F/M vs F/M/T

Does F/M/T lose out to a F/M with the ToB 8 million xp cap? From looking at it the F/M/T wouldn't get to level 9 spells, and that seems like it would kind of weaken the class.

I guess my question is if I enjoy F/M/T and was looking at a class to play through the entire series (not a solo play) would I be better in the long run with a F/M, F/T or M/T? Or does F/M/T hold up in ToB?

Thanks.

Dorn in a good party?

I figured it make sense to make the most of the new content. So I was thinking of Neera and Dorn in the party (other chars:me, Imoen, Kivan, Branwen). Will this work through to the end of BG1 without being a nuisance?

When hasted, if dual-wielding, does the off-hand still only get one attack?

I was just wondering, When hasted, if dual-wielding, does the off-hand still only get one attack? i.e. If you had 2 attacks with the main hand and one with the off-hand normally, would you in fact get *5* attacks with the main hand and one with the off-hand when hasted? i.e. it's the main hand that benefits from the hasting of the off-hand.

I know that if you have a weapon in your off-hand that gives extra attacks (e.g. Kundane, Belm, Scarlet Ninja-To) then you actually get an extra attack with your main hand, so was thinking if might work the same way for haste - could anyone confirm? Thanks

How To Beat Drizzt?

$

Im planning to go for a 2 weapon style kensai and would love to use Drizzt's weapons. This thread is to discuss how to beat Drizzt in BG:EE to do this.

Now the old ways were to either use that pathfinder bug to draw him north and throw hundreds of arrows at him from the small island or to crowd him with monsters from a wand and again throw hundreds of arrows at him.

Im assuming the pathfinder bug won't work anymore, will there be wands of monster summoning as I didn't come across any in BG2?

Anyone have any other cool ways to take Drizzy down without cheating?

What will your first BG:EE character be?

I believe I will begin with a Lawful Good, Male, Aasimar, Paladin, and I'm thinking of using sword and shield as opposed to two-handed swords (I'll leave that to Minsc ;)

I also am unsure if Paladin sub-classes will be available? If so, Paladin of Lathander.

I was always fond of paladins and they seemed the perfect class to play through the BG saga :)

Worst Character to Complete Baldur's Gate

Anyone complete the game (through BG2, maybe not BG1) with a non-uber powerful character? Specifically, no skills above 15, and/or a cruddy class (e.g. Jester, or heck a Mage with a 3 Con and 3 Dex). Anyone?

I have been wondering this for a while now. What is a "berk"? I know that planar creatures often use this as some sort of insult towards people from the prime material plane but other than that I'm not sure.

The Music. I've been everywhere. Still no luck.

I just want to be able to listen to the music out of game. No fiddling with searching it on youtube, no buying an extra soundtrack CD. No jumping in game and reloading over and over until that one track I want to hear finally pops up.

Please.

====================================================
Just tell me how to play the music files located within the game that I bought.
====================================================

(Don't suggest VLC media player unless you've already tried it, and have found out that it'll play each individual .acm file just fine, but that if you queue up a bunch of the .acm files together it'll pause shortly between each 2-3 second segment. That's horrid to listen to. No, VLC will not play the .mus files.)

This same problem persists for all of the infinity engine games. The music is there in the files, but shame on you for trying to listen to them out of game.

Thanks. Neera.

Dear journal...

I don't know where to begin, but I need to tell you about yesterday's fiasco.
I can tell you that Neera the wild mage is dead. Crushed by a falling cow in fact, which is good for her or else I'd probably throw her from a cliff or into a wyvern's den.

So I got attacked by yet another assassin (I lost count already), outside the Nashkel Inn.
Neera started casting a spell, I'm not sure which she had planned, but probably not what actually happened.
At least I know what it feels to have the weight of an entire cow land at the top of my head, and so does every other person that *used* to live in Nashkel.

Even though I had probably broken most of the bones in my body, as I was lying there, what rushed through my mind was how screwed we all are, though at the time I didn't notice who in my party was still alive.
So many innocent people dying just can't go unpunished. The number of the bounty on my head rapidly going up also flashed before my eyes.

