After an avalanche caused by frost giants kill Hrothgar and most of his expedition, the six adventurers are the only survivors left who can continue to Kuldahar and find out what evil plagues the small town in the mountainous regions of the Spine of the World.

"Homeland" of The Dark Elf Trilogy (By R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: December, 1990), (In-universe date of novel: begins 1297 DR on Drizzt's day of birth))
Story synopsis: Drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urden, first introduced in The Icewind Dale Trilogy (The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver and The Halfling's Gem), quickly became one of the fantasy genre’s standout characters. But Homeland first reveals the startling tale of how this one lone drow walked out of the shadowy depths of the Underdark, leaving behind a society of evil and a family who want him dead. It is here that the story of this amazing dark elf truly began.
Fun fact: Viconia DeVir from the Baldur's Gate games is related to the drow of House DeVir. Matron Mother Ginafae was her last surviving sister (Viconia states in Shadows of Amn that she used to have 14 sisters, and most of them died, some by her own hands), and Alton was her nephew. However, just because Viconia is related to Ginafae and Alton, don't expect her to be mentioned in the novel because she gets no mention. The truth is, Viconia was long gone from the Underdark decades before Drizzt was born and a few years before Alton was born. Alton DeVir was 55 years old in 1297 DR, which means Ginafae gave birth to him on 1242 DR, and Viconia was exiled from the Underdark sometime before 1242 DR, leaving Ginafae the only daughter of House DeVir's original Matron Mother to rebuild the family from the ground up having her own children.

He wishes to use this to rid himself of the people that are in his way, but he is not as clever as he thinks and Grand conjurer Torreb catches up to him before he is able to finish his plot.
"The Gilded Rune" (By Lisa Smedman) (Begins in 1306 DR, continues on and ends in 1480 DR)
Story synopsis: A plague that turns dwarves to stone...
A race of people, said to be forged from precious metal, face a devastating disease. Stoneplague. Once afflicted, the suffering is agony. Eyes become opaque and glassy, skin flakes off in scales, bones fuse into an immovable skeleton, and blood turns dark and muddy. Death comes when the heart stops beating and hardens into stone. And the plague is spreading.
A dwarven soul in human form...
Torrin Ironstar is a delver, an adventurer whose daft quest to find the Soulforge in Faerûn invites ridicule and scorn. But he's used to that. He's an outsider, a human who believes he's really a dwarf, right down to the silver hammers in his beard.
An impossible puzzle.
The other citizens in Eartheart shun him, suspicious of his true intentions. Little do they know, Torrin holds the key to the cure, if only he can figure it out in time. But time is running out.

Story synopsis: Ravendas, aka Lord Cutter, a former member of the Flaming Fist from Baldur's Gate, is sent on a mission by the Zhentarim to retrieve an ancient magical object, the Finger of Ckai-el-Ckaan.
"Pools of Darkness" both the game and novel (the game was developed by Strategic Simulations Inc., playable on Amiga, MS-DOS, Apple Macintosh, and NEC PC-9801) (Novel version is written by James M. Ward and Anne K. Brown) (Release date (game): 1991 (novel): February 1992)), (In-universe date of game and novel: Both set in 1350 DR))
Novel synopsis: The entire city of Phlan has vanished, ripped from the surface of Toril by dire creatures and magical forces. While the minions of the evil god Bane bicker over the spoils, the brave citizens of Phlan mount a stubborn defense. A ranger-thief named Ren seeks his missing friends, Shal and Tarl, spellcasters nonpareil. Ren must band together with a mysterious sorceress, Evaine, and her intrepid shapeshifter cat, as well as a couple of droll druids and a fearful knight who is absolutely, positively dead.
Fun fact: The novel version is more canon over the game version because the game version makes it clear that it is supposed to be set after "Curse Of The Azure Bonds" and "Secret Of The Silver Blades", being the final game of the Pool of Radiance series made in the late 80's to early 90's, and the game reveals that Bane has been manipulating Tyranthraxus and the evil forces that haunted the game version heroes in "Secret Of The Silver Blades", and player characters can be imported to these games from "Pool of Radiance", and canonically, the "Curse Of Azure Bonds" game should take place AFTER the "Azure Bonds" novel, and "Azure Bonds" is in 1357, seven years after Pools of Darkness. So since Alias hasn't been created yet, Tyranthraxus should not know about the Azure Bond curse around this time, which is why the game version can't be canon.

Story synopsis: Barely a teen and already guarding a secret that could jeopardize his young life, Maimun is marked for death. With the help of a mysterious stranger, the boy escapes his village and escapes out to sea, stowing away on the pirate hunting ship, Sea Sprite, where he comes across a most unlikely ally: the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. With a half-demon determined to destroy him, and a crew of sailors resentful of the trouble he's caused, Maimun must find the courage to prove his worth, both to his friends and to himself.
Fun fact: R.A. Salvatore and his son Geno worked on this novel together.

"The Crystal Shard" of The Icewind Dale Trilogy (Written by R.A. Salvatore) ((Release date: January 9th, 1987), (In-universe date of novel: Begins in 1351 DR))
Story synopsis: Akar Kessel, a weak-willed apprentice mage sets in motion events leading to the rediscovery of the magical device, the Crystal Shard. But is it merely an inanimate device... or is it capable of directing the defeat of Ten-Towns? Or have the barbarians already arranged for that themselves? Their brutal attack on the villages of Ten-Towns seals their fate, and that of the young barbarian Wulfgar. Left for dead, Wulfgar is rescued by the dwarf, Bruenor, in exchange for five years of service... and friendship. With the help of the dark elf, Drizzt, Bruenor reshapes Wulfgar into a warrior with both brawn and brains. But is Wulfgar strong enough to reunite the barbarian tribes? Can an unorthodox dwarf and renegade dark elf persuade the people of Ten-Towns to put aside their petty differences in time to stave off the forces of the crystal shard?
Fun fact: This is R.A. Salvatore's first published Forgotten Realms book back in the late 80's, and it is the book that introduced readers to Drizzt and his companions for the first time.
Fun fact #2: Originally Icewind Dale didn't exist in the Forgotten Realms, Salvatore made it so that he could get started writing The Crystal Shard. Originally he wanted Wulfgar to have a crossover with Douglas Niles' main characters from "Darkwalker on Moonshae", but WoTC told him they don't allow an author's character to have a crossover with another author's character. When WoTC gave Salvatore a prototype map of Faerun, he struggled trying to figure out where to set his first Forgotten Realms novel. He asked WoTC if he could set his story in Cormyr, but WoTC told him he couldn't because Ed Greenwood was writing a novel set there ("Cormyr: A Novel"), and Salvatore couldn't set his story in the Sword Coast either because WoTC had plans on setting some adventures there, so Salvatore started setting his sights further and further north, and when he asked WoTC are there any towns or cities north beyond the Spine of the World, WoTC didn't give him a clear answer because they hadn't confirmed that there is anything in the northern regions of Faerun yet, and so Salvatore jumped on their uncertainty and claimed "This is where Icewind Dale is! Now leave me alone!"
