Hi, I have a question in the game is an option where you can turn on English audio but polish subtitles or any other?

Strange Messages on Spell Scrolls

I'm presuming this is down to SCS, but depending on where you pick them up, suddenly getting an odd message on a spell scroll really creeps me out.

I've just killed the lich for Edwin's Nether Scroll. The lich dropped an Improved Mantle Spell Scroll. This is what is written.

"Accidently, so do I. Ha! No rest for the wicked eh? So....I will not tarry getting to the point"

The combination of an ancient lich, in the crypts, then the ramblings of a madman, is really disturbing.
It feels like the game is haunted (going to turn it off very quietly and creep away)

Never seen this mentioned elsewhere, I've had a few where's there's no writing just the restrictions on who can use the scroll.

If you have about 1.5 hour of free time, listen to the recent Fragments of Silicon podcast with Phillip Daigle on Twitch. Phillip talks about his introduction into programming and Beamdog titles.

This podcast is simply a gem.

There's a talk about future projects there (starting at about 55:00), including problems with finding the source code for IWD2:EE, a stuggle to start a new D&D game, and definitely moving to Unreal 4.

Mages Gone Wild

Playing as a wild mage we know all sorts of weird stuff can happen. Just now I decided to fire off a Wish spell in hopes of restoring my spells without napping and it triggered with an area effect, giving every party member their own private Djinni, and even little Cespenar who was hanging out with the group got asked for a wish by a Djinni. This apparently resulted in that I, for a very brief moment got to play as Cespenar. Unfortunately his wisdom seemed appropriate for his character so his options were all negative.

Anyone else had some funny effect from a wild surge?

Unexpected Plot Twists and Other Things (Hypothetical BG3)

A conversation with my father got me thinking about an interesting topic, what kind of plot would we see in Baldur's Gate 3?

My father came up with kind of a joke, but it would be very unexpected if it happened: "I'm waiting for the sequel to Baldur's Gate where Minsc turns out to be evil and the smartest person on the planet"

So two topics
1. Serious Plot Ideas for BG3
2. Building onto this Marvel Comics-Esque Minsc is evil twist.

This could be fun :)

Godhood for everyone~

I don't know about you guys, but becoming the God of Murder for the xyz-th time is reaaally boring. So this kind of got me thinking, tinkering and then my headcanon workshop was running again at full speed: "What kind of deity would *I* become when ascending after the Throne of Bhaal?"

This thread is just for giggles. So feel free to let your silly imaginations roam around. ;)

In my case, it would probably be something like this:

Kamigoroshi
(The Thermae Dweller, Hot Springs Digger, He Who Sleeps In The Tub)
Lesser Power of the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Steam, True Neutral

PORTFOLIO: Baths, hot springs, saunas, purification through cleansing
ALIASES: None
DOMAIN NAME: Quasi-Elemental Plane of Steam / The Floating Rubber Duck
SUPERIOR: Istishia
ALIES: Leira, Eldath, Istishia
FOES: Ilmater, Loviatar, Talona
SYMBOL: A bathtub, or geyser.
HOLY ANIMAL: Geyser Dragon
WOR. ALIGN.: Any

The battle between the numerous spawns of Bhaal had left him utterly exhausted. Much blood, dirt and sweat was still clinging on his body. However, to his dismay the civilization level of Faerûn had yet to reach the knowledge of creating public bathing facilities. Thus, the first thing Kamigoroshi (Kah-MEE-gho-RO-shee) did after ascending to godhood was planewalking to the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Steam and digging up a giant and steaming hot spring. He then soaked in the pleasant water for untold years. By the time Kamigoroshi realized it, Bhaal's portfolio of "Murder" has been washed away and was replaced with "Baths".

Dogma:
At its heart, the Kamigoroshian faith believes that every city, town, settlement and household should have baths and cold drinks. Hot water and steam will wash away stress, ease diseases, allay pain, and purifies the mind. All sects of the Kamigoroshian faith tend to avoid personal combat and direct confrontations in public bathing areas. That is not to say that the faith ignores ill-mannered events going on around them in such facilities. But rather that they work quietly along less-obvious paths to accomplish their goals (such as hardening the comfy chairs of non-believers). Members of the faith are also to follow the path of rinsing their bodies from filth before entering the bathing water.

Day-to-Day Activities:
Keeping bathrooms pure and clean is one major goal of the church, and this responsible long-term goal has made the Kamigoroshians one of the more easily accepted elemental "cults" to visit. Other activities include of creating bathing toys, mixing shampoo, harvesting bathing salt and the invention of waterproof books.