Anyway, Rasaad left the party in a split-second, I forgot what he said, but he probably wasn't going to fetch me some extra healing potions, not that he'd be able, Neera had earlier destroyed hundreds of our gold. I'm not sure how that's possible, I mean what kind of spell goes into gold pouches and makes the content disappear? Then again, what kind of spell makes cows fall from the sky? I shouldn't have skipped out on so many lessons back in Candlekeep.

Dorn was also still alive. I noticed that while he was towering over my broken body. I was surprised he seemed unharmed but he had just taken the blow far better than I had. Felt like several minutes passing, where he said nothing, at least I think he didn't, I might've had a severe concussion. All I heard was the sound of singing birds.

A crappy stat rolling monitoring utility I made.

***UPDATE***
Just saw that a new update has been released - It doesn't appear to have broken v1.0.2009 of the program, but please lemme know if you run into any issues and I'll see about getting another version up. v1.0.2009 is still available on http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/SirDimos
***END UPDATE***

I'm not gonna lie, this thing's not amazing - but I'm hoping some of you will find it useful. Basically it's a small program which you can run alongside BG:EE as you create your character and it will calculate your stat total as well as show you your strength percentage stat without having to put 18 points into strength to see it.

Here's a screenshot if it:
image

Here's a quick tutorial video to show you what it's like:
image

It's not meant to automate the process, but rather to help streamline the process for those who don't use Ctrl-8.

You can find the links for all of the different versions on my gamefront profile. I list them according to which BG:EE version they're compatible with.

http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/SirDimos

Make sure to read the readme, because this program is very fragile. I have only tested it on my computer and my wife's computer, and on top of that I didn't program it to be very robust - so if you don't follow the readme instructions pretty much to a T, it's probably gonna crash on you. Hell, it'll probably crash on a lot of you who DO follow it to a T :P

I don't promise I'll fix any issues you find, but if you find something either message me on here (Ravel) or over on Reddit (Sir_Dimos) and I'll maybe take a look at it.

I take no responsibility for the horrible things this may do to your computer, and use at your own risk.

Enjoy!

So my new evil character blade has an intelligence of 13... is this too low? I didn't think about if it would be important until now, will she get more spell slots per level the higher her int?

Please share your 'roleplaying concepts' for BG:1(EE) (hoping to compile them)

$

I'm trying to compile what I would call "roleplaying concepts" for playing BG1/BG:EE. By a 'roleplaying concept' I mean an idea or set of ideas that guides the game on the conceptual level. This could involve a vision of what various characters believe and how they behave (i.e., what motivates them). Or it could be a general framework or design for a particular type of party. This is the territory where our imagination and ingenuity as players fills in the gaps, above and beyond what the game gives us. It is also, often, a kind of sweet spot that we seek between our own imaginations and the mechanical framework of the game.

To provide an example of what I'm on about:

Wild Mage and "Chaos" NPC Party
Using the excellent Wild Mage Additions mod, I started a BGT game with a Wild Mage who had a kind of mad scientist (?) 'Chaos Theory' that fully embracing chaos in the Weave should ultimately be rewarded. It a belief that is in the "it's so crazy that... it... just... might.. work!" vein. He assembled a party of oddball NPCs that in some way strongly embodied principles of unpredictability: Minsc (addled as he is by head trauma), Xzar (clearly mad as a hatter), Tiax (also insane), Finch (a gnome librarian is such an unlikely adventurer--who knows what she may do), Safana (a rogue with no ethical compass whatsoever), Coran (who makes regular references to Timora and his love of risk-taking). And of course the PC cast Nahal's Reckless Dweomer and Chaos Shield liberally. It was also great fun to check out all the excellent spells in the Wild Mage Additions mod.

Now, this line of thinking could extend itself as well to no-reload styles, playing evil, custom parties of multiple PCs such as all-specialist mages, etc. The sky's the limit.

I know we have a number of threads on this. But I'm hoping to get them consolidated into one thread if possible. Looking forward to reading your creative approaches to the game's replayability, and thanking you in advance!

I hate companions.

Seriously. It feels like baby sitting. Even with scripts I can't play my main guy without one of them dying. Then I just end up dragging around a grey portrait and gear I can't sell.

Is there a downside to not having a full party other than difficulty?

Is there a list somewhere telling you what characters you will NEED in order to complete certain quest?

I'd seriously rather run around solo but I have read the game wasn't ment to be played that way and you will miss out on huge amount of content if you do.
