more spells, she's worthwhile longer. Once I can get her proficient in a ranged weapon (darts, maybe?), she'll be quite a good fit on the team. But Minsc! And Boo! Quite fun. (And I really enjoy having Ajantis around... once I give him gauntlets of dex, he'll be even better.)

3) I will likely briefly pick up Raasad and Dorn, and I mean really briefly, just so I can add them in again when their quests are ready to go later on. (Do I park them in Kagain's Shop or the Friendly Arm, where I'm stashing my other NPCs?)

So the decisions I have to make are:

A) Do I tackle the Nashkel mines first? Or Minsc's quest?

B) Do I pick up Branwen before or after I go to the mines and/or Minsc's quest?

If anybody has any clever suggestions, I'd much appreciate it!

Some Sounds Are Far Too Loud?

I thought this might have been raised in the bug forum, but surprisingly to me it isn't, so I'd like to pose the question here - has anyone else experienced the following:

I find that certain sounds, most obviously and repetitively that of magic missile impacts and the healing spell noise, are much too loud, and make it very hard to adjust the volume to a level conducive to easy listening.

I find that that setting the "Sound Effects" volume slider to 10% makes the above two sounds roughly in line with what you'd expect when the "Voice" volume slider is set at 70% - however this makes all other of the other sound effects almost inaudible.

I don't think I should have to set most sounds to a ridiculously low level just so that magic missiles and healing spells don't blow out my eardrums.

Evil party without thief? (some spoilers)

I'd like to hear your opinion on my party composition for an evil run...

Since most of my runs were with good aligned party - just once I had an evil dwarven fighter - I wanted to try something different.
I would really like to try the new guys, and would generally like to prepare a pretty strong evil group.

So, my picks for my party are:

Kagain - main tank, heavy armor with shield and gauntlets of dexterity (and Rasaad belt preferably - but I don't know if I will be able to do his quest RP wise)
Dorn - second tank, two handed swords - had him in a party for just a moment in previous run, a must have
Viconia - healer and support
Baeloth - haven't tried him yet - a must have
Edwin - great character and I love to have magic heavy groups

So, that leaves me with CHARNAME, and it seams obvious that he needs to be a thief...
I decided on human SD, and plan on dualing him to mage at level 12 in BG2EE.

The problem is, once I started playing (So far I'm level 4 with Viconia and Kagain) I realized probably won't have enough skill points to invest in anything else than my hiding skills (in order to use SD kit fully).

So what do you think would be the best option:
- stick with this composition and try to beat the game pretty much without a thief?
- replace someone with Monty (but I really like above NPC composition...)?
- spend some points of my SD to find traps, and rely on potions and spells (but ASAIK Knock is available quite late)?

Any other ideas?

I thought I read before launch that kit balance changes were something they'd like to do postlaunch

The "Add" Journal Feature Rocks

I think it really adds to the RP element. There's a lot of things that don't get journal entries for my group (Imoen joining, Shar-Teel joining, Kagain giving up on his caravan search, etc.) that I love to add in with my own alignment twist. Wondering if anyone else is getting creative with such entries.

The 75 roll No-Reload/No Resurrection Challenge

Not sure how much interest there will be in this but I'm throwing it out there nonetheless!!!

RULES
- You must use a non-edited roll of 75
- You can re-roll as many times as you like
- You may not min/max any stats or edit any abilities at all
- You may not resurrect any party members
- Core rules
- Update your progress in this thread, whether it be death or success!
- Try to roleplay your character as much as possible :)
- Have fun

I'll start with Gwen, an Elven Priestess of Talos although I don't know how long she will live with her crippling low dexterity lol. She can barely equip herself and nearly takes her half an hour to do so. I took her first roll of 75, updates to come in the near future

Saving Throws with Magical Armor

How is this implemented in BG? I know it says in the manual about the same thing as in PnP, but I can't see my saving throws being modified with magical armor on. As in a +1 armor giving you +1 to STs against physical stuff.

