Alternatives to Prism's Emerald quest? (Spoiler)

$

I'm back for another playthrough! I figure this is like my umpteenth time starting a new game, but no need to apologeize because I'm amongst like minded people... QUESTION: Is there an alternative to Prism's quest that involves selling the gems to someone that still complete's the quest? Or does the quest remain open until you actually turn them in to Oublek?

The most replays with Baldur's Gate

Most certain i can call Baldur's Gate games series of my life. No other game has been replayed by me this much. - did it about 14 times alredy and now after year i feel urge to start new campaign (well maybe Betrayal at Krondor can come quite close with 9 replays but still wont reach BG) For me no other game have such replay value and charm. So what about you guys. How many times did you beat BG series from start to end?

The perennial question

What to play?

I've finally managed to get a satisfactory set of mods installed on my iPad, which is the only feasible vehicle for playing games right now. And my own mods are in a pretty stable state, and I don't have time to do much more modding anyway. So, for the first time in at least three or four years, I'm actually going to play Baldur's Gate. :open_mouth:

But that raises the question: what profession should Charname be?? I've only played IWD lately, so I'm spoiled by its ability to create 6 characters. If I can only make one, what will it be?

This will necessarily be informed by my list of mods. Scales of Balance is installed, so every stat matters and rogues are a bit more capable offensively. And Might & Guile is installed, so fighters and thieves get fun feats to play with, and bards get all sorts of cool capabilities. Tome & Blood is installed, so single-class wizard specialists are actually pretty unique and powerful, and 1st-level spells are now infinite-cast cantrips. And Faiths & Powers is installed, so there are literal tons of priests and champions and mystics and druids and rangers to choose from.

Finally, most importantly, NPC_EE is installed, so the in-game NPCs can be more varied:
- Imoen is a multi thief/mage
- Jaheria is a single-class druid
- Khalid is a ranger... I'm thinking Mage Hunter would suit him (and his ultimate fate) pretty well
- Minsc is a plain fighter, he'll be a Berserker, natch
- Montaron is a single-class thief... Assassin, surely
- Xan is a fighter/mage... with that sword, I think he needs to be a Bladesinger
- Branwen is a multi fighter/cleric
- Safana will be a Swashbuckler
- Coran is a single-class thief, probably either a Hunter or a Sniper
- Skie can be a Jinxer, which is like a half-bard/half-thief/half-hexblade
- Alora is a cleric/thief... I know that sounds crazy but I'm thinking she will not so much be a real priest, as a 'Chauncey Gardiner' type - like, maybe there is really wisdom underlying her bubbly babbling, but not really, but maybe, but no seriously not, etc.

For mod NPCs, there are Finch (cleric), Vynd (assassin?), Indira (F/M), Valerie (sorcerer), Sirene (paladin), Isra (paladin) and Tenya (cleric).

There are really tons of NPCs in this game, every class is pretty well-represented. Maybe I should try something a bit more out there, like a Psypher (psionicist) or an elemental Mystic Warrior.

Anyway, I've spent so much time with Weidu and modding and completely ignoring these kinds of conversations... I'd appreciate input from all you people who have talked this through and played this through so many times. Cheers!

EDIT - I'll hopefully play through BG2 as well - I've installed a dummy mod so all of my mod kits should match up in kitlist.2da and kit.ids, so hopefully I should be able to import the character into BG2EE without messing that up. So high-level considerations and 2nd-game party makeup can also be taken into account.

Oh hello!

One of the real hidden gems of the BG series is the sheer amount of detail hidden in the ambient audio.
The people of The Sword Coast are a talkative bunch and, on your travels through its towns and cities, you're liable to hear some very bizarre comments if you listen closely.
I've put together a list of dialogues I've heard in the ambient audio across the various maps of BG1. Of course, these may not be exact quotes but it's my best guess at what I think I can hear among the bustle of general sound effects.