Holy Days / Important Ceremonies:
Each moring for a follower of the Thermae Dweller begins with a quiet, hot bath and tea. Each night ends the same way. There are no fixed holy days within the Kamigoroshian faith, however the church sponsors various bathing festivals in Summer and sauna festivals in Winter.

Priestly Vestments:
Priests of Kamigoroshi dress in turquise-and-violet bathrobes with hot springs symbol decorations for ceremonial occasions.

Adventuring Garb:
Adventuring priests are free to wear whatever clothes they deem appropiate. Though they have at least one swimsuit ready in their backpack for taking a quick dip on the go.

The allure of evil...

I often find myself curious as to why so many players enjoy playing evilly aligned characters. I have tried this myself, thinking that I must be missing out on the fun, but I never get far.

I am heavily into role-playing my characters. I always try to let them make their own decisions. But when it comes to an evil character, my own sense of right and wrong always gets in the way.

Arguing with your character is not role-playing. :)

“What do you mean you’d rather keep that wedding ring for the few gold that it might bring you. Give it back to the poor woman. Perhaps it will help ease her suffering as she deals with the knowledge that her husband is truly dead.”

“Put that sword down! Yes I know that Noober is irritating. But he is just lonely. If you put up with his prattle a bit longer, he will go away.”

“You want to help Dorn do what at the wedding??”

Now I don’t mean to say that my characters are all law abiding do-gooders. Far from it. They often have their own motivations for doing all manner of inappropriate or evil acts. But truly embracing a consistently evil character is different.

I’d love to hear from other players about what motivates them to choose this type of character. Perhaps it will help motivate me to, “embrace the dark side,” in one of my own play-throughs. There is after all content that I never get to experience due to my limiting myself to certain alignments. :)

Help finding specific portrait

Could anyone let me know where I can find a larger size of the attached portrait, please? The original was from a portrait pack I downloaded a few years ago that contained a folder for each specific race but unfortunately I accidentally saved a smaller image over it when I was resizing it and I can't find where I downloaded it from despite spending the last 4 hours (yes, 4 hours!) browsing portrait websites, pinterest etc.

If women are easily the counterparts etc., then where are they?

Let me start with an aside: I found this wonderful disclaimer in the AD&D 2nd edition Player's Handbook.

"A Note About Pronouns

The male pronoun (he, him, his) is used exclusively throughout the second edition of the AD&D game rules. We hope this won't be construed by anyone to be an attempt to exclude females from the game or imply their exclusion. Centuries of use have neutered the male pronoun. In written material it is clear, concise, and familiar. Nothing else is."

This is so elegant and yet firm, I think I'm going to include it with all my writing. But otherwise the COMPUTER adaptations of the AD&D game that we have here really don't have nearly as many women NPC as their political correctness hastens them to assure. The cast of party NPC in Baldur's Gate is balanced rather well, at least numerically. A few "strong females" like Shar-Teel and Dynaheir mesh with others who don't make a business of proclaiming themselves "strong." Outside, though, it's by and large a men's world. For many creatures only the male version is present at all, and women are very much a second sex.

Now it's true that even in the paper-and-pencil game monsters the party encounters are often male and that females and offspring are contained in the "Habitat/Society" section (in the style of "There will be 1d10 females, who fight as bugbears, and 1d6 children, who fight as goblins." What more is there to say?) The fantasy world has not yet been emancipated. The women mostly stay at home and the men mostly go out earning money. As inconsistent as fantasy settings are on many levels, they are at least traditional in this conservatism, and it keeps them coherent. So I'm not calling for a revolutionary sex-change for Eltan and Belt into Eltana and Beltie. In any event, you can't split Five Dukes half-way, even if you split some completely. But what I, for one, would like to see is modders making a point of creating female characters - not as an afterthought, but as a priority. If you are going to make a character, think first of making him a her. There are already lots of men to go around. With a woman, you are going to have to adjust the dynamics of your mod, consciously or not, because sex is more than cosmetics. And we need this refreshing change of angle. With a mod full of dudes, they will more likely than not end up doing the dude thing, which in the games comes down to being rude and killing things. Just look at Sarevok and his all-boys gang: Tazok, Angelo... Don't get me wrong: I appreciate the dude thing, but I've done quite enough of it to last me.

So let's be affirmative action about this and make some - no, lots - of women. More than half. If you only plan on making three NPC, make them all women. And not "amazons." Just women. Not all adventurers, either. Use the "Female commoner" avatar and the "Girl" avatar. Then see how different the mod comes out.