I'm really dying to hear about bg2:ee news!

[HELP] BG:EE folder

I recently uninstalled BG:EE and also deleted the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition folder in Documents due to a bug with a mod.
After that, I installed everything again.
The problem is that there was no BG:EE folder in Documents this time...
At that point I tried to create it by myself with the backup files I kept (portraits, baldur.ini, sp and mp saves, character, screenshots).
Still, ShadowKeeper doesn't see any of my saves/chars/portraits and, what is worst, my baldur.ini doesn't influence my current game.
It's like the folder I created anew in Documents doesn't work at all.

Any ideas?

Can someone upload his folder? I'm not sure it would work, but I could try.

Hosting for voice packs and Have you downloaded this pack? I want it to come home :(

Hi there, I apologise if this is a topic in progress or in the wrong box but i did a quick search and got zip.

So anyway I encountered a total life destroying crisis of that just as I was about to start replaying BG I found that the voice packs I made for Tank Girl (from the deliciously hammy movie) and The Warden (from super jail) had vanished from all three of my computers, my portable hard drive, the raw files from Protools and my CD backups. Luckily my voice pack for Galen from Crusade was still floating about in a backup (and weirdly still in circulation on the internet, unaccredited to me, Bastards).

So firstly I was wondering if anyone had download a voice pack for Tank Girl or The Warden that I may have uploaded somewhere and totally forgot about (TBH I may re-do The Warden as with the original I lifted it from the show and it had the music and foley all over it which was dumb because also on the dvd is a story board without out all that crap but I have no wish to trawl through Tank Girl yet again unless I have to).

Secondly, I finished a voice pack for Robin from Robin of Sherwood almost a year ago that I know I didn't upload somewhere and would like to do so before it to vanishes off somewhere (I had intended to do a npc but I could never get Weidu to work for me), so does anyone know of somewhere that hosts this kind of stuff these days or has the cyber police outlawed fun entirely?

Hello!

Some new portraits came out of the approval system. Here's one by Jason Manley, artist to the stars.

Toot toot taroot

As mentioned earlier, all of the new Jason Manley portraits will be available for free in the BG:EE for PC and Mac, and will be a DLC item for iPad and Android to make up for the lower price.

Inquisitor vs. Wizard Slayer

Hi, I was just thinking, isn't an inquisitor actually a better wizard slayer than a "wizard slayer"?

True Sight, Dispel Magic at twice your level, immune to Charm and Hold, plus no unusual magic item restrictions? Seems like a perfect "wizard slayer" to me. If I were an evil mage, I think I'd fear an inquisitor before anything else.

I was just fantasizing about playing a character who hates and wishes to destroy those who would abuse magic to dominate others, plus to undo evil spells and curses perpetrated against the innocent. (Flesh to Stone, Polymorph Other, and the like). And who also had the powers of super strength and super speed - kind of like Superman vs. Mxyzptlk or something like that.

Is there any reason why the "wizard slayer" class could do this fantasy better than the inquisitor? Or, can you think of another class or multi-class that would do it better than either? Like maybe a fighter-mage? Thoughts, please?

I just noticed (after many years) Irenicus makes a sideshow in BG 1

I just killed the Spider "Queen" in the Cloakwood. It has been many years since I last played BG 1 so in this run I am reading all the dialogues, not just clicking them. The thing is that I asked her how she had become into that nasty form, and she told me she had been cursed by the Archmage Jon Irenicus to stay like that because she offended Jon Irenicus and his wife (¡¡¡).

Entering Black Pits in the main game per cheats :)

Hey, i just found out you could go there by using:
CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("OH9310")

You won't get the xp-cap and maybe there are some other 'errors', but i think it's a fun option to try the Black Pits with your BG-party and re-equip them :P. (You will lose aall your gold and equipment!)

As the areas are fully scripted it shouldn't be that hard to mod them in, although i don't have any experience with that yet. Maybe i will try it, though :)

Kitting NPC's, what would you change?