Do feel free to share any other comments you might have heard in your runs, and maybe I'll make a list for BG2 if I ever make it there :)

If you'd like to write an article or draw art for an article, email the.wild.surge@gmail.com or send me or @deltago a message. :)

The sorts of articles we're looking for are book reviews, mod reviews, game reviews, game first impressions, character overviews, short stories or vignettes, poems, custom D&D rules (e.g., for BG, IWD, or pen and paper), and similar things. If you'd like to draw art for articles (e.g., like the shields in the 5e dwarven defender rules article) or for stories, give us a shout.

Our primary focus are IE games, then other D&D games and books, then other RPGs, then other genres. For every issue, we're aiming to have a game or book review, a mod review, a poem, and Corpse's Corner. Most articles are 500 to 3000 words. We post theme issues, where most articles match the issue's theme.

For stories, we're undecided on including fan fiction (e.g., stories of your BG characters). For now, we're just interested in stories written in an original story universe. Orcs and elves are fine... just don't use, say, Forgotten Realms gods or cities or characters. Writers retain the rights to re-publish their works in other publications and media.

If you have any general questions about contributing, feel free to ask here. If you have a specific article you want to write, send a message to me or @deltago.

The Baldur's Gate Wiki is in a poor state.

Heya, everyone!

Since yesterday (or so ... my sleeping rythmn is way off) I have been trying to fill some gaps and correct errors in the Baldur's Gate Wiki. Well, the Wiki at this point has more holes than a swiss cheese and even though I do love me some swiss cheese, there is only so many holes without ... you get my point.

I know that a lot of folks here on the forums have an astoundingly detailed knowledge on all things BG, so it would be really awesome if you could take all that knowledge and put it over into the wiki.
Check for errors in old articles, make new ones, fill red links, expand stubs.
I know we can turn the wiki into a useful resource for the fandom again.

Also, speaking of which, the Icewind Dale Wiki is in an even worse state ...

Some custom portraits

These are just some portraits I made for myself for Pillars of Eternity. Luckily, the large portraits in that game use the same ratio(and I believe even the exact same size) as the large portraits for Baldur's Gate. Sharing's caring

I'm sure I've got more floating around, but my computer isn't exactly.... "organized". Some of these are leftovers from a couple reformats ago. I know I've got some that are least 10 years old on a flashdrive somewhere in the house lol

BGEE EET Custom Portraits Install Location MacOS?

I have setup my install with EET, but having trouble figuring out where to install custom portraits? When creating a new character I get an error saying portraits need to be installed in Documents/Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition/Portraits. I tried that, I tried Documents/Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition Trilogy/Portraits, and I tried in the Portraits folder within the game folder. I get the error message no matter where I try.

Any ideas?

Rogue Rebalancing Mod & Assassins

With the RR mod Assassins start at x3 backstab multiplier and achieve x7 by level 17 but at the same time the innate +1 to hit & damage has been removed. So with that being said what would be the best race for an Assassin using this mod?

Discussion of BG2EE Gameplay Ini Settings

Hi All,

I was recently browsing through the BG2:EE ini, and noticed quite a few settings which seemed quite interesting, but did a quick search and couldn't find what they do. I have listed some of them below, I appreciate that a couple of them may be quite obvious, but does anyone have any ideas?

'Game Options', 'Terrain Hugging', '0'

'Game Options', 'HP Over Head', '0'

Game Options', 'Extra Feedback', '0' [I remember in the original BG2 this option added a lot of extra description)

Game Options', 'All Learn Spell Info', '0',

'Multiplayer', 'Default Permissions', '00000001', (can this option be used to changed the default permissions for new players joining a multiplayer game?)

'Multiplayer', 'Pausing Dialog', '0', (I understand that this prevents some dialogues from pausing the game, e.g. with shopkeepers so that players can shop at the same time)

'Game Options', 'Render Actions', '0',

'Multiplayer', 'Disable Banters', '1', (I understand that this enables NPCs to conduct banters between themselves, in my multiplayer games NPCs regularly chat to Charname so it can't be that)

'Game Options', 'Render Travel Regions', '0',

'Mage Spells', 'SPWI605', '0' (no idea what this does)
)