The Complete FR Novel, Comic and Game Timeline Part 1

I'm pretty bored today, so I've decided to make a chronological list of all the FR novels, comics and games and list what year they take place in the Forgotten Realms universe, since I am collecting the audiobooks of the novels and playing the games, and I also want to educate you all on the chronology of the Forgotten Realms, which novel, comic or game takes place in what year, who wrote that novel/comic/game and who developed them and whatnot. Some stories extend on for years, decades or centuries before they end, and some stories are one of many short stories in one book. Since the list will be long, I'll start from the very beginning and end with the year the Baldur's Gate and Siege of Dragonspear take place in. Part 2 will continue onward later.

Maggin (1358 DR) At the end of "Liches In Love: Undead Love", the comic book tells you that Jasmine's fate won't be determined in the next issue of the Forgotten Realms comic book series, but instead, it will be revealed in the first issue of the "TSR Worlds" comic book series, "Jammers", which is what I have listed down below.

TSR Worlds comic book series ("Jammers" Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) (Written by Barbara Kesel, Jim Lowder, Kate Novak-Grubb and Dan Mishkin, penciled by Michael Collins, Rags Morales, Dave Hoover and Dan Reed, inked by Randy Elliott Paul Abrams, Rags Morales, and Alan Kupperberg, lettered by Steve Haynie, colored by Eric Kachelhofer, edited by Elliot S. Maggin) (Forgotten Realms year 1358 DR) The Spelljammer main characters visit the main characters of the Advanced D&D comic books in Waterdeep on Chapter 3. Chapter 4 is the chapter that ties up the loose end of "Liches In Love: Undead Love". The main characters of this comic book are known as Spelljammers, people who ride spaceships that can travel through portals and wormholes in space to reach planets of different D&D campaign settings like Krynn of the Dragonlance campaign setting and Toril of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

Forgotten Realms comic book series ("Waterdhavian Nights", "Fallen Idols Part 1: Possessions, Part 2: Mad Gods And Paladins, Part 3: Divine Rights", and "On Earth As It Is In Heaven") (Written by Jeff Grubb, pencils by Rags Morales, Tom Raney and Dave Simons, inks by Dave Simons, Bob Downs, Jerry Acerno and Mickey Ritter, colors by Gene D'Angelo, letters by Tim Harkins, edited by Elliot S. Maggin and Kim Yale) (1358 DR)

"Shadows of Doom" of the Shadows of the Avatar Trilogy (By Ed Greenwood) (1358 DR)

"Advanced D&D" comic book series "Phases of the Moon Part 1, 2, 3 and 4" (Written by Dan Mishkin, penciled by Jan Duursema and Tom Mandrake, inked by Rick Magyar, colored by Matt Webb, edited by Elliot S. Maggin and Kim Yale) (1358 DR)

"Cloak of Shadows" of the Shadows of the Avatar Trilogy (By Ed Greenwood) (1358 DR)

Avatar series novels "Shadowdale", "Tantras", and "Waterdeep" (Written by Richard Awlinson) (1358 DR)

What was your worst defeat? (Survey #3)

$

0

Tell us the story of your worst failure, and how you dealt with it.

Not every great story is a story of success. We want to know about the awful desperate moment when you realized you were going to fail. It could be a story moment, or simply a combat encounter that got out of hand. Did you reload, or carry on with gritted teeth?

Why are we asking this question?

Throughout the month of December we’ll be asking a lot of questions about your experience with these games. We’ll post a new thread when there’s a new question to answer, and we’ll be reading (though not necessarily commenting on) your responses and discussion.

We're looking for things about Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition that grabbed you, that made you sit up on the edge of your seat, that made you think "Yes, this, give me more of this!"

Me personally, I’m hoping it will make for some interesting holiday reading. But you also never know who might be reading along, looking for ideas…

Which of the following BG1 NPCs would you want me to make a BG2 mod for

I AM MAKING NO PROMISES. However, college semester is almost over, I've finished playing SoD and I've put in more work in my NPC mod this week than I had for the rest of the year. The writing spirit has returned to me so I'm planning for future mods after I complete Sirene for BG2. While I'd rather create an entirely new character, too many of my original character concepts get shelved due to the effort spent in brainstorming personalities, subplots, getting portraits, etc. that I've resolved for something simpler. I am creating a poll right now to see which of the following is most wanted among the community.

NPC Candidates

Alora
Garrick
Kagain
Safana
Shar-Teel

NPCs with functional mods with full content (banters, etc.) aka the following: Coran, Xan, Branwen, Kivan, Tiax, Skie (yes, there was one by Lava DelVortel, unfortunately its continuity is now shafted by SoD), Quayle (again I believe there is one), Yeslick and Ajantis are out.