Edited this list after reading peoples suggestions / putting more thought into it all, wanted to thank the following people who posted: @Nifft @FrozenCells @KidCarnival @Darrylson @The_Shairs_Handbook @Fardragon, as well as the rest of you guys for making me rethink this.

I decided to make my list playable legal kits, etc. Since some suggestions were to have a kitted multi-class I streamlined to the kit as a solo build, so characters like Yeslick, Montarion and Coran in my list become solo classes. The exception to the rule was Khalid, whom was changed to a multi-class, but I think it makes him so much better. Here's my revised list.

Characters that shouldn't be changed:

Imoen - Thief (Since she does get dual classed/becomes an arch-mage)
Kagain - Fighter (He's more a mercenary type, in retrospect I agree with that)
And all the rest....

Warrior Classes:

Ajantis - Cavalier - (I think he fits this kind of mentality over an inquisitor but he could still serve Helm)
Kivan - Archer (It's really what he should be)
Khalid - Fighter/Mage (I actually think he'd be such a better character this way that I am going to try it out)
Minsc - Barbarian (I would say Berserker, but maybe this really does fit more)
Shar-Teel - Berserker (She's controlled and focus in her rage against men)
Yeslick - Dwarven Defender (Single Class, yes he stops being a cleric...but I think this fits him more story-wise)

Rogue Clases:

Garrick - Skald (For his quest to pen a great epic song)
Eldoth - Jester (Because as people have said, he thinks everyone is an idiot but him)
Montarion - Assassin (Single Classed, fits his demeanor / mission more, like he was sent to kill the harpers)
Safana - Swashbuckler (Didn't realize it until someone said it but it fits)
Skie - Shadowdancer (Dancing background, and makes her worth the effort to get)
Coran - Bounty Hunter (Single Classed, and it would keep him from being overpowered with +++ in Bows like he normally gets put back to +, or maybe two ++ if you still want to give him one extra than he should get...and it totally fits his story line / character)
Alora - Blade (Make her a clepto Bard who can fight a bit scrappy maybe? She's a pickpocket...not a great singer...and not really a murdering ruffian thief type either...plus it'd make her more interesting)

Clerics/Druids/Monks:

Rasaad - Sun Soul Monk (It really is what he describes himself to be!)
Faldorn - Avenger (Everyone here seems unanimous in this as fitting)

BG2 Thieves

Hello's.
Does anyone know if it possible to go through BG2 with just Imoen with disarming all traps and being able to unlock all locks. Preferably without having to rely heavily on potions and buffs. She's short of 100% in both lockpick and find traps which is quite annoying as in BG1 I would have them maxed out at 100% each before duelling.
I'm not really prepared to have Jan as that's another Mage/Thief in the party and somehow he doesn't feel...canon to be in my main party for the main part of the game.

Balance Question: "One Kit Ever"

$
0
0
I'm curious if the following proposal could be broken -- more overpowered than the options we have now.

Here's the proposal:
- Characters may select up to one kit ever.
- When you dual-class, if you don't have a kit, you may choose to gain one in your new class.
- If you have a kit when you dual-class, you may only dual into a base class.

For the purpose of this proposal, let's say Sorcerer counts as a Mage kit. So, you could have:
yes Fighter > Swashbuckler
yes Kensai > Mage
yes Fighter > Sorcerer
yes Fighter > Avenger Druid
yes Berserker > Druid

But you could not have:
no Kensai > Sorcerer
no Berserker > Avenger Druid

In a world where Kensai > Mage is a legal option, is it MORE broken to allow stuff like Fighter > Wild Mage?

Thanks, -- N

What are the six least powerful classes/kits in BGEE you could construct a team from?

I'm thinking about a low power group for a minimal reload run (MP/solo) and would like some opinions on possible class/kit choices for it. I'd probably want to include at least one from each of the main classes (warrior, preist, mage, thief).