NPCs significantly integrated into the BG2 plot aka Dynaheir, Khalid and Faldorn are also out. In the case of the first two, Minsc and Jaheira's continuity depends on them being dead. In Faldorn's case, I do not want to mess with the Trademeet plot. Safana is an EXCEPTION due to how minor her sub-plot is (and it was supposedly made as a joke to begin with)

Xzar and Montaron are out. They're minor enough to make into joinable NPCs but crazies, psychos and sociopaths are not my thing. Even if I didn't find them boring, I don't think I can do justice to the people who like them. Sorry.

Eldoth is also out. Because screw Eldoth.

NPC Candidates: My Priority

Shar-Teel
Safana
Alora
Garrick
Kagain

What this means is that unless there's an overwhelming amount of desire for a Kagain mod (let's say 70% of votes) I probably won't do it. That being said, I'm not ruling anything out. Maybe there really are a bunch of dwarf-philes (not a real word) out there aside from Grum (sorry for calling you out if you see this).

Romances

Yes... if I don't bring this up someone else most assuredly will. I'm not much of a romance writer (Sirene's romance path is proving to be hell to write) but I know some people would love them. I'll try my best, if it's what people really want.

Shar-Teel romance is guaranteed. Safana is likely. Alora is also quite likely (because all you shorty lovers have gone deprived of love for too long). Garrick is a maybe. Kagain is a straight no.

-----

What do you guys think? Who would you like for me to continue the tale for? Again, I make no promises. It will likely be a long time before I can deliver, if ever. But all I want is an opinion.

Oh, and this is for the mods: I've posted in General Discussions because it seems to get the most traffic. This might be against the rules, so feel free to move it. I would have named "Which of the following do you want in BG2" but then it wouldn't cover the main gist of the topic. My apologies in advance.

By the way, my predictions for order of popularity: Alora, Kagain, Shar-Teel, Safana, Garrick. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Hey´all!

I had a hunch about this while playing the quest, but what dawned to me way later was
some weird realization that I´ve done wrong helping a convict on his people-to-X list.

What about you, have you done this at all?

I have to say...I love the iPad versions

I bought BGEE, BG2EE and PST earlier this week for the iPad. I have some trepidation as I never expected them to be as good as the PC versions, but they are, because they are a slightly different experience.

PRO:

The hint buttons to highlight important items/people are really useful and unlike the PC version can stay on all the time.
The BG games are still on version 1.3 rather than 2, which I find a good thing in some ways (as 2 still has a few teething issues IMHO).
The interface buttons behave differently, making it harder to play with pausing, which is actually quite refreshing.

CONS:

If you don't like version 1.3 then there may be a problem.
Unlike the PC versions, the additional portraits/soundsets and the NPCs Hexxat, Dorn and Neera are only available as additional purchases (booooo). But then again it allows me to concentrate on the core characters, which I like, and I think you do get Rasaad for free, and that's nice. As a result I probably won't buy the add-ons because I don't feel I need to.
No SoD I don't think (as there's no version 2).
I can't see how you can mod or use cheat codes in these apps.

All in all I'm really enjoying them at the moment :) Well done Overhaul for introducing these versions :)

PS At the time of writing, IWDEE, BGEE, and BG2EE have been removed from the AppStore where I am - is this permanent? I hope they come back, because then I'll buy IWDEE too :)

Example:

Fatso the Gargantuan (This wouldn't fit, so I put Fatso the Vast)
Chaotic Good
Gnome
Wizard Slayer

Fatso: Your days are numbered, Irenicus. So says the mighty axe of Fatso the Gargantuan

Irenicus: Who?

Fatso: Me, you blasted idiot!

Irenicus: (facepalms) Whose Idea was it to invite this guy?

CHARNAME: (raises hand slowly)

Irenicus: See CHARNAME, this is why we can't have nice things.

Fatso: Maybe we should just skip the small talk, and get right to the killin'

Irenicus: And now you're stealing lines from the first game? OK, "DRASUS"

CHARNAME: Uhh...can we fight now?

Irenicus: Son of a....*yes*!

SCS enemy builds and behaviour - just what is SCS supposed to change?

$

Hello everyone, some months ago after reading some threads here I worked up the courage to try SCS. I tested it in BG1 and BG2 (EE versions) simultaneously. I did a really noob set up: I only installed improved general AI and improved calls for help. At first I was really enjoying it, but then I noticed a couple of unsettling things.

In my BG1 game, I discovered that SCS had changed Greywolf into a dual-wielder. The broad reading I'd done until then on SCS (including the readme and forums) seemed to indicate that the mod only makes enemies smarter, and that it doesn't change the enemies per se. Can anyone enlighten me on the real story on what and/or how SCS changes enemies? In my BG2 game I discovered the statues on level 1 of Watcher's Keep (I went there early) were much tougher. I didn't necessarily mind these changes, but I was wondering what the mechanics are behind it so I can anticipate other surprises that might get thrown at me later.

Now, in my BG2 game I discovered something I really didn't like. In the Planar Prison, when I made it to the third and fourth chambers to the east, the entire level attacked me at once. The Yuan-ti, the wyvern, the Master of Thralls, the Warden and the pack of thralls in the north made their way down and had at me. While it was a thrilling battle to say the least, it bothered me that SCS had changed the level so much. In the original game it's written so that you're supposed to experience each chamber as a series of individual encounters, not a big pile-on. Has anyone else experienced this in the Planar Prison, and does this phenomenon occur in other quests? I uninstalled SCS after this happened, but months later I'm getting curious about trying it again.

Thanks in advance for any insights. I apologize if this info is already available somewhere, but my initial searches didn't find anything addressing these specific issues.

How good is a 25 strength Char?

$

Hello guys,

How do you play your fighters? Obviously fighters whom cannot reach 25 strenght with DUHM.
Do you prefer max APR or max strength? or Both?

Pally are very free to go with DUHM and all the weapons you want. Il you play with Belm off hand, you can reach 8 APR and if you don't mind 8 APR you can just take Foebane and Defendeur for more fun and 7 APR.

For F/C ok you reach 25 strenght but FoA doesn't work with Improuv Haste and you don't need Crom F so much ...

With F/M multi, not dual, if you want max APR and max strenght you are pretty stuck with all the good stuff for your Char: Belm, Crom, gauntlet of spe and you reach 9 APR ...

Swash/F dual, reach 10 ARP easy but do you want 25 strenght with Crom so you cannot play with Foebane?

Ok this is maybe uncorrect, feel free to correct, but my real question is do you always play 25 strenght fighters and how? max APR is better than max strenght?

Thanks

EET full playthrough with annotations and screenshots, any interest?

What will it be?
A mixture or journal and walkthrough for a complete trilogy playthrough with EET, i.e. with one protagonist and his continuous companions from Candlekeep to ToB. The game will include as many EET-compatible mods as are reasonable (based on experience I made with them until now).
I will annotate the game contents with (in spoiler tags) remarks, variations, formerly made experience etc. which may be helpful for other players.
he party choice will include mod added NPCs as well, since I want to try some new ones and I feel that enough documentation exists for most of the vanilla cast anyway. Why someone is chosen or dismissed will be explained in the annotations.
The pits will not be part of it.
It MAY have screenshots of interesting new scenes/areas/NPCs.
It will as far as possible avoid personal judgement about contents, game rules, quality or such.
It will not be complete in the way that it will just document one single possible way of moving through the trilogy (out of how many thousands?).

Who provides it?
A veteran player of mods, having played the old trilogy (i.e. BGT) for many times and with nearly every mod available.
Switched to EE as soon as EET made it possible to play the trilogy as one. Been through EET three times already and now plan to do it with a maximum modded game.
At this moment it is my personal perception that EE/EET development has reached a certain point of maturity and that a major new addon (e.g. IWD-in-EET) is not available in the near future - so a good time to consider my current install as stable for some significant period.

Why a poll?
Obviously this would be a very large and long running project. Before I would start it, I thus ask for feedback to see if there is even some interest in such a thing. Also hear from administrators whether such a thing is even feasible for this forum - after all I will talk about a completely modded game, not primarily about their product.

To illustrate the scope that would be covered, I attach the lists of mods I have installed

Deities in-game BG 1&2 EE and their purpose

Does anyone wish that these had more of an impact in game? For example Neverwinter online you can pick a deity and it gives you some sort of bonus (I think?) An example of these could be picking Tymora and be under the 'luck' spell permanently.

Even more interactions and significance in game I know the priest of Cyric in the docks but more quests and indepth around the religions. The churches content could be even expanded upon. Picking alignment in character creation is something but it would be cool if for example you made a rogue and picked evil then could select The mask or maybe even Lloth of you were an elf. As a result gaining some allegiance with the drow in the undercity.

Some of these could be modded into the game but it would be nice if more depth was added into an update. Depending on what you picked to follow there could be encounters of you being hunted by other religions. Whenever I come across a temple or something else to do with the deities it feels empty, unfinished and almost just that they're there for the sake of being there.

The shadow thieves feud was a good start but there are so many more factions and religions battle ing it out according to the forgotten realms handbooks.
